Not really, anyway. The chances that one day trillions upon trillions of atoms would all come together and make a sentient little sack of anxiety are unimaginably small. Yet here we are, wandering around the Earth, asking the question “why us?!” When you really think about it we might just be a cosmic joke – creatures aware enough to know the big questions, but not smart enough to answer them. If your little bundle of atoms worry about the odds that you’d be here to worry in the first place, then this video is for you! Charge into dark matters and solve the great mysteries of the universe with Sean Carroll. This video comes from our Outside The Box event series - live online events that feature prolific speakers whose ideas will challenge and change the way you see the world. Find out more at https://thinkinc.org.au/events/outsid... ABOUT THINK INC. Think Inc. is a community of individuals on a mission to expose the true face of modern society. Armed with ideas, we defy the stale conventions of learning by shifting the world’s attention to global ideas, while opening minds. We’re not on the fringe. We are trendsetters with the power to shift perceptions and reshape the face of the mainstream. In 2014, Think Inc. launched with the mandate of creating a community where ideas can be shared, challenged, voiced and became a champion of democratising ideas. On this foundation, Think Inc. has grown into a powerful collective. Thanks for the continuing education. Harry Nicholas Harry Nicholas 9 months ago in that case, as i'm too lazy to work it out for myself (although i suppose there's prolly a website dedicated to it somewhere) what if the speed of light was indeed "1" what would all our other measurements come to? i love seans "time passes at one second per second" line, makes for a lol. Stephanie Romer Stephanie Romer 10 months ago Love it. Right out of the gate: “Imagine the Hubble glued to your eyeball”. Glenn 1 John smith John smith 1 year ago Is this not Sean Carroll at his most charming? Then, at 34:00, a nascent exposition; a new approach, as it were. And through Carroll's clarity, the import of the ideas hits you.... Whoooaah! 3 Glen Birbeck Glen Birbeck 5 days ago When I imagine the afterlife I'm sitting at a table on a pleasant afternoon engaged in conversation with God and Einstein. God is patient with Einstein and Einstein is patient with me but I don't strive for understanding the details. I just want to appreciate the vastness of it all. A fly on the table rubs its wings together and winks at me, like the Buddha rotating the lotus flower. It is saying, "you try too hard". R C R C 1 year ago Wow this is really great! How is it that I was not subscribed to ThinkInc? 5 Aurélien Carnoy Aurélien Carnoy 1 year ago Gravity from a quantum mecanic. Quantum fluctuations generates energy differential. (At larger scale it can add up or subtract.) That energy differential generates a flow and like the Hawking radiation that flow separates virtual particles into real particles. Not a lot but enough to add to the flow into cosmic rivers also knows as cosmic web. An other way of looking at it is: the energy differential is pinching the waves of probability. This is accentuating the effect of the flow. Think of a string you pinch. The amplitude is small where you pinch. Now think cymatics. Where the plate have large amplitude, the sand moves away from, to fall in region of small amplitude. That is what is happening with cosmic void, it has large amplitude. This is what is happening in galactic filaments, there is small amplitude. So instead of bent space time we have vibrating space time. Where the even horizon pinches that vibration like a string. So the instead of a curved space going "down" at the singularity, space time is undulating in a fish symbol. Going down and up " ∝" What does it mean? Every black hole is a pocket univers. The gravity that formed the black hole appears, from the inside, as expansion or dark energy. Okay i got more but i got to wake up tomorrow. 😘 Let me know what you think in the comments below. GIANTSPACE GIANTSPACE 10 months ago Expert and a very charming man at the same time 👍 Brian Holmes Brian Holmes 11 months ago The question that I've been pondering for a while now is not why, how, or when the Big Bang occurred, but why did it happen at the particular location that it did? Why was this infinite energy focused in that specific place and not somewhere else? Random chance, or more likely, was there was a reason for that exact four-dimensional coordinate? I would LOVE to hear educated speculations/explanations.... Sean Spartan Sean Spartan 1 year ago A recent study has shown more evidence for modified gravity over dark matter. 1 Toefuy Kon Toefuy Kon 1 year ago how the universe operates. 😆 This is a "massive" question. What if our observations of the speed of light are relative to how fast our galaxy moves through space? Empty spaces being the medium that causes the static of the quantum field. Does are galaxy move faster than we perceive? The speed of our galaxy is actually the constant? Light is the resistance... yeah! But why? And how? John Worthington John Worthington 6 months ago (edited) I hear equilibrium - 14:31 - Nothing being preposterous about this... All things being equal.. I have a question about basic math... Will math change along with the change of the universe? From classical to quantum? This may sound stupid. Sorry in advance... Toefuy Kon Toefuy Kon 1 year ago (edited) We are in a black hole... and the Higgs boson is where there is not enough "light" ( "con sciousness" haha) to create a resistance.... so that's where dreams are made? Fractals? The question I ponder... why and how do we get or are able to choose?
