The brain can use lactate directly as a fuel. 11:43 Longevity has no clinical trial. 13:42 Two interventions that offer longevity in animal models: fasting and Rapamycin. Both downregulate mTOR and both support autophagy. 15:35 Rapamycin is used for immune suppression in patients who have had organ transplants. 25:02 Dr. Attia does not use telomere’s as a marker of ageing since so many other things can influence it. 26:48 We need a blood test that measures some sort of signature autophagy. 28:46 Fasting is the single most potent tool in our toolbox of nutrition. 32:53 There are 50 different fasting regimens called intermittent fasting and we have no way to rank them or customize them to people’s goals. 34:20 Every gram of glycogen moves with 3 to 4 grams of water. The water goes into the plasma first and then out again as your body tries to conserve sodium. 41:58 Methionine levels drop quickly in fasting. Leucine levels remain about the same even 7 days in. 43:54 Research found that T4 and T3 decreased in the first 3 days of a fast, but leveled out after that. 45:35 In a fasted state, your body upregulates the enzyme that converts T4 into reverse T3. 50:33 At the end of a fast, Dr. Attia has very low testosterone, but experiences little to no symptoms or reduction in strength. 55:53 The literature on NAD is confusing. 01:00:24 Fasting is the single most important tool for treating metabolic disease and should be a part of any protocol. 01:04:09 People who do not do well on a ketogenic diet may have issues with the enzymes that regulate ketogenesis. 01:07:14 Metformin has a possible use as a longevity agent. 01:11:59 Berberine and Metformin go after the same pathway and probably should not be taken together. 01:21:05 Dr. Attia’s morning routine: He gets up early, listens to a lesson and meditates using apps 10% Happier or Waking Up. He's intelligent and full of knowledge and he's not afraid to say when something is not fully understood. No BS from him. Great interview, great discussions. Thank you Mike. xoxo 104 High Intensity Health Siim Land Siim Land 2 years ago Coming up with a device that measures autophagy in real time at home will be a game changer 279 High Intensity Health Optimize with Science Optimize with Science 2 years ago I love how structured and precise Peter approaches literally everything. 32 High Intensity Health JoAnna Secor JoAnna Secor 2 years ago (edited) I found this very interesting. I had a full thyroid panel (including RT3) as well as sex hormones (including Testosterone) after a 24hour fast and had the same results as Dr. Attia. (Not sure about the specific ratios though) This resulted in my Doc putting me on desiccated thyroid meds and told me I needed testosterone. Mind you, I did have many symptoms related to hypothyroidism. I’m interested to find out what my levels might be without fasting. 10 Fat Lives Matter Fat Lives Matter 1 year ago The benefits of fasting even 18-6, OMAD & Multi-Day Fasting are endless. Strongly recommend fasting for anyone. 7 Final Start Fitness Final Start Fitness 2 years ago (edited) I love the part where he is talking about the significance of 3 days of fasting on autophagy and glucose regulation as well as the thyroid discussion..So insightful!! 16 O Der O Der 2 years ago Mike, you are doing us such a great service by giving a platform to amazing professionals and people like Dr. Attia, Dr. Berry and the many other advocates of fasting and healthy lifestyles. Thank you so much for all of your work, consideration and professionalism. You are great at understanding, explaining and most of all listening to your guests. Have a wonderful weekend! 6 High Intensity Health shgfe3ay shgfe3ay 2 years ago Yesss TWO GREAT TITANS! This is goldust. If they taught this in schools instead of what the healthcare and food industry teach, then we’d be FAR better off! 79 High Intensity Health D Mummert D Mummert 2 years ago I can't say this enough, thank you. You should do more of these style interviews 11 High Intensity Health Radnally Radnally 2 years ago (edited) Great work. Thanks. I've seen other glucose testing during fasting that were similar to his experience. Getting and maintaining 50 to 60 after 48 hours. And keytones in the mid 5s as well. 3 High Intensity Health james Bond james Bond 2 years ago Very Educational and were lucky these researchers take time to discuss these concepts and protocol with us. I will forward this to all my medical friends. thank you guys 11 High Intensity Health Rog Rog 1 year ago Mike, I continue to watch your older videos and I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You are one of the best interviewer I’ve watched/listened too. Truly a beautiful art form that allows the speaker to get their information out in a way that we can follow. Thank You! 1 T D T D 2 years ago (edited) So glad Mike got Peter to talk. I've followed Peter for several years and agree with him on everything and learn so much every time he talks... 5 Rich Fisher Rich Fisher 1 year ago Great conversation with Peter, made me subscribe. I fast 3 Sundays a month and a 48 hour on the last weekend. Seems like maybe I need to incorporate a 72 hour fast. Knowing when autophagy kicks in would be an amazing tool to utilize. Ironmanix Ironmanix 1 year ago (edited) Thank you Dr. Attia for the information as always! This is one of the best disucssions I've watched on fasting. Annnnn Annnnn 2 years ago another great interview Mike, just wondering, I'm two days in on a 3 day fast and my heart rate has increased 10 beats and systolic blood measure has dropped 20 down to 100 over 67. Not been on your channel for a bit but so happy for you that you are over 204k subs, you deserve it 1 Paul Cross Paul Cross 2 years ago This Podcast was fantastic. And listening to your Podcast consistently and other Podcasts in this space for over a year now allowed me to hang (80% maybe) with the rapid pace of today's Subject matter and I am so proud of that. But certainly planning on listening several more times during my walks to get the most out of this episode. For me Podcasts like yours are uplifting and motivational. Love the content - Thank you.. 2 Just look at the Flowers Just look at the Flowers 1 year ago So many people out there thinking they know it all and talking B.S, so good to hear someone who knows so much but honestly says there is so much more that no one know's yet. Love that he's his ongoing experiment and we get the feedback on his results. 3 SwinginSweetHeart SwinginSweetHeart 1 year ago Wow, I really enjoyed this interview. I am not sure who your targeted audience is however keep in mind, I am a nurse with a bachlors degree and had to look up some terms to make sure I followed everything you guys said. Awesome though loved the knowledge upgrade. I do have a question. I am a night nurse. How do I regulate my sleep :-) 1 RTC1655 RTC1655 2 years ago I'm on a 22-2 IF since a couple of years. It's been a life changing experience for me. Is this the best possible dietary lifestyle? Probably not but so far it's more than good enough. I've lost weight, more than 12 kg, but the testosterone boost is what I'm after. Training hard at the end of a IF cycle is simply a mind blowing experience. 2 High Intensity Health clipsTL clipsTL 2 years ago Hi you mentioned you do 1 day fast per week and 5 days each quarter. During the non-fasting days, how many hours do you allocate for your eating window? Thanks for this channel! 1 Claudia Wang Claudia Wang 2 years ago Gosh this podcast is GOLD. Thank you so much! I have a benign tumour in my liver and a few other health hurdles and am hoping a Ketogenic diet and IF will help reverse and heal it and then some. God bless you and your channel and all the beautiful guests you have. Can’t get enough of the knowledge bombs being dropped! 😂🙏😩🏋️‍♀️💪 3 brian warner brian warner 1 year ago Thanks for the great information!! I have a question; I have done 5 long fasts(5-7days each)this year, actually "fast mimicking diets following Valter Longo's macronutrient formula. I usually eat "keto",consuming 30-50carbs/day.While I recognize low protein is key, following Longo's formula on carbs doubles my carb consumption and , in turn, reduces my level of ketosis. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work! Myles Drake Myles Drake 2 years ago Mike I have a question for you. If someone fasted for a prolonged period of time (let's say 3 days) before doing a PRP session, would the higher concentration of endogenous stem cells from the fast aid in the PRP treatment? Could this be like a very low cost stem cell therapy alternative? Thank you so much! Myles 4 Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb Tommy Huynh t_wrex_mtb 2 years ago This is a great video, you guys really break it down scientifically, I just know that it works. I have been doing Intermittent fasting for 22 months. The first month I was eating twice a day in a small window but I have been eating only One Meal A Day (OMAD) for the past 21 months. I feel amazing, there are times on special occasions that I eat a 2nd meal but it only happens 2-3 times a month. I lost all of my weight (30 pounds) in the first 90 days and I have kept it off ever since. I started OMAD to loss fat but now that I hit my goal weight I continue to do OMAD for autophagy. It was interesting to hear what changes you guys have felt during fasting. I also get cold easily now then ever before. Some other changes are; I dont require as much sleep (6 vs 8hrs) my hair and nails grow much faster. My skin is slightly more dry (which I didnt really noticed until you said it) way more energy, way more focused and obviously Im in the best shape of my life. 17 High Intensity Health Dr. M. Vincent Curley Dr. M. Vincent Curley 2 years ago Many of my older patients have been unsuccessful in fasting, even in the short term. My guess is because their liver hasn't used gluconeogenesis in so long that its like using a back-up rusty generator that hasn't been serviced since before the cold war. 20 Illegal Notes Illegal Notes 2 years ago This is by far the best advise I've ever heard, thank you man 1 A C A C 2 years ago Thank you for this video. I’ve just started intermittent fasting and I’m trying to find more information on fasting with hypothyroid conditions. Here you talk briefly about T3 and T4 but I’m still not sure if fasting is good for me. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s when I was 7 and have been taking meds for 31 years. If there are any references to this that anyone has come across, I would love to know about them. It seems that around 19 hours of fasting I start to get light headed and very weak and am forced to eat something, I’m not sure if this is a result of my thyroid. Thanks. 2 High Intensity Health Da Lin Da Lin 2 years ago This was fantastic! Great interview. Thank you for the information! 1 High Intensity Health J Man J Man 1 year ago So far I've intermittent fasted for 3 weeks and fasted for 3 days of 2 of those weeks. 164lbs to 152lbs. Pretty crazy you guys, workout on the first day hard and light exercise like walking when fast. When intermittent fasting work out as much as you can, say goodbye to fat within weeks. Greetings from Poland! Your materials, as usual, are great. Concise, wise, helpful. Could you please try to find someone who's in curing neuropathy with fast/autophagy? I've been trying to spot such person or to find some materials (research, data), but there is so little on that topic. Neuropathy is a serious problem of about 15% people suffering from diabetes. I've diverted diabetes T2 after 12 years and all of he symptoms are gone but peripherial neuropathy is still a major issue for me. And for so many others as well. Anyway, thanks for your effort so far! 2 High Intensity Health F Cast13 F Cast13 1 year ago A Tour de Force by Peter! In a casual conversation in an indiscrete kitchen? It made me cry. I love these topics but I am always will be a child among giants. Peter Attia is a genius in his ability to explain these complex topics in a personal way. Never disappointed! misterbobdobalina misterbobdobalina 2 years ago I think these conversations are interesting. I’m reminded that fasting has probably been expounded on by the wisest and most prolific people from time but still we can’t exhaust the topic. With respect to Peter Attia I believe the most effective dissertation has been more simply put by less lettered folk. 1 High Intensity Health Nathanael Kitchen Nathanael Kitchen 2 years ago Another amazing one Mike!!
