#Epigenetics #Longevity #DNAMethylation Epigenetic Aging: How old is your DNA? 66,323 viewsDec 15, 2020 3.8K DISLIKE SHARE DOWNLOAD CLIP SAVE FoundMyFitness 426K subscribers Dr. Steve Horvath, a professor of genetics and biostatistics at UCLA, has found a way to measure biological aging – a type of "clock" – based on the methylation pattern of an organism's genome. Methylations are biochemical processes that modify the activity of a DNA segment without changing its sequence – a type of epigenetic change. This video primer explains the basics of epigenetic clocks, the topic of our interview with Dr. Steve Horvath, coming soon! Get the show notes here: https://www.foundmyfitness.com/episod... In my estimation Drs. Rhonda Patrick and Valter Longo are absolute leaders in the field in presenting emerging scientific research in terms understandable by anyone. 18 FoundMyFitness Future Point. // Luis Angel Future Point. // Luis Angel 1 year ago I love these infographic style videos. I enjoyed watching your tryptophan metabolism and fish roe videos. I have now added that to my diet. Any new insights on the potential advantages of that over regular fish DHA? Also, could you do a video on the benefits or Red Light devices? Reza Vaziri Reza Vaziri 1 year ago What are your thoughts on David Sinclairs work on OSK-induced epigenetic reprogramming? It sounds like a pretty unique way to achieve the desired methylation patterns, and strengthens the the case for a correlation between epigenetic age and biological age. Thanks for posting more epigenetic content! Higher Resolution Higher Resolution 1 year ago Excellent presentation. Much appreciated. Fascinating subject. Apart from methylation of histone proteins, 8 of which form the basis of chromosone packaging when the double helix of DNA wraps around themj, histone modification also takes place at different locations on different amino acids in the form of phosphorylation, acetylation, ubiquitylation and sumoylation. By no means is methylation the only game in town. BapCorp BapCorp 1 year ago This research is Amazing, look forward to more. We are told that heat stress is extremely positive for the body. Larry Kraft Larry Kraft 1 year ago Loved the playful P.S. at the end of this video. Given that you, “turned up [your] heat shock proteins”, yes, I imagine you must have changed your epigenome. Thanks as always for your evenhanded explanation of the science that is being done in this area. Thanks also for the reminder that I intended to get a sauna after seeing the evidence you shared about that before! ComedyJesus ComedyJesus 1 year ago Another outstanding video, thanks DRP! Michael Angelillo Michael Angelillo 1 year ago Will be interesting to see, although will probably take decades of epidemiological research to confirm if epigenetic age is a proxy measure or an actual measure of life expectancy, i.e. if improving your epigenetic age actually improves how long you'd live then it's a true measure. Although I bet life insurance companies will love to have an even more accurate method to predict individual age of death outside of accident. I was wondering on a loosely related note: do you think I could get away with a mustard seed capsule taken right after my broccoli sprouts or does it need to be blended into the smoothie? I want to take my sulforaphane optimally, but I’m having a lot of trouble getting down that spicy taste. Neobellator Neobellator 1 year ago 😮 Really interesting! Great work with the infographic. I look forward to the interview with Dr. Horvath! shiftychance shiftychance 1 year ago I'm a full believer in epigenetic changes affecting biological age. This is based on my experience with the antibiotic Levofloxacin, an adverse reaction to it, and research pointing to intracellular epigenetic changes being a likely cause of the side effects. Unfortunately this is more like an accelerated aging experience rather than a decelerated one. Trust me, feeling like you aged several years in a span of months is not a good experience. Super excited and hopeful for this research to progress, it's super important! Greg Pace Greg Pace 1 year ago Took two tests! DNAge said I was 65 and Elysium's Index said I was 49. It's hard to come by youtube video that's this complete. Bakhtiyar Neyman Bakhtiyar Neyman 1 year ago Words cannot express how excited I am about this! I notice that this video doesn't mention NAD boosters, hope you cover this topic in the interview though! FoundMyFitness Sleep Smart Smash Stress Sleep Smart Smash Stress 1 year ago The question whether turning back or slowing the epigenetic age is congruous to the biological age must be answered in the affirmative for the entire concept of Hovarth clock to carry any practical significance otherwise it is an exercise in futility or a purely academic curiosity. Let us study the relationships between epigenetic senescence to telomere attrition rate, neurogenesis rates and inflammaging intensity to uncover some more secrets of aging and age-retardation or reversal. Let us be content with seriously halting the speed of aging and inflammaging which tragically is picking up pace with a vengeance around the globe. Even that would be a highly desirable outcome. Noteworthy also is the fact of 60 years or 3 generation lags in the epigenetic signals for manifestation in full which is reminiscent of a similar 4-6 decade lag in the manifestation of impact of GHG elevation. A note in passing though. I wish there was no background music added to this introduction video or any other similar videos. I struggled to listen to what you were saying with the interfering music on. I suffer from Misophonia (literally hatred of noise) and this condition is more common than many suspect and noise/sound make us immensely uncomfortable. Thank you either way. MOONOOM MOONOOM 1 year ago Awesome video, Rhonda! Have you heard about Cipro toxicity? Do you know what to do about it? Sleep Smart Smash Stress Sleep Smart Smash Stress 1 year ago What are the proposed units that Dr. Steve Horvath, would advance as we measure biological aging? For uniformity and replicability of reserach among various groups there would be a need to develop a universally accepted unit for the biological or DNA/epigenomic age. Yung Kashta Yung Kashta 1 year ago Question. When you guys use inconclusive studies as a a marker in progress in science , do you also factor in the people of different blood types might have different needs biologically? Or do these studies just pick random people and don't compare things like blood type, heritage, and environmental influences? Keep Moving Keep Moving 1 year ago Well done! Sleep Smart Smash Stress Sleep Smart Smash Stress 1 year ago With due respect to the learned Dr. Patrick, I would take issue with the remark - "Everyone's chronological age increases at the same speed" as speed measures distance travelled by a moving objec over a unit of time. Chronological age is simply statement of time lapse since birth (Koreans begin to count from the time of concption of the fetus btw.) so calling chronological aging speed is a misnomer. The concept of stated age since birth needs to be stated better.
