I'm SO glad this is being covered! I have PCOS but no issues with blood sugar (had tests done at the doctor). BUT, anytime I eat carby foods even in what's considered "normal/healthy" amounts (fruits, grains, some processed carbs), im SEDATED afterwards! Its horrible. I finally listened to my doctor and started a low carb diet and, wow! I never have those insane dips in energy after eating anymore. My energy and mood are so much more balanced throughout the day.

You have glucose spikes no matter what, even if you don't eat carbs... Morning cortisol response for one, and if you do eat them (carbs) you'll get a bump everytime. It's about how fast you return to base line that counts.

So true that your body doesn’t know the difference in the type of different sweeteners you are eating. It just sees the glucose spike and glycemic spike occurs or ages you just the same way. Loved this discussion!!!🥰

Such a great video so informative! I begin my day with a green powder drink followed by oatmeal that contains peanut butter, she has seeds, flax seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts and blueberries. I’m wondering if this fits the science that you were speaking of? Thanks

The fruit before a meal actually came from Ayurveda which is 5000 years old so I think that guy from the Renaissance got it from there. Ayurveda still to this day teaches that fruit should be eaten alone, or first if not alone. I've taken 3 courses on this and they all still teach it, so that's what I do. I've noticed I have much better digestion because of it.

I am very confused now. I would like to know how mixing in the fat to slow down carb absorption would affect the body in the context of the Randle cycle which is a biochemical mechanism involving the competition between glucose and fatty acids for their oxidation and uptake in muscle and adipose tissue. Prof Bart Kays talked about mixing macro nutrients ( fat and carbs) as the main cause of modern diseases such as diabetes. Professor Ben Birkman also emphasized that protein always go with fat as in nature , but never with carbs.

I am not very Sure @ sequence of macros. The eating time is average @ 30 min max , the food is in stomach for @ 2 hrs. It's mixed with digestive chemicals and thoroughly mixed and broken down.
The small difference of 10-15 minutes in macro sequence may not matter at all.
However, if you it Salads and greens and then Protin and fat; you are actually full and any carb or sweet dish will be miniscule.
This will reduce calorie intake overall, resulting in all said benefits. However, presence of Fiber and Protin/ fat along with carbs will definitely reduce Insulin Spike.
That's why in Indian meal, rice is eaten with green vegetables,lentils, added with Ghee (clarified butter) and added with lemon , Garcinia Indica (kokum) or tamarind.

If one looked at how the gi tract works? The enterocytes have a mechanism to help the liver not be overwhelmed by fruit/fructose (prob one of the most natural things to ever eat) where it converts it to glucose so it doesn't enter the liver and skip the first step of glycolysis.

NOT ALL SUGARS ARE EQUAL in terms of inflammatory response. it's important to give correct information. Maybe in terms of blood sugar spikes. Not even speaking about chemicals like anti caking agents and preservatives

TOTALLY CONFUSED!!! The stomach doesn't keep "foods" separate. Everything gets churned together and then the stomach empties.

When I eat carbs after protein, it causes major indigestion and heartburn starting 2-3 hours after eating. The protein slows down the digestion of the carb that would normally be digested much quicker

She is contradicting herself. About dr who said eating fruit last will rot in stomach. How about eating vegetables first eating protein and fats after and eating carbs after .This is really a nonsense because vegetables stay in the stomach more than an hour so eating fats or protein and carbs after will mix with vegetables and will not make any difference. Coupling is really another wrong idea she forgetting that food stay in a stomach long enough to mix.
