What lies in store for humanity? Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku explains how different life will be for your descendants—and maybe your future self, if the timing works out.

❍ Up next: Time travel is possible. Can we go back? https://youtu.be/pQN2OPBaErI
Carl Sagan believed humanity needed to become a multi-planet species as an insurance policy against the next huge catastrophe on Earth. Now, Elon Musk is working to see that mission through, starting with a colony of a million humans on Mars. Where will our species go next?
Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku looks decades into the future and makes three bold predictions about human space travel, the potential of 'brain net', and our coming victory over cancer.
"[I]n the future, the word 'tumor' will disappear from the English language," says Kaku. "We will have years of warning that there is a colony of cancer cells growing in our body. And our descendants will wonder: How could we fear cancer so much?"

❍ About The Well ❍
Do we inhabit a multiverse? Do we have free will? What is love? Is evolution directional? There are no simple answers to life’s biggest questions, and that’s why they’re the questions occupying the world’s brightest minds.
So what do they think?
How is the power of science advancing understanding? How are philosophers and theologians tackling these fascinating questions?
Let’s dive into The Well.

I've listened to Michio Kaku for many years, mostly to compare my knowledge to his, my predictions to his, I have also been aware of his humor. However, I've never seen it this displayed before. He doesn't make himself as available as he used to for interviews probably because he's getting a bit old and tired of that routine. But it seems to me he'd be a good stand up comedian.

That’s really interesting! I am a little skeptical about us “needing” to be an interplanetary species because I think it is a lot easier to build a resilient habitat on Earth than on Mars or any other planet that looks worse than a worst case scenario for Earth would likely ever be. But with sophisticated robots that could set up contained environments it could be a possibility.
I think our means of communicating emotions already through body language, speech, etc. is already incredibly sophisticated so I don’t see the need to wire emotions directly through brain computer interfaces. But it could be very interesting to modify our emotions directly since our emotions determine how we react to and process different stimuli. It could potentially be a boon for therapy - overriding people’s instinct to respond to a situation with fear or panic instead with positive emotions.
I do think that smart toilets will make things like cancer treatable far earlier and save a lot of lives and expense. I could even see insurance companies buying them for people or companies to save millions on eventual cancer treatment.

I am thankful for this professor's knowledge. And it is so interesting I'm terrified of the future. Honestly, who can understand what the destiny of humanity is? I will always live in a state of conscience- unconcscienceness until I'm granted the gift of not being alive. Take solace in God and just take me away and give me the peace of have enjoyed the Era in which I have lived and experienced. Save the future for the next generations.

1) The off-world ideas are mostly profit driven and will have to be replaced with lucrative schemes, ie: you're paid and provided for to create a better than earth off-world situation.
2) Communications will change with and after we iron out the mistakes in present examples and forms. While useful in some situations the machine part will be outdone by (r)evolution of love on a global level.
3) Progress on combating diseases will continue, so will our knowledge and utilisation of DNA.
I'm missing a driving force for most progress here and that will be new ways of energy management, starting with batteries all up to fusion.
And of course many things we haven't even begun to fathom yet.

Maybe we our species is already spread throughout the universe ! Maybe we were brought here to Earth from other life forms throughout the universe's but we are all different looking according to the environments and chemical make ups of other planets and somehow we are all all connected to the universe. There is so much life out there. Just something to think about thanks for listening.

Wonderful information but we should remind ourselves that Elon himself would never be the first to fly to Mars so why should anyone else? Those naive volunteers are going to be isolated and miserable. And miserable people tend to self-destruct. We have to work to understand and be inspired by ourselves instead of looking to billionaires for inspiration.

We need to colonize Mars now. We have the technology today. We could of colonized Mars at the end of the 1980s had We started in the mid 1970s like we were talking about back then. Today we are lead by people who can't even make new laws to help our own people.

I remember watching a movie where the toilet was supposed to be keeping track of a person's health and they had to dump old urine into the bowl so that it wouldn't detect that the person was drinking. It ended up where the guy had to get surgery, and if the intelligent toilet had detected alcohol, he would have been denied by his insurance. Big brother is watching you even as you s#!t

This world that he is describing sounds horrible. Completely taking away from the human experience. It’s not his fault, it’s probably going to happen. I just hope my kids get to live at least a part of the human experience that I enjoyed. Pretty sad if technology takes us in that direction but I will continue to enjoy my camping and fishing with my kids until that is no longer the norm. Our kids or their kids are gonna be living in a messed up reality.

Jesus told Christians to pray for God's Kingdom to come and for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven, Matthew 6:9,10! God's Kingdom is a heavenly government ruled by Jesus Christ as King. Soon Jesus will bring beautiful changes to the earth. There will be no more death, pain or sorrow on earth, Psalms 37:9-11! After Armageddon the meek will inherit the earth and live forever on it, Psalm 37:29; Matthew 5:5; Proverbs 2:21,22! Jesus will do on a grand scale what he did when he walked the earth including raising those who are asleep in death, John 5:28,29! The earth will be cultivated into a Paradise like God intended in the beginning, Genesis 1:28; Isaiah 55:11! There will only be one government over the entire earth forever, Daniel 2:44! Jesus said that this good news of the Kingdom would be preached about in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come, Matthew 24:14! In order to receive everlasting life and the blessings that God has promised, we must worship the Father with spirit and truth, John 4:22-24! Isaiah 42:8; Psalms 83:18!

Physicist Michio Kaku has already probed the neuroscientific frontiers of the human mind—including telekinesis, telepathy, and dreams. In The Future of Humanity, Kaku turns to a broader and less fathomable frontier: the universe. With irrepressible enthusiasm and a deep understanding of the cutting-edge research in space travel, Kaku comes to CHF for an inspiring conversation ranging from wormholes to artificial intelligence, and a future in which humanity finally achieves what was once deemed impossible: living among the stars.
This program is presented in partnership with Illinois Science Council. This program was recorded on April 11, 2019.

..I always wondered in school (university) where does the 1/x and -1/x graphs( and the likes) go too? Surely, it's a ball or a 3D object, that we looking at, thinking in 2D?
There must be a point, that it reaches zero. Then, curve inwards to another axis.( " parallel " university ) or curve outwards, because the axis line still is moving, and there has to be a point - somewhere - where it flips.
Yip, and that's why I never pass maths or physics...

Great that they found a black hole. And I also believe in the idea that our universe is a white hole of a black hole in a parent universe. Actually, the whole multiverse tree of black/white hole universes could be an ever expanding quantum computer that was the result of a technological singularity and an intelligence explosion in just ONE root universe.

im in a strangely peculiar mood and id like to share an anecdote. i was very young, maybe about 4 and was feeling deeply contemplative about logic and physics. i had just recently come to a deeply personal conclusion about opposits containing each other and being in a funny way identical, and was fooling around with the temperature knob in the bathtub, and noticed that the very hot setting and the very cold setting produced an distinctly similar sensation of numbness on my skin, which, based off my earlier conclusions, let me to theorize that perhaps temperature was circular, and that perhaps the most extreme heat actually went right past hot back to absolute zero. i dont know if what im saying has any theoretic validity, or even why exactly im sharing this, but it was a deeply personal experience i held onto for a very long time. love your work. :)

I haven't even watched the video yet but I guess the following are at least mentioned: einsteins desk, string theory, "one inch long", particle accelerator in the garage, "my son needs a nice japanese girlfriend", ASIMO + "cockroach joke", 3 types of civilisations with earth being at 0.
Those are just off the top of my head.
I'll watch the video later and see how much I got correct, but those are the things he mentions in almost every single interview within the last decade.

michio, no disrespect, but there are certain distinct phenomena that string theory cannot acurately represent compactly or intelligably, like the epicycles of history, human consciousness,or even black holes themselves. ive jokingly stated that such nonlinear self recursive phenomena could be theoretically represented by adding a yoyo to the end of your strings, but maybe im Not joking. i certainly dont have time to work on that kind of mathematical framework. we both definitely agree, though, on the triune nature of vibration being completely fundamental. although, i do wish that you would have come up with at least ONE new popular metaphor, or published SOMETHING readable i had access to over the past ten years. all jokes aside, you've done a great service to the feild. all this new black hole physics is extremely exciting. to infinity and beyond. :)

a key to dark matter or no time for energy exchange
short version
Energy exchange limit or limit for two point to interact.
it is a bit hard to write down this thought for me.
if two points have relative speed more then speed of light, they not able to interact.
but they can interact through the third point. (exactly like dark matter)
1)You know how space can expand faster then light? And it also can curve?
soo, it most likely can curve true it selfe. and this how it not interacting with it selfe.
(in black holes space curveture length is extremely small)
2) How many time need for Sun to exchange energy with you? soo every energy exchange take some "time".
There for if two point have speed difference more then C, they will have no "time" to exchange energyx, have no "time" for exchange to occure.
Even if they will share same place.
also you may see it as, FLT parts in more then one place at a "time" compare to us. For FLT part we in less then one place at "time". (why mass go up)
it more about interaction limin then about speed of light.
can be tested, if we will represent a third point.
long version
-dark matter in our galaxy, (most likely particles emitted by central black hole)
is particles that moving faster than light. (most likely you do not "belive" in this)
if i assume it is correct, then big amount of hydrogen on edge of galaxy, is where this "dark matter particles" decay after losing speed. (decay like new particles from hadron collider)
-parts of dark matter alredy found, but we do not about it. (perseption(particles from hadron collider))
-particles found with hadron collider behave like a dark matter after loosing speed.
-most likely there is a energy exchange speed limit in betwen two points (not sound speed),
most likely it is a speed of light. (that about why we do not see dark matter, but see it interction with other(slower for it/faster for us) particles)
-particles from hadron collider will be stable if placed in faster then light speed.
whant to tell more, I hope this is enough to contact me.
the key is a energy exchange speed limit
(i want my Nobel for showing you dark matter)
Best regards,
Dynin A.I.

im in a very strange mood... i have a question to do with the state dependent theory of cognition, from psycology: if all future experience is conditioned by the past, and if we are having a crisis of consciousness, which i think is hard to deny at this point, might we be able to construct a theoretically tenable baseline of shared common somatic memory and by non local interferance beams, download an awareness of potential futures into the brains of all humans, a la total recall, to guide humanity toward positive potential futures, while mitigating the risk of negative ones, while at the same time forming a completely visceral and tangable emotional bonding between all of the human race, with the help of quantum computers and the theoretical frameworks of asmr and coherer technologies? im genuinely currious, is this possible? thanks. :)

A recent scientific experiment could impact our understanding about the laws of physics. It found evidence from the behavior of an atomic particle that points to undiscovered forces in the universe that may have played a critical part in its creation and expansion. Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, author of the new book "Cosmic Queries: StarTalk's Guide to Who We Are, How We Got Here, and Where We're Going," joins CBSN AM to talk about the discovery.
CBSN is CBS News’ 24/7 digital streaming news service featuring live, anchored coverage available for free across all platforms. Launched in November 2014, the service is a premier destination for breaking news and original storytelling from the deep bench of CBS News correspondents and reporters. CBSN features the top stories of the day as well as deep dives into key issues facing the nation and the world. CBSN has also expanded to launch local news streaming services in major markets across the country. When I first came across NdGT I thought he was arrogant but as I followed him and listened to him I realised I was wrong. Infact I now find him the best interpreter, incredibly enthusiastic, Ive seen him take complicated answers from others and reinterpret them in a "simpler" way so the average Joe might try to understand it. That is his best quality. To bring the love of science to others so it might inspire them to learn.

The new forces will explain how ufo's work and can achieve speeds in the atmosphere without breaking the sound barrier. most of our flying machines push against air, ufo's don't. Think of it like boats on a river, one (our planes) is powered by oars that push against the water, you have to row really hard to move at quite a slow speed. the other one (ufo's) use a pole and push against the solid bed, acceleration is instant and is faster than rowing. These "new" forces will be fundamental in forming new methods of travel, both in atmosphere and in space, the "river bed" they push against will be the gravity that exists throughout the spacetime of the universe.

I think reality has infinite layers above and below us. Where the same processes happen at different scales. I think each individual human is part of a super organism. Just like we are made of cells. Everything is just perspective. Empty space and distance is just an illusion. The force acting on the particle is its own intelligence and free will. Our universe is intelligent. And it's a part of a larger universe. I believe everything is connected to everything in a way we cant imagine.

You need to look at gravity as the fabric of space. It's what everything is made from, everything. It's everywhere in space because it is space itself. It's the smallest thing there is, being it's what the smallest particles are made of, and yet it affects everything.

It’s a shame. Jake Paul knocks out Ben askren and gets millions of views.
Neil Degrasse Tyson talks about New scientific discoveries and gets a little more than 30 thousand views.
The age of idiocracy is upon us.

I'm not convinced in the sanctity of high energy physics. Seems to me like they're making measurements in an accelerated frame of reference.

The only consistent thing I've ever learned from science...
Is that it is always a "work in progress"
Just when you think you've covered all the bases...
Ya find out there is another level to the "game".

I think as much as we think we understand there is billions more we will never even fathom.. I think each planet or mass in space pushes mass away just as much as it brings toward itself.. There are many more forces obviously.. we are just not able to find them just yet :) I love exploring thought about this stuff..

This video shows as many others do that science is changing in what it understands as it is a community. It shows that there are many things unknown to man and how we really do not know what we do not know.

Ok let's talk about this.
Anybody who as a kid or a physics student played with a top or gyro knows what spin is and precession. No problem.
But spin is not exactly what the quantum doppelganger is.
So spin of the top is not exactly the same thing as the spin of the muon.
Then we get all shook up when the precession of the top is not exactly the same as the precession of the muon.
So if the spin is an imperfect match
Why should the precession be imperfect as well?

For those that are interested in Michael J. Neufeld's description of the history of spaceflight as it relates specifically to spaceflight, he wrote a book in 2018 called "Spaceflight" - A concise History. It's a good little pocket book.
Side note: Dr. Kaku's science popularization is what made me become a physicist. I heard him talk about time travel on a special feature on a Dr. Who dvd. He completely captivated my interests and I have been avidly studying physics ever since. I didn't even have a GED at the time, now I'm about to graduate with my physics degree as head of my physics club at a University after clawing my way through a community college and will continue on to grad school. I digress, thanks for contributing to the passions of future scientists by popularizing it with your enthusiasm.

Althoigh Fritz Harber was a serious German supporter & officer in World War I. The Nazis didn't exist then. He was brought up Jewish but converted to Catholism, but that didn't matter enough for the Nazis, so Harber was pretty much run out of Germany by the Nazis, when Hitler came to power in 1933 and, already in poor health, died in Bern, Switzerland in 1934 at the age of 65.
So he worked for Germany but never worked for the Nazis.

Fritz Haber was not a Nazi scientist , he was a German scientist and did not work for the Nazis at all .
The fact that the methods he developed were used later by the Nazis does not mean he worked for the Nazis and refering to him as a Nazi scientist is a falsification of history and just utterly wrong! Haber was kicked out of Germany by the Nazis because he was Jewish. He worked for the German government and military during WW1 (since he considered himself to be a proud German and his aim was to help his country win the war), but that government had nothing to do with Nazism.

Dear Professor Kaku,
I have questions for you.
Is black hole 3D or 2D object?
If it is 3D then what is it volume? How much can it sucks in? Can we go around it to see all of it?
If it is 2D can we pierce it?
What is black hole is not an object and it is a hole at the end our universe where the pressure of our universe is bigger than the pressure out side; there for it create the suction of black hole.
Example a balloon is represent our universe and black hole is a hole on it.
