My only side affects are dropping blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and feeling jittery like i just drank 10 cups of coffee. There does seem to be a boost of energy. I'm only taking 500mg once a day. I actually took it randomly once a week for a few weeks and noticed nothing... it was like i took nothing until i to it twice in a day. I have to say that i didn't feel great that day but it was the jittery feeling with some vertigo with the hypoglycemia. I was able to combat it but eating a piece of fruit. Then the doctor moved me to the long acting version. Same side effects. I stopped all together and started berberine a year later. I got the exact same side effects!!! Gi issues, headache and foggy brain where I didn’t know where I’d park the car. Also dry mouth but not as bad as with metformin. So is metformin made from berberine? Or do you know where metformin comes from? My mom told me at 2 am, her heart was racing and I went to the bathroom and it hit me, I couldn't stand up straight, soon I fell to the ground. I called emergency for my mom, I ran down stairs and drank water that seemed to fix my issue of dizziness. In the ER , they told my mom never to take this again, it has many side effects, I didn't see anything about this searching the internet other than someone on Amazon wrote, if your not a diabetic, you shouldn't take it, it can cause problems. I am afraid of trying it again. Amazon called me to talk to me about my issue and apologized for my experience. And if you're an athlete, it will absolutely shut down mTor and mute one's response to weight training, thereby decreasing muscular growth. Down to 205. I do apple cider vinegar each morning or before my first meal and then at night before bedtime. I take a multi vitamin, D3, K2, magnesium turtle, and omega 3 cod liver oil. Now I'm at a loss on what's going on. I would hate to know what situation I would be in if was was just doing nothing and just doing the normal thing like most people. What to do now? Of course it'll be more effective "at the same dose," since it has 5x the bioavailability of regular berberine. It has given me no side effects other than lowering my BP so much my medicine has been cut in half TWICE now. If it goes lower I will be removed from my lisinopril. I also lost weight without trying (only 7 pounds) and my LDL dropped in addition to my blood sugar. The berberine I take contains ceylon cinnamon in addition to the berberine. I take 1 berberine (1000mg) with each meal, so I am taking it with food and 3x a day. If someone is brave enough to chew it directly, they get a higher concentration. It’s a very sad situation. There are few that are willing to practice outside their licensing and legal parameters. This is why patients meet with such strong resistance from a medical doctor. I was also diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol and my endocrinologist put me on metformin and sitagliptin for the diabetes, olmesartan/amlodipine/hydrochlorotiazide 40/10/25 mg for the blood pressure and Lipocomb 10/10 for the cholesterol. To begin with I suffered from diarrhea with the metformin but by taking the metformin and sitagliptin together that seemed to cure the problem (either that or my body simply got used to it). However, I am concerned about the long-term effect on my kidneys, liver and pancreas having taken metformin for 15 years. Could Berberine be a safer alternative to all the medication I am taking?
