fields of American agriculture where Farmers grow and 0:13 harvest millions of tons of crops every 0:19 year Welcome to California where celery is grown year round the celery Fields 0:25 stretch out like a vibrant green sea with rows of celery plants Standing Tall 0:30 and robust creating a lively and fresh landscape early in the morning as the 0:37 sunrises American farmers start their workday they wear wide brimmed hats 0:42 button-up shirts and carry harvesting tools they begin at one end of the field 0:48 and the crew responsible for cutting and packing moves gradually towards the other end the farmers cut the entire 0:55 celery plant including the roots and the top portion 1:00 you might notice something interesting the cutting tool also serves as a measure it is designed based on standard 1:08 dimensions so that celery can be packed into nylon bags or plastic crates 1:13 prepared in advance Farmers plant celery in careful rows creating a harmonious and tidy 1:22 image the care and dedication of the farmers are evident as they tend to the field step by step including the 1:29 harvesting process each Harvest is not just labor but also the fruition of 1:35 their investment in the land the celery cutting process is Swift 1:40 and precise afterward they load the celery onto a vehicle for processing by 1:46 packing workers here the celery is rinsed with water to remove any 1:51 dirt the harvesting crew Works diligently to produce quality crates of 1:56 celery it may be timec consuming but they need to remove damaged celery before it goes into the 2:03 crates another group of workers is responsible for loading these crates onto 2:09 trucks once the trucks are filled with crates they are transported to a central facility for final processing before 2:16 being distributed to the market such as supermarkets or local 2:23 markets in the full harvest season Vineyards spread across the American 2:28 Countryside creating captivating and diverse landscape in The Vineyards of central 2:34 California the Deep green grape leaves provide an ideal backdrop for these ripe 2:39 purple grapes that cover the entire Vineyard farmers are getting ready to harvest the first bnch of grapes of the 2:47 season from the early days of the growing season grape Vines are carefully tended to when it's time for Harvest 2:55 Farmers continue to inspect each grape cluster to determine r Ness and 3:01 quality you can see that right after cutting the grapes they remove any damaged ones from the cluster this 3:08 process takes time compared to continuous harvesting but it helps prevent damaged grapes from affecting 3:14 the others in the cluster during the packing stage grapes are sorted once again they are removing 3:21 small or discolored grapes all these steps are done quickly and accurately to 3:27 ensure that the pack grapes are uniform in size visually appealing and 3:33 fresh these grape crates are prepositioned under the vines and then a vehicle comes to collect them this way 3:41 Farmers save time moving back and forth and can focus on harvesting 3:47 grapes compared to some other fruits grape harvesting is a more Technical and 3:52 delicate process Additionally the Deep knowledge of grapes held by American 3:57 farmers contributes to the quality and distinctive Taste of American grapes highly sought after in the 4:05 [Music] market next we move on to a Citrus Grove in Florida the citrus trees Stand Tall 4:13 each branch bearing clusters of ripe oranges creating a magnificent and 4:18 vibrant scene of strength and freshness you can see the dark green leaves of the trees covering the juicy 4:25 oranges when 90% of the Grove is covered in Orange along with the aroma filling 4:31 the air it's a sign that they are ready to be harvested early in the morning Farmers 4:37 step into the Orange Grove with enthusiasm and passion they wear some protective clothing and carry large 4:44 baskets to hold the first oranges of the Season instead of rushing to pick them 4:51 the farmers first check each orange to ensure they are ripe and of high quality 4:57 then they gently cut each Orange from the tree and arrange them in bags when 5:02 the bags are full Farmers pull them into crates handling them carefully to avoid 5:07 damaging the fruit ladders are valuable tools for citrus Harvesters they use them to reach 5:14 high up oranges like this when the bags are full and heavy 5:20 they start climbing down slowly everything is done meticulously by experienced fruit Pickers as the height 5:27 and weight of oranges can lead to inj juries under the scorching Sun Farmers 5:33 work with love for their Groves hoping that each orange will carry the quality and flavor of American soil providing 5:41 consumers with wonderful experiences farewell to the Citrus 5:48 Groves we now move on to a type of manually harvested crop these vibrant 5:54 red apple orchards are a vital part of American agriculture growing vigorously 5:59 in States like Washington New York Michigan and the Appalachian regions the timing of apple harvest 6:06 depends on the apple variety and the specific climate conditions of each region Farmers often determine the 6:14 ripeness of the apples to decide when to harvest similar to the Citrus Harvest 6:20 they use ladders to pick apples from tall trees Farmers start harvesting from 6:26 one end of the apple orchard and work their way through to to the other end when the apples fill the truck they 6:33 transport them to a storage facility for sorting and 6:38 preservation harvesting apples from tall trees is not an easy task but 6:43 experienced Harvesters manage it well you can see the careful balance endurance and skill that farmers 6:52 employ at this Farm Farmers work diligently to complete the Harvest before it's too late each each day they 7:00 harvest around 15 to 30 bags like these after filling the bags Farmers gently 7:06 pour the apples out they also remove any branches and leaves from the 7:12 crates Farmers sort and Grate the apples by size and quality right in the 7:18 orchard after harvesting apples are carefully packaged to ensure the fruit 7:23 remains undamaged Farmers need to perform each step quickly and accurately to preserve 7:29 the quality of the apples now we say goodbye to the apple 7:36 orchards and move on to a potato farm in North Dakota here farmers are preparing 7:41 Seed Potatoes for planting while manual planting and harvesting like this still happen on 7:48 smaller Farms larger scale operations producing hundreds of tons each year 7:54 require the help of Machinery giant machines are moving across the vast potato fields of inaho 8:01 known as the potato state of America these machines replace human 8:06 labor from planting seed potatoes to harvesting and transportation resulting 8:12 in highly efficient work the utilization of modern technology in agriculture is the 8:18 strength of American farmers why do I say that take a look at this intelligent 8:25 machine it is rolling up the potato vines after separating the potato tubers 8:31 from the plants the harvesting machine immediately drops them back onto the field everything happens within seconds 8:38 and of course it takes only a short time to harvest the entire field this is something humans cannot 8:46 achieve moreover with Machinery harvesting at night like this poses no 8:52 significant challenge to get these attractive potato vines on the conveyor like this Farmers 8:59 need to wake up early and start working on these enormous machines they move 9:05 across the fields with the hope that no potatoes are left in the ground this 9:10 truck helps Farmers transport the potatoes to storage facilities or processing 9:17 centers after returning to the storage workers will gather the remaining potato vines once more to ensure the potatoes 9:24 are completely dry and clean this helps prolong the pr conservation 9:30 process finally the potatoes will be transported to processing points and be 9:35 ready to be brought to the market hello my friends in today's video 9:43 we'll visit America's farmlands to discover how millions of farmers Harvest millions of pounds of 9:50 produce the strawberry industry in the US is developing 9:56 spectacularly so it is not surprising ing that it is of interest to many 10:02 farmers approximately 60,000 acres in the United States are planted and 10:08 harvested for strawberries California is responsible 10:15 for more than 75% of us strawberry production with production of about 1 billion per 10:23 year there's nothing better than enjoying fresh picked strawberries on a warm spring day if you love this 10:31 succulent fruit please comment to us to let us know what you 10:36 think these Strawberry Fields can average up to 46,000 each 10:44 year early in the morning workers here will gather to prepare to pick 10:50 strawberries their equipment includes a cart cartons and plastic boxes to help 10:57 store strawberries after filling the strawberries they will bring the curtain to the Gathering Place 11:04 for the garden owner to inspect strawberry picking workers must 11:11 follow the Harvest schedule every 1 to 2 days they will be instructed to pick 11:17 properly to avoid injuring the strawberries the workers move along the 11:23 paths between the fors when picking farmers will leave a 11:29 green stem at the top of the fruit this prevents unnecessary bruising or damage 11:36 that could cause the fruit to spoil later in addition to strawberries 11:43 carrots are also crops grown and transported year round in California 11:48 with four main production regions California produces more than 11:55 85% of all carrots grown in the US Michigan and Texas are the other 12:02 important carrot producing states according to the US Department of 12:08 Agriculture in recent years carrots ranked 17th in California's top 20 12:14 livock and crop Commodities worth about $500 12:21 million carrots are usually ready to harvest about 90 days after sewing the 12:27 seeds they are harvested when the roots are a good size and still 12:32 tender carrots can also be stored underground during winter months however 12:38 if carrots are left in the soil for too long they can become overripe hard and 12:45 possibly this is a Farmer's Machine in the harvesting season the Harvester 12:51 loosens the soil then gently pulls the carrots out of the ground the blades cut the tops of the 12:58 carrots as they move inside the machine the tops are discarded to the back of 13:03 the machine while the carrots move on a conveyor belt and are dumped into 13:08 trucks these carrots will be treated in water to remove sand and soil and then 13:14 go through cleaning and a packaging process the farmer gently lifts The 13:21 Roots out of the ground after cutting off the tops the carrots can be stored 13:26 with the remaining soil on them or washed allowed to dry briefly before 13:31 storing usually when harvesting by hand farmers will choose cool days to avoid 13:38 the roots from overheating in the sun more than half of the sugar in the 13:45 US comes from sugar beets this is a plant grown on farms 13:51 across the country but have you ever wondered how the Journey of harvesting sugar beets takes place before it 13:58 appears in your meals the period when sugar beets are harvested usually begins in September 14:06 and last until May of the following year after harvesting the finished sugar 14:12 beets will be transported to the processing Factory Here people begin the process of 14:19 turning sugar beets into refined sugar like 14:24 this during Peak harvest season sugar beat F factories operate 24 hours a day 14:31 for processing and production harvesting machines begin 14:37 cutting off the leaves of sugar beets next the farmer uses a separate tractor 14:43 to lift the sugar beets out of the ground and pick them up they are then cleaned to remove sand and other 14:50 impurities before being put into the tank the sugar beats are then loaded 14:57 onto the platform of the truck next door they work in Tandem and this is 15:02 considered the perfect duo in the harvest season Fields once harvested the beat pile is 15:10 constantly monitored to ensure it stays cool and stable before being processed 15:17 some beets will sit in a pile like this for nearly 5 months so it's important 15:23 that temperatures don't change too drastically during the winter this could 15:29 cause the beets to spoil asparagus is usually planted in 15:34 May so it is ready to develop before winter whether grown as a stem or 15:42 transplanted asparagus is grown by farmers in beds about 8 in 15:48 deep asparagus Harvest usually begins in early may but depending on the weather 15:54 it can begin in April the asparagus Harvest lasts from 6 16:00 to 8 weeks during which time Farmers must Harvest every 16:06 day before working they will check the tool and sharpen it the machine runs 16:12 continuously so these workers must be very agile and precise in warm weather asparagus grows 16:20 quickly up to 10 in tall within 24 hours during this period the pickers 16:28 have to go through the fields twice a day to pick because harvesting asparagus 16:33 greater than 12 in in length will reduce the total Harvest over the growing 16:39 period unlike other agricultural products farmers will not harvest 16:45 asparagus in the first or second year this is because plants need time to 16:51 develop roots in the third year when the asparagus beds have fully developed 16:57 Farms will then and begin harvesting next we will go to the Almond 17:04 Fields almonds are warm weather trees and produce best in areas with long hot 17:09 dry and sunny Summers the Alid harvest season is 17:15 usually from early August to late September time may vary depending on 17:21 variety you can see the first cracks appear in the seeds at the top of the tree and gradually spread down downwards 17:29 when approximately 95% of the seed shells are observed to be 17:35 broken it is a signal that farmers can begin 17:40 harvesting when it's time to harvest the almonds tree vibrators go around the 17:46 Orchard and shake the nuts off the trees like this at this time the seeds will 17:52 lie in the ground after 7 to 10 days of drying the Almond seeds are swept into 17:58 into neat rows using a specialized scanner finally the almonds are dumped 18:05 onto the truck today some improved machines allow 18:12 Farmers to harvest immediately specifically when shaking the tree this machine has a device to 18:19 catch all of the falling seeds like this and this helps to reduce Harvest 18:26 loss almost every Orchard goes through this cycle two to three times because 18:33 different varieties are picked at different times additionally around this 18:39 time the tree begins to gather what it needs for next year's crop therefore 18:45 farmers will pay special attention to the needs of trees to ensure the quality 18:51 of future crops the majority of the country's 18:57 Citrus grows in three states California Arizona and 19:04 Texas California Farmers leads Citrus production supplying about 60% of the 19:11 Citrus grown in the US harvesting Citrus requires a gentle 19:18 touch you can see the fruit being harvested by hand to protect the next 19:24 crop at the same time make sure the peel is not bruised or damaged manual Harvest 19:31 requires a team of skilled Harvest 19:37 workers these workers work on One Tree at a time harvesting each ripe fruit on 19:43 each tree before moving on to the next on average it takes about 1 to 2 hours 19:50 to harvest a whole box of citrus once the bins are filled with 19:57 freshly harvested Citrus they are immediately loaded onto trucks and 20:02 transported to the production facility here the Citrus is washed sized 20:09 and packaged Citrus are often packaged in bags or boxes before being shipped to 20:16 the local grocery store our final destination today is the 20:23 sweet corn field sweet corn is an annual crop 20:29 the warmer the air the faster the sweet corn will cook it usually ripens about 20:35 15 to 23 days after trimming the beard or even sooner if the temperatures 20:42 are especially High when the corn silk turns brown like 20:48 this the kernels are plump and milky white and this means they are ready to 20:54 be harvested in some states the majority of 21:00 sweet corn is harvested by hand because this method allows Farmers to better 21:05 select corn kernels for Market sorting by quality in the field 21:12 also saves sorting time in the packaging plant this means that the product can 21:18 move to the cooling packaging and storage steps faster sweet corn is harvested 21:25 mechanically the stalks will be cut by the Harvester like this then the stems and leaves will be 21:33 removed right on the Harvester and the finished sweet corn is transferred via 21:40 truck after harvesting the sweetness decreases rapidly before the sugar in 21:45 the grain is converted into starch Harvest temperatures and storage 21:51 temperatures of sweet corn have a significant influence on the 21:56 quality there therefore American farmers often harvest sweet corn in the early 22:02 morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cool to help refrigerate and maintain 22:11 [Music] quality hello my friends did you know that behind the green curtain of fields 22:18 and Orchards lies the effort of farmers who provide food for millions of people 22:24 right Orchard and 40:03 shake the nuts off the trees like this at this time the seeds will lie in the 40:09 ground after 7 to 10 days of drying the Almond seeds are swept into neat rows 40:15 using a specialized scanner finally the alond are dumped 40:21 onto the truck today some improve machines allow 40:27 Farmers to harvest immediately specifically when shaking the tree this machine has a device to 40:35 catch all of the falling seeds like this and this helps to reduce Harvest 40:42 loss almost every Orchard goes through this cycle two to three times because 40:49 different varieties are picked at different times additionally around this 40:54 time the tree begins to gather what it needs for next year's crop therefore 41:01 farmers will pay special attention to the needs of trees to ensure the quality 41:07 of future crops the majority of the country's 41:12 Citrus grows in three states California Arizona and 41:19 Texas California Farmers lead Citrus production supplying about 60% of the 41:26 Citrus grown in the US harvesting Citrus requires a gentle 41:34 touch you can see the fruit being harvested by hand to protect the next 41:39 crop at the same time make sure the peel is not bruised or damaged manual Harvest 41:47 requires a team of skilled Harvest 41:52 workers these workers work on One Tree at a time time harvesting each ripe 41:58 fruit on each tree before moving on to the next on average it takes about 1 to 42:05 2 hours to harvest a whole box of 42:10 citrus once the bins are filled with freshly harvested Citrus they are 42:15 immediately loaded onto trucks and transported to the production 42:21 facility here the Citrus is washed sized and packaged 42:27 Citrus are often packaged in bags or boxes before being shipped to the local 42:32 grocery store our final destination today is the 42:39 sweet corn field sweet corn is an annual crop the warmer the air the faster the 42:47 sweet corn will cook it usually ripens about 15 to 23 days after trimming the 42:55 beard or even sooner if the temperatures are especially 43:01 High when the corn silk turns brown like this the kernels are plump and milky 43:07 white and this means they are ready to be 43:13 harvested in some states the majority of sweet corn is harvested by hand because 43:19 this method allows Farmers to better select corn kernels for 43:24 market so in by quality in the field also saves sorting time in the packaging 43:31 plant this means that the product can move to the cooling packaging and 43:36 storage steps faster sweet corn is harvested mechanically the stalks will be cut by 43:44 the Harvester like this then the stems and leaves will be 43:49 removed right on the Harvester and the finished sweet corn is transferred via 43:55 truck after harvesting the sweetness decreases 44:00 rapidly before the sugar in the grain is converted into starch Harvest temperatures and storage 44:07 temperatures of sweet corn have a significant influence on the 44:12 quality therefore American farmers often harvest sweet corn in the early morning 44:18 or late afternoon when temperatures are cool to help refrigerate and maintain 44:25 quality [Music] 44:30 hello my friends did you know that behind the green curtain of fields and Orchards lies the effort of farmers who 44:37 provide food for millions of people right now we will explore the fields of 44:42 American agriculture where Farmers grow and harvest millions of tons of crops 44:47 every year Welcome to California where cery is 44:54 grown year round the celery Fields stretch out like a vibrant green sea 44:59 with rows of celery plants Standing Tall and robust creating a lively and fresh 45:06 landscape early in the morning as the sun rises American farmers start their 45:11 workday they wear wide brimmed hats button-up shirts and carry harvesting 45:17 tools they begin at one end of the field and the crew responsible for cutting and 45:22 packing moves gradually towards the other end the farmers cut the entire celery plant including the roots and the 45:30 top portion you might notice something interesting the cutting tool also serves 45:37 as a measure it is designed based on standard dimensions so that celery can 45:42 be packed into nylon bags or plastic crates prepared in advance Farmers plant celery in careful 45:49 Rose creating a harmonious and tidy image the care and dedic ation of the 45:56 farmers are evident as they tend to the field step by step including the harvesting process each Harvest is not 46:04 just labor but also the fruition of their investment in the land the celery cutting process is Swift 46:12 and precise afterward they load the celery onto a vehicle for processing by 46:17 packing workers here the celery is rinsed with water to remove any 46:23 dirt the harvesting crew Works diligently ly to produce quality crates of celery it may be time consuming but 46:31 they need to remove damaged celery before it goes into the crates another group of workers is 46:37 responsible for loading these crates onto trucks once the trucks are filled with 46:43 crates they are transported to a central facility for final processing before being distributed to the market such as 46:50 supermarkets or local markets in in the full harvest season 46:57 Vineyards spread across the American Countryside creating a captivating and 47:02 diverse landscape in The Vineyards of central California the Deep green grape leaves 47:09 provide an ideal backdrop for these ripe purple grapes that cover the entire 47:14 Vineyard farmers are getting ready to harvest the first batch of grapes of the 47:19 season from the early days of the growing season grape Vines are carefully tended to when it's time for Harvest 47:27 Farmers continue to inspect each grape cluster to determine ripeness and 47:32 quality you can see that right after cutting the grapes they remove any damaged ones from the cluster this 47:40 process takes time compared to continuous harvesting but it helps prevent damaged grapes from affecting 47:46 the others in the cluster during the packing stage grapes are sorted once again they are removing 47:53 small or discolored grapes all these steps are done quickly and accurately to 47:59 ensure that the pack grapes are uniform in size visually appealing and 48:05 fresh these grape crates are pre-positioned under the vines and then a vehicle comes to collect them this way 48:13 Farmers save time moving back and forth and can focus on harvesting 48:18 grapes compared to some other fruits grape harvesting is a more Technical and 48:24 delicate process Additionally the Deep knowledge of grapes held by American 48:29 farmers contributes to the quality and distinctive Taste of American grapes highly sought after in the 48:36 [Music] market next we move on to a Citrus Grove in Florida the citrus trees Stand Tall 48:44 each branch bearing clusters of ripe oranges creating a magnificent and 48:49 vibrant scene of strength and freshness you can see the dark green leaves of the tree trees covering the 48:56 juicy oranges when 90% of the Grove is covered in Orange along with the aroma filling 49:03 the air it's a sign that they are ready to be harvested early in the morning Farmers 49:09 step into the Orange Grove with enthusiasm and passion they wear some protective clothing and carry large 49:16 baskets to hold the first oranges of the Season instead of rushing to pick them 49:22 the farmers first check each orange to ensure sure they are ripe and of high quality then they gently cut each Orange 49:30 from the tree and arrange them in bags when the bags are full Farmers pull them 49:36 into crates handling them carefully to avoid damaging the fruit ladders are valuable tools for 49:43 citrus Harvesters they use them to reach high up oranges like 49:48 this when the bags are full and heavy they start climbing down slowly 49:54 everything is done metic meticulously by experienc fruit Pickers as the height and weight of oranges can lead to 50:01 injuries under the scorching Sun Farmers work with love for their Groves hoping 50:07 that each orange will carry the quality and flavor of American soil providing 50:12 consumers with wonderful experiences farewell to the Citrus 50:19 Groves we now move on to a type of manually harvested crop these vibrant 50:25 red apple orchards are a vital part of American agriculture growing vigorously 50:31 in States like Washington New York Michigan and the Appalachian regions the timing of apple harvest 50:38 depends on the apple variety and the specific climate conditions of each region Farmers often determine the 50:45 ripeness of the apples to decide when to harvest similar to the Citrus Harvest 50:52 they use ladders to pick apples from tall trees Farmers start harvesting from one end of 50:58 the apple orchard and work their way through to the other end when the apples fill the truck they transport them to a 51:05 storage facility for sorting and preservation harvesting apples from tall 51:12 trees is not an easy task but experienced Harvesters manage it well 51:18 you can see the careful balance endurance and skill that farmers 51:24 employ at this Farm Farmers work diligently to complete the Harvest before it's too late each day they 51:31 harvest around 15 to 30 bags like these after filling the bags Farmers gently 51:38 pour the apples out they also remove any branches and leaves from the 51:43 crates Farmers sort and Grate the apples by size and quality right in the 51:49 orchard after harvesting apples are carefully packaged to ensure the fruit remains under 51:55 damaged Farmers need to perform each step quickly and accurately to preserve 52:01 the quality of the apples now we say goodbye to the apple 52:07 orchards and move on to a potato farm in North Dakota here farmers are preparing 52:13 Seed Potatoes for planting while manual planting and harvesting like this still happen on 52:20 smaller Farms larger scale operations producing hundreds of tons each year 52:25 here require the help of Machinery giant machines are moving across the vast potato fields of Idaho 52:33 known as the potato state of America these machines replace human 52:38 labor from planting seed potatoes to harvesting and transportation resulting 52:43 in highly efficient work the utilization of modern technology in agriculture is the 52:50 strength of American farmers why do I say that take a look at this intelligent 52:56 machine it is rolling up the potato vines after separating the potato tubis 53:02 from the plants the harvesting machine immediately drops them back onto the field everything happens within seconds 53:10 and of course it takes only a short time to harvest the entire field this is something humans cannot 53:18 achieve moreover with Machinery harvesting at night like this poses no 53:23 significant challenge to get these attractive potato vines on 53:29 the conveyor like this farmers need to wake up early and start working on these 53:35 enormous machines they move across the fields with the hope that no potatoes are left in the ground this truck helps 53:43 Farmers transport the potatoes to storage facilities or processing 53:49 centers after returning to the storage workers will gather the remaining potato vines once more to ensure the potatoes 53:56 are completely dry and clean this helps prolong the preservation 54:02 process finally the potatoes will be transported to processing points and be 54:07 ready to be brought to the market hello my friends in today's video 54:15 we'll visit America's farmlands to discover how millions of farmers Harvest millions of pounds of 54:22 produce the strawberry industry in the US is developing 54:28 spectacularly so it is not surprising that it is of interest to many 54:34 farmers approximately 60,000 acres in the United States are planted and 54:40 harvested for strawberries California is responsible 54:47 for more than 75% of us strawberry production with production of about1 billion per year 54:55 here there's nothing better than enjoying fresh picked strawberries on a warm spring day if you love this 55:03 succulent fruit please comment to us to let us know what you 55:08 think these Strawberry Fields can average up to 46,000 each 55:16 year early in the morning workers here will gather to prepare to pick 55:22 strawberries their equipment includes a cart cartons and plastic boxes to help 55:29 store strawberries after filling the strawberries they will bring the cartons 55:34 to the Gathering Place for the garden owner to 55:40 inspect strawberry picking workers must follow the Harvest schedule every 1 to 2 55:46 days they will be instructed to pick properly to avoid injuring the 55:52 strawberries the workers move along the path between the 55:58 fors when picking farmers will leave a green stem at the top of the fruit this 56:04 prevents unnecessary bruising or damage that could cause the fruit to spoil 56:11 later in addition to strawberries carrots are also crops grown and 56:17 transported year round in California with four main production 56:23 regions Califor produces more than 85% of all carrots grown in the US 56:31 Michigan and Texas are the other important carrot producing 56:37 states according to the US Department of Agriculture in recent years carrots 56:43 ranked 17th in California's top 20 livestock and crop Commodities worth 56:50 about $500 million carrots are usually usually 56:55 ready to harvest about 990 days after sewing the seeds they are harvested when the roots 57:01 are a good size and still tender carrots can also be stored 57:06 underground during winter months however if carrots are left in the soil for too 57:12 long they can become overripe hard and possibly this is a farmers machine in 57:20 the harvesting season the Harvester loosens the soil then gently pulls the carrots out of the 57:27 ground the blades cut the tops of the carrots as they move inside the machine 57:33 the tops are discarded to the back of the machine while the carrots move on a conveyor belt and are dumped into 57:40 trucks these carrots will be treated in water to remove sand and soil and then 57:46 go through cleaning and a packaging process the farmer gently lifts The 57:52 Roots out of the ground after cutting off the tops the carrots can be stored 57:58 with the remaining soil on them or washed and allowed to dry briefly before 58:03 storing usually when harvesting by hand farmers will choose cool days to avoid 58:09 the roots from overheating in the sun more than half of the sugar in the 58:17 US comes from sugar beets this is a plant grown on farms 58:22 across the country but have you ever wondered how the Journey of harvesting sugar beets takes place before it 58:30 appears in your meals the period when sugar beets are harvested usually begins in September 58:38 and lasts until May of the following year after harvesting the finished sugar 58:44 beets will be transported to the processing Factory Here people begin the process of 58:51 turning sugar beets into refined sugar like this 58:57 during Peak harvest season sugar beat factories operate 24 hours a day for 59:03 processing and production harvesting machines begin 59:09 cutting off the leaves of sugar beets next the farmer uses a separate tractor 59:14 to lift the sugar beets out of the ground and pick them up they are then 59:20 cleaned to remove sand and other impurities before being put into the the 59:25 tank the sugar beats are then loaded onto the platform of the truck next door 59:32 they work in Tandem and this is considered the perfect duo in the harvest season 59:38 Fields once harvested the beat pile is constantly monitored to ensure it stays 59:45 cool and stable before being processed some beats will sit in a pile like this 59:51 for nearly 5 months so if it's important that temperatures don't change too 59:57 drastically during the winter this could cause the Beats to 1:00:03 spoil asparagus is usually planted in May so it is ready to develop before 1:00:10 winter whether grown as a stem or transplanted asparagus is grown by 1:00:16 farmers in beds about 8 in deep asparagus Harvest usually begins in 1:00:23 early may but depending on the weather it can begin in April the asparagus Harvest lasts from 6 1:00:31 to 8 weeks during which time Farmers must Harvest every 1:00:37 day before working they will check the tool and sharpen it the machine runs 1:00:44 continuously so these workers must be very agile and precise in warm weather asparagus grows 1:00:52 quickly up to 10 in tall tall within 24 hours during this period the pickers 1:01:00 have to go through the fields twice a day to pick because harvesting asparagus 1:01:05 greater than 12 in in length will reduce the total Harvest over the growing 1:01:11 period unlike other agricultural products farmers will not harvest 1:01:16 asparagus in the first or second year this is because plants need time to 1:01:23 develop roots in the third year when the asparagus beds have fully developed 1:01:29 Farms will then begin harvesting next we will go to the Almond 1:01:35 Fields almonds are warm weather trees and produce best in areas with long hot 1:01:41 dry and sunny Summers the alond harvest season is 1:01:46 usually from early August to late September time may vary depending on 1:01:53 variety you can you can see the first cracks appear in the seeds at the top of the tree and gradually spread downwards 1:02:01 when approximately 95% of the seed shells are observed to be 1:02:06 broken it is a signal that farmers can begin 1:02:12 harvesting when it's time to harvest the almonds tree vibrators go around the 1:02:18 Orchard and shake the nuts off the trees like this at this time the seeds will 1:02:23 lie in the ground after 7 to 10 days of drying the Almond seeds are swept into 1:02:30 neat rows using a specialized scanner finally the almonds are dumped 1:02:37 onto the truck today some improved machines allow 1:02:43 Farmers to harvest immediately specifically when shaking the tree this machine has a device to 1:02:51 catch all of the falling seeds like this and this helps to reduce Harvest 1:02:58 loss almost every Orchard goes through this cycle two to three times because 1:03:05 different varieties are picked at different times additionally around this 1:03:10 time the tree begins to gather what it needs for next year's citr 1:04:27 once the bins are filled with freshly harvested Citrus they are immediately 1:04:32 loaded onto trucks and transported to the production facility here the Citrus is washed sized 1:04:41 and packaged Citrus are often packaged in bags or boxes before being shipped to 1:04:47 the local grocery store our final destination today today 1:04:54 is the sweet corn field sweet corn is an annual 1:04:59 crop the warm of the air the faster the sweet corn will cook it usually ripens 1:05:06 about 15 to 23 days after trimming the beard or even sooner if the temperatures 1:05:14 are the roots are a good size and still 1:19:20 tender carrots can also be stored underground during winter months however 1:19:26 if carrots are left in the soil for too long they can become overripe hard and 1:19:33 possibly this is a Farmer's Machine in the harvesting season the Harvester 1:19:39 loosens the soil then gently pulls the carrots out of the ground the blades cut the tops of the 1:19:45 carrots as they move inside the machine the tops are discarded to the back of 1:19:51 the machine while the carrots move move on a conveyor belt and are dumped into 1:19:56 trucks these carrots will be treated in water to remove sand and soil and then 1:20:02 go through cleaning and a packaging process the farmer gently lifts The 1:20:08 Roots out of the ground after cutting off the tops the carrots can be stored 1:20:13 with the remaining soil on them or washed and allowed to dry briefly before 1:20:19 storing usually when harvesting by hand farmers will choose cool days to avoid 1:20:25 the roots from overheating in the sun more than half of the sugar in the 1:20:33 US comes from sugar beets this is a plant grown on farms 1:20:38 across the country but have you ever wondered how the Journey of harvesting sugar beets takes place before it 1:20:46 appears in your meals the period when sugar beets are harvested usually begins in September 1:20:53 and lasts until May of the following year after harvesting the finished sugar 1:21:00 beets will be transported to the processing Factory Here people begin the process of 1:21:07 turning sugar beets into refined sugar like 1:21:12 this during Peak harvest season sugar beat factories operate 24 hours a day 1:21:18 for processing and production harvesting machines begin cutting off 1:21:25 the leaves of sugar beads next the farmer uses a separate tractor to lift 1:21:31 the sugar beets out of the ground and pick them up they are then cleaned to 1:21:36 remove sand and other impurities before being put into the 1:21:41 tank the sugar beats are then loaded onto the platform of the truck next door 1:21:47 they work in Tandem and this is considered the perfect duo in the har the seasoned 1:21:54 Fields once harvested the beat pile is constantly monitored to ensure it stays 1:22:00 cool and stable before being processed some beets will sit in a pile like this 1:22:07 for nearly 5 months so it's important that temperatures don't change too 1:22:13 drastically during the winter this could cause the Beats to 1:22:18 spoil asparagus is usually planted in May so that it is ready to develop 1:22:24 before winter whether grown as a stem or transplanted asparagus is grown by 1:22:32 farmers in beds about 8 in deep asparagus Harvest usually begins in 1:22:38 early may but depending on the weather it can begin in April the asparagus Harvest lasts from 6 1:22:47 to 8 weeks during which time Farmers must Harvest every every 1:22:53 day before working they will check the tool and sharpen it the machine runs 1:22:59 continuously so these workers must be very agile and precise in warm weather asparagus grows 1:23:08 quickly up to 10 in tall within 24 hours during this period the pickers 1:23:16 have to go through the fields twice a day to pick because harvesting asparagus 1:23:21 greater than 12 in in length will reduce the total Harvest over the growing 1:23:27 period unlike other agricultural products farmers will not harvest 1:23:32 asparagus in the first or second year this is because plants need time to 1:23:39 develop roots in the third year when the asparagus beds have fully developed 1:23:45 Farms will then begin harvesting next we will go to the Almond 1:23:51 fields almonds are warm weather trees and produce best in areas with long hot 1:23:57 dry and sunny Summers the alond harvest season is 1:24:02 usually from early August to late September time may vary depending on 1:24:09 variety you can see the first cracks appear in the seeds at the top of the tree and gradually spread downwards when 1:24:17 approximately 95% of the seed shells are observed to be broken 1:24:23 it is a signal that farmers can begin harvesting when it's time to harvest the 1:24:31 almonds tree vibrators go around the Orchard and shake the nuts off the trees 1:24:36 like this at this time the seeds will lie in the ground after 7 to 10 days of 1:24:43 drying the Almond seeds are swept into neat rows using a specialized 1:24:50 scanner finally the almond dumped onto the 1:24:55 truck today some improved machines allow Farmers to harvest 1:25:01 immediately specifically when shaking the tree this machine has a device to 1:25:07 catch all of the falling seeds like this and this helps to reduce Harvest 1:25:14 loss almost every Orchard goes through this cycle two to three times because 1:25:20 different varieties are picked at different times additionally around this 1:25:26 time the tree begins to gather what it needs for next year's crop therefore 1:25:33 farmers will pay special attention to the needs of trees to ensure the quality 1:25:38 of future crops the majority of the country's 1:25:44 Citrus grows in three states California Arizona and 1:25:51 Texas California Farmers lead Citrus production supplying about 60% of the 1:25:58 Citrus grown in the US harvesting Citrus requires a gentle 1:26:05 touch you can see the fruit being harvested by hand to protect the next 1:26:11 crop at the same time make sure the peel is not bruised or damaged manual Harvest 1:26:18 requires a team of skilled Harvest workers 1:26:25 these workers work on One Tree at a time harvesting each ripe fruit on each tree 1:26:31 before moving on to the next on average it takes about 1 to 2 hours to harvest a 1:26:38 whole box of citrus once the bins are filled with 1:26:44 freshly harvested Citrus they are immediately loaded onto trucks and 1:26:50 transported to the production facility facility here the Citrus is washed sized 1:26:57 and packaged Citrus are often packaged in bags or boxes before being shipped to 1:27:03 the local grocery store our final destination today is the 1:27:10 sweet corn field sweet corn is an annual crop the warmer the air the faster the 1:27:18 sweet corn will cook it usually rip happens about 15 to 23 days after 1:27:25 trimming the beard or even sooner if the temperatures are especially 1:27:33 High when the corn silk turns brown like this the kernels are plump and milky 1:27:39 white and this means they are ready to be 1:27:44 harvested in some states the majority of sweet corn is harvested by hand because 1:27:50 this method allows farmers to better select corn kernels for 1:27:56 Market sorting by quality in the field also saves sorting time in the packaging 1:28:03 plant this means that the product can move to the cooling packaging and 1:28:08 storage steps faster sweet corn is harvested 1:28:13 mechanically the stalks will be cut by the Harvester like this then the stems and leaves will be 1:28:20 removed right on the Harvester and the finished sweet corn is transferred via 1:28:28 truck after harvesting the sweetness decreases rapidly before the sugar in 1:28:33 the grain is converted into starch Harvest temperatures and storage 1:28:38 temperatures of sweet corn have a significant influence on the 1:28:44 quality therefore American farmers often harvest sweet corn in the early morning 1:28:50 or late afternoon when temperatures are cool to help refrigerate and maintain 1:28:59 [Music] quality hello my friends did you know that behind the green curtain of fields 1:29:06 and Orchards lies the effort of farmers who provide food for millions of people 1:29:11 right now we will explore the fields of American agriculture where Farmers grow and harvest millions of tons of crops 1:29:19 every year Welcome to California where celery is 1:29:26 grown year round the celery Fields stretch out like a vibrant green sea 1:29:31 with rows of celery plants Standing Tall and robust creating a lively and fresh 1:29:38 landscape early in the morning as the sun rises American farmers start their 1:29:43 workday they wear wi brimmed hats buttonup shirts and carry harvesting 1:29:49 tools they begin at one end of the field and the crew responsible for cutting and 1:29:54 packing moves gradually towards the other end the farmers cut the entire celery plant including the roots and the 1:30:02 top portion you might notice something interesting the cutting tool also serves 1:30:08 as a measure it is designed based on standard dimensions so that celery can 1:30:14 be packed into nylon bags or plastic crates prepared in advance Farmers plant celery in careful 1:30:21 Road creating a harmonious and tidy image the care and dedication of the 1:30:28 farmers are evident as they tend to the field step by step including the harvesting process each Harvest is not 1:30:36 just labor but also the fruition of their investment in the land the celery cutting process is Swift 1:30:43 and precise afterward they load the celery onto a vehicle for processing by 1:30:49 packing workers here the celery is rinsed with water to remove any 1:30:54 turd the harvesting crew Works diligently to produce quality crates of 1:31:00 celery it may be timec consuming but they need to remove damaged celery before it goes into the 1:31:07 crates another group of workers is responsible for loading these crates onto 1:31:12 trucks once the trucks are filled with crates they are transported to a central facility for final processing before 1:31:19 being distributed to the market such as supermarkets or local 1:31:26 markets in the full harvest season Vineyard spread across the American 1:31:31 Countryside creating a captivating and diverse landscape in The Vineyards of central 1:31:38 California the Deep green grape leaves provide an ideal backdrop for these ripe 1:31:43 purple grapes that cover the entire Vineyard farmers are getting ready to harvest the first batch of grapes of the 1:31:50 season from the early days of the growing season grape Vines are carefully tended too when it's time for Harvest 1:31:59 Farmers continue to inspect each grape cluster to determine ripeness and 1:32:04 quality you can see that right after cutting the grapes they remove any damaged ones from the cluster this 1:32:11 process takes time compared to continuous harvesting but it helps prevent damaged grapes from affecting 1:32:17 the others in the cluster during the packing stage grapes are sorted once again they are removing 1:32:25 small or discolored grapes all these steps are done quickly and accurately to 1:32:30 ensure that the pack grapes are uniform in size visually appealing and 1:32:37 fresh these grape crates are pre-positioned under the vines and then a vehicle comes to collect them this way 1:32:44 Farmers save time moving back and forth and can focus on harvesting 1:32:50 grapes compare compared to some other fruits grape harvesting is a more Technical and delicate process 1:32:57 Additionally the Deep knowledge of grapes held by American farmers contributes to the quality and 1:33:03 distinctive Taste of American grapes highly sought after in the 1:33:08 [Music] market next we move on to a Citrus Grove in Florida the citrus trees Stand Tall 1:33:16 each branch bearing clusters of ripe oranges creating a magnificent and 1:33:21 vibrant scene of strength and freshness you can see the dark green leaves of the trees covering the juicy 1:33:29 oranges when 90% of the Grove is covered in Orange along with the aroma filling 1:33:34 the air it's a sign that they are ready to be harvested early in the morning Farmers 1:33:41 step into the Orange Grove with enthusiasm and passion they wear some protective clothing and carry large 1:33:48 baskets to hold the first oranges of the season instead of rushing to pick them the 1:33:54 farmers first check each orange to ensure they are ripe and of high quality 1:34:00 then they gently cut each Orange from the tree and arrange them in bags when 1:34:05 the bags are full Farmers pull them into crates handling them carefully to avoid 1:34:11 damaging the fruit ladders are valuable tools for citrus Harvesters they use them to reach 1:34:18 high up oranges like this when the bags are full and heavy 1:34:23 they start climbing down slowly everything is done meticulously by experienced fruit Pickers as the height 1:34:30 and weight of oranges can lead to injuries under the scorching Sun Farmers 1:34:36 work with love for their Groves hoping that each orange will carry the quality 1:34:41 and flavor of American soil providing consumers with wonderful 1:34:49 experiences farewell to the citrus Groves we now move on to a type of manually harvested crop these vibrant 1:34:57 red apple orchards are a vital part of American agriculture growing vigorously 1:35:02 in States like Washington New York Michigan and the Appalachian regions the timing of apple harvest 1:35:10 depends on the apple variety and the specific climate conditions of each region Farmers often determine the 1:35:17 ripeness of the apples to decide when to harvest similar to the Citrus Harvest they use 1:35:24 ladders to pick apples from tall trees Farmers start harvesting from one end of 1:35:30 the apple orchard and work their way through to the other end when the apples fill the truck they transport them to a 1:35:37 storage facility for sorting and preservation harvesting apples from tall 1:35:44 trees is not an easy task but experienced Harvesters manage it well 1:35:49 you can see the careful balance endurance and skill that farmers 1:35:55 employ at this Farm Farmers work diligently to complete the Harvest before it's too late each day they 1:36:03 harvest around 15 to 30 bags like these after filling the bags Farmers gently 1:36:09 pour the apples out they also remove any branches and leaves from the 1:36:15 crates Farmers sort and grade the apples by size and quality right in the orchard 1:36:22 after harvesting apples are carefully packaged to ensure the fruit remains 1:36:27 undamaged Farmers need to perform each step quickly and accurately to preserve 1:36:33 the quality of the apples now we say goodbye to the apple 1:36:39 orchards and move on to a potato farm in North Dakota here farmers are preparing 1:36:45 Seed Potatoes for planting while manual planting and harvesting like this still happen happen 1:36:51 on smaller Farms larger scale operations producing hundreds of tons each year 1:36:57 require the help of Machinery giant machines are moving across the vast potato fields of Idaho 1:37:05 known as the potato state of America these machines replace human 1:37:10 labor from planting seed potatoes to harvesting and transportation resulting 1:37:15 in highly efficient work the utilization of modern technology in Agro ulture is the 1:37:22 strength of American farmers why do I say that take a look at this intelligent 1:37:28 machine it is rolling up the potato vines after separating the potato tubers 1:37:34 from the plants the harvesting machine immediately drops them back onto the field everything happens within seconds 1:37:42 and of course it takes only a short time to harvest the entire field this is 1:37:48 something humans cannot achieve moreover with Machinery harvesting at night like this poses no 1:37:55 significant challenge to get these attractive potato vines on the conveyor like this farmers 1:38:03 need to wake up early and start working on these enormous machines they move 1:38:09 across the fields with the hope that no potatoes are left in the ground this 1:38:14 truck helps Farmers transport the potatoes to storage facilities or processing 1:38:20 centers after returning to the storage workers will gather the remaining potato vines 1:38:26 once more to ensure the potatoes are completely dry and clean this helps 1:38:31 prolong the preservation process finally the potatoes will be transported to processing points and be 1:38:39 ready to be brought to the market hello my friends in today's video 1:38:47 we'll visit America's farmlands to discover how millions of farmers Harvest millions of pounds of 1:38:54 produce the strawberry industry in the US is developing 1:39:00 spectacularly so it is not surprising that it is of interest to many 1:39:05 farmers approximately 60,000 acres in the United States are planted and 1:39:12 harvested for strawberries California is responsible 1:39:18 for more than 75% of us strawberry production with production of about 1 billion per 1:39:27 year there's nothing better than enjoying fresh picked strawberries on a warm spring day if you love this 1:39:34 succulent fruit please comment to us to let us know what you 1:39:40 think these Strawberry Fields can average up to 46,000 lbs each 1:39:47 year early in the morning workers here will gather to prepare to pick 1:39:54 strawberries their equipment includes a cart cartons and plastic boxes to help 1:40:00 store strawberries after filling the strawberries they will bring the cartons 1:40:06 to the Gathering Place for the garden owner to 1:40:12 inspect strawberry picking workers must follow the Harvest schedule every 1 to 2 1:40:18 days they will be instructed to pick properly to avoid injuring the 1:40:23 strawberries the workers move along the paths between the 1:40:29 fors when picking farmers will leave a green stem at the top of the fruit this 1:40:36 prevents unnecessary bruising or damage that could cause the fruit to spoil 1:40:43 later in addition to strawberries carrots are also crops grown and 1:40:48 transported year round in California California with four main production 1:40:55 regions California produces more than 85% of all carrots grown in the US 1:41:03 Michigan and Texas are the other important carrot producing 1:41:08 states according to the US Department of Agriculture in recent years carrots 1:41:14 ranked 17th in California's top 20 livestock and crop commodities worth 1:41:21 about $500 million carrots are usually ready to 1:41:27 harvest about 90 days after sewing the seeds they are harvested when the roots 1:41:33 are a good size and still them or washed and 1:42:32 allowed to dry briefly before storing usually when harvesting by hand 1:42:38 farmers will choose cool days to avoid the roots from overheating in the 1:42:45 sun more than half of the sugar in the US comes from sugar 1:42:51 beats this is a plant grown on farms across the country but have you ever 1:42:57 wondered how the Journey of harvesting sugar beets takes place up oranges like this when the bags are full and heavy 1:56:39 they start climbing down slowly everything is done meticulously by experienced fruit Pickers as the height 1:56:46 and weight of oranges can lead to injuries under the scorching Sun Farmers work 1:56:53 with love for their Groves hoping that each orange will carry the quality and flavor of American soil providing 1:57:00 consumers with wonderful experiences farewell to the Citrus 1:57:07 Groves we now move on to a type of manually harvested crop these vibrant 1:57:13 red apple orchards are a vital part of American agriculture growing vigorously 1:57:18 in stat like Washington New York Michigan and the Appalachian regions the timing of apple harvest 1:57:26 depends on the apple variety and the specific climate conditions of each region Farmers often determine the 1:57:33 ripeness of the apples to decide when to harvest similar to the Citrus Harvest 1:57:40 they use ladders to pick apples from tall trees Farmers start harvesting from 1:57:45 one end of the apple orchard and work their way through to the other end when the apples fill the truck they 1:57:52 transport them to a storage facility for sorting and preservation harvesting apples from tall 1:57:59 trees is not an easy task but experienced Harvesters manage it well 1:58:05 you can see the careful balance endurance and skill that farmers 1:58:11 employ at this Farm Farmers work diligently to complete the Harvest before it's too late each day they 1:58:19 Harvest around 15 to 30 bags like these after filling the bags Farmers gently 1:58:25 pour the apples out they also remove any branches and leaves from the 1:58:31 crates Farmers sort and Grate the apples by size and quality right in the 1:58:37 orchard after harvesting apples are carefully packaged to ensure the fruit 1:58:42 remains undamaged Farmers need to perform each step quickly and accurately to preserve 1:58:49 the quality of the apples now we say goodbye to the apple 1:58:55 orchards and move on to a potato farm in North Dakota here farmers are preparing 1:59:01 Seed Potatoes for planting while manual planting and harvesting like this still happen on 1:59:07 smaller Farms larger scale operations producing hundreds of tons each year 1:59:13 require the help of Machinery giant machines are moving across the vast potato fields of Idaho 1:59:21 known as the potato state of America these machines replace human 1:59:26 labor from planting seed potatoes to harvesting and transportation resulting 1:59:31 in highly efficient work the utilization of modern technology in agriculture is the 1:59:38 strength of American farmers why do I say that take a look at this intelligent 1:59:44 machine it is rolling up the potato vines after separating the potato tubers 1:59:50 from the plants the harvesting machine immediately drops them back onto the field everything happens within seconds 1:59:58 and of course it takes only a short time to harvest the entire field this is something humans cannot 2:00:05 achieve moreover with Machinery harvesting at night like this poses no 2:00:11 significant challenge to get these attractive potato vines on the conveyor like this farmers 2:00:18 need to to wake up early and start working on these enormous machines they 2:00:24 move across the fields with the hope that no potatoes are left in the ground 2:00:29 this truck helps Farmers transport the potatoes to storage facilities or processing 2:00:36 centers after returning to the storage workers will gather the remaining potato vines once more to ensure the potatoes 2:00:44 are completely dry and clean this helps prolong the preservation process 2:00:49 process finally the potatoes will be transported to processing points and be 2:00:55 ready to be brought to the market hello my friends in today's video 2:01:02 we'll visit America's farmlands to discover how millions of farmers Harvest millions of pounds of 2:01:10 produce the strawberry industry in the US is developing 2:01:15 spectacularly so it is not surprising that it is of interest to many 2:01:21 farmers approximately 60,000 acres in the United States are planted and 2:01:27 harvested for strawberries California is responsible 2:01:34 for more than 75% of us strawberry production with production of about 1 billion per 2:01:43 year there's nothing better than enjoying fresh picked strawberries on a warm spring day 2:01:49 if you love this succulent fruit please comment to us to let us know what you 2:01:55 think these Strawberry Fields can average up to 46,000 each 2:02:03 year early in the morning workers here will gather to prepare to pick 2:02:09 strawberries their equipment includes a cart cartons and plastic boxes to help 2:02:16 store strawberries after filling the strawberries they will bring the cartons 2:02:22 to the Gathering Place for the garden owner to 2:02:27 inspect strawberry picking workers must follow the Harvest schedule every 1 to 2 2:02:34 days they will be instructed to pick properly to avoid injuring the 2:02:39 strawberries the workers move along the paths between the 2:02:45 fors when picking farmers will leave a green green stem at the top of the fruit 2:02:51 this prevents unnecessary bruising or damage that could cause the fruit to 2:02:56 spoil later in addition to strawberries 2:03:02 carrots are also crops grown and transported year round in California 2:03:08 with four main production regions California produces more than 2:03:14 85% of all carrots grown in the US Michigan and Texas are the other 2:03:21 important carrot producing states according to the US Department of 2:03:27 Agriculture in recent years carrots ranked 17th in California's top 20 2:03:33 livestock and crop Commodities worth about $500 2:03:40 million carrots are usually ready to harvest about 90 days after sewing the 2:03:46 seeds they are harvested when when the roots are a good size and still 2:03:51 tender carrots can also be stored underground during winter months however 2:03:57 if carrots are left in the soil for too long they can become overripe hard and 2:04:03 possibly CR this is a Farmer's Machine in the harvesting season the Harvester loosens 2:04:11 the soil then gently pulls the carrots out of the ground the blades cut the tops of the 2:04:17 carrots as they move inside the machine the tops are discarded to the back of 2:04:22 the machine while the carrots move on a conveyor belt and are dumped into 2:04:27 trucks these carrots will be treated in water to remove sand and soil and then 2:04:33 go through cleaning and a packaging process the farmer gently lifts The 2:04:40 Roots out of the ground after cutting off the tops the carrots can be stored 2:04:45 with the remaining soil on them or washed and allowed to dry dry briefly before 2:04:51 storing usually when harvesting by hand farmers will choose cool days to avoid 2:04:57 the roots from overheating in the sun more than half of the sugar in the 2:05:04 US comes from sugar beets this is a plant grown on farms 2:05:10 across the country but have you ever wondered how the Journey of harvesting sugar beets takes place before it 2:05:17 appears in your meals the period when sugar beats are harvested usually begins in September 2:05:25 and lasts until May of the following year after harvesting the finished sugar 2:05:32 beets will be transported to the processing Factory Here people begin the process of 2:05:38 turning sugar beets into refined sugar like 2:05:44 this during Peak harvest season sugar beat factories oper operate 24 hours a 2:05:50 day for processing and production harvesting machines begin 2:05:56 cutting off the leaves of sugar beets next the farmer uses a separate tractor 2:06:02 to lift the sugar beets out of the ground and pick them up they are then cleaned to remove sand and other 2:06:09 impurities before being put into the tank the sugar beats are then loaded 2:06:16 onto the platform of the truck next door all they work in Tandem and this is 2:06:21 considered the perfect duo in the harvest season Fields once harvested the beat pile is 2:06:29 constantly monitored to ensure it stays cool and stable before being processed 2:06:36 some beets will sit in a pile like this for nearly 5 months so it's important 2:06:43 that temperatures don't change too drastically during the winter this could cause the beets to 2:06:50 spoil asparagus is usually planted in May so it is ready to develop before 2:06:58 winter whether grown as a stem or transplanted asparagus is grown by 2:07:03 farmers in beds about 8 in deep asparagus Harvest usually begins in 2:07:10 early may but depending on the weather it can begin in April the asparagus Harvest last from 6 2:07:19 to 8 weeks during which time Farmers must Harvest every 2:07:25 day before working they will check the tool and sharpen it the machine runs 2:07:31 continuously so these workers must be very agile and precise in warm weather asparagus grows 2:07:40 quickly up to 10 in tall within 24 hours during this period the pickers 2:07:47 have to go through through the fields twice a day to pick because harvesting asparagus greater than 12 in in length 2:07:55 will reduce the total Harvest over the growing period unlike other agricultural 2:08:01 products farmers will not harvest asparagus in the first or second year 2:08:08 this is because plants need time to develop roots in the third year when the 2:08:14 asparagus beds have fully developed Farms will then begin 2:08:19 harvesting next we will go to the Almond Fields almonds are warm weather trees 2:08:26 and produced best in areas with long hot dry and sunny 2:08:31 Summers the Almond harvest season is usually from early August to late 2:08:37 September time may vary depending on variety you can see the first cracks 2:08:43 appear in the seeds at the top of the tree and gradually spread downwards when 2:08:49 approximately 95% of the seed shells are observed to be 2:08:54 broken it is a signal that farmers can begin 2:09:00 harvesting when it's time to harvest the almonds tree vibrators go around the 2:09:05 Orchard and shake the nuts off the trees like this at this time the seeds will 2:09:11 lie in the ground after 7 to 10 days of drying the Almond seeds are swept into 2:09:17 neat ROP using a specialized scanner finally the almonds are dumped 2:09:24 onto the truck today some improved machines allow 2:09:31 Farmers to harvest immediately specifically when shaking the tree this machine has a device to 2:09:38 catch all of the falling seeds like this and this helps to reduce Harvest 2:09:45 loss almost every Orchard goes through this cycle two to three times because 2:09:52 different varieties are picked at different times additionally around this 2:09:58 time the tree begins to gather what it needs for next year's crop therefore 2:10:04 farmers will pay special attention to the needs of trees to ensure the quality 2:10:10 of future crops the majority of the country's 2:10:16 Citrus grows in three States California Arizona and 2:10:23 Texas California Farmers lead Citrus production supplying about 60% of the 2:10:30 Citrus grown in the US harvesting Citrus requires a gentle 2:10:37 touch you can see the fruit being harvested by hand to protect the next 2:10:43 crop at the same time make sure the peel is not bruised all day damaged manual 2:10:50 Harvest requires a team of skilled Harvest 2:10:56 workers these workers work on One Tree at a time harvesting each ripe fruit on 2:11:02 each tree before moving on to the next on average it takes about 1 to 2 hours 2:11:09 to harvest a whole box of citrus once the bins are filled with 2:11:16 freshly harvested citrus they are immediately loaded onto trucks 2:11:21 and transported to the production facility here the Citrus is washed sized 2:11:28 and packaged Citrus are often packaged in bags or boxes before being shipped to 2:11:35 the local grocery store our final destination today is the 2:11:42 sweet corn field sweet corn is an annual crop the 2:11:48 warmer the air the faster the sweet corn will cook it usually ripens about 15 to 2:11:55 23 days after trimming the beard or even sooner if the temperatures 2:12:02 are especially High when the corn silk turns brown like 2:12:08 this the kernels are plump and milky white and this means they are ready to 2:12:14 be harvested in some states the majority of sweet corn is harvested 2:12:20 by hand because this method allows Farmers to better select corn kernels for 2:12:28 Market sorting by quality in the field also saves sorting time in the packaging 2:12:35 plant this means that the product can move to the cooling packaging and storage steps 2:12:42 faster sweet corn is harvested mechanically the stalks will be cut by 2:12:47 the Harvester like this then the stems and leaves will be 2:12:52 removed right on the Harvester and the finished sweet corn is transferred via 2:13:00 truck after harvesting the sweetness decreases rapidly before the sugar in 2:13:05 the grain is converted into starch Harvest temperatures and storage 2:13:10 temperatures of sweet corn have a significant influence on the 2:13:16 quality therefore American farmers often harvest sweet corn in the early morning 2:13:22 or late afternoon when temperatures are cool to help refrigerate and maintain 2:13:30 [Music] quality hello my friends did you know that behind the green curtain of fields 2:13:37 and Orchards lies the effort of farmers who provide food for millions of people 2:13:43 right now we will explore the fields of American agriculture where farmers grow and harvest millions of tons of crops 2:13:51 every year Welcome to California where celery 2:13:57 is grown year round the celery Fields stretch out like a vibrant green sea 2:14:03 with rows of celery plants Standing Tall and robust creating a lively and fresh 2:14:10 landscape early in the morning as the sun rises American farmers start their 2:14:15 workday they wear white brimmed hats buttonup shirts and carry harvesting 2:14:20 tools they begin at one end of the field and the crew responsible for cutting and 2:14:26 packing moves gradually towards the other end the farmers cut the entire celery plant including the roots and the 2:14:33 top portion you might notice something interesting the cutting tool also serves 2:14:40 as a measure it is designed based on standard dimensions so that celery can 2:14:45 be packed into nylon bags or plastic crates prepared in advance Farmers plant celery in careful 2:14:53 rows creating a harmonious and tidy image the care and dedication of the 2:14:59 farmers are evident as they tend to the field step by step including the harvesting process each Harvest is not 2:15:08 just labor but also the fruition of their investment in the land the celery cutting process is Swift 2:15:15 and precise afterward they load the celery onto a vehicle for processing by 2:15:21 packing workers here the celery is rinsed with water to remove any 2:15:26 dirt the harvesting crew Works diligently to produce quality crates of 2:15:31 celery it may be time consuming but they need to remove damaged celery before it 2:15:37 goes into the crates another group of workers is responsible for loading these crates 2:15:43 onto trucks once the trucks are filled with crates they are transport ported to a 2:15:48 central facility for final processing before being distributed to the market such as supermarkets or local 2:15:58 markets in the fall harvest season Vineyards spread across the American 2:16:03 Countryside creating a captivating and diverse landscape in The Vineyards of central 2:16:09 California the Deep green grape leaves provide an ideal backdrop for these ripe 2:16:14 purple grapes that cover the entire Vineyard farmers are getting ready to harvest the 2:16:20 first batch of grapes of the season from the early days of the growing season grape Vines are carefully 2:16:27 tended to when it's time for Harvest Farmers continue to inspect each grape 2:16:33 cluster to determine ripeness and quality you can see that right after 2:16:38 cutting the grapes they remove any damaged ones from the cluster this process takes time compared to 2:16:45 continuous harvesting but it helps PR prevent damaged grapes from affecting the others in the 2:16:50 cluster during the packing stage grapes are sorted once again they are removing 2:16:56 small or discolored grapes all these steps are done quickly and accurately to 2:17:02 ensure that the pack grapes are uniform in size visually appealing and 2:17:08 fresh these grape crates are pre-positioned under the vines and then a vehicle comes to collect them this way 2:17:16 Farmers save time move moving back and forth and can focus on harvesting 2:17:22 grapes compared to some other fruits grape harvesting is a more Technical and 2:17:27 delicate process Additionally the Deep knowledge of grapes held by American 2:17:32 farmers contributes to the quality and distinctive Taste of American grapes highly sought after in the 2:17:40 [Music] market next we move on to a Citrus Grove in Florida the citrus trees stand tall 2:17:48 each branch bearing clusters of ripe oranges creating a magnificent and 2:17:53 vibrant scene of strength and freshness you can see the dark green leaves of the trees covering the juicy 2:18:00 oranges when 90% of the Grove is covered in Orange along with the aroma filling 2:18:06 the air is a sign that they are ready to be harvested early in the morning Farmers 2:18:12 step into the Orange Grove with enthusiasm and passion they wear some protective clothing and carry large 2:18:19 baskets to hold the first oranges of the Season instead of rushing to pick them 2:18:26 the farmers first check each orange to ensure they are ripe and of high quality 2:18:32 then they gently cut each Orange from the tree and arrange them in bags when 2:18:37 the bags are full Farmers pull them into crates handling them carefully to avoid 2:18:42 damaging the fruit ladders are valuable tools for citrus h Harvesters they use them to 2:18:49 reach high up oranges like this when the bags are full and heavy 2:18:55 they start climbing down slowly everything is done meticulously by experienced fruit Pickers as the height 2:19:02 and weight of oranges can lead to injuries under the scorching Sun Farmers 2:19:08 work with love for their Groves hoping that each orange will carry the quality 2:19:13 and flavor of American soil providing consumers with one wonderful 2:19:21 experiences farewell to the Citrus Groves we now move on to a type of manually harvested crop these vibrant 2:19:29 red apple orchards are a vital part of American agriculture growing vigorously 2:19:34 in States like Washington New York Michigan and the Appalachian regions the timing of apple harvest 2:19:41 depends on the apple variety and the specific climate conditions of each region Farmers often determine the 2:19:49 ripeness of the apples to decide when to harvest similar to the Citrus Harvest 2:19:55 they use ladders to pick apples from tall trees Farmers start harvesting from 2:20:01 one end of the apple orchard and work their way through to the other end when the apples fill the truck they transport 2:20:08 them to a storage facility for sorting and preservation harvesting apples from tall 2:20:15 trees is not an easy task but experienced Harvesters manage it well 2:20:21 you can see the careful balance endurance and skill that farmers 2:20:27 employ at this Farm Farmers work diligently to complete the Harvest before it's too late each day they 2:20:35 harvest around 15 to 30 bags like these after filling the bags Farmers gently 2:20:41 pour the apples out they also remove any branches and leaves from the crates 2:20:48 Farmers sort and Grate the apples by size and quality right in the orchard after harvesting apples are 2:20:55 carefully packaged to ensure the fruit remains undamaged Farmers need to perform each 2:21:01 step quickly and accurately to preserve the quality of the 2:21:08 apples now we say goodbye to the apple orchards and move on to a potato farm in 2:21:13 North Dakota here farmers are preparing Seed potatoes for planting while manual planting and 2:21:21 harvesting like this still happen on Americans would not want to do that sort of thankless, back breaking work for pay that is often minimum wage or less. The living quarters of migrant workers are often in poor condition. I can only appreciate the work of those who do the work that the majority of Americans would never lower themselves to do.
