Barbra Streisand holds the record as the ONLY artist with at least one number album in all six consecutive decades starting in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 00’s and 10’s

It’s so interesting that in the sixties, certain acts could release so many albums over the course of a couple of years and they would all reach #1. In the case of Herb Alpert, he even released a greatest hits album after just a few years.

What I noticed about the compilation is that albums in the 80s and 90s regularly spent over 3 weeks in the charts. However, in modern times most albums spent only a week in the charts and rarely over 3 weeks.

Wow. In an era where 10 weeks at #1 for a single has become common, two weeks at #1 for an album is rare. 2 hours and 18 minutes of tiny clips is so impressive. You should do a video of biggest albums or longest at #1 would get more views.

From 1963 to around 2000 there were singers, themes, spectacular musical groups, from 2000 onwards with few exceptions, music and singers were declining alarmingly, a sad reality.

In 1991 when Billboard started using Soundscan, it became easier to have a No.1.
That is why veteran acts like Neil Diamond, James Taylor, Black Sabbath and others didn't hit the top until late into their careers, with lesser selling albums.

It's interesting that around the mid-2000s the trend of big artists holding the top spot for weeks and weeks was gone. Before that it took a hit single or two on the radio to convince us to buy the album. Then suddenly many albums from huge artists were #1 for just a week or two. I guess marketing had gotten so good that everyone knew that a big album was coming, then everyone who was interested in the artist bought it the week it came out, and that was it for that album.

Thanks for taking the time to make this journey through essentially the history of US popular music since the 60s even moreso than the Hot 100 singles #1s in my opinion. The only mistake I saw was the wrong year (1976-should have been 1965) was listed for the first chart date listed for Whipped Cream & Other Delights

It's pretty quaint how many number one country albums have topped the Billboard chart. George Strait must be like the US equivalent of Cliff Richard. Loads of hits in the US and Canada, but never dented the top 100 and pretty much unknown anywhere outside the continent of North America.

Great and informative video. Not wanting to be controversial, but even the album chart looks and sounds to me like a parade of horrors since the late 1980's/ early 1990's, with the occasional (and rarer and rarer) good surprise. Again, congrats for such a huge undertaking.

Prince got 3 number 1 albums in his career but going far beyond is his influence with his Minneapolis Sound that infested the 80s. 1999 album begun this influence on songs artist like Shalamar, Phil Collins, Ready for The World, David Bowie and MJ. But Prince´s influence did not stop there; you can find his influence on albums by Chaka Kan, Cindy Lauper, Sheena Easton, Madonna, Sinead O´Connor, MC Hammer, Kenny Rogers, Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, TLC, No Doubt...

What happened to music? Where did the soul go? I am old. I am wise. Music went downhill after the 90's.

It's funny to read all these comments how bad today's music is
You know mainstream isn't everything?
Even in mainstream sometimes there are some fun, catchy or creative songs so you're just getting old

Albums that failed to hit the top:
Led Zeppelin IV - Zeppelin's biggest
Back in Black - AC/DC
(Biggest rock album of the 80s)
Come on Over - Shania Twain
(Top selling album of the nineties)
Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park
(Top selling rock album post 2000).

How in the heck is Michael Jackson's Thriller the #3 biggest Billboard album ever? How can the #1 selling album ever be #3 biggest on Billboard? That makes absolutely NO SENSE.

Fearless from Taylor Swift was actually the number one album in January 2009 not April 2021 so this video is slightly off with some songs
