Living forever may be far fetched and beyond your control now, but science is coming closer to making it easier and more possible to live a longer healthier life. In this episode, find out how to reverse aging, prevent cancer, and delay the aging process with Peter Attia, Mike Mutzel, Jimmy Moore and David Sinclair. Becoming a “kick ass 100 year old” through fitness, body movement, understanding diet and fasting cycles is closer, more practical, achievable and affordable than you may think. SHOW NOTES: Cellular Aging | What the epigenome’s role is in cellular function that contributes to aging [1:40] DNA Packaging | Making enzymes needed for DNA packaging and repair more active [5:39] Biological Age | The DNA clock that tells your age and approximate age of death [9:15] Regulating Aging | Pathways that regulate aging and how Metformin helps create energy [11:42] Diet & Fasting | Why having variety is best and knowing when too much is too much [14:57] Fasting | Effective fasting cycles and frequency to get the most benefit [20:24] Anti-Cancer | Effects of fasting on potential cancer properties and how insulin ties in [30:10] Fit at 100 | Peter Attia redefines what fitness should look like to be functional in old age [34:36] Cold Exposure | Why cryotherapy is beneficial and how it builds brown fat [44:03] Longevity Diet | Mike Mutzel explains why eating the same time everyday is critical [46:55] Biomarkers | These are some of the biomarkers to pay attention to and why they matter [50:55] Metformin | Mike explains how this interacts with the microbiome and affects autophagy [55:28] Methylation Clock | David explains reverse aging is becoming a reality being explored [57:50] “...aging is caused because cells lose their packaging. And then eventually cells lose their identity, disease ensues. Cells check out, they become zombie-like, and then our organs fail and we die.” David Sinclair [4:50] “I think when it’s too much is when it affects your sleep, when it affects your recovery, and your muscle performance. When you start seeing negative side effects. When is it ideal? When you feel good.” Mike Mutzel [18:33] “ In other words, the worse the diet, the better the benefit of caloric restriction, which points us to this idea that dietary restriction should still always be some component of a healthy nutrition strategy.” Peter Attia [26:17] “I would rather be poor, but know how to [...] live longer, than have all the money in the world and lose my health.” Peter Attia [27:10] “So people start saying, I have MS, I have this, and I think we need to realize that certainly our body can have perturbations, but it doesn't mean you're always going to manifest symptoms of that if you can. The body and the mind and the diet and lifestyle are so powerful.” Mike Mutzel [34:09] “I don't really care so much as what you eat, and how much I want you eating at the same time every day, whatever that is.” Mike Mutzel [47:21] David Sinclair, Ph.D. is a Harvard professor best known for his work on delaying and reverse aging. He is the author of the NYT bestseller, Lifespan: Why We Age and Why We Don't Have To Peter Attia earned his M.D. from Stanford University and specializes in the applied science of longevity. He focuses on many areas including emotional and mental health, pharmacology to increase lifespan (how long you live), and improving healthspan (the quality of your life). Mike Mutzel is at the forefront of functional medicine. His top-rated podcasts have helped thousands of people with fitness, nutrition, and general health advice. He focuses on low-carb (ketogenic) diets, gut bacteria health, sleep, and building muscle. Jimmy Moore is the bestselling author of Keto Clarity and host of the long-running Livin’ La Vida Low Carb Podcast. He specializes in the keto lifestyle (low-carb, high-fat, ketogenic). S. Lewis 161 WOW50plus WOW50plus 1 year ago (edited) I am 60 years old. I am a paralegal and a fitness instructor that teaches Spin and High intensity workouts., and have been for the last 20 plus years. Most people call me an anomaly but in reality this should be the norm if as children we never stop "playing"; jumping, running, skipping and as grown ups call it a workout. We can slow down aging, no doubt, but it requires some sweat and fitness and nutrition changes. 73 Parisa Paris Parisa Paris 11 months ago My mom is 90 years old , she is saying that has been fasting for one month every year since she 15 year old ( of course religion fasting ) And she eats only once a day 😀 Well Her memory and her energy amazing me 😊 11 hono50 hono50 1 year ago Thank you Tom and everyone at IT, your work is invaluable and a great service to humanity ❤ Lila Mnbdh Lila Mnbdh 1 year ago Goodmorning Tom, God bless you and your Team. This is literally a compilation of my favorite health hack episodes. Autophagy rocks! 23 Mary Mary Mary Mary 1 year ago (edited) Thank you always for sharing such valuable contents understandable even for non-professionals. I personally like Doctor David Sinclair the best and also the Doctor who takes Burbrin(sorry I couldn’t catch his name). I am definitely interested in resetting the clock!! Also, about carbs, just by changing your habits from eating bread to rice will help lose fats. Especially if you can mix barley or brown rice into white rice. Although I do eat chocolate, ice cream and other sweets occasionally, it helped me get rid of my fats. I’m short (4feet11”) and weigh about 88pounds(39kg) Am 55 yrs old. Unfortunately, I have high cholesterol of 149LDL and 172nonHDL, I’m very worried about my gallbladder wall thickening, the doctor says it is difficult to find tumors because of it. I have to take CT scan every 6 months which in one of your interviews said it affects genes for longevity. I hope resetting will be available and prevalent before my death.... 1 Brian Booth Brian Booth 1 year ago Great video Tom. I wish they would start looking faster. 17 Katarina Hinsey Katarina Hinsey 11 months ago I remember methylation and demethylation from organic chemistry, but had no clue when I was learning this about the implications. Mutzel informed people to experiment with 'diets.' Using science is what makes a nutritionist, not exhibitionism. Attia is solid in his common sense approach. Thanks for your service Mr. Bilyeu. 1 Crystal Crystal 1 year ago I’ll be listening to this as I take my dogs on a 3 mile walk, before I lift weights. I think those are some good steps to living a long healthy life :) 10 mark veen mark veen 1 year ago "Give us another 5 million years and we evolve to 200 year life spans" Cant believe David said that. By that time we're probably looking like super heroes with super powers and technology fixed aging entirely. 2 Ebby C Ebby C 1 year ago (edited) The key, or over-arching message to me, seems to be, work hard enough so the body learns to defend itself, but not so hard that it learns to defend itself from you. on an opposing note, it is ironic that we think about living longer, while doing the things that make our lives shorter, depleting ourselves, our bodies, depleting our natural resources, our air, our water,... we don't age in isolation, we age with everything that's around us. 6 ines sanderson ines sanderson 1 year ago Holy molly! My dearest Dr. Attia, you talk about “amazing 60 year old” as if it is totally out of the ordinary ! I know most are not in the best of shapes, but there are some that manage pretty well. I am going to be 69 in a about a month and I’m able to do anything I want, both at the gym and in my daily life. 13 Just A Dude in the World, Man. Problem with this Longevity compilation is that it's so conflicting - this one says, that one says that! Who to believe? It sounds, after watching this, is that no one really knows how to fast, when to fast, how long to fast.
