At my last visit to my doctor's visit she told me she had never seen cholesterol levels as low as mine in any patient my age (66yrs). IF is not just about losing weight. It is a healthy lifestyle. 852 Reply 18 replies @uptheorg 7 months ago This TED talk got me going on intermittent fasting 3 years ago and I have been able to maintain my weight ever since which is a miracle considering my history for the fifty years of my life since about age 12. It was always the yo-yo experience with my weight. I was actually on Weight Watchers on my Bar Mitzvah day! By doing the 16/8, I have been able to stay within 1 pound of my goal weight every day with no exceptions for 3 years, since age 62. I really cannot believe it. 129 Reply 2 replies @TroPy1n @TroPy1n 2 months ago Just love how when you start fasting, the brain acts like a 5-year old missing it's insta high of sugar rush, but if you don't give in, the brain basicly goes "yeah, you're right, we don't need it, we do have enough in reserve" 6 Reply @aishwaryasarath5712 @aishwaryasarath5712 10 months ago I started fasting on 3 Jan this year with walking 30 minutes and minimal exercise, I lost 1.5 kg in a week.. it's motivating me to continue with this. I hope I can reach my target with help of IF 😍 267 Reply 4 replies @tchrof6th @tchrof6th 1 year ago I do this and I have lost 30 lbs! 4 Reply @jonhay75 @jonhay75 3 years ago The human body actually needs way less food than we think it does... 3.2K Reply 46 replies @elvis99435 @elvis99435 1 year ago Started this about 3 months ago and lost 30lbs. Feeding time is 1 - 9pm and I'm never hungry. That weight loss came with no exercise (though I'm not advocating against it. I'm just lazy). 24 Reply @dianneoliveira3961 @dianneoliveira3961 10 months ago Been living like this for a year it’s been unbelievable I couldn’t ever live eating another way. Everything she is saying is 💯 % true. 134 Reply @EDoggM @EDoggM 1 year ago I kept seeing videos on TikTok about Intermittent Fasting and here I am researching in 2022 2 Reply @NinetooNine @NinetooNine 1 year ago I fast for 20 hours a day and eat for 4. Except for the hunger I find that I generally feel way better. The biggest benefit I have noticed though is the lack of laziness. I find myself completing projects I normally put off and actively looking for things to do in my downtime. It also helps control my blood sugar so for a prediabetic this is extremely helpful. 538 Reply 23 replies @tmscruby @tmscruby 1 year ago I am 64 years old, male. I have been fasting 20 hours per day for a little over 2 years, with several 44 hour fasts per month. I have lost 65 pounds, stopped blood pressure meds, stopped talking about cholesterol meds due to improved test results. My weight is stable. My feet don’t hurt anymore. I am able to run for exercise again. I have much less inflammation and pain. I am forever in debt to my doctor who has guided me onto this path. It is definitely a lifestyle change for me. Thank you for sharing this. 188 Reply 1 reply @ilshim3473 @ilshim3473 3 years ago My intermittent fasting consists of eating between 12pm and 4pm and fasting the rest of time. I have been doing this for over eight months and I feel as good as I can be at my age (I will be 77 in a few days!) I am extremely poor, so I can't afford the best quality salmon, and most of my vegetables, avocados, and nuts are not organic, but I eat as healthy as my budget allows. Sometimes what you don't eat is just as important as what you eat. Avoid processed and sugary foods, avoid restaurants (I can't afford them anyway!), make everything from scratch, chew your food well, etc. Hope it helps! 10K Reply 230 replies @mothball5425 @mothball5425 1 year ago Eating breakfast when not hungry, because you think you ought to, sets you up for eating when not hungry all the time. 2 Reply @cattleprods911 @cattleprods911 7 months ago I’m a dude, and learned a lot. Us dudes can benefit from this sage advice! I’ve gone from 16:8 to OMAD, and feel great! 5 Reply @patricialancaster4320 @patricialancaster4320 1 year ago l am 67 and love intermittent fasting. My stomach is flat and I feel younger. 2 Reply @MrScothall @MrScothall 10 months ago I am a 72 year old male who began intermittent fasting to lose weight. Over two years after reaching my weight goal (and maintaining it), I continue to IF because it just feels healthier to me. I like the fact my organs get nice long daily break. I now believe that if you eat proper food and exercise about a half an hour daily, you will not be overweight and you will not get hungry. Your body adapts well and rewards you when you are doing all the right things. 36 Reply @drewburton279 @drewburton279 6 months ago (edited) This is Drew’s mom. I started on the 16:8 journey 4 months ago. I’ve finally lost the weight I was trying to lose by adjusting my diet anf exercise for… years. I still work out, as the benefits of working out are too numerous to mention and go Waay beyond weight management…. But thank you! 8 Reply @adrian3482 @adrian3482 2 years ago WHAT IF I TOLD YOU that breakfast is the first meal of the day regardless of what time you eat it? 6.3K Reply 163 replies @peterwilson69 @peterwilson69 1 year ago After only 2 weeks I'm feeling much better mentally. I had depression (still do to some extent), because I lost my 3yo daughter. That was tough and I didn't feel like living. I attribute my better mental health to a few things: Intermittant fasting, drastically reducing my sugar intake and just plain old fashioned will-power. It feels very empowering to use my will in a willful way (if you know what I mean). I work at a Cafe doing food preparation, so I physically touch tasty food all day, but I don't even make myself a sandwhich at lunch. I skip breakfast and lunch, then have whatever I want for dinner. I'm feeling much better mentally. In the last 2 weeks I've lost 8kg (17 pounds). I still have a few snacks like chips and chocolate after dinner too... although I'm trying to cut them out too. I drink water if ever I feel hungry - which is not very often. My body "just knows" my will-power is in charge. If I think of cheating, I usually do... it's very much a mental game with myself, but I'm enjoying it. Good luck everyone! 257 Reply 20 replies @ronniedean7521 @ronniedean7521 1 year ago i tried intermittent fasting mostly because i want to lose weight, i just want to share my experience with it, its really actually hard to sustain plus i do experience very excruciating headache thats why i stopped it and started agoge diet. i did lose weight without all those bad things and i have never been happier 92 Reply 3 replies @bonnieanderson8476 @bonnieanderson8476 4 months ago I am in menopause and IF completely changed my life for the better. I can truly say that this was the most effective method for me. In over 10+ years I have tried so many methods and spent thousands of dollars on trying to lose weight. With IF, I am not as hungry and my energy level was so high. IF has truly changed my life. 48 Reply 2 replies @ebubayram @ebubayram 3 years ago What if I told you that maybe every TED TALK starts with "What if I told you"? 3K Reply 47 replies @sufyanhamidabdulKhader @sufyanhamidabdulKhader 10 months ago Fasting from sunrise to sunset on Mondays and Thursdays is one of the best things you can do for your over all health, and strength of body, mind, and soul 5 Reply @Moon-ll2pv @Moon-ll2pv 1 year ago Girls, hear me out! I'm 28 and I've been fasting for months. I started with the 16/8, then went for the 18/6, with the 20/4 after 2 months and then with the 23/1. I used to feel great, like I've never felt before BUT I had to STOP intermittent fasting because my cycle completely stopped. I learnt that women should be fasting differently to men. We have a more complicated hormone system. Hair might start falling and fertility issues might come up! PLEASE, pay attention. It is good to fast BUT NOT EVERYDAY, especially during ovulation and pre-mestrual week. 531 Reply 60 replies @kittyrest @kittyrest 1 year ago Over 100lbs down doing intermittent ♡ 3 Reply @professorg000 @professorg000 1 year ago This is it. 77 eating fruits, veggies, whole grain, nuts and protein...do 40 hour autophagy once a week....NO BREAKFAST is key to success. I stupidly listen to trainers, friends, colleagues and started eating breakfast every day. I gained 25 pounds in 2 years. I didn't put it together until one day it just hit me that I was automatically reaching for cereal, oatmeal, eggs or whatever in the morning when I was even hungry. Yet actually had become a habit. I was thin most of my life but gained weight in my 40's. Of course I did! My metabolism was slowing down because I was nearing menopause. ("Clark"is a family nickname, I'm a chick, lol) What I should have been doing was exercising more, or exercising the same amount but do some in the morning and summit night to keep my metabolism going. It took me forever to figure out what I've done wrong and make some changes. I mean literally by then I was 50 and really putting on weight in places I never had before period it took a while but I did it. But I would like to tell everybody that if you are not a breakfast person, or never work, don't listen to anybody else! if you're not hungry don't eat! 40 Reply @mu9284 @mu9284 8 months ago IF is so powerful its just mind bongling... seriously.... 1 Reply @denebvegaaltair1146 @denebvegaaltair1146 4 months ago (edited) done this for a 5 days and my debilitating chronic fatigue went away. It is has made an amazing impact in my daily life. 15 Reply @Musicality77 @Musicality77 1 year ago With 17:7 IF for the last 6 months, my hemoglobin a1c went from 5.9 to 5.2, my fatty liver disease was reversed (liver enzymes were severely elevated but they are well within range now!), and lost about 10% of my weight. I am a woman in mid-30s with PCOS. My weight loss has plateaued so I want to incorporate some changes now by adding one to two days of 24 hour fasting each week, eating healthier lunch, walking more, and doing strength training. IF is not a restrictive diet so it’s more sustainable. Most importantly, the blood test numbers really tell me that I’m doing the right thing for my body. 127 Reply 7 replies @thetruthwillsetyoufree1066 @thetruthwillsetyoufree1066 4 years ago Stop eating at 8pm and skip breakfast, You are welcome. 4.8K Reply 145 replies @naveenkjose8457 @naveenkjose8457 10 months ago I have been following intermittent fasting for 3 months. I have never done this before. I have also cut out carbohydrates. I am a healthy, slim 60 year old. Except I have had severe eyesight problems for more than 30 years. Incredibly since doing the 16 hour fast every day my vision is improving. I am speechless! I had advanced glaucoma - eyedrops for many years, eye surgery as well. I was slowly losing my peripheral vision. I tried loads of different supplements - nothing worked. My BMI is low - about 21, so I really don't want to lose weight. But the fasting is without doubt better than anything else! Thank you - and I totally agree with you about breakfast! 38 Reply 2 replies @andrewschuschu3499 @andrewschuschu3499 10 months ago As a teacher I stumbled upon this process naturally- I was on the go in the morning, didn’t want to feel “weighed down” by food, ate lunch with my students, ate dinner with my family at home- a natural 6 hours on, 18 hours off. It only makes sense- the biological processes that turn food into fuel takes time and enzymes to work, and then need time to recover. You don’t run your car engine in the driveway overnight, or two hours before you need to leave. Doing nothing and resting the system is so important. 2 Reply @romaneros4583 @romaneros4583 1 year ago This works. Went from 225 to 185. 1 Reply @corinnevickey4634 @corinnevickey4634 1 year ago Hi. While cooking for my youngest child who is vegan and doing intermittent fasting, I adopted his schedule. He is 6' and maintains 195 # with workouts on top of a 10 hour work day. I lost 25 lbs, effortlessly, no longer have the annual visit to my cardiologist who was amazed at my health changes (I refused statins) and better BP readings, etc. When I shared what I was doing, he, the cardiologist said, 'oh, I can't do that'. Even with a career and a family, I think it is still doable, maybe more like 14 / 10. I am late 70s and have managed chronic health issues with diet, but allowing the body to function optimally and heal itself as we go with intermittent fasting, is a much better alternative !!! What I can say is that my clothes fit much better, and I am now able to wear a pair of pants and a skirt that I have had for a couple of years that were too small to get on...now they fit. I plan on staying with this lifestyle for the long-term because the side effects are incredible. I am 61 and my weight has now gone from 220 to 165 lbs. My waist size went from 36 " to 32. So I say that it is true that as an older person you can get there waist size down to your teenage years. Just takes a little sacrificeing. My diet mostly consists of Carnivore. Eat lots of organ meats, better than muscle meats. Very little fruit, or better yet, none at all. I’m a skeptic by nature so I did not believe this could work. Being in menopause in my 50’s I had given up on the idea that I could loose weight easily since I’m not disciplined enough to do diets that require measuring calories or eliminating my favorite foods. I’m 5 ft. I was 135 lbs. 5/21 but today in May of 2022 I’m 105 lb. I still can’t believe I was able to loose 30 lbs with minimal effort. The biggest changes besides fasting from 8 pm to 12 pm the following day was to switch my coffee with sugar to Purecane zero sugar substitute and walk 2 x a week. Average weight loss was 2-3 lbs a month. I sill eat my favorite pasta and occasional dessert as long as it’s in my allowable window of eating. Couldn’t recommend intermittent fasting enough. Celery, parsley, pineapple and ginger powder smoothie. And try to eat my las meal before 3pm. I do notice that when I sleep at least 7 hours I don’t crave food the next day. I would only sleep 4 hour before. But I know I need to work on my sleeping hour. 1 Reply @AndrewEvenstar @AndrewEvenstar 1 year ago (edited) I've been a strong athlete all my life. but now I can see I'm struggling at my diet and can't get to my weight goal. Reply @yufoh7753 @yufoh7753 7 months ago If anyone is wanting to do intermittent fasting but finding it difficult, and struggling with the hunger. It does take time for your body to adapt to what it's been used to. Just gradually increase the time between fasting over the weeks and months and eventually you don't feel hungry at all and it feels normal not to eat for 18 hours or more without any hunger at all. I've been doing it for over a year and was doing week days only at first. Now I just eat one meal a day, dinner and have a small snack, maybe 3 or 4 hours later and that's me until dinner the next day. I feel great and at this stage it is just normal every day stuff for me. It feels odd seeing other people seemingly always eating, or snacking through the day, when they've eaten just a couple of hours before. 7 Reply 1 reply @Exegesis66 @Exegesis66 2 months ago Intermittent fasting is great for us office workers! A standing desk helps too. BTW, changing your feed/fast window can greatly help with cravings and self-control as well, try to have at least one day a week as a 24 hour fast. I noticed after the last few years the 16/8 window keeps me from gaining weight, but I need to vary the window because my body has gotten used to it. Ofc, adding weighted exercise is the key for this. IMO. 2 Reply @paulinelinares4991 @paulinelinares4991 1 month ago Love your work, thanks! Also, detoxing from sugar, bad oils, high sodium, preservatives and white flour helps homeostasis. It's all about balance. I usually lose about 8 to 10 pounds doing this for a few weeks to a month. I recently did it in response to an A1C of 5.7%. I did just 3 weeks of intermittent fasting and a total sugar and carbs fast and redid my blood test and my A1C was 5.3%. Two days ago I did a water only fast for 19 hours. Nothing but water. Instead of diving into a 'diet' and pressuring myself to exercise, meal plan, etc., out the gate, I started by cutting alcohol. Lost 10 lbs without trying and feeling great! Now I'm ready for the next level and will start this tomorrow (I've already enjoyed my early morning coffee with cream🙄). From April to September 2020, while others were gaining the COVID 10, 15, 20, etc., I lost 45 lbs by not drinking and subscribing to Jack LaLanne's quote "If man made it, don't eat it" (that tells you my age! LOL!). In October, of 2020 I began drinking again. I gained every ounce back plus 10!!! For some reason, I haven't been able to get back on track. I'm thinking this will be a great start!🤞 Thank you again! PS: I ordered the NutriSense she mentions in her book (a great read btw!). I gave up alcohol because of the effects it has on the body. I'm sure that various foods will be equally easy to give up once I see which ones are spiking my glucose. Let's see where this all goes! 9 Reply 1 reply @davelaneve2446 @davelaneve2446 11 months ago (edited) I'm a biologist, and started studying the metabolic functions of nutrition in my weight loss journey. I went from my normal weight of about 200 lbs up to 360 lbs over many years. I would eat 3 large meals, with snacks in between, at night, and often throughout the night when I was waking up restless. I made a commitment to get back to my normal weight. After much research I started a system where I fast daily from 6pm to 8am, water only. I get up at 6am, do cardio and strength exercises until 8am. Have my first meal, just a handful sized portion. Throughout the day until 6pm I eat a total of 6 handful sized portions every 2 hours from 8am until 6pm, 14:10. Under 1000 calories per day. I eat mostly free range beef and bison, fish, free range chicken and turkey from local sources, and vegetables from our large co-op garden. One weekend per month is a cheat weekend where I might eat larger meals, have pizza and beer. I follow that weekend with a 5 day water fast. Then back to my normal routine. I went from 360 lbs back to my normal weight of 200 lbs in just under 6 months. 124 Reply 11 replies @yaboysmoov @yaboysmoov 10 months ago NEW SUB 1 Reply @MsSilver41 @MsSilver41 5 months ago Ken Berry has videos on PCOS that may give more insight Reply @oyziee8654 @oyziee8654 1 year ago This whole time I thought I was just poor. Also my gut feels great, I feel alert when I am working and my sleep is regularised. This is a way of life more than a diet. And it's the best way is what I can say from experience. IF really works. For decades I struggled with my weight and tried different types of diets inc. WW, keto, Atkinson, etc. Nothing worked. In January 2020, I weighed 208lbs when I started IF. Today. I weigh 147lbs which has been my stable weight for the last 18 months. I started with 14 hours IF then steadily increased it to 20 hours over time. IF is excellent for weight loss and management. I always do IF each week, mainly 16:8 which works for me. It’s a part of my lifestyle now. It’s no longer about diets. I make sure I exercise each week. If I put in a few pounds because of events, holidays etc I do 20:4 for about 4-5 days and eat only 1600 cals but you adjust it according to what works for you. This helps me get back on target. So a week ago i also started a 16/8 intermittent fast, i have type 2 diabetes and weigh 116KG (~230-250 pounds). I eat between 2PM and 10PM (coincidentally just like my mother did), I don't exercise more and i haven't changed my diet either, but not eating or snacking between 10PM and 2PM has reduced my snacking by a lot. I go to bed at around 3AM and get up at 11AM so i rarely had breakfast anyway, so this intermittent fasting is very easy for me to do and stick to so i should be able to make it a permanent lifestyle change (unlike anything else i've tried) 1 Reply @gloriavillegas21 @gloriavillegas21 9 months ago She said you have to wait 6-8 weeks to see results.
