Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku explains how different life will be for your descendants—and maybe your future self, if the timing works out. ❍ Subscribe to The Well on YouTube: https://bit.ly/welcometothewell ❍ Up next: Time travel is possible. Can we go back? https://youtu.be/pQN2OPBaErI Carl Sagan believed humanity needed to become a multi-planet species as an insurance policy against the next huge catastrophe on Earth. Now, Elon Musk is working to see that mission through, starting with a colony of a million humans on Mars. Where will our species go next? Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku looks decades into the future and makes three bold predictions about human space travel, the potential of 'brain net', and our coming victory over cancer. "[I]n the future, the word 'tumor' will disappear from the English language," says Kaku. "We will have years of warning that there is a colony of cancer cells growing in our body. And our descendants will wonder: How could we fear cancer so much?" Do we have free will? What is love? Is evolution directional? There are no simple answers to life’s biggest questions, and that’s why they’re the questions occupying the world’s brightest minds. So what do they think? How is the power of science advancing understanding? How are philosophers and theologians tackling these fascinating questions? The Well Pinned by The Well The Well 2 months ago Do you agree with these predictions? 14 Planet Earth Planet Earth 2 months ago (edited) I've listened to Michio Kaku for many years, mostly to compare my knowledge to his, my predictions to his, I have also been aware of his humor. However, I've never seen it this displayed before. He doesn't make himself as available as he used to for interviews probably because he's getting a bit old and tired of that routine. But it seems to me he'd be a good stand up comedian. 12 The Well K A K A 1 month ago (edited) usually I don't click on advertisement but when you have the great professor I can't help myself but to click and also subscribe 22 Toby Muresianu Toby Muresianu 2 months ago That’s really interesting! I am a little skeptical about us “needing” to be an interplanetary species because I think it is a lot easier to build a resilient habitat on Earth than on Mars or any other planet that looks worse than a worst case scenario for Earth would likely ever be. But with sophisticated robots that could set up contained environments it could be a possibility. I think our means of communicating emotions already through body language, speech, etc. is already incredibly sophisticated so I don’t see the need to wire emotions directly through brain computer interfaces. But it could be very interesting to modify our emotions directly since our emotions determine how we react to and process different stimuli. It could potentially be a boon for therapy - overriding people’s instinct to respond to a situation with fear or panic instead with positive emotions. I do think that smart toilets will make things like cancer treatable far earlier and save a lot of lives and expense. I could even see insurance companies buying them for people or companies to save millions on eventual cancer treatment. 4 The Well High Society High Society 1 month ago I had no idea this is how Stephen Hawkings communicated I love science 4 M K M K 1 month ago Omg Michio Kaku is really brilliant!!!! And it is so interesting I'm terrified of the future. Honestly, who can understand what the destiny of humanity is? I will always live in a state of conscience- unconcscienceness until I'm granted the gift of not being alive. Take solace in God and just take me away and give me the peace of have enjoyed the Era in which I have lived and experienced. While useful in some situations the machine part will be outdone by (r)evolution of love on a global level. 3) Progress on combating diseases will continue, so will our knowledge and utilisation of DNA. I'm missing a driving force for most progress here and that will be new ways of energy management, starting with batteries all up to fusion. And of course many things we haven't even begun to fathom yet. 4 The Well MarinaCapri MarinaCapri 2 months ago (edited) Maybe we our species is already spread throughout the universe ! Maybe we were brought here to Earth from other life forms throughout the universe's but we are all different looking according to the environments and chemical make ups of other planets and somehow we are all all connected to the universe. There is so much life out there. Just something to think about thanks for listening. 3 The Well jonny the boy jonny the boy 1 month ago I would go to Mars in a heartbeat, but I doubt they would take a 60-year old broken-down lineman. I'll watch the video later and see how much I got correct, but those are the things he mentions in almost every single interview within the last decade. 2 Will B Will B 3 years ago michio, no disrespect, but there are certain distinct phenomena that string theory cannot acurately represent compactly or intelligably, like the epicycles of history, human consciousness,or even black holes themselves. ive jokingly stated that such nonlinear self recursive phenomena could be theoretically represented by adding a yoyo to the end of your strings, but maybe im Not joking. i certainly dont have time to work on that kind of mathematical framework. we both definitely agree, though, on the triune nature of vibration being completely fundamental. although, i do wish that you would have come up with at least ONE new popular metaphor, or published SOMETHING readable i had access to over the past ten years. all jokes aside, you've done a great service to the feild. all this new black hole physics is extremely exciting. to infinity and beyond. :) 4 Earla Weese Earla Weese 1 year ago Let’s all come together and hurry the future up; I don’t think we’re doing enough to bring the future about. Guy VanBuren Guy VanBuren 1 year ago Love this man Андрей Дынин Андрей Дынин 3 years ago a key to dark matter or no time for energy exchange short version Energy exchange limit or limit for two point to interact. it is a bit hard to write down this thought for me. if two points have relative speed more then speed of light, they not able to interact. but they can interact through the third point. (exactly like dark matter) 1)You know how space can expand faster then light? And it also can curve? soo, it most likely can curve true it selfe. and this how it not interacting with it selfe. (in black holes space curveture length is extremely small) 2) How many time need for Sun to exchange energy with you? soo every energy exchange take some "time". There for if two point have speed difference more then C, they will have no "time" to exchange energyx, have no "time" for exchange to occure. Even if they will share same place. also you may see it as, FLT parts in more then one place at a "time" compare to us. For FLT part we in less then one place at "time". (why mass go up) it more about interaction limin then about speed of light. can be tested, if we will represent a third point. long version -dark matter in our galaxy, (most likely particles emitted by central black hole) is particles that moving faster than light. (most likely you do not "belive" in this) if i assume it is correct, then big amount of hydrogen on edge of galaxy, is where this "dark matter particles" decay after losing speed. (decay like new particles from hadron collider) -parts of dark matter alredy found, but we do not about it. (perseption(particles from hadron collider)) -particles found with hadron collider behave like a dark matter after loosing speed. -most likely there is a energy exchange speed limit in betwen two points (not sound speed), most likely it is a speed of light. (that about why we do not see dark matter, but see it interction with other(slower for it/faster for us) particles) -particles from hadron collider will be stable if placed in faster then light speed. whant to tell more, I hope this is enough to contact me. the key is a energy exchange speed limit (i want my Nobel for showing you dark matter) Best regards, Dynin A.I. 2 anil sharma anil sharma 1 year ago All the formula of universe are now clear Given me halfway Prize winner with micheo kaku 🕉🕉🕉🕉🕉 greg herman greg herman 3 years ago When I was 14 I invented a time machine , yep I came to realize that if you wanna travel in time all you have to do is wait C Robinson C Robinson 3 years ago The humour physics brings to the world is astonishing. Think of it like boats on a river, one (our planes) is powered by oars that push against the water, you have to row really hard to move at quite a slow speed. the other one (ufo's) use a pole and push against the solid bed, acceleration is instant and is faster than rowing. These "new" forces will be fundamental in forming new methods of travel, both in atmosphere and in space, the "river bed" they push against will be the gravity that exists throughout the spacetime of the universe. The Nazis didn't exist then. He was brought up Jewish but converted to Catholism, but that didn't matter enough for the Nazis, so Harber was pretty much run out of Germany by the Nazis, when Hitler came to power in 1933 and, already in poor health, died in Bern, Switzerland in 1934 at the age of 65. Is black hole 3D or 2D object? If it is 3D then what is it volume? How much can it sucks in? Can we go around it to see all of it? If it is 2D can we pierce it? What is black hole is not an object and it is a hole at the end our universe where the pressure of our universe is bigger than the pressure out side; there for it create the suction of black hole. Example a balloon is represent our universe and black hole is a hole on it. Jason Madrid Jason Madrid 3 years ago haha scientist is misspelled in the title.
