My husband gets so upset that I choose to do 20/4 - I fast from 8pm until 4pm every day unless something comes up. And I work around it but my husband gets upset for i skip meals. He feels the most important meal is breakfast which I don’t eat any more. I have dropped 25lbs and I am able to maintain my weight of 125lbs and I am 5’6” so this is so exciting! I’m now a small in most of my clothing. It really has changed my life.

I started IF in July and have lost 30 lbs! This is a game changer for me...I recently did a 42 hour fast to boost my autophagy. Thankyou for this information putting it in plain, simple terms!
I am no longer pre-diabetic, my thyroid is back in normal range, my joints don't hurt anymore and my plantar fasciitis went away! Game changer!!!

I am a retired teacher and I loved this presentation! I have taught health as well and I think this could be shown to high school students. I believe we need to teach our students MORE about how to live a healthier and happier lifestyle. I would certainly want them to know how to meditate and how to combat metabolic syndrome, diabetes and all of the benefits mentioned in this video. My goal as a teacher was to help students be successful with the stress on happiness more than any money.
I want my PCP to be in integrative medicine and though I live near Seattle, they seem to be few are far between. Any ideas?

I have been on a intermittent fasting journey for around 9 months now. I use the 18/6 method and I have lost 64 lbs. But the real bonus for me has been Autophagy. Every 4-5 weeks I will go on a water fast. The first time was for 72hrs. Then I did it again for 96hrs. The benefit of mental clarity is eye opening. But the benefit I noticed mostly is that the pain I used to experience in both my knees has become so much more manageable. No pain killers. Just letting nature do what our bodies are made to do. I do on occasion get sore knees again. But not anywhere near as bad as they were. I also walk a great deal. Anywhere between 6-10 miles a day. Most days it around 7 miles in under 2 hours and these days that is done with comparative ease. I cannot recommend strongly enough the real benefits of Autophagy. And I certainly feel that Doctors and more health practitioners should be doing more to promote this. Especially if you are overweight or someone with constant symptoms causing you pain. You have absolutely nothing to lose, and everything to gain by trying this.

I have seen many YouTube videos on autophagy, but this one is one of the easiest to grasp and well presented! I practice intermittent fasting myself (6 days a week of 16/8 and one day of 24 hr fast). I have seen many of the benefits described here, including weight loss (BMI of 31 down to 24.5 in 2 years) and complete reversal of Type 2 diabetes within 6 months. A switch to a completely plant based diet also helped. These strategies are well worth following, and as mentioned in the video, fasting is essentially free!

I’ve been doing this for years as I have SLE. I am American Indian and use native herbs, roots, etc. I was experiencing liver issues. When I get a flare, I fast throughout the flare. It has helped me tremendously. I recently, had severe CoVID and autophagy was helpful.

I just completed a 84 hour fast. This is a great video describing why I feel so good. The scale didn’t change an ounce. But that’s not why I did it. It was all for my cells. Thanks for all your common sense, simple descriptions. Make’s understanding the harder processes very simple✌🏼

Excellent video that gives a concise but well explained summary of autophagy and fasting. Can’t wait to share this one with my wife. I am about to turn 46 in another week and I have been doing something different this year. Through a combination of getting back into the gym for 60 minute workouts three times a week, better eating habits which include an 80% reduction in processed foods, and a healthy balance of intermittent and longer-term fasting (my longest so far is 40 hours but I hope to improve that to 72 and beyond) I have so far reduced my weight from 205 to 188 and more importantly I feel better, I think Sharper, and I’m not dreading 46 like I once was. I’ve replaced numerous pounds of fat with muscle growth! I’m now on a quest to be healthier and more physically fit at 50 than I was at 30.

Autophagy and the creation of stem cells are two of the most useful and life-saving mechanism you benefit from when fasting. Taking advantage of these in your younger days will ensure a strong and healthy immune system throughout the rest of your life

The best video to introduce autophagy to people and trigger their interest to take action. Also the first video I saw that I feel confident to share with my wife because it's clear, comprehensive and includes a special section for women.
Next would be to learn more about fasting safely as a starting vegan. 😊

I work as a hospitalist. I don’t eat breakfast or lunch and eat a " dirty keto " supper. I lift weights. I walk 3 miles from 4: 30 AM to 5:30 AM. Study medicine and drink coffee from 5:30 to 6:30 AM. Start work at 7:00 AM every other week. I lost 40 pounds and have maintained it for 7 years. My CRP is undetectable and cholesterol excellent. My mind is sharp and clear. Autophagy and coffee work for me! I cheat only on holidays for family acceptance. Keep up the good work. Love your site!

Thank you so much Dr. Rajsree for your information it’s very educational. I started intermittent fasting about a month ago I’m doing 20/4 and a couple of 24 hours of fasting. I’ve been trying to lose about 40 pounds for the last couple years and nothing worked for me until I started doing intermittent fasting. I dropped 8 pounds already I never thought I could do it but I’m more motivated now than ever.

My doctor laughs at me when I bring up fasting and keto. But he is very impressed with my washboard stomach muscle. I’m age sixty 169lbs, 5 years ago I had joint pain, pre diabetic and 200 lbs. I only see my once a year for blood work, and the numbers are good. Most people recommend talking to your doctor, however most of them don’t understand nutrition or tell to eat Three meals a day and reduce fat and eat grains. Food pyramid needs to be changed, the food conglomerates control the government along with the drug companies.

Great presentation Doc. I’ve now become a firm believer in fasting. Lost 40 pounds in 5 months by kicking the carbs/sugar from my diet and adding IF (started at 16, then increased to 18-20, and do a 36 hr occasionally) and I physically feel amazing. Inflammation has gone away, blood pressure has stabilized, and best of all my mood has enhanced significantly. This lifestyle is awesome 🤙🏼

Excellent video. My first water fast was 36 days, after which I started a keto OMAD routine. Now I am on day four of another fast. I have lost close to 50 pounds in just over two months. I have another 45 or so to go to get to what I weighed in my younger days, but at the moment I am feeling very good!

I'm doing intermittent fasting since more than 4 years now. I started with 16/8 then started 18/6 and then levelled up to 20/4 with 1 meal a day and doing it presently. In the initial 1 and a half years I lost 30 kgs. I'm maintaining the weight. I've gained health, I'm now as energetic as I was 20 years ago. I do fasted long walks and fasted weight training also. All fatigue is gone and now I don't feel drowsy after meals like I did. Skin is glowing, stamina has increased, immunity is much better now.

I’ve been fasting on and off for decades, and only got more serious about doing IF in the last couple of years. Your inclusion of autophagy is excellent, and so important for the bigger ‘health benefits’ picture. I’m passing along this great yet simple video to all I know who want: goal A, B, C… or complain about: malady A, B, C…. Rajsree, you really struck a perfect balance between providing knowledge, and making it easily digestible (pun not intended). :)

I went from 230+ to 155 using carnivore 0MAD 20/4 and fasting 24+ every 6 weeks. I can tell you that I feel better now than I have in decades. I also have the lab work to back it up as well. Tip: Don't try and go all the way right off the bat. Keep turning up the dial on your fasting interval, eat low carb/high fat/high protein - shoot for ketosis first, then move up to fasting. (<10g/lots/150g+) Once you can do 0MAD you can easily do 36-48 fasting. Some fast periods that I do are because I missed my feeding window and I don't want to change my schedule, so I just hold off until the next normal feeding window.

Great video, I personally do IF of 18 hours per day, 4 days a week and 2.5 days per week of extended fasting. I also do a lot of walking, routinely getting in 10k steps. It’s all come together and in the past 2.5 months, I’ve lost around 30lbs and my health and energy feel much better. I’m still morbidly obese with metabolic syndrome but I’ve made great progress so far. I know a lot of people recommend going keto, but personally I find that excessive. I do use lower carbs however.

I will be 66 on March 4th this year. I began my journey of intermittent fasting with an aggressive carb and sugar restricted diet in the latter part of June, 2021. I began just eating one good meal per day. It was much easier to do than i thought it would be. After two months of that, i lost about 60 pounds of excess fluids and body fat. I was also able to reverse almost every chronic health problem that plagued me for decades.
Some of those conditions included obesity, a fatty liver, edema in my lower legs and feet which led to chronic cellulitis occurring in the lower legs. I would bruise easily, contract infections easily, and it would take a long time to heal. I was also urinating frequently at night, had occasional hypertension and had symptoms related to COPD, among other things. All of these conditions have at best, completely reversed, and at worst, have greatly improved.
There are two issues that i am still struggling with. My feet are always sore, and my toes are stiff. I suspect that there may still be some stubborn neuropathy in my feet. And have also had a hard time of eliminating the puffiness under my eyes. Do you think it could be helpful if i try multi day extended fasting once in a while?

Nicely done. I'm 58 and a 7-year vegan that eats once a day between 4:30-6:pm with 20-hours of fasting...” daily”. And it feels amazing! My blood test says it all. No more IBS, kidney stones, bloating, and my acute pancreatic pain went away.
My motto is, very, very little sodium, avoid the nightshades, caffeine, get sugars from the plants and low sugary fruits, avoid GMO's, alcohol, eat mostly anti-inflammatory foods, and eat processed plant-based meat-less products sparingly.

I do IF 16:8 since starting menopause in June, and it’s been a blessing! My doctor recommends this for women who are menopausal or already in menopause. My eating window is 8a-4p, and very, very rarely do I eat after 4. It helped shed the “middle aged spread” that was starting to happen around my abdomen, it helps me sleep better, and I don’t get heartburn in the middle of the night that I was getting because of eating at night. My energy is also very high for my age, and it really slowed down the aging process for me. I may work in a 20:4 fast one day a month just as a “reset”, but for now, this is working very well.

This is the best video I've seen on the subject of autophagy. I've been familiar with these benefits at least 25 years before the name autophagy came on the scene. This good doctor fills in a few of the blanks everybody could benefit from. Especially the relationship between Mtor and autophagy. Thank you doctor.

Thanks. That's a great video👍past week 1 - I did 24 hour IF. Week 2 - 5 day water fast and I'm currently in week 3 and day 6 of my water fast. Overall, I have lost a lot of weight, feel great, BP has gone to a healthy range, sleeping well, more energy.
I'm hoping to keep this going for several weeks as I've suffered from SONK in my right knee and want to improve my chance of returning to running. Great work cheers.,

One of the best videos I have watched regarding Autophagy, Intermittent fasting and so on. I was kind of missing some more comments about what happens in the body when we eat and insuline are produced regarding fat storage and how this hormone stops the Autophagy process. It is a great compilation of all the information I have obtained about the subject from T. Delauer and Dr. Berg to mention some of the more well known resources in this field. Thank you so much for a great video which I have already shared with friends.

Thank you, Dr. Nambudripad, for a clear, thorough review of autophagy and its benefits. There is a lot of dubious, melodramatic information about health posted on YouTube. Your video was like a breath of fresh air. I wish that more YouTubers would adopt your clear, well-organized approach to discussing health-related topics.

I did fasting over 2 years with on -off fasting. I felt so good sometimes and I didn’t feel well in another time. And now I understand why I am not feeling well when I did fasting on my Luteal phase. I did all 3 types of menstrual period and it’s true that I felt normal when I did fasting in follicular phase but not in luteal phase according to my experiences. Thank you for sharing such a great knowledge ❤❤.

Thanks for the great video! I've been doing intermittent and extended fasting for over 2 years with excellent results. I'll never return to the 3 meals a day, and I'm convinced most everyone will be doing some form of fasting in the not-too-distant future. There's so many benefits! One point I try to emphasize with those people who wonder about hunger when fasting is this: I generally eat from 9AM to 12 noon each day and my body quickly became accustomed to this pattern. I never get hungry in the evenings and feel fine most all the time.

This video is FANTASTIC~! It covers every base. I've been practicing fasting off and on for about 2-3 years and you've finally made the coffee question clear for me. THANK YOU~!! I'm using this info to reverse type 2 diabetes and have just shared it. I'm sad about the coffee creamer, but now armed with a CGM, I can see the blood glucose spike which definitely shows it stops my autophagy. I do not like black coffee, so may drink tea instead during fasting. Thank you again!

Autophagy is a completely new word to me and one I have come across recently, so decided to investigate further. You video popped up and I though perfect!! You have blown my mind with such a clear concise explanation. I have suffered for years with an autoimmune condition and depression, I recently reached a crisis point and felt the only other thing I could change was my diet, skip toward 3months and I have learnt so so much about the mind body connection. This is the icing on the cake and has propelled me further with my diet and IF. Thank you so much 😊

Very well done! I could relate to the male star of your video, Kevin, as that’s my name and I also suffered from metabolic syndrome and pre diabetes, which have corrected with a ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. BTW, I’m a board certified internal medicine physician, and virtually none of my colleagues recommend a low carb diet or intermittent fasting to their patients, and many think I’m ignorant or downright reckless for advocating this lifestyle

I don't do fasting to lose weight. For almost 3 years I've been battling a myriad of medical issues. I had learned about and been doing IF for several years. Changed my eating. No processed foods. Reduced sugar immensely. I do fasting strictly for medical reasons. I honestly believe it is the only reason I am alive.

I switched to eating only once a day (diner) with regular black coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon and lost 20 Kgs in 7 months. I was 107 kgs for 1.85m and went to 87kgs. Felt much more energic as soon as I started to loose weight. I had made a heart attack 2 years before and was diabetic type 2- my blood pressure is now around 11/6 where it use to be 16/9. No more diabète.

I do fast for Autophagy have been doing it about two years. The positive results at a requested eye exam lead to Dr./patient conversation. I had 3 eye improvements and I’m 75 years old, when we were done talking about fasting/Autophagy he said he’s going to do more research on, he thought it was vary interesting. I’ll just say I feel like a metabolic super power. I don’t have any prescriptions in my house. 2 days twice a month is my favorite.

Subscribed to add another intelligent person to my Arsenal of healing. I have gone from 340 to 240 in exactly one year. I do 16 hour fasts every day, basically my normal eating schedule now and a 24 hour once a week. I’ve implemented 72 hr once every 2 months. My triglycerides have gone from 300 to 99 and fasting insulin 125 to 95 I feel better but I have a 40 lbs to go. Keep up the great work and thank you for the life saving information. I did intermittent fasting for a week or so and lost some belly fat. Then I tried a 48 hr fast. On day two I had zero energy. So I’m going to try fasting every other day, essentially a 36 hr fast. We’ll see how that goes.

keeping you from anti-aging.

I think it is easier to fast without water or anything else.
Ramadam started so I fasted for 23 hours the first day and 14 plus hours today.
I felt the autophagy today.
It was like scanning my body and stopping for longer where there are issues like my teeth which I always had problems with.
That means that autophagy started at about 8 to 10 hours mark.
I hope to be able to keep up dry fasting for more days till I won t feel my body needs fixing. And I am not muslim but I take this opportunity to fast knowing many people do it at the same time.
😀

In between doing a short 12 hour fast and a fast which lasts for several days, I imagine there would be various stages of autophagy which the body would go through, and which would be more beneficial on a cellular level.

Hi Dr.Rajsree
Thanks for all the videos. I don't have any health issues. I have started Intermittent Fasting 3 months ago and lost 10 Kilos. Zero carbs and zero sugars. Amazing. My tummy has flattened. I am able to see my toes standing straight up and looking down without bending. Eat a lot of veggies in the form of salads.
I am a vegetarian but do eat eggs.
I have a question. With prolonged fasting and with Autophagy kicking in, will the body start self eating even the organs like Pancreas, Liver, Kidneys, Small and Large intestines etc or will they stay intact.
I will be grateful and thankful if you could clarify my about doubt.

Thanks for clear explanation. I fast periodically and to day I ended a 38 hour fast. Low carb eater and really feel well at 74 y/o and was bad in all metabolic areas. That’s what scared me into low carb. This current fasting gave me a constant light headache but I didn’t feel hungry. Why the headache? After I had coffee and a avocado it went away, wish I had one at a time. I’m subscribing.

First it was kind of hard to determine hours for eating and fasting, but finally I made it much simpler. I simply skip breakfast and dinner, and have bigger lunch. No snacking, but fruits occasionally between lunches. I jog as well, and i feel great.

Great video, very informative!!! Thank you. I’m 57 year old woman with low thyroid, ( controlled by medication) chronic pain, 140 or some days 145 pounds. I think fluctuations in my weight are due to the water retention. I tried intermittent fasting for 36 hours for activation of autofagy, also hoping to loose some weight.....
Even if I loose a pound and a half it comes back literally within the next day:((( I eat healthily the way you recommend!
So my question is : is it possible that fasting slows down the
metabolism? Thank you in advance for reading my comment and for your answer👍❤️

I've intermediate fasted 16-18 hours, last couple months, usually 3 days a week, before I use to go 12+ hours and thought this was unhealthy but after I found out about fasting I knew I could go another 4-6 hours, I do drink black coffee in the mornings, a couple cups so I'm glad to see this is ok? Thinking I can go 24-48 hours now maybe once a month, thanks for the tips, going to put some lemon in my water.

I have histamine intolerance and have been fasting for 6 days (with the exception of one 300 calorie break). I've been taking low-histamine probiotics and beef kidney for DAO the whole time. How close do you think I could be to being healed? (I was reacting to everything with a severe asthma attack after overdosing for 7 months on fermented vegetables.). Thank you for your opinion! I'd love to have an approximate time for intense autophagy with this prolonged fast to heal my gut so I can eat again. I can do the fast OK, but I do miss eating and fear I'll never be "normal" again no matter how long I fast.

This is my first time watching your videos. This is helpful. I alternate 2mad with OMAD. But, I'm mostly OMAD.
I eat what I want. I do limit my caloric intake. In my first 24 hours, I lost 7 lbs. Have been seeing some great results. I've been doing this about 2 weeks.
My question is, how can I tell when I have entered autophagy?

Very informative very eloquent clear description on what's going on with your body and ways to heal your body. with the benefits of intermittent fasting. Thank you💕 for many years inadvertently I may have been doing this in my working day each day. I used to take my beautiful Daughter to school she used to like me taking her and picking her up from school. I was self-employed and I thought I can do this. I used to drop her off at 8.30 and pick her up at 3 p.m. from when she was little First School right up until she was 16, from school, (from when we she was 15/16 sometimes she walked home, but I always make sure to be home to greet her) this gave me 5.5 hours work straight through with no lunch breaks then get her evening dinner ready so that meant I hadn't eaten from 5 p.m. to 5 p.m. my job was very hard physically outdoors I just used to run on filtered black coffee in a flask all I had all day was just one small square 1 inch by 1 inch what I called an energy cake I made which consisted of wholegrain self-raising flour one complete orange and lemon with peel with some cane sugar blended and baked. I had to have something because once I nearly fell over where I went a bit wobbly. I used to sometimes feel like I was revving like a racing engine but I gained working time by not having lunch breaks and working straight through. I noticed I felt extremely fit and I had good muscle definition. I became very attached you could almost say addicted to filtered coffee. Extremely sadly, emotionally very hard to deal with my beautiful Daughter took her own life - non deliberate suicide-- at 16yr 2 months old with taking a massive overdose of her prescribed medicine. In Remembrance of her I still drink filtered coffee every day it reminds me of the good times my beautiful Daughter and I had together I used to take her to work with me it was safe we were in the middle of nowhere or Fields was sometimes people's gardens. I visit her garden every day, I have difficulty saying grave I call it her garden. I go to see her everyday without fail it has been 8 years 5 months 1 week 5 days. I lght 2 candles on her garden in small lanterns so the wind don't blow then out, although I can tell the way the wind is blowing through the trees there probably won't keep a light some days but I try anyway. The kindly doctor you came out to me, a day later I think after my Daughter went away. I was really really traumatised crying, beyond words what feels like. He was really good words and advice, he said when you're ready go to work, work is good, do whatever it is you need to do each day keep busy. I understood what he meant take your mind off things, not to think. Very often there was no one there I used to be crying at work every day. 1-year ago One day I know it's my heart was like missing a beat or the next one would be a very big beat. Concerned I went to the doctor's when they wired me up my heart was good my blood pressure was I though 167/ 85 when I mentioned The coffee thing I got up to 2 L A Day they stopped writing and said that that wouldn't help your BP. I completely stopped it's now 119 / 69 I have started drinking the coffee again but no more three quarters of a litre / 1 pint I have not come to terms with my daughter going I've just learnt to live each day💕💕 I apologise if this is too long comment but seem to help writing

Thanks a lot. Very good explanations.
I’m on intermittent fasting for years and learned a lot about autophagy.
I am trying to find out something I read lately :
Cancer cells can take sometimes advantage on autophagy and grow.
It’s a good conditions for them to renew also.
I know all the theories about starve cancer cell with sugar free diet ( and fasting).
Yet on many researches it is an issue.
What do you think?

Unfortunately, I didnt really get the part about the best time for women to fast. A dedicated video on women and fasting would be greatly appreciated. And adding period dates to the explanation (e.g. "If your period starts on the 20, the best time to fast would be ...".would help a lot.
Thanks in advance.

Hello doctor, thanks for the interesting video. I've been experimenting with intermittent fasting for close to a year now and for me it is the easiest way to be in a caloric deficit. I've some questions though and it would be great if you could weigh in:
1) if I'm intermittent fasting, but I still eat in a caloric surplus everyday, I still ended up gaining weight. Does this mean that being in a caloric deficit is the important part of fasting?
2) say we take 2 clones (same person/body/genetics etc) and have one of them on a traditional diet and the other on intermittent fasting with the total caloric deficit over the week being the same in both cases. Do you think we'd expect to see any difference in weight loss and autophagy levels?

I’m a active fasting 75 year old healthy male. 2 days is easy for me but I’ve done 4 days. I might fast to often but my body tells me to not fast or break an fast early. No problem, I’ll just make sure next time to be low carb and stay hydrated and keep up with minerals. Autophagy is why I do it. I don’t use or need any medication.PS. Ha ,I just noticed I left a similar message here a while ago.

I'm doing a prolonged fast, I'm on day 9. I didn't even realize until watching this video that the creaking in my knees is gone! My job requires me to go up, down, up, down, up, down a step stool all day long. Creaking knees was a constant thing! Now I just realized the last 2 times I've worked, my knees haven't made a sound, or had any stiffness whatsoever! Wow, this is making it totally worth it! After my fast I plan to do keto combined with intermittent fasting, as a regular lifestyle.

I've been raw vegan since July 2022. I am day 11 of a 24 day water only fast. I drink only water and it's alkaline spring water. I had no headaches but from about day four, till day 10, I had strong pains in my lower back, hips and upper rib area of my back. I also had an ache under my ribs on the left (pancreas, spleen) it finally went away today.

Very informative! I have been practicing IF & Keto for almost 2 years but still gather many new info from this video.
During IF, I drink black coffee or tea and this upsets the tummy. To avoid upset tummy, I take 20 gms of peanuts. Is there any alternative to avoid having upset tummy (as coffee or tea is what helps push thru IF)? TIA

I watch a lot of videos on various health topics. This one is very well produced and clear. Thanks for posting! I have a question though. I have been on a keto diet for 5 months. I've also been using a full body red light therapy panel daily for the past couple weeks. I've lost a little over 40 pounds. I'm in my 60s and am now at a weight (145) I haven't seen since I was 16. I've begun a 16/8 intermittent fasting cycle. My question is... Approximately how many hours of that 16 hour fast is autophagy occurring? And is it sufficient for a healthy long life, or do i really need to consider periodic long fasting a few times a year?

It's been found that we're better off finishing our meals 5 to 6 hours before we go to sleep. This gives the body enough time to draw out of the food all of the nutrients, then the body is able to fully focus on just healing and resting throughout the night.

Thank you for this information. Good stuff; very clear and sufficiently thorough. Could you do me the favor of answering some questions specific to my wife's situation regarding fasting and autophagy? No worries, if not, I understand you're busy or might otherwise not want to. Our family doctor is not a fan of fasting generally, so I'm afraid he isn't any help.
Some background: My wife suffers from chronic pain (some nerve damage in the cervical spine as well as fibromyalgia, which I know doesn't tell you much). She is on lots of medications--gabapentin for nerve pain, various opioids for pain management, and an anti-anxiety prescription (well, and prilosec for all the damage these other pills cause to her stomach).
Our concerns: We see the value of fasting both for the autophagy effects and for anti-inflammation benefits. However, many of her medications require that she eats with them. On one hand we think she would benefit from an extended fast, not eating or taking any pills, just suffering extremely severely for a few days and (hopefully) no longer need any of these pills once her body can heal itself a bit. On the other hand, it isn't like all of her problems came from poor diet (the instigator was a car accident). That suggests that she'll always need some of these pills for pain management. Maybe.
The questions: Without it qualifying as medical advice--just an expert's general thoughts on situations like this--first, do you think it is worth her trying an extended fast without any medication to see how it goes? Second, how might she incorporate even intermittent fasting into her life given she needs food with her pills and takes pills 3 or 4 times daily?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Thank you so much for the crisp and yet detailed explanation. I am doing Intermittent fasting since 3 months. My question to you is, which hour during a day is best to perform a strength training. Is it during a fasting window or during feasting window. I usually finish my dinner at around 8PM and take smoothie at 12pm the next day. Is it advisable to perform a strength training in the morning at 7am ? I am lean and want to put on some muscles also get benefit from the fasting

Great video. (Love the Doodle work). Question: My wife (56) is thin. She has Rheumatoid Arthritis and takes Humira and Methotrexate. These meds have kept her RA under control for years now. Unfortunately the RA did a lot of damage to her bones before the meds were prescribed when we lived in the US. She has never fasted and believes fasting could be dangerous. Could she benefit from intermittent fasting? Doctors here in Japan are very nervous about change, especially if something appears to be working. Thank you.

I m doing doing 18-20 hrs fasting since last week for my ulceritis proctitis inflamation and the results are amazing, may go on extend fasting 1-2 times a week depending upon the results.
Fasting has many benifits in lifestyle diseases if done properly
Reverses diabetes ,b.p
Heals inflamation n infections
Promotes anti ageing
Weight loss
Body toxic removal by repair and remove all damaged cells in body
Autoimmune and immune regulatuon
And most importanly even reduce or kill cancer cells
(But most important thing is do it under guidence for the dìabetes or obese people since it may elevate high fat loss and colestrol and low bile and than end up getting gallbladder colesterol stone or gallsmudge)

Thanks for a wonderful video! I have a few questions:
1. I am still not clear when autophagy is activated during fasting. After 12 hrs, 24 hrs, 36 hrs, etc of fasting? Is it necessary to be in ketosis (urine analysis ketone strips showing dark brown color) to have autophagy?
2. Also, how long should one stay in autophagy, once it is triggered, for optimal benefits? 24 hrs, 36 hrs, etc?
3. Does being in autophagy help reduce visceral fat (as oppose to subcutaneous fat)?
Thanks!

There are so many great Yoga exercises/poses! I think this is a great video that highlights many of the benefits of yoga. Yoga is not in itself sinful or demonic, as some comments want to suggest. If you like to drink beer and wine, as I do, it does not have to be a gateway to harder drugs/narcotics. In the same way, Yoga does not have to be a gateway to the occult and demonic worship. “Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31. I believe that if you are a Christian, you can do Yoga (with a good motive) and not be sinning. These are some really great exercises!

I really appreciate your clarity and presentation. While I know you can’t give me specific advice as I’m not your patient, perhaps you might outline what I can read up on. I’m a practicing chiropractor with a 6 month dx of kidney cancer in one kidney and cysts on both. I have protein urine and I have quite a bit of foam when I urinate. I’ve been managing the cancer with Ketogenic diet, and fasting, and I have lost a fair amount of weight. At 74 I’m interested in maintaining muscle mass and not slipping into sarcopenia, but I can’t take too much protein. Carbs are out because of the glucose and the cancer, so I’m eating a fair amount of fat. Any thoughts?

My inflammation was down in my arthritic fingers. 6 mos gone by fatigue and hurting again. I’m starting with 18:6 goal to get back to 20:4 IF. I’m 70. I foolishly listened to my ex doc when my body felt better. Thank you for this video.

I think some of the nuances of this process are still being discovered and refined. For example, many people say don't put cream in your coffee. But that doesn't make total sense since calorie restriction has been long known to increase lifespan -- as this vid mentions -- and that increase is driven by autophagy. Caloric restriction could be eating one-half or one-third your normal intake, so I have a hard time imagining that consuming 100 calories of cream, say, twice a day eliminates the autophagic process. I frequently do 2 to 3 day fasts and recently have extended it to 5 days. I've done two of those over the last month or so. Sometimes I do black coffee, sometimes with cream. Don't notice an energy level or weight loss difference. Both work great, so I consume cream.

In only a couple of weeks after eliminating sugar, carbohydrates, implementing OMAD with daily walks 3 to 6 miles I've dropped 15 lbs and only need 6 more to reach normal weight (bmi<24.9). I plan to keep this regimine, but may need to add fat and protein calories to stabilize my weight.

Dear Dr. Nambudripad, Thanks for your very informative video on autophagy. I had a pericardiocentesis three days ago. They conducted the procedure because of pericardial effusion probably due to lung infection or (hopefully not) lung cancer! Do you recommend that I fast at this time? I've been doing a 16-8 intermittent fasting for 8 months now. I would be extremely grateful to receive a reply from you.

This is great news as it explains why I have been so successful in eating my dinner at 4 pm than my next meal at noon the following day eating a regular meal composed mainly of fruits and vegetables. So two meals a day 4 hours apart with an intermittent fast of 18 hours between two consecutive days. I cannot do it all year as I would be loosing too much weight! I often swim or run between those two meals as I figured if I am using my muscles they will not be used as food as they are being used for something. Same thing about using my brain! 🤣🤣🤣
I am writing that comment just to let you know that it surely work for me this intermittent fasting. I do not eat processed food.

this was great and very helpful thank you Dr., my only question is, what if your one who for example eats a meal at roughly 6-7am on a monday and most usually wont eat another meal untill tomorrow(tuesday) at around roughly noonish or later, or possibly even that following day(wednesday) that they have their next meal, so given that this is their preferred eating schedule then would they need to or be it wiser to extend the time period in between meals to achieve a healthy and effective fast?, such great info Dr. and thank you again for reversing the clock instead of speed it up, much love and light :D

Hello Dr. Rajsree. Thank you for this very informative video. I have a question. Let's say I'm on the 20th hour of a fast on a keto diet. I'm trying to extend it to a 36 hour fast by drinking coffee with 4 to 6 tablespoon of coconut cream and Stevia. Will that stop autophagy OR will it stop then resume a few hours later?

I am 67 and on a 24 hour fasting for more than one and a half years, though I am not hard on myself lately, meaning at times I eat sweets and one and a half meal a day, but rarely at that.
I follow a vegetarian keto based on Ghee and coconut oil.
I believe I have staved off, most of the old age diseases
Any way I have eaten only twice a day for last 40 years before this. 😄

Is there a recommendation on the length of the fast and times you fast?
Right now, i'm doing a "monk fast" for 36 hours, and i'm doing it multiple times. Also, i'm working out, so I hope this "monk fast" won't harm my muscles (other youtube videos said a longer fast breaks the muscle).
Is it good to do it multiple times? Will it really not harm my muscels?

I havent lost weight but then again I lost 18 pounds through caloric reduction and reducing carbs as well before fasting. I've done five 24 hour water fasts in the past 5 weeks and do notice that I hit the wall right around that first missed meal, then I feel much better. One weird ting I get though is my tinnitus, which is always there in the background, gets REALLY LOUD. Good video. Very factual. I started fast number 6 tomorrow. I hope to heal a chronic cancer.

There is a risk of severe gout attacks when fasting for a time over 18 hours , especially changing your eating schedule frequently. I discovered this the hard way. I had the mother of all gout attacks. Watch your Uric acid levels and hydration while fasting.

As a Muslim in our religion we do dry fasting from sun rise to sun sit about 16 hour some time 18 or 19 hours.
1) binding 30 days dry fasting in year in Ramzan if you are healthy
2) their is voluntary fasting which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) use to do on Monday and Thursday so 2 days per week.
3)voluntry 10 days fasting before pilgrimage
4)voluntry 3 days on muharam
So a practicing Muslim should follow it but mostly people does not benefit from it because when they break fast they eat a lot and use high sugar soft drink. ..
Gernally it's command from our prophet that make 3 parts of your stomach
1 for food
2 for water
3 for air
So in days your are not fasting you should eat enough so that your hunger go down.overeating is discourage .A moderation is encourage in every part of life.
It's good to see that modern science also promote fasting. we feel really happy that every command from Allah has benefit for human being.
Very nice video full of information I was searching on autophagy but not getting full information in mostly videos..but this video help me a lot specially the presentation was very nice..
Thanks

Wow - what a JEWEL, watching my first video from Dr. Nambudripad after tons of other great videos, make this new subscription most welcome for gaining more colorful and understandable knowledge about various health topics - especially LCHF/IF.
I have a question related to using Activated Charcoal while IF: does it help with cleaning some unwanted/harmful/pathogenic bacteria in our gut and does it harm in any way our good portion of microbiome?

I hope more doctors in the coming future keep promoting this… snack companies and pharmaceuticals hit the “dislike” button here because if this were to take off… the loss they would take would be massive… money money money… 😪😞 I’m currently on hour 107 of a 168 hour fast (7days) and I feel great. I take water soluble sugar free electrolyte pills and have 1 cup of black coffee and 3-4 liters of water each day. Am currently 5’8 244 lbs and 38% fat… after this I will resume 18-6 fasts.. my problem is I have lost discipline in the past and go right back to binge eating 😢 but I’m hoping this 7 day fast will bring back my discipline PERMANENTLY.

There is no way I can mention to my doctor about fasting. most doctors just believe on medicine. my A1C was 8.5 and my blood glucose in the morning was 200. just a week later fasting 15 hours my fasting blood test is 134. in just a few days. the secret no carbs either.

Great info. Too bad there is annoying "music" throughout. I'm at 96 hours, wondering if I should break. Not hungry, but feeling listless. I could only do 3 miles on my bike this morning, I usually do 12-15. Cutting out carbs and doing 18/6 intermittent fasting I have lost 20# in two months.

I have tried intermittent fasting and experienced good things, however, I noticed irregular bowel movements and constipation. What is the reason for this? I have read a lot about how fasting is not good for menstruating women because it can mess up hormones. What are your thoughts?

I fast mostly for 18 hours but sometimes I’ll only eat once a day, if I do 3 x 24 hours fasts in a row I lose a lot of weight fast, not desired as I don’t need to lose weight, I eat like a king and although I miss dirty food I do have it every so often but then I realise I don’t like it as much as I thought I did. I’ve recently spent 8 weeks not drinking alcohol and this I find hard, I love beer, whiskey and wine. I don’t get drunk I just like the taste, this is my weakness.

Six days from today it will be 2 years since I started doing keto. It's not a super strict keto, but I don't eat any refined flours. So no breads, bagels, pancakes, cereals the list is long. No sugar or sugar filled products. So no dressing on salads they all contain all kinds of sugars . I do OMAD fecundly, but generally I fast 18 to 20 hours every day. I eat meats, fish, pork, chicken, sardines, eggs, butter berries, full fat yogurt , hard cheeses and drink coffee and water. I'm 71 and I reduced my weight from 140 to 118. It fluctuates a little. A1c is at 5.6, blood sugar is between 85 and 95 on any given day. I feel fantastic! I don't take any medicines and don't need them. People treat you like you are a weirdo so I don't take to much about what I do. My calcium score i zero and the cardiologist wanted to put me on statins! I walked out of his office and never went back. When you say talk to your doctor, well that's all well and good but most doctors don't know anything that you explained in your video and they don't care. They want you to take drugs. It's sad that we have to resort to searching doctors on you tube, like yourself and many others, so we can get valuable information on how to eat and improve our health. I'm a believer that fasting IS beneficial, that pushing your body into autophagy is also beneficial and changing your diet is literally life changing. Your video is really really good.

Hello Dr Nambudripad,
Are you the doctor who created the NAET “Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique” ?
I also wonder , when we activate Autophagy , do we focus on eliminating protein or carbs or fat ?
Many nutritionist say that we want to recycle the protein and damaged DNA at the most, so a bullet proof coffee with butter is still considered fasting without getting hungry. What is your opinion on that?
Thanks for a great illustration.

Pinch of salt will stop or reduce the hunger.
Be aware that you are going to be hungry when you usually eat.
Plan to be busy at those times and you won’t notice or it will be lessened.

If Kevin also stopped eating carbs and maybe stopped with the seed oils then it's hard to tell how much benefit came from the fasting.
I'm pretty sure he cut out the carbs to get that drop in the triglycerides.

After losing a lot of weight I have excess folds of loose skin (stomach area, back of arms , back of legs ). Is there a way (diet wise) to reverse this? Or am I stuck with it and only resort is removal via plastic surgery?

Thank you Doctor. I am a regular viewer of your videos. I would like to ask you one doubt. My wife aged 65 has been suffering from a particular disease. She lost her taste, especially sweet, for the last 6months. She has been taking homeo medicines. But it is of no use. She has also loose motion three times a day. Is there any remedy for this. Please let me know

Thanks, been researching coffee lately & u just added 1 more benefit for weight management. Started this bc I noticed that the French don't get fat. I noticed they always drink coffee after their meal.

I feel great when I fast. I do 18:6 every day. I do cold brew bullet proof coffee, take b vitamins and magnesium. But when I get to 24 hours I feel weak and get a head ache. I would like to be one of these 3 day fast people and do it quarterly. Any ideas?

I can do 16-hour fasts quite comfortably. However, going beyond that period leads to hyperacidity. Should I use a PPI such as Dexlansoprazole to control excessive acid build-up?

At what stage or hour mark during a 16:8 fast will Autophagy begin to occur? My research online has revealed different answers, so would be great to get some clarification on exactly when it's happening.
