ScienceClic English Pinned by ScienceClic English ScienceClic English 1 year ago (edited) Many thanks to my friend Thomas Harvey who helped me write this video. Thomas was my roommate during my Master's at Cambridge, he is now doing a PhD at Oxford University, and quantum field theory is his daily routine : https://www2.physics.ox.ac.uk/contacts/people/harveyt 762 Michael Uvarov Michael Uvarov 1 year ago Wow, someone actually described what spin is 3.5K Guy Edwards Guy Edwards 11 months ago You just explained quantum spin in a perfectly sound, fairly simple mathematical context without resorting to the tired line "particles don't really spin, but you can think of it that way". I'm absolutely blown away man! Also, I'm a huge fan of how you symbolized conservation laws by their corresponding transformation symmetry in the appropriate spaces. Not super necessary to understand the content, but a nice little something extra for those in the know! 56 Jack Meseyton Jack Meseyton 1 year ago For a non-physicist layman, who just happens to enjoy reading and watching YouTube videos about it, your videos are fantastic. Great work. Keep them coming! 90 Ulysses Ulysses 1 year ago This visualization is so advanced, its like partaking in future starfleet academy education 792 vaun Jeis vaun Jeis 5 months ago 12:23 blew my mind because while it is useful to think of a string as vibrating at a particular frequency, the truth is indeed that any given section of the string is vibrating differently from the rest, and it is the synthesis of all those parts of the string at once which produces the final frequencies. Once of the best ways of describing wave function I have ever heard. 24 Neerkoli Neerkoli 1 year ago This is one of those "woah!" moments for me. You have that gift of explaining things clearly and precisely. People like you are making ordinary mortals like me understand quantum physics and relativity, at least a little bit. Thank you! 20 Scott T Scott T 1 year ago Speaking as a physicist, this is SUCH an exceptional explanation of QFT. 1.3K scepticalchymist scepticalchymist 1 year ago Beautifully animated and impressively clear, concise, and comprehensible. A true piece of magic. 9 Rationalific Rationalific 1 year ago (edited) 1:46 - "In this video, we build together Quantum Field Theory". "Hell, yeah!" In the end, I think you put in a lot more work than I did on this venture... In fact, WOW! I don't know what is more astounding...the quantum world or that such a deep yet understandable and visually compelling video could be produced. Amazing job to those involved! 5 Fernando Maglio Fernando Maglio 1 year ago (edited) As a passionated without any academic study, I can't thank you enough for this visualisation. It makes it super simple and makes a lot of sense. I had some issue even with simple concepts jumping from QM to QFT, like characteristics of particles, even as simple as particles charge. It has been always a step of faith of particles behaviours which didn't make much sense. Now I believe I can say that charge and interactions are phase QFT waves interactions and their disturbances. I'm still totally ignorant, but at the least I got comfortable to have my own partial understanding. 11 Dedi Khana Dedi Khana 1 year ago The best 15 minutes of my life. Thanks for the sharing. I'm studying QFT by myself now and this visualization helps me a lot. 4 Fever Dream asmr Fever Dream asmr 1 year ago (edited) As I said earlier, this channel is better than a whole physics department 62 Nicholas Bohlsen Nicholas Bohlsen 1 year ago The animations in this video are extremely impressive. They present some of the basics of QFT, much better than many other casual sources. (and visualisations like this are also almost unavailable in an academic context as well) 875 Oz yaj Oz yaj 1 year ago I’ve been watching a video or two of yours (or 3 or 4) each night for about a week, and on every occasion, I am amazed at how well you explain and animate/visualize these complicated topics. Way to go! 4 Captain Price Captain Price 10 months ago It is masterpiece, I remember watching this a few months back and banging my head but since they I have gathered some more mathematical and physics knowledge and now I totally got the video and I fell in love..... 7 Stephanie Holtz Stephanie Holtz 1 year ago This is such a great visual aide to understand something which is (extremely difficult) to visualize/comprehend. I am not a physics major but am still deeply interested in the subject. Please keep making more videos..haha 44 Jose H López Jose H López 3 months ago I think the same as I read in a previous comment... Arguably one of the best science channels out there! This video seems to go by very slowly, but in a really nice way. Dont know exactly how to describe it, but thank you!! 396 Sci Factorial Sci Factorial 1 year ago (edited) Hands down one of the best introductions available. Love the visualizations, basically you are the 3b1b of physics! Absolutely deserves more views! Please keep up the great work with more videos like this. Excellent stuff! I might have missed it but is there a video about how you do the visualizations? 345 Gideon Max Merling Gideon Max Merling 11 months ago Question, aren't photons the result of an interaction between fields (electric and magnetic), and not a field of their own? Also, are there any more particles which aren't just excitations but also interactions between fields? 1 RavensEagle RavensEagle 1 year ago Amazing visualisation. Slippery Fish Slippery Fish 1 year ago This is a really great video, I hope in the future you decide to do a series on QFT/Gauge theory like your general relativity series I think gauge theory in terms fiber bundle connections and RG flow would be much easier to understand in visual form than from textbooks 1 Artsenor Artsenor 1 year ago You know, I'm a physics student, currently learning all of this stuff, and I've been searching on YouTube for months to find some way to help me visualize QFT beyond all the equations on my sheet. Well, that's the exact video I couldn't find, thank you so much for this amazing work ! 282 Shackled Shackled 3 months ago From my research into the gravitational constant I have come to the conclusion that we need to re-frame how we think of time, especially within strong gravitational fields. If time has mass, like many physicists are thinking at the moment I would say we need to see how it applies to the Higgs Boson. I would even go as far as to say that the HB may be the fundamental particle of time and gravity. The Higgs Boson also seem to just be polar opposite of the photon and more thinking needs to be done around that too. Henrik L ... Henrik L ... 2 months ago This was really amazing. Can you show how the underlying quantum field(s) result in macroscopic behavior that is consistent with Newtonian mechanics? To put it another way, say that we started out with a knowledge of quantum fields, but no knowledge of Newtonian mechanics. Would we imagine that some simple equations could describe the behavior of things that arose from the quantum fields? 2 Punky Pinko Punky Pinko 1 year ago Quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. And it's mind-blowing that someone actually once came up with this concept by merely observing the universe 1 Entrepenumbra Entrepenumbra 1 year ago As someone who has read about physics for almost 20 years, trying to understand what spin is, and put it all together, WOW this video is the best explanation of it all I have ever seen. The way you grouped things, and the visuals you have chosen were perfect for me, personally. I think it would be helpful for most other people as well. Great video! I get, that it's simpler to say that they are, but then resort to drawing them as point-like objects. But how much different would your intuition be, if you could see a particle as wave in a field in spacetime (4D) interacting with another wave in another field in spacetime? 1 Marten Samulowitz Marten Samulowitz 1 year ago im really impressed by the quality of this video! great explanations! prosimulate prosimulate 1 year ago I've seen a tonne of videos this is the best video and will be for a very long time. I understand that a field can have a set of values to represent e.g. an electron but how do we know the values are “connected” so to speak? Are they just like droplets of energy that just so happen to move together or is there a deeper explanation as to what defined them as one particle? Wayne Riesterer Wayne Riesterer 11 months ago Great presentation! If time ellapsed since the big bang tended towards zero and density tended towards infinity, such that volume tended towards zero, then both space and time collapse; at least from a retrospective conceptual view. These things are then insignificant from the perspective of their establishing context. Relativity then is an nth-order contrivance where n is at least > 2. The big bang is an interesting story, but making even a whisper back then from a physical perspective was a long way off. Any sound propagation that could be considered would have a perception boundary coincident to any sound that could be heard. It's easier to discover the fundamental by realising it was a singularity in retrospect and stepping out of it left the potential of it for the multiplicity to discover as form and observing perceptions within the multiplicity provided a means for the singularity to become self aware. Symmetry and complementary states that ensure symmetry is spot on as far as a conceptual view goes. fuu fuu 1 year ago Thanks for attempting to illustrate such a complex topic, I really feel closer to when I started. Gérard Jacquemier 1 year ago Explications parfaitement claires et superbe infographie 1 Mister Backster 4 months ago that was awesome! i really like the way you described time and moved the electrons through the "spime" it would be the same for people moving through time. if the past present and future are all real and happening at once, this is how a person would look, like a long worm like thing. as earth rotates and goes around the sun, with the sun moves around the galactic center, as the galaxy moves away from every other galaxy with the expansion of space. it would be a big hazy smudge. our consciousness is just an infinitesimal slice, imagine if a godlike creature took a snapshot, we would resolve into our human form, but they wouldnt know where we were going, or how fast we were moving. dean pluber 9 months ago Really appreciate all your hard work!
