In order to cope with the problematic global decline of microbes and possibly achieve their permanent conservation in the future, Dominguez-Bello and Blaser have launched a new international project: The 'Microbiota Vault'-Initiative aims at the preservation of microbial diversity by creating a technical facility that will enable the permanent storage and conservation of as many microorganisms as possible - that could potentially be important for human health.
