The 100 BEST Films of ALL TIME
476,223 views Oct 12, 2019
SUBSCRIBE PLEASE - MEANS ALOT
Before you attack my old opinion like so many others, remember this list is over a year old, I don't remotely agree with it anymore, just happens to be one of my videos that blew up, my Top 100 is vastly different now. I was 14 when I made this. Also, don't attack anyone's film opinions lol, we're all allowed to think what we want.
I will do an update of this list every year, this list is based soley on my opinions of the quality of films involved based on cinematography, acting, directing, writing (plot, dialogue,) score and production.
Cheers for watching.

If you want to call it "My Favorite 100 Movies," I'd have been fine, but not only are the rankings questionable at best but the choices leave something to be desired as well. . .

Pretty good list for a 14 year old...and quite a few here are "non-violent"...however it seems the majority of films here were made post 1980....the list therefore omits total innovative classics like..."Citizen Kane", "Metropolis", Barry Lydon, 2001 a Space Odyssey, The Magnificent Seven, The Wizard of Oz , Once upon a time in the West, Once upon...in America, The Excorcist 3, Double Indemnity, Bridge over the River Kwai, American Graffitti, Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter, On the Waterfront, The Mission, Brighton Rock, The Graduate, Excalibur, In the heat of the night, Paris Texas, The Grapes of Wrath, Ben Hur and so many more...and if it's violence you want add 1982s "Scarface" or the first three Dirty Hary Films or First Blood One (Rambo) or its sequel...

I see in this list as a reflection of current society: the violence, the blood, the horror, sex, lowest level of cultural language. It is not that I did not see these elements in the previous generations. Is there a drift in the story content as result of the rating system; the greed for money? Society always gets what it wants, whatever the market will reward. There were a few noteworthy elements in this list. The Twelve Angry Men had a point that gave a better element to move to a more civilized human culture. I was hoping that more culturally significant content would dominate the list (not dismissing Schindler list, Saving Private Ryan, the God Father, or One Flew Over the cuckoos nest , Rear window, etc..). What kind of society pays to be severely frightened, to experience the massive sound that accompanies to explosions in a theater. Is that all there is to story telling? If that is all there is, then lets keep dancing.

It's your list and that is all that matters. I'd probably remove a few and add some more foreign titles and older films. After avoiding subtitles for a good part of my life, I've now come to love so much cinema that is not English language. As far as other English language titles I might add... Silence of the Lambs, Chinatown, Fargo, Sling Blade, Raging Bull, The Manchurian Candidate, Network, LA Confidential and maybe even HER

What an incredibly ambitious feat. There is no way anyone will agree with your list. I was surprised that "Citizen Kane" wasn't on it. Most people would stick to 10 movies. The fact that you were so bold is probably why it was watched by so many dumbasses including myself: 1 hour of my life wasted. You did at least include "The Shawshank Redemption" as # 1, and I will, sort of agree with that. If I were to compile my top ten movies, I would not be able to rank them day to day, but I think that I would be able to list them based on how many times I have watched that movie. This is my 10 in no particular order:
Star Wars, the trilogy
The Matrix
The Waterboy
A Bridge Too Far
The Shawshank Redemption
Sergeant York
Pulp Fiction
The Godfather, I & II
Edge of Tomorrow
Shane, you included Logan in your list, and yet never acknowledged "Shane", the movie that Logan was playing homage to.
I know that this is technically more than ten, but it would be hard to deny that one followed the other in the same story. I will also tell you that years ago A&E created a show, where they broke down "The Godfather I & II" into chronological order and aired it. It was great.
I would also argue that "Inglorious Basterds" should not be included, because there was zero character development within that story. It was a fun film to watch and filled with action, but there is zero character building. That doesn't make it a bad film, but it also doesn't make it a great film. You could make the same argument about, "A Bridge Too Farr", but that film wasn't really about the characters in it.

Just a thought, I think it literally impossible to put best all time movies into a 100 list (at least for me) Yeah I will agree the movies on the list are great movies but so many other movies didn't make the list. If it was possible I would like to see a 100 list in different genres, such as horror , SIFI, Romance, Drama, Action even Strange movies that wouldn't fit in any other categories and have 100 in every list. Just a thought

Thank you, Josh. I enjoyed this well-considered collection of film masterpieces (and just a few minor pieces). Having sat through too many lousy versions of this theme, I began watching with low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised by your choices, and I especially appreciated the excellent editing. I became more engaged as the picture rolled out, and I noticed how precise each clip you selected gave the viewer a Goldilocks version of each movie in question. At this point, something rare occurred; setting the cursor aside, I put down the delicious MSM sandwich (1) I had been focused on and sat back to take in quality content. Naturally, any small sample of such a controversial subject will provoke debate. I would contest a few good-not-great choices early on your list (Spiderman, not enough original content, too much CGI, and way too much Tobey Mcguire; Gangs of New York, substandard performances from the leading actors and pornographic levels of violence which intended to titillate instead bring revulsion; The Hateful Eight in the same poisonous vein is a nauseating brew of gratuitous violence coughed up by Tarantino (2). You forgot the unforgettable comedic masterpiece Groundhog Day and failed to detect the deeply moving Das Boot. However, I agree with your top ten choices, and I enjoyed the subtle change of pace as you ran up to number one - Well done.
1. Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich.
2. Tarantino is at his best when he keeps his tongue in his cheek and the violence in check.

Everyone has their own favorite best films of all time, but this list is not 100 of the best cinematic pieces of work. There’s definitely some movies on here that belong on this list, but the order in which they’re in and some of the movies chosen are bad judgment.

Only a selfish film hater would reveal so many key moments and the deaths of so many major characters. A solid way of making sure nobody would bother watching half of these classic films.

People who love cinema shoud explore director Sidney Lumet, and not just "12 angry men" (which is great). But "Network", "Dog day Afternoon", "The Verdict", "Serpico", "Before the devil knows you´re dead", "Running on Empty", "The Hill", "Prince of the City", "Fail Safe", "death trap". Sure he pumped out a lot of movies that was not that good, but those mentioned and a few more were great!

It's extremely difficult to pick the top 200 movies of all time. So you got some good ones but you still failed. 3 days of the condor. All the presidents men. The color purple. A soldiers story. Do the right thing. Top gun Maverick. The Shawshank Redemption . Independence Day. Millers Crossing. A Bronx Tale. American Pop. As I finished what I thought you missed. I see you ended with Shaw Shank. I woul have put platoon and the deer hunter in also. I woul have put The shining over the exorcist. And Malcolm X over JFK. I would have added 3 sports movies. Bull Durham, Remember the Titans, and North Dallas 40.

Interesting list. You rate American Psycho a long way above The Godfather. There are a lot of films on this list that I have never seen on any other and there are a ton of great movies missing. Some of the films on this are a joke. You would seem to be very poorly equipped to compile this list in the first place.

Interesting list. It's funny how whenever these lists get put together a few from the previous 10 - 15 years make up a good chunk. I wonder how many will stand the test of time. I've never understood the appeal of The Shawshank Redemption. Don't get me wrong it's a fantastic movie. Seen it 4 or 5 times, I just don't understand why critics place it in the absolute upper echelons.
My top 10 (For transparency)
10. Mystic River
9. The Departed
8. Withnail & I
7. The Usual Suspects
6. Seven Samurai
5. The Thin Red Line
4. The Godfather
3. There Will Be Blood
2. Three Colours: White

It seems you have a preference for a handful of particular actors. The themes reveal your psychy. Typical male fantasy stuff.
Two forgotten: best time travel paradox, Predestination with Ethan Hawke. Best musician story, Amadeus. Well, we all have our favorites. I agree with Shawshank Redemption for number one.

Obviously you are a Tarantino fan. I agree with most of the movies on your list, not necessarily the order. GWTW has to be in the top 10 for grandeur, sets and the perfect casting of Scarlett. Would have been good to see some very old films, one in particular comes to mind, Sunrise: a song of two humans from 1927. Another one to add to the list is the Japanese film, Shoplifters from 2018. Finally a 5 star film from this year, Oppenheimer, I feel should be on the list.

This list is ludicrous. For one, there is almost a total absence of foreign films here; more properly you could say the 100 best American Films of all time, although I wouldn't agree with many of the choices and rankings. Second, there are some eyepopping omissions in the top 20: The Godfather 1&2; 2001 A Space Odyssey, for example. Great noir films like Casablanca and the Maltese Falcon. Citizen Kane anyone? The worst omissions are no films prior to 1962 except Gone With the Wind. What!!!??? (And yes, Gone With The Wind derserves to be last although it would be on my list.)

Highly disturbing machismo choices emphasizing scene selections of gratuitous violence.
Though I’ve seen the majority of these, I would only have dignified a few of them.

Pretty Fine Picks. Some of My favs I thought you were going to miss but many-many fell in line.Because of this I plan to see some I know nothing about that are on your list.
Many Comments about Violence. There are so many of those that have an amazing pschological angle and twist Which are the Key for me although , however far we have "evolved" morally some of the BEST movies are about Drama and Trauma.Much of that encompasses violence directly or indirectly.
I feel I'm older and to be truthful I might get away with the best 250 !!!!!
I Gotta I'm glad to see "The Professional'-Leon on someones list It is Soo underrated.
Took my Daughter to it at the old single screen movie house for a buck B4 it closed. She love's it to this day.I walked out saying that girl will be huge! Guess I can pick'em.Main draw was one of my Faves Gary Oldman. Can count on one hand films I've seen of his that I didn't care for.

All are nice, brilliant films. Many of them included in some other 'Best of' lists... but this list is a collection of personal favorites rather than an 'All time ever'.
First of all, it lacks true classics inclusions of Silent Era, Hollywood Golden Era, New Hollywood, European, Asian, Latin American cinema, Hidden Gems, Indie Films, etc.
It takes a great deal of time to build a more global, complete list.
Great effort, though.

I agree with 89 of them, so overall a good list, however there are at least 10 or 12 that I feel should be here as well. One I think should definitely not be here is 2001 A space
Odyssey, absolutely terrible movie lot of hype at the time and lots of people praising it but not one person actually liked it. You redeemed yourself though (haha) by including Cinema Paradiso, never met anyone who has even heard of it but it's one of my all time favourites and has always been on my top 20 list. Thank you, enjoyed this.

Interstellar, Memento, The Prestige and Inception are on your list. Congrats, you have a fantastic taste for movies!😊
I add A few good men, Deja vu, The Elephant Man, The remaining of the day, Minority report, Good Will Hunting, Dead poet society, A beautiful mind, Who framed Roger Rabbit, Groundhog day and The father. But about the latest movie, it's not your fault, because it came out on 2021, two years after this video😅.

After seeing "The Signs" I lost faith in the list 😂 It could've been Braveheart (Mel Gibson), Close Encounter of the Third Kind (alien movie) or The 6th Sense atleast if you like M.Night Shyamalan. Obviously the one who made the list only familiar with movies 90's to 2010's. Amadeus, Rosemary's Baby, North by Northwest, Dr. Strangelove, Citylights (Charie Chaplin) to name a few and lots of Film Noir are really good

It's a sorry list and grossly out of order =which equals the generation of the person who made this list. Bonnie and Clyde, Taxi Driver for shock/violence. Alien and the Exorcist for advanced shock/violence. Deliverance, Easy Rider for shocking violence. Dirty Harry and To live and Die in LA for cop ... and violence. The Big Lebowski and Airplane for not violence. Fantastic Voyage, Logans Run, Goldfinger, and the Final Destination series for ambitious sci-fi. Newer movies show the breakdown of true entertainment and the degeneracy of thespians.

I agree with many of your choices, and I am commenting 4 yrs later. In these 4 years there are not many to count as any good. Is difficult to choose 100 among hundreds of thousands. Quest for Fire, I'll definitely add, All That Jazz, it;s just that there are so many more, Rocky is a huge one. Scent of a Woman, but the original Italian version, the actor is much better than Pacino in that movie<; Ben Hur. You choose several sequels of a movie rather than the original, like Star Wars, the original was incredible, same with Mad Max, the first one was raw, brutal, not so produced; The Tin Drum from 1979...

Take a look at the continuity error in American History X. When Dani is shot he lets go of the essay he was holding in his hand, on the next scene he is laying dead with the essay on his hand. Terrible

It takes a lot of arrogance to call this list "The 100 BEST Films of ALL TIME" and not "My favorite 100 films of all time"-I will only mention 1 film which is far too low, Goodfellas at 36, (although there are others) and some omissions such as The Godfather 1 and 2, Modern Times and City Lights, and the total lack of foreign films-the list should have been titled "The best American films..."-I won't films that were ranked too highly as there are too many to list

Warum nur USamerkanische Filme? Gibt auch andere Staaten, die gute Filme gemacht haben.

Why the overbearing soundtrack of music - I wanted to listen to the original soundtracks! (Elevating music, though!)

Oh yes, I should add Blade Runner, and The Lathe of Heaven. And animated films, perhaps 'robots'. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Star Trek: the Voyage Home. Scifi film Logan's Run. War; Paths of Glory or Full Metal Jacket. I would Not include any superhero movies, nor any Star Wars, all too juvenile...

I'm a film buff, so I've actually seen every film here. However, with all of the spoilers, if there had been one movie I hadn't seen, it would have seriously angered me. So the video gets a 👎. Maybe the 2nd or 3rd time I've done that. Mostly I don't bother.

A completely inadequate list. Should have been called the 100 most violent films. No mention of the truly great films of the 30s, 40s, 50s etc. A list for those who can not understand understand anything other than bloodshed.

When you claim „of all time“ maybe you should consider „to be or not to be“ „citizen Kane“ or „singing in the rain“ maybe 1 Chaplin-Movie just to name a few films from other time-periods.
