More than 60 years of research into metformin and its use by hundreds of millions of people across the globe has given us very solid footing: This drug is quite safe. Research has found that Metformin targets complex one of the mitochondria, limiting metabolic reactions and slowing processes that convert macronutrients into energy. As a result, there is less ATP production, activating AMPK, one of the longevity pathways. Exercise also activate AMPK and induce hormetic response as well. Dr Sinclair dedicated an entire chapter of his book Lifespan to the potential Metformin anti-aging benefits, which was aptly titled “This cheap pill might help you live a longer, healthiest life.” With more and more positive data accumulating, will metformin be used more widely to prevent age-related diseases? Will it be the first drug to be prescribed specifically for the condition of aging? Dr Sinclair has suggested that aging is a disease—and that we may soon have the tools to put it into remission—and he has called for greater international attention to the social, economic and political and benefits of a world in which billions of people can live much longer and much healthier lives. Dr Sinclair is the co-founder of several biotechnology companies (Life Biosciences, Sirtris, Genocea, Cohbar, MetroBiotech, ArcBio, Liberty Biosecurity) and is on the boards of several others. He is also co-founder and co-chief editor of the journal Aging. He is an inventor on 35 patents and has received more than 35 awards and honors. In 2014, he was on Time Magazine’s list of the “100 Most Influential People in the World,” and listed as Time's Top 50 in healthcare in 2018. #DavidSinclair #Metformin #NMN #Hormesis #Longevity #Fasting #Exercise #ReverseAging #NADIV #Longevity #Epigenetic #RestoreYouth #Reprogramming #DavidSinclair #DrSinclairLab #Lifespan #Healthspan #Younger #Resveratrol #NMN #antiaging#DrSinclair #DavidSinclair #NAD #longevity #Bioscience 89 Comments rongmaw lin Add a comment... The decrease in mitochondrial function caused my metformin reduces VO2 max, which is also a crucial metric for longevity. Going off metformin didn’t change my A1C either. So why take it, and damage mitochondrial function? 4 Karl Karl 5 months ago (edited) Fascinating. For people who already have excellent insulin sensitivity through diet and exercise (for example, HOMA-IR <0.5), would there be any additional benefits to taking metformin? Or is the WAY Metformin is beneficial specifically by improving insulin sensitivity? 1 noonecaresaboutgoogle+ noonecaresaboutgoogle+ 2 months ago Sinclaire mentions skipping metformin when you want to build muscle and when you train interchangeably, but the actual building of muscle happens in the days after the resistance training. Is it best to skip metformin the day you work out, the days afterwards or both? 2 Ravi G Ravi G 6 months ago very well explained if your sugar is going up every year one can have metformin .if your sugar levels are low ,eating right and doing exercise, no need for medication . 4 Galaxy Being Galaxy Being 5 months ago More power and strength without bulk?! That's the Holy Grail of sports -- for some disciplines, that is. The power/endurance to weight/bulk ratio is hyper-critical in some sports. They'd love to get more with less actual muscle bulk. 5 J Ridge J Ridge 5 months ago If you can’t get a prescription for Metformin, can you substitute Berberine and get the same longevity benefits? 11 Margics Margics 5 months ago What we certified PT’s prescribe our diabetic clients is not to take metformin before strength training because of the risk of hypoglycemia. I have seen happening and had to assist, in the gym, several times as those clients had forgotten the advice, took it, had to be sent to the hospital right away. Stayed hospitalized for several days. So I agree it’s not recommended for diabetics before strength training. 3 phsal phsal 3 months ago great info. thank you 1 murmurha murmurha 5 months ago what are the correlations or contradictions of Metformin and co Q-10 ?, (that we must know if we use as supplement) Kamal Azam Kamal Azam 3 months ago My jaw dropped when he said he's 50 3 Working Professional Working Professional 4 months ago Diabetics don't eat as many sweets, smoke as much or drink as much. So you must combine metformin with a low alcohol, non smoking and very low surger diet to get the 20% reduced risk of disease. 1 Sandra Sandra 5 months ago Sinclair says don’t take on the day you are working and building muscle thereby suggesting you take it on days you are not. I would think you wouldn’t want to take metformin for at least one day, maybe two after lifting weights. It’s not on the day you lift that you are building muscle. In fact you are breaking down muscle on the day you lift. If metformin inhibits Mtor and reduces inflammation than you will not grow as much muscle if you take it directly after the day you workout. Also though metformin has a relatively short half life, if you take it regularly and would need to in order to affect blood sugar, it will have a build up in your body in which just skipping it on your workout days, say 3x week at least may not help either goal of lowering blood sugar or building muscle. Any thoughts on this anyone? 3 Michael Domansky Michael Domansky 6 hours ago And if you take Metformin with therapeutic quantities of NAC, NMN, Benfotiamine, and Ivermectin …. Boom! Major improvements ….. Nieczerwony Nieczerwony 5 months ago Is it possible to be insulin resistance with low sugar? My cousin just been said he is IR but he has 78 glucose when fasted. If on the other hand, you only exercise (for instance) every...fourth...day, you may want Metformin on the 3rd day. Any concepts about this???
