Doesn't that count for something. Well, I guess not. My guys never got a fair shake their entire careers. Always had to prove themselves to the world, especially to quite stupid DJ's in the United States. Frankly, in my opinion, there's no need to prove themselves to a living soul. Their sales of over 220 million records worldwide speaks for itself, not to mention their perfect three part harmonies. Greatest group ever and Robin undoubtedly the best singer ever to have walked this earth with his beautiful ethereal voice. To include The Beatles, you have to include Ringo and George, and they simply aren't the singing talents of John and Paul or any of the others on this list. This type of list is very subjective, and though opera is ignored (Bocelli, Pavarotti, who can really bring it), my No. 1 is Elvis. Any song, any genre, he's going to do a great job with it. Elvis has a very wide strike zone. As great as Michael Jackson is as a singer, it seems his wheelhouse is very small; does he ever go into a baritone? I will give him credit; he, Elvis, Ray Charles, and Aretha are the members on this list who, when you hear them sing, you immediately know it's them. And there's something to be said for that; otherwise, you're just hearing a lounge singer. Dolly Parton is very distinct in that way, for example. Sinatra, to a point, may be immediately identifiable but Sinatra has no business on the list of the 10 best singers. He may be a technically great singer -- hit the notes perfectly and whatnot -- but his sound simply does not compare with someone like Roy Orbison or Linda Ronstadt and, to me, Sinatra basically talks his way through songs. The clip is called 'Top 10 Singers of all Time', the Beatles were not a singer they were a group of 4. NB; Presley co-wrote over 55 songs in his career. He produced most of the music between 1956 to 1960 and 1973 to 1977, he was very influential in laying the foundations for social changes, Lennon said; 'before Elvis, there was nothing', the Beatles were of course a Group, who had the greatest producer and user of new technology, namely George Martin. Eg Ringo's drums, Pauls's base or John's vocals could be heard better than any other music at the time, thus better hooks. The Beatles as a live act ( later editing on-screen as a live act, is common such as 'Get Back 'where overdubbing was done ) was not very good and once famous, hardly sang live - they were a classic studio band, where anyone could sound great. Take the world's population in the 1950s, it was harder to have an impact globally, TV was not worldwide unless you created social change that encouraged new clothes, fashions, foods, hairstyles, behaviour and technology like TV. Presley was far more important in the development of contemporary society globally, as he was successful as the single artist who changed society, whether he wanted to or not. As for donations for charity Presley is again hard to beat, as he gave the majority of his income away, without great fanfare. Everybody after Presley was a copy, even the Fab 4, promoted as 4 Elvis'. Presley did not set out to be so influential- the timing of the post-war era helped. They all copied other people's Bass lines 'notes' and all copied words which were bought by record companies who gave the lyrics and tunes to almost all of the artists in their stable under contract. Though Lennon and McCarthy wrote lots of words as a group the Beatles took heavily from Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Skiffle and folk tunes for baselines.( Check out the baselines! ) Jackson was a great live artist but he was similar to the Beatles as he had the very best people to support him, in dance editing, recording and particularly TV promotion. The world's population by the 1980s was double that of the 1950's. Steve Perry is a once in a generation voice. The only person that came close was John Farnham...for me one of the best ever. Both Farnham and Perry had the nickname.."The Voice"...for good reason. I'm not familiar enough with all of this artist, but here is my opinion about all: First, if you hear at least the I want you album of Marvin Gaye, the technique, the falsetto, the smooth, soulfoul and intense voice, and the creative vocal backgrounds of Mr. Gaye, is something out of his world. I have heard a lot of albums and songs from all of the different artists you mentioned, and nobody, and i mean NOBODY, could match Marvin vocal talent and performance. Marvin as a voice had it all, even some simple lyrics could turned it into a marsterpiece with his voice. I just mentioned one album, but there's a lot of his material is really great, and he had a masterpiece cover of "yesterday", that even Macca have said is his favorite cover of the song. IMO, he is the best singer ever, and objectively, i think he deserves a top 5 spot in everyone's personal list. A lot of artist are overrated vocally, but Marvin really is one of the best voices ever, he sang like an angel. And second, and the biggest snub at the list: which artist influenced or inspired the singing (and artistry) of MJ, Prince, Wonder, the Beatles, Dylan, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Mercury, Bowie, Redding, James Brown, Mars and other legends? The answer is Little Richard. Truly the king of rock, that man clearly defined what a rock and roll voice should sound like, his hipervocal is imitated, but nobody could match that scream. Back is the day, if a person couldnt sing a song of Richard, he couldnt be the vocalist of a teenage rock and roll band. Bowie said that the first time he heard to a Richard song, he thought that was God singing. Even Hendrix said that he wanted to do with his guitar what Little Richard do with his voice.
