He made fundamental contributions to chemistry and biology. he could have won 3 nobel prizes independent of the one for peace. 17 Ben John Ben John 3 years ago (edited) In 1967, my grandfather met Linus Pauling during his visit in India. He was proud to receive a book from Pauling. 38 Jean LeTual Jean LeTual 13 years ago Remarkable! He convinced the Soviet and the World to stop nuclear testing in the earth's atmosphere! If we are still here; It is because of men like him. 24 Grace Norris Grace Norris 2 years ago Dr Pauling was a great scientist and political activist! He won two unshared Nobel Prizes—the 1954 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and the 1962 Nobel Peace Prize—the only person to have done so; plus also received many awards and accolades, including some fifty honorary degrees, the National Medal of Science, the National Academy of Science Medal in Chemical Sciences, the Pasteur Medal, the Priestly Medal, and the Presidential Medal for Merit. 13 jillian tristan jillian tristan 7 years ago Linus Pauling's great grandson is a friend of mine who lives in Geneva Paris and Northern California fighting for peace in a world without weapons. What is happening in our world when we don't listen to the intelligence of mankind that this man was so exemplary of? We are definitely in trouble. 9 Evan Stafford Evan Stafford 8 years ago Very inspiring to see Linus, wow. 8 Samuel Jacob Pauling Samuel Jacob Pauling 10 years ago Proud to be part of the Pauling family! 13 Werner Heisenberg Werner Heisenberg 3 years ago One of the truly great scientists who, by the way, speaks excellent German. 4 gbiota1 gbiota1 7 years ago Anyone care to comment on the question the moderator asked "Why has it been so difficult to bridge this gap between the insights of scientists and the thinking and actions of our politicians?" Personally, I think this is a terribly important question. You can only have so much internal conflict before you tear yourself apart. We can only allow the smartest people in the world to design our technology for so long, before putting that technology in the hands of the stupidest people results in our destruction. My answer in the disparity is that politicians are elected by people whose education on scientific insight is not increasing in tandem with its importance to political decisions. Politicians get power largely be placating ignorant and emotional reactions, scientists get degrees and make discoveries by mechanisms entirely different from popular consent. 20 Bruno Pinto Bruno Pinto 12 years ago One of the biggest scientists ever 15 08CARIB 08CARIB 6 years ago At around the 8 minute mark he really touched me with his words about his wife "..... i had to retain the respect of my wife..." 7 Mao Tsé-Tung Mao Tsé-Tung 4 years ago (edited) Ele conseguiu dois prêmios nóbel, incrível! 1 RoyalSnowbird RoyalSnowbird 12 years ago One of the best interviews of one of the greatest minds and humanitarian princes of peace the world has ever known. I used to be a part of the medical establishment, but not anymore. 9 Milind Shirke Milind Shirke 2 years ago Thanks 🙏👏🏻 J C J C 9 years ago Wow, what a bizarre way to look at it. Here's a more rational, evidence-based way: Pauling outgrew his scientific humility after two Nobels and a career of staggering, unparalleled success in science. When he became seriously ill, he chose to trust his own intuitions and ability over the consensus of experts who knew a lot more about cancer than he did (let's not forget the prelude of his stubborn, wrong ideas about DNA). Today the conspiratorial and ignorant embrace him their own hero. Sad. J C J C 9 years ago Well, I think you clearly can extrapolate from the 36 people you know to overturning decades of cancer research done by scientists who are all a hell of a lot smarter than you are. I'm perfectly fine with you taking vitamins or doing nothing or praying or sticking spaghetti up your nose when it's YOUR cancer treatment under consideration. What I sincerely hope for is that you aren't in charge of making medical decisions for anyone else. 1 Ronak Sharma Ronak Sharma 1 year ago Seems like everyone in comment section have a family member that met him. 2 Dusty Durr Dusty Durr 5 years ago Even great men and intelligent men can be wrong. And also should be included in all medical schools, colleges curriculum for it's very vital and important informations...better yet, put it into law! Make it mandatory to all doctors worldwide to be knowledgable with it! I've just lost a very close relative. She died of pneumonia caused by an infectious decease called Swine Flu. She was rushed to the ER and immediately confined in ICU. After only two to five days of ICU confinement, she deteriorated rapidly and the doctors were convinced she will not make it and ready to pull the plugs on her respiratory support equipments.... But before they did, I saw this video here on YouTube about a man who had the same situation as my aunt, passed thru his ordeal and survived.... When we told this to my aunt doctors (even played and showed them the video), they said they never heard about this kind of procedure or administration. And just to shut us up about this, they gave her 2mg of vitamin-C thru her I.V. and gave it an hour for observation. Then they decided to pull the plug... I said that was ignorant! So, Please follow my recommendation about the distribution of these Informations as I already started doing so to save future lives. Thank you... 46 Heeramaglore Krishna Srinivas Heeramaglore Krishna Srinivas 4 years ago Its absolutely great to hear the great scientist 4 Osmond the Wicked Osmond the Wicked 6 years ago (edited) This man lived longer than my Cajun grandmother, who was a homemaker and died at 92. It turns out I had low iron level and my white blood cell count was a little low. I have been taking vitamin c in sodium ascorbate form orally for the last 2 weeks at least 15000 mg a day. I went to hospital 2 days ago for health reasons and had another round of blood tests. Well my white blood cell count went from 3800 to 5700. I hadn’t changed any other thing except vitamin c intake, and an iron tablet. Also I had a mouth ulcer and it healed in 3 days, which is insane as I get mouth ulcers every now and then, and they take between 8 and 14 days to heal. 13 Master Maguilla Jiu Jitsu Old School Master Maguilla Jiu Jitsu Old School 5 months ago And he was right all along, that’s why I follow his advice for many years now 2 jett888 jett888 8 years ago Running into Dr. M Raths' research regarding Vit. The principle of quantum superposition is essentially a basic property of the wave function. By example of benzene molecule is shown that the principle of quantum superposition, and hence the quantum mechanics in general is in insurmountable conflict with the resonance theory. Robert Clayton Robert Clayton 6 years ago You can get massive amounts of Vitamin C from a natural diet, our primate cousins do. They get around 3 to 10 grams. We now consume many of our calories from foods that don't contain Vitamin C. If our bodies could be made Vitamin C generators again we would be making around 5 grams. Which ever way you look at it, our RDAs are a nonsense. RDAs for Vitamins are set at those amounts needed to prevent overt deficiency diseases, not those amounts for optimal health. Vitamin D is showing the folly of this way of thinking; not having rickets does NOT mean that your Vitamin D status is adequate. Not having scurvy does NOT mean your Vitamin C is adequate. Linus Pauling is giant among scientists as well as being a wonderful man. 40 Wolf3fd Wolf3fd 5 years ago My biochemistry teacher knew this guy and once told us a story how he was talking to Dr. Linus Pauling about taking overdosis of vit.
