NMN, NR, Resveratrol, Metformin & Other Longevity Molecules | Lifespan with Dr. David Sinclair #4
302,782 viewsJan 26, 2022
Dr. David Sinclair and co-host Matthew LaPlante zero in on drugs and supplements that have been reported to combat aspects of aging. They share the latest experimental and clinical data for NAD boosters (these being NR, NMN, NAD IV drips and shots), resveratrol, fisetin, quercetin, rapamycin, spermidine, metformin, and berberine. Given the abundance of data available, a special focus is placed on the NAD precursors nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide mononucleotide. Known mechanisms, limitations, and/or side effects associated with these molecules are additionally highlighted.
Correction and clarification: At time point 1:07:37, Dr. Sinclair says he takes 1 gram of Spermidine, but the active ingredient in the capsules is 1-2 milligrams. We apologize for the confusion.

The co host is great. He has a very effective way to be both a “layman” as he asks questions while at the same time, generally savvy on the topics. Also, I congratulate you both on not taking yourselves too seriously. We already get enough of that with certain scientists.

Great discussion! Thank you. I'd like to know if there is a correlation between stressed vegetables having greater health benefits VS a stressed animal. I can imagine there is a whole different set of rules for an animal that has been penned up and fed a terrible diet, VS a plant being harassed by bugs, weather, fungi, virus, etc... Keep up the great work!

Hi! Thanks for all your work - When you were on Huberman's podcast, you briefly mentioned that taking Resveratrol on alternating days produced better results in mice based on a specific study, and that the beneficial effects could even be mitigated by daily intake. But I've also heard you talk about it being in your daily stack, as you've mentioned here. Could you elaborate/clarify whether you think a daily or alternating intake could produce a significant difference in potential effectiveness of Resveratrol ?

Thank you for another great episode. I'm really a fan of these. I have a question about NAD boosters - do you think that supplementing with something like NMN could potentially suppress the bodies natural production of NAD in the long or short term?

Hi David! I’ve been implementing what you suggest (I haven’t yet implemented supplements yet) and I feel a lot better! One of the things I’ve done that’s helped a lot is actually something you haven’t mentioned in the podcast yet. I took a food sensitivity test and cut out the foods that tested positive for sensitivities. Milk was apparently causing me muscle and joint inflammation as well as stomach problems.

Thanks for all the info! I would be very interested in the question from which age it makes sense to use things like NMN or NR. With it comes the question to determine the levels of NAD currently available in the body. Is there any quick and easy way to determine in order to avoid spending money on supplementing in case the levels are good? Or is there a general benefit for everyone to take it, like e.g. for vit D3 which is generally low in the population of countries that dont see too much sunlight?

First of all thank you for this very informative podcast. It would be so great as a follow up to this if you could include information on: Methylation and TMG with MNM; Cycling molecules like Resveratrol, Fisetin, Quercetin. Also I am very interested in Cycling Berberine, for it to be more effective but also because I have read and stand to be corrected, but from what I have read it is antimicrobial and you can risk wiping out your gut microbiome, especially if you are taking a gram a day! And then lasty are you still taking aspirin daily, If so at what time of the day are you taking it, is it after food to protect your stomach, and is t daily too are do you also cycle it? Oh one more thing a lot of molecules are hormonic stressors can you do to much and risk actually becoming too stressed. like if you took molecules that mimic fasting, and you fast and you exercise and you have a good amount of normal daily stress that you try to keep under wraps, do you risk a kind of burnout? Thanks again!

Thanks for this informative video! Couple questions. If resveratrol works better when ingested with fats, would it be as effective to take with fish oil capsules as with the suggested yogurt or olive oil? Also, would taking Athletic Greens in the morning significantly break the fast if trying to skip breakfast? Thanks again!

Important to emphasize ‘the threshold level’ as David discussed in his interview with Rhonda Patrick PhD , the ‘natural clearing process ‘ of the body that will eliminate NMN supplements , Resveratrol from the body - and David’s idea of ‘pulsing ‘ these supplements every other day , then fasting and exercising

Thank you for this podcast, very interesting! Sorry, but for non-scientists could you please explain whether taking NADH provides an NAD boost as well (the one I am referring to has Niacin NE (750mg) & NADH (6mg))? I read that NAD/NADH ratio is important and higher NADH would seem to speed up ageing... That doesn't mean that the NADH I am referring to (that is mainly Niacin NE) is not so good for ageing, does it? Sorry if this is a silly question!

Thanks for the very informative podcast and also talking about studies which show harmful effects of some of the supplements.
For folks outside US, where we don't have inside tracker, can you pls suggest periodic blood tests we can do to ensure that the supplements aren't having a harmful effect on our bodies (including nmn potentially expediting cancer cell growth) ? It will be great information and people elsewhere can keep a tab on their health with these supplements.
