Been fasting on and off for 7 yrs.
There’s definitely a correlation with fasting and tapping into your higher self. When I’m fasting my concentration is on point. It’s not for everyone but it works for me.

I went from 207 to 172 within three months of (mostly) 20-4 fasting . Along with low carb whole food dieting … it has significantly changed how I feel and my entire mind state . I feel sooo much better

Intermitted 36 hour fasts every 2 to 3 weeks makes sense to me. It has helped me a ton. I stopped smoking weed and stopped drinking after my last fast. Still going strong after 2 weeks.

Love the anti-aging segments the most Joe. Excellent interview as always. David's point regarding youth and disease fighting ability, can also be a result of being alive less, and so accumulation of less damage. This is another way of looking at it, which needs to be considered as part of the damage repair theory, which Aubrey De Grey is spearheading. We have seen time and time again with isolated molecules, that bringing "levels back up to youthful measures" do not extend life in humans. Testosterone and Estrogen for example, DHEA as another example. Although certain molecules and biomarkers decrease with age, their decrease may be a consequence of aging and not a causation of aging. As NAD+ decreases as we age, fixing the damage which causes NAD to decline, is another way of looking at the same item, rather than studying the "restocking" of the depleted molecule to youthful levels. For example, perhaps there is some mitochondrial dysfunction due to damage, which causes NAD depletion. If this is the case, then replacing NAD may be a band aid at best. I'm not discounting David's work, however I'm intending opening the floor to further discussion. What causes mitochondrial dysfunction, and if we repair the mitochondria, will NAD+ rise back to normal or some level or normalcy? It is my feeling that the mitochondria is still largely unknown and highly complex. "Energy producing organelle" is a giant over simplification and I think our understanding of how to repair the mitochondria from various forms of damage, will reveal new therapeutics to help us reach "longevity escape velocity." Looking forward to reading some further thoughts. Rob

I have been practicing one meal a day for two years after doing fasting. Fasting helps reduce inflammation, boost cognitive performance, and most especially supports weight loss. I am an avid follower of Dr. Sinclair, and very convinced that NMN supplement (Vitruvin Nutrition 500mg/day) helped me a lot in my weight loss and healthy lifestyle journey. I can say that I've made the right choice in my life, to be fit and healthy as this is the only important asset we can have in the future as we age.

But doesn't fasting for so long put your body in the state of survival wherein it lowers your testosterone? Because when you're in a calorie deficit or fasting for a long time you're in survival mode. So your body doesn't put too much attention to reproduction but to survival. Am I right or wrong people? Can somebody explain it to me

Fasting 20 + hours daily.

I started learning about prolonged fasting from Elliott Hulse last year, and at the start of the year I started going more plant based. I've never ate veggies or plants before, at least not to this degree. I've been on 1 meal a day since January, I typically drink half my body's weight in water every day, and I eat a plant based dinner. On occasion I'll treat myself to a slice of pizza or a burger. I went from 183 to 163. I work a full time job, plus run 2 businesses 7 days a week, and I sleep from 10pm-5am every day. Idk how I have the energy... But I do!!! Love your work, Tony Robbins introduced me to David Sinclair, I'm excited to start adding NMN to my daily routine 🙏❤️🔥

I checked myself in yesterday in the emergency room as I was having chest pains, heart palpations and water in my legs at 56 years of age. I weighed in at 280 pounds at 5' 11" and spent the night there under observation and had a series of tests done as I and the doctors suspected a heart attack. However, after the tread mill and nuclear radiation dye imaging and ultra sound, the Doctors told me that my arteries were clear, my lungs were clear, and that my heart was healthy and strong and told me I could now do that good old Marine Corps Styled PT that was good for me then and now will be good for you too. The Doctors told me I have another 50 + years on this heart. I once took my body fat ratio down to 6% through diet alone. Now, I can use my electric bike along beautiful Monterey Bay areas to do scouting for Surf Perch fishing sites and with my old known recipes, I can bring my obesity down to about 18% body fat ratio. Indeed, I will be enjoying my retirement for decades to come.

I used to Intermittent Fast. It was great. I started to feel the way this guy talks about fasting. But it slowed my metabolism. Which in turn made it a chore to expel solid waste. I switched to alternate day IF and now I have no problems in that department. But now I'm slowly putting on weight because I'm stuck in the quarantine rut from last year. Trying to get my shit together, and this is the steepest come up I've ever faced. Wish I had a personal trainer shaman like Joe to mentor me and push my limits.

I get over niggles, coughs etc. super fast now, usually within 24 hours. I'm not tired as much as I used to be. I feel good, my body feels good.

Have been doing 18/6 fasting for 1 week so far eating between 3pm and 9pm. Feeling great! So so helpful for eating at a caloric deficit as its difficult to fit in a lot of calories in such a short time frame. Tea/coffee to get me through the day, piece of cake!

I started fasting begin this year and dropped about 20 kilos and feel great. The main reason i tried this because i SUFFER from GOUT, which gives horrible pains. No matter what diet i tried or what medications i took, i got attack after attack which left me desperate for a solution (someone who does not have that can hardly imagine the pain it causes. Since i have been fasting i have had NO ATTACKS, and recently stopped my medication to counter gout. The cause of my gout is genetic and even eating hardly anything that contains purine (the thing that causes it) did not help. I am not a specialist but i can only guess that the fasting forces my body to get rid (or consume) the urine acid more effectively. In the beginning you feel hungry a lot, but you quickly get used to it. In my opinion it is more of a mental trick to not eat then a physical discomfort. I do not eat between 20:00 and13:00 but of course i eat a bit later when i come home late, or a bit earlier when i feel week and really need to eat (you do not have to suffer). For me it works great and i would recommend it to anyone, especially for people with gout

Sinclair is solid. He also tweeted his doubts about rushing a vaccine last year, and afterwards deleted it. I wonder who put the pressure on him, or did a wary colleague tell him that the tweet would do him no favours? I have all of the usual vaccines, but as a relative works for one of the labs, I have not taken any of the C-19 vaccines. Fasting is also a very effective was of battling viruses, so he is trying to advise people how to keep healthy without getting himself into trouble.

I started a new job at a civil litigation law firm working 11 hours a day at my office, and even one small bite of food will have me mentally fatigued and leave me underperforming at work. So I had to come up with a solution and I simply stopped eating all day. I eat one meal when I get home at 7 pm. My mental clarity and thought processes have improved 10 fold and I feel great.

I agree, I need some kind of protein after a workout. I feel really run down if I don't. And I do do fasting. Eats at 11, usually handful of peanuts and some kind of dried fruit. Then workout at 3 and eat at 430-5ish. I've had trouble keeping a consistent weight, but fasting has leveled me off. No expert but it works for me and I've done it for about 3 years and feel great!

Fasting is like exercising, to get stronger and healthier we need to exercise our bodies to improve them. Fasting exercises our body and causes it to become more efficient in processing and helps clean up the junk in our system like old cells, viruses and other harmful substances. It also gives the pancreas, liver and other organs a chance to rest between meals. This is much like allowing your body to rest between workouts in an exercise program. Your body needs time to recuperate...
Conversely, just don't exercise or fast and continue to eat sugar and processed foods. Your loved ones will appreciate going to your hospital bedside years before they actually should....

Nice! Just turned 25, I need to keep this in mind.
For the first couple hours after waking up, I’m usually good but if I don’t eat by certain times, then it’s hard to stay with it mentally
It depends on what you eat. When I eat stuff with a bunch of nitrates and preservatives, I crash and need a nap, so I try to avoid that. If you eat healthier things, that definitely helps mental acuity
I don’t think I could ever fast; I just eat healthy or try to limit the junk food, so I can think and function optimally. Today was so busy I barely ate enough 😢

Damn this was right on time too. I started doing intermittent fasting, for those that don't know it's a 16:8 ratio. Out of 24 hours in the day you have an 8 hour window that you eat and the other 16 you don't eat. I've been doing it for about 2 weeks now and I can tell I've lost some weight and I do feel a little better too. Its not that hard really for anyone thinking about it. The way I do it is I only eat when I'm at work mainly. Out of the 8 hours I'm at work I use a 6 hour window while I'm there and give myself 2 more hours when I get home to complete the 8.

David,
I just started reading your book, Lifespan, yesterday at the request of a friend. Even though I’ve studied science since 1960, I’ve stopped reading any books by medical people, doctors or researchers, because their scientific abilities, in general, are so poor.
I have to admit that for the first 147 pages, I was impressed even though you said a few things that were totally wrong. I’m assuming you are a good researcher, but then page 148 happened.
On that page you stated that you believed in the beneficial effects of vaccination! This is shocking to me because you seem to have no clue that vaccination, next to current AMA cancer therapies, are the worst thing that the medical system has ever done to humanity. Vaccination has damaged BILLIONS of people and has dramatically shortened the lives of MILLIONS of people, never really even helping one person.
Now, you may ask who the hell am I, not being a medical researcher, so I’ll tell you. I fell in love with science in November of 1960, when I was in the second grade. Since then, I’ve read over 3,500 science books, performed hundreds of scientific experiments, solved tens of thousands of scientific, mathematical and engineering problems.
What woke me up about vaccination was the fact that my children were both damaged by vaccines in the 1990s. Because of that I did some research on the topic and was shocked when I read a 1898 scientific paper by a British scientist, Alfred Russel Wallace, that was called “Vaccination a Delusion: It’s Penal Enforcement a Crime.” You can easily find the original paper on the Internet, which you should do immediately. If you do, then you will find that Jenner’s vaccine was one of the three major CAUSES of smallpox, and NEVER reduced it.
I hope you can learn about this.
Respectfully,
Victor Connor

My week so far....20hr fast.....20hr fast.....42hr fast....day off.....20 hr fast. I felt the best hour 40 of my 42 hr fast. I also ran a 5k and shoulder workout at hour 36. Apple cider vinegar in carbonated water. Black coffee. Water. Break fast with natural yoghurt protein then meat eggs and non histamine raising veg like zucchini (courgette) and broccoli. Then a treat of my choice.

Fasting is a solid method to Practice Discipline and Gratitude 🙏🏼 I’m still working on it. I have smoothies for breakfast ( frozen fruits, superfoods cacao powder, green powder from sixpackabs or lemon wheat grass from dr berg, Greek yogurt, an egg or 2, and honey ) great ! Health is Definitely Wealth !

I basically transitioned from food to beer for most of my calories & eat once before I start drinking- (gotta lay the foundation before you build the house). I’ve actually felt more fit & even trimmer on the beer diet. Plus it keeps you from getting hungry.

I workout about 1-2 hrs 6 days a week fasted (then eat afterwards). It doesnt affect my lifts. I actually feel very strong and my mental acuity is extreme. So line the workout up at the end of the fast. Not 6 hours prior

40 years ago I used to work with a guy who fasted on Saturdays as a form of personal discipline...nothing more. His wife was a Hindu vegan, but made him a ham sandwich for his lunch every day. I thought the idea was really weird, but I get it now. It was the ham.

I wish I knew about stuff like fasting and Keto back when I was in school. I honestly think I was one of those who could have probably skipped a few meals. I think it was a round 5th grade I almost reached 300 lb.

There's this guy called Loren Lockman who has a fasting cernter and does some serious 30 day or more fasting.
There was one case of a client who fasted with him for more than 4 months, only drinking water. It's quite remarkable what our bodies can do.
I did 4 days water fasting and the only reason I didn't go further was because I was almost throwing up by just drinking water.

I'm like one of the only Asians on my floor at work and considered "thin" by my coworkers (I'm just average weight though), because like 90% of them are obese so they just make excuses that it's because of my genetics. but I've suffered from PCOS since I as 14 and my weight has fluctuated so much that I was once considered obese too. Fasting, good diet, and exercise helped me finally stabilize to a healthy weight while I see all my other coworkers drinking coke bottles, snacking on chips/chocolate, and eating fast-food practically all hours of the day. what you put in is what you put out - I'm just sayin

That's my theory on natives. I'm native, raised on and around a few different reservations. Large numbers of natives are overweight, diabetics, or just plain unhealthy. Govt commodities are pure junk, low fat, high in carbs/ sugar, etc.
I always thought that natives can't eat a modern American diet because they're designed for live-off-the-land types of diets. Wild game, foraging, like a hunter- gatherer. A good way to mimic that would be a combination of low carb/keto/carnivore/intermittent fasting.

I am now over 40, and I do really well with just 1 big meal per day. Typically I will eat about 2 meals. I guess I might eat 3 meals, but I shift it, to later time. That means, breakfast will be at lunch time (my first meal), then dinner at 6pm, then late night 11pm for meal#3. So that's 3 meals actually. I do well with that. But if the meal is huge, it easily covers 2 meals. For me. For my body. And I feel great. (skip breakfast at 6:00am -- I'm done with that.)

Everyone has always asked me how I always look fit despite not working out much at all. Have been telling them it's because of fasting to eat generally 1 meal a day other than the rare 2 meals. They've always told me that it makes no sense and that I just "have good genes" or "just got lucky with a fast metabolism".
Meanwhile, I've never seen a skinny or fit person that eats 4,000 calories a day and doesn't workout or exercise with their job and I've never seen a fat person that practices any sort of fasting.
Coincidence? Likely not.

I only eat 2 meals a day and they are 4-5 hours apart at most (I mild cardio/exercise in between the meals). I've done this naturally since my late 20's and just recently found out that although maybe not quite as effective as what David is explaining, but essentially if you can spend at least 18 hours not eating then it's good for you.

How the hell does he know what happened 6 million years ago? Honestly the best advice given regarding food came from Prophet Muhammad. Just go and research this and how these modern guys are just catching up.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat a few mouthfuls, to keep him going. If he must do that (fill his stomach), then let him fill one third with food, one third with drink and one third with air.”

I would love to see Joe off TRT. I have a very strong suspicion a lot of this cool motivational image, physique and attitude would go down the drain pretty quick. Also re David Sinclair, he is extremely careful about optics - both his physique and the potential of his research. The first class of compounds he was hyping were acquired by GSK for 700m, but the project was shut down after a few years as they were found to be ineffective. Coast hypocrisy syndrome, Boston/LA grifters.
