The first movie was almost competent enough just to be be boring, but this film is pure comedy gold. 29 Michael Telson Michael Telson 5 months ago (edited) Most people have never read the Alan Quartermain books. They are great but the movies depicts him do wrongly. He had only one love interest and that was Marie his first wife who was killed treacherously. Those foundation books were never used for a movie. Alan himself was a scrawny, 5’ 4” English man and was not the love interest in subsequent books, that was for those who funded the expedition. His only child, a son with his second wife who also died young, died of yellow fever after getting his medical degree and founding a medical clinic. The named gun, after his first wife, was a low caliber fowling piece. He was also an only child. Hollywood has done so much to distort the image that H. I was the last to get to the lobby , stepped into the elevator and the only one there was Richard Chamberlain ,and then I said your R.C ,may I shake your hand.
