Note: If you're new to fasting, take it slow. I'm not your doctor, so I can't guess what's appropriate for you, but I wouldn't start out with a 7 day fast if you've never fasted before.

I fasted for 41 days, not out of choice. Adventure traveler got stuck in the desert for 41 days. Last three days no water. My hunger stopped after 12 days, 22nd day I’d have killed for food. Day 32-33 hunger returned. Best part was going to the bathroom stopped for a month. Lost 55lbs. While it was a positive experience health wise but I wouldn’t recommend it🙏🏻

I have PCOS and I did a fast a few years ago and by my 5th day fasting, I was down 12lbs and had regulated my menstrual cycles. I went from only having one maybe 3 times a year to every month like I'm supposed to. It definitely works. I'm starting again tomorrow. Pray for me because I need this. I feel like a prisoner in my own body.

I did it for 15 days and I lost 20kg, the only thing you must remember is to always drink water and avoid eating anything. It's very hard in the first 3 days but in day 4th to 15th you just feel like you're floating and have very high energy in your body, also your skin becomes much more clearer, and your mind becomes more active and receptive.

Your body definitely can survive for 40 days and a bit more without food. I did that in 2015. My body went through weakness but after 10 days I was perfectly fine. There was no need for number 2. Light-headedness went when I drank some water. I also did a lot of praying in that time. That strengthened me a lot. At the end of the period my mind was extremely alert. I also was at a state of calmness that I had never experienced before.

I'm into fasting medicine since 2014. I'm fasting NOW, 60 hrs in while writing and going to an open ending prolonged fasting.
I'm an ex obese person. Now i'm bodybuilding lean.
SALT is VERY important for fasting longer than 3-5 days, with a pinch of potassium (but stay low 'cause potassium imbalance could give you death by heart failure).
I lost over 50 kg since 2014, NO LOOSE SKIN at all.
Fasting + bodybuilding = cosmetic surgeon of the Devil.
While fasting for weight loss you'll discover that fasting can cure a LOT of things: autoimmune pathologies, age related cosmetic defects, old scars, skin defects. And it starves cancer too, if you have it.
Surplus IS the main pathology's cause in modern world. Abstinence IS the cure.
Keep fasting, my friends!

I have never felt better in my life than when I did a 7 day fast. I still rode my bike to work (energy plunged for a few minutes after the ride, it was around 10 miles each way), but aside from that my overall energy levels were through the roof. I felt amazing, my blood pressure went from 165/120 (this was why I fasted) to 115/80 and stayed there for months later. My IBS got completely cured for 3 months due to gut bacteria reset. My body likes to fast, I tend to stop being hungry after around 18 hours, so I didn't have to push hard through the initial stage. My mood was amazing as well.

I did five years in the Georgia State Prison in Reidsville in the '70's. Back then, if you had disciplinary issues, you would be given segregation (or "hole" ) time.
In the hole, you were given 3 slices of bread and a cup of water per meal. That was for either 14 or 28 days, depending on your infraction.
I remember we lost a lot of weight. After about 3 or 4 days, those bread slices tasted like steak. I remember being able to grab my ribs...

36 hours in fasting here! Energy is low. Not much hunger now, but since all my glucose is gone and I’m running on ketones if I do any physical activities I can definitely feel the fatigue. I think best results came right around 24 hours. I’m still going and will keep updating!💪🏻🤙🏻

I do a multi-day fast every few months, and I regularly use intermittent with an 18 to 20 hour window. I am also a competitive powerlifter, and I can assure you, I am much stronger mid-fast than I am normally. I made a video demonstrating max lifts on hour 32 of a 48 hour fast. I did not lose any muscle mass at any point, and in fact, I gained strength. It takes a little bit of planning, but it is well worth the effort.

By far the hardest part of fasting is the boredom. If you've never done a multiday fast, you have no idea the enormous amount of your daily time is spent thinking about, preparing, or eating food. Depending on your lifestyle, it can be really hard to fill all that extra free time. If you want a fast to be easy, start it when you are very busy.

In 2008 I did a 46 day fast. I lost all sorts of weight and had so much energy. I only started eating again because everyone started calling me anorexic. But now I have a difficult time going 16 hrs without food due to the anxiety I have. I’m not sure why going without food now makes me anxious. But I went from 160 lbs to 107 lbs over the course of the fast. And it took me injuring my knee in 2013 to gain the weight back. Now I’m back at 160 lbs and am thinking about doing like a 14 day fast. I just gotta get past the anxiety from not eating

This video has changed my life for the better.
A few months after first watching this video, I fasted Mondays - Thursdays for 22 times spread over a period of 10 months (88 days total) and lost about 40 lbs. I went from a BMI of 29.0 to 23.6. The rest of the time was able to take a break from it and eat and drink more or less normally (as in, sometimes more, sometimes less). This was, is, and will be a long-term sustainable idea. While a big fraction of a year seemed long at first, I realized it was short compared to the 18 years straight I was unhappy about my health and appearance and felt that my life was somewhat on hold. For years I would see myself in the mirror wishing the weight would just go away but it wouldn't just happen on its own. (I did do occasional dieting here and there during that time, to varying success.)
This video was like discovering a magic trick, as though I've learned I can mysteriously breathe underwater but I'd never tried. Or that my car could actually run without gasoline, but I'd never tried it. Before I'd thought that if I went an entire day without eating I was possibly just explode, or pass out and be unable to move, or something. I often had the frustration of "Well, I've got to eat something to keep my energy level high enough," always trying to compromise or balance and felt never losing weight effectively while still frequently having heartburn.
After a certain point (about a half a day) my hunger level simply peaked and would not grow any larger, and this is a plan that is mentally easier than any calculated dieting plan and one I can be confident is working while I'm fasting. Drinking occasional salt water was a lifesaver, and I relied on coffee, tea with lemon juice, seltzer water (sometimes with sweeteners added), and a few tablespoons of tart cherry juice at night. If nothing else, this psychologically freed me from a starvation phobia. The feeling of "hangry" was actually rooted from unfounded fear; I found it was something that could be simply overcome with a state of mind.
This is something basically easy once I truly set my mind to it and it actually worked, and with a tally sheet I marked my progress with each week completed. That being said, I did have diminishing returns after about the 15th week of it, especially since at that point I was only alternating weeks instead of often going two in a row. In the future, I think it will work better if I just go one or two days at a time every week, and also eat healthy during the days that I do eat. I'll have to monitor my weight, at least maintain it, or hopefully become leaner.
It is simple, strict, and sustainable.

I just fasted for 5 days to counter the holiday eating. On my 3rd to 5th day. My mind and body did not know what is food. It felt like it forgot what it is. I had to actively force my self to eat to break the fast. I could have gone on a few more days. My fat melted, eye sight sharp, more calm, also eye blood shot gone.

I've gone 14 days fasting, 0 calories. And that was after two consecutive week long fasts with a couple days of refeeding inbetween. And before that multiple 48-72 hour fasts with one or two refeedings in between... I went from about 235 down to 175 in about a month and a half. This was about 4 years ago when I was around 31 years old.
Also in high school I fasted for 7 days and lost 21 lbs in order to wrestle at the same weight as I did the year prior. That's actually when I discovered how awesome fasting is.

I have been doing intermittent fasting for 4-5 years already. And it has helped me so much. Have been doing OMAD for 2 years. Before fasting I had my sugar levels high as well as my cholesterol. This has helped to get my levels optimal. I definitely recommend it. It’s a great way to keep weight in check without needing to count calories. Once you get used to it you notice how much of our daily lives is focused on eating and it’s not even that needed

After about 5 days, I experience a euphoric feeling, literally feels like I'm floating and I can be around people cooking and eating without feeling hungry. Fasting is pretty cool, once you get over that 3 day hump

I spent around a month not eating.. twice.
I did it to lose weight both times. It worked great. I took pre-natal vitamins (for the variety & high % of vitamins in them) @ the suggested daily amount and would still drink 3 nestle instant breakfasts a day. The first time, I lost about 45 lbs. That brought me to about 195 lbs. After about two years, I was back at my original weight. I did it again, but smarter (added the pre-natal vitamins) & a went a bit longer than a month. I was also doing foundation repair that had me crawling under houses a lot and would also work out (mostly bench & leg presses) after I got home at night. After that time I weighed 185 and stayed there for about a decade. My metabolism had changed to where It seemed I couldn't gain weight. That lasted until I went through some 💩 and had a bout of deep depression. That's another story though. I look forward to doing this again soon.

I just completed a 40-day fast (not 100% water only; but no meals or solid foods, or most liquids). The results, physically, were phenomenal!! I'm not a big guy (certainly not fat), but that 40 days was not nearly as hard as I expected it to me. I drank only filtered rain water. My BP went down, obviously lost some weight and muscle, but never really felt depleted. I think it cured my high BP. Will be doing it again in the new year (maybe sooner). :)

I had chronic cough for several years, in the end I was coughing at least once per minute, during the day and during sleeping with some attacks of non-stop cough for several minutes every now and then. Of course I went to doctors and they had no clue. It disappeared during my 14 days fasting, after 7th day (only water, no salts or anything else). It was 5 years ago and cough did not come back. I suspect it was some kind of allergy (maybe for dust) but as I said doctors had no clue so cannot say for sure. Before fasting I stopped eating meat and heavy food for a week, nearly only veggies. same after fasting, first juices mixed with water, then juices, veggies.
It is not said in the video but if you want to try fasting you have to understand that going OUT of it is the most dangerous part. You have to start eating very slowly, especially if you fast longer periods. my longest fasting was 31 days, I had few others 20,14,10 so I know from own experience. do not start until you know exactly how to proceed before and after.

On my second day of fasting! On the first day, I had a massive headache. I weigh 131 lbs at 5’2. My reason for it is my health, growing discipline, and dependency on food.

Just a 2 week fast reduced my sinus polyps by 80%, allowing me to breathe through my nose and smell again, after many years of a worsening condition, also allowed me to quit taking all allergy medication. Among many other benefits, I'm looking forward to the next prolonged fast.

Catholics fast a lot for all sorts of seasonal and penance reasons. I used to think I was hyperglycemic or diabetic from how awful I felt if I didn't eat lunch. Now I learned that once you drop sugar it's actually super easy. I did a 48 hr fast and was amazed it wasn't that hard since I went ketovore and zero sugar.

I just now finished my 100 hour water fasting about 4days plus.. after 2 & half day the hunger was gone. Everytime I get dizzy I took some supplement like electrolyte. However today 4th day my hands started to be shaky.. I knew it's time to break fast. I'll do it again tomorrow for another round. I'm doing it for health reason, recently having so chest pain & it went away after this fast. Incredible!

I would love to point out in type 1 diabetics, ketoacidosis, the point at which ketone levels are high enough to acidify the blood and cause organ damage is 3.5 mmol/L

I have been doing intermittent fasting the last 4 days and did HIIT workouts 3 of those days toward the end of my fast and my workouts have been awesome. I am doing more workouts while fasting and really enjoying the results.

Almost fifteen years ago I started a major transformation with a five-day fast. It changed, and saved, my life. After the fast I went on a strict low-carb/keto diet. I lost 40lbs, after struggling to lose weight all my life, and reversed my type-2 diabetes. At the time these ideas were revolutionary. But you can't argue with results. I'm glad the knowledge is now spreading like wildfire. It's about time.

I took a long walk for a few days with no food into the bush during the pandemic because... why not? The whole world went crazy, I'm gonna join in! Fasting reactivated nerves in my hip and back and a 20 year injury healed itself over the next year after the fasting as the muscles repaired themselves and realigned my hip and spine.
I recommend everyone try it. It sucks at first and then a few days into the hike you realize you feel amazing. Sore and hungry, but amazing.

On day 4 of my fast now. Going for 40 days or when I get to 212 lbs. Whichever comes first. Yesterday night 3 was brutal. Woke up today with 0 hunger at all. Gotta stay working and busy as best as I can. Feeling very energetic today and not at all hungry.

Fantastic video! I'm doing intermittent fasting since five years and completely stopped intaking processed foods and anything sugary. Went from light obesity to sixpack and feeling super healthy, both physically and mentally. Sleep is vastly improved. I can push way harder during exercise. I have no more mood swings. It saves a ton of time and money.
Seriously, if you could get a pill with all the positive effects from fasting it would be a miracle drug!

Started intermittent fasting 2 weeks ago today, 20-4 and started walking, walking a lot, today was my longest walk 17.3km in 3h and a half, in the last 5 days I've walked a total of 47km, begining of my fasting I weighed 101/2kg, this morning I weighed 96.6, i wouldn't stop until I am at 80kg, my height is 181cm 5"11½. Imo the best way to start fasting is start with something like the 16/8 schedule. Do that for a couple weeks. Then maybe move onto not eating once a week. Just slowly build it up

I can attest that this aligns with most things I experienced once I started intermittent fasting. My body completely reset. Even my circadian rythm. Is shed 10kgs of weight and even lost my cellulite. I stopped intermitten fasting after a while but then my body never returned to being big and I eat nonsense now(hides face). I also just enjoyed the amount of energy I always had.

I think the main reason that society demonizes fasting is because it’s the exact opposite of what large companies want… fasting is the absence of eating, so of course they’re not going to sell much if people constantly fast. I’m so glad we’re on the right end of the nutrition knowledge spectrum!

I kid you not, I went to buy a bag of chips, fruits and bread to snack on throughout the week and come back to this video. Then I see your benefits animations that I know all about since I've followed you and fasting for over 5 years now and I'm just like, oh yeah thats how I lost my first 25 lbs and felt better than ever. Have to say when I have fasted personally after the second day I am no longer hungry and hunger returns about 3 days after I stop fasting. During a fast I experience a noticeable increase in energy levels and feelings of well being together with increase in concentration for complex tasks and better sleep. After the first few times I found I actually like fasting and now do it quite often.

I’m 75 and over the last year I’ve been fasting for Autophagy because I don’t want my hard life to catch up with me. So far I’ve backed out of #2 and high Bp and high triglycerides and lost 80 lbs. lost balance problems that I got 50 years of therapy for. Today I use a electric Unicycle for some of my transportation, aid 4 days fasting is icing on the cake but no sugar. Low carb life.

I have been fasting more than half of my life (unintentionally) by skipping breakfast and typically not eating after 6/7pm.
I can 100% subscribe to all the benefits of fasting. Its makes my head clear, sharp and "light" (Literally and figuratively).
Usually im not hungry during fasting (maybe adaptation) but sometimes I need just some taste. Usually coffee in the morning, sour tastes or ginger (tea) help.
When i visit my relatives who eat "normal" I literally feel stuffed and sluggish all the time. Its fun to indulge sometimes but after a few days I voluntarily skip fresh, homemade pencakes for breakfast.
My biggest concern is that most people do not believe me when i say i like fasting. They assume underlying eating disorders, or that i want to shame their eating habits. Really annoys me

I was trying for years to lose fat. It was really hard. Intermittent fasting was one of the hardest things I tried to do in my life. You need so much mental strength to go through day while fasting. I am currently experimenting with site Next Level Diet, and it's working perfectly for me. 100% recommend.

Excellent overview of the subject. Maybe the best book on the subject is Fasting: The Ultimate Diet by Allan Cott, M.D. . This is an updated compilation of Dr. Cott's two books on fasting from the 1970s, the title mentioned, 1975, and his follow-up, Fasting As A Way of Life , 1977. When I was 22, in 1971, I went on a 28 day fast under the supervision of Dr. Cott, staying at a hospital in New York City, where they checked my vitals every other day. Dr. Cott used the Russian research on fasting for his protocols. You were supposed to drink 2 quarts of mineral or spring water a day (I think I drank Saratoga Springs water), exercise at least two hours a day--walking was okay--I walked around the city, and even joined in a pickup basketball game after two weeks, when my blood sugar had come up a little after the acidotic crisis, one of the phases of the fasting. You were supposed to take a shower every day and and scrub your skin with a loofah mitt, and also take a daily enema, at least until nothing more came out.
At the beginning of the fast I weigh 141.5 pounds, and when I broke the faster I weighed 107.25 pounds. I wasn't hungry after the first few days, although since I was supposed to follow a lactovegetarian diet after the fast, I spent a lot of time reading lactovegetarian recipe books, as a substitute for eating. It turned out I had no desire for dairy after the fast, just the fruits, raw vegetables, and nuts and seeds. The fast reset my sense of taste--something like a Hoffman Energy Bar tasted horribly sweet--and I did not need to add salt to my food, as I could better appreciate the natural flavor. I found that my visuospatial ability seemed to improve after the fast, as I had a small refrigerator in the room and I noticed I could more easily manipulate the contents for optimal space during the month long recovery period. My handwriting also improved after the fast.
There is a month long recovery period. In my case, to break the fast I was supposed to take only a few teaspoons at the time of fresh squeezed orrange juice the first day, then a small cup of orange juice alternated with water the second day; the third day adding some yogurt; the fourth day adding a few nuts and apples slices etc., because the digestive system has shut down. I noticed I had about six fluffy white bowel movements a day during the first part of the recovery period. I also was to avoid salt and alcohol during the recovery. After a couple weeks I had some soup from a health food restaurant that had a bit of salt in it and I got a little edema in my ankles and feet from that normal amount of salt. I saw at the end of this video a T-shirt that said "Take Salt"--I think that is misleading and possibly dangerous. Perhaps LMNT can supplement or replace the electrolytes in the mineral water, but from my experience, you should not just take salt, either during the fast or during the recovery period.
I noticed about halfway through the recovery there were a few nights where I needed only about three hours sleep. One month after the fast I had pretty much gained back the weight I lost, but I was not overweight to begin with. Also after the recovery period, I noticed if I were lying down or sleeping I could just jump up with no accommodation needed, that is there was no sluggishness or need to accommodate position or balance, blood pressure, or whatever. I just felt very light. Unfortunately, after a few months, I took about a half a teaspoon of bee pollen I got from a local farm, thinking it had vitamins that would be of benefit, and I had to lie down and take a nap even though I had only been up about eight hours, and after that that fine tuned feeling of lightness disappeared, so I must have been allergic to something in the bee pollen, but it shows how easily a fine turned system can be detuned.

Currently doing OMAD. (I have BED (Binge Eating Disorder) brought on by starvation ad punishment when I was a child, so I refuse to do anything longer.) During the pandemic, I gained A LOT due to sitting on my a** doing online school and studying. I started at 249. Already down to 241. My goal weight is 160 lbs. (Sounds like a lot for a 5'3/5'4 girl, but my doctor thinks its perfect.) I'll get there. Sometimes I eat twice a day. Sometimes I fast for 24 hours. But I dont care if Ive only lost 9 lbs. in 2 months. Slow and steady wins the race. I'll get there.

I did a 40 day fast. I broke my fast when I started to feel just off I don't really know how to describe it. I lost around 13kg and I did have re-feeding syndrome for about 4 days.I would describe everything after day 10 as a coast, really no changes other than generally feeling lighter, less inflamed, more stable energy, perhaps reduced stamina. It seemed I lost a lot of hair for a month after beginning to eat once again. I consumed only water, salts, vitamins, and mio, (I did not know of amino acid suppliments at that point.) (NaCl + water tastes bad on its own)

It wasn't intentional when I started but yesterday was my 20 day of fasting I had cravings but other than that I felt great I was worried that I am doing damage to myself so last night I had about 800 ml of minestrone soup approximately 90 calories. Now after losing 20lbs I still have 30 lbs to go should I wait a bit and fast again or intermittent fasting

Read a study, in a book, that mentioned extreme physical activity when fasting (or a very low caloric diet) increased HGH a crapton. During the extreme physical activity, the musculoskeletal gains were superior to steroids in a way - I forget the hows and whys, but was directly linked to fasting.
Added 'in a book' cause it seems like a lot of information and studies done on this topic are forgotten. Keep seeing online articles stating stuff recently discovered that were known before the internet.

Do you do a refeeding program after the fast? My stomach came to a complete halt and has never gone back to normal even 2 years after. (I didn't exactly fast but I went 7 weeks with no food due to hospitalization so I did get my fluids intravenously)

You are my favourite youtuber. I am conducting a prolonged waterfast for the 3rd time. The first 2 times I did for a week. This time I ll go for 30 days fasting and 10 days refeed. The refeed is what I am afraid of. Thats why I am dedicating some time into it.
While fasting videos about fasting and comments from other people showing their progress always motivated me. So I would love to give my take for you guys and motivate you.

The night before the fast I ate until 6pm and I ate lots of carbohydrates and lots of sweets. I take salts around the day when i feel dizzy.

I just finished a 4 week water fast, I think 14 days would've been enough, since you don't see much difference after that. I lost 40lbs, I assume 10 pounds of that is water weight, so I will say I lost 30 pounds in 28 days.

As a type 1 diabetic I've learned that insulin is the the hormone that tells your body "I have enough sugar to power my brain and organs. Convert the rest into fat." But early on I also tried to control my diabetes with a sub 20 carb a day diet for years. At some point when your body switches into a non insulin ketone consuming diet it eventually starts consuming any protein it has available. In my case I lost all my fat and then it was muscles and organs. And when a body consumes protein for energy instead of blood sugar (using insulin), for long periods of time, it creates a byproduct very close to acetone. Which is what leads to Diabetic ketoacidosis.

I’ve been trying to get past 48 hour mark but around 30 hours I can’t anymore.
I’ve fasted for 22 days and 19 days and 10 days and multiple 3-5 days. But this time is harder.
It is my goal to go to 30 days. But the first 30-72 hours are really hard.
When I did 22 days my heart rate was in the 30s.
I recently have been trying to get past 30 hours but I get so hangry and grumpy.
