At the turn of the millennium, the big-boned Eric Esch was splitting guys into atoms with a single touch. The neckless man, known as Butterbean, had been crushing opposition in the boxing ring for two decades, later stormed the kickboxing frontline and even cracked some chins in MMA. It's time to enjoy the knockouts by a one-of-a-kind character in sports history.

Guy had heart and crazy power in those hands! The fact that he was able to beat real contenders without any real top level training or trainers is unreal! The guy was a true legend

Thanks for the video. The Bean is my all-time favorite fighter. He never backed down from a challenge and was always a good sport. He silenced his doubters and destroyed stereotypes. Tremendous humility. Glad that he got his health together after retiring. Much respect.

Nice tribute, thank you. The guy is a phenom, a savant to the sport and this is a well deserved addition to your catalogue. The man's got drive and I love his fights.
My stepdad was a bar manager/bouncer for years and the only fight advice I ever got from him was, "never fight a fat man - you can never tell how strong or how fast they are."
I've never fought a fat man, except in judo class. That was frustrating.

I don’t care if this man has exposure to high level boxing or MMA from a young age he’s one of the goats. The guy was a natural something special, a true fighter in all sense of the word. And his comeback from obesity and death’s doors is another testament to his spirit

Esch wasn't as 2 dimensional as he was often taken as. Especially after his first loss, he worked on defense and tricky angles. He didn't need too many shots to impose himself. Great to see Bernardo in here--hadn't thought about him in a while. Was a beast.

Absolutely Excellent Documentary!
Thank You! Butter Bean has always been in a class of greatness all to himself. He & Tyson are my favorites of all time next to Andre The Giant. You really showcase him well in such a way that makes this so exciting & enjoyable to watch as his career most definitely is/was. In & out of the ring ButterBean is such a class act & a real role model I and all those around me have truly admired, respected & always rooted for. He has such strength & power that makes it so fun to watch him get underestimated & dominate with true hold my Beer performance. Such an icon!! The JackAss bout was such a riot as I remember! Is ButterBean ok?!! ! Thanks to Diamond Dallas Page & his(ButterBean) hard work he’s doing !!

Butterbean is such a Cool man. I am in the position Butterbean was when he couldn't stand up straight when walking (old spine injury). The pain is unbearable. Multiple spine specialist say there is nothing they can do to help me. I'm just happy to see Butterbean doing so much better, I just hope for his sake and his grandchildrens sake he won't get back in the ring. He's proven himself over and over. I love Butterbean and want him to be able to live a healthy, happy second half of his life. I've had so many injuries that I have pain from the top of my head down to my toes. I'm sure Butterbean deals with some daily joint, arthritic, nerve or fibromyalgia type pain 24/7 from all the hits he's taken but I hope I'm wrong. May God continue to Bless you Butterbean. Stay active and keep your body moving so you don't stiffen up. Just don't let anyone pound on you except for your youngest grandchildren. I wish you a long life of Happiness and zero to very minimum physical pain, Butterbean. God Loves you and so do I.
Tom

Quote from his opponents as they lie on the canvas:
"Say, did anyone get that truck's number?"
Eric's style wasn't pretty, but he sure got the job done. Legend!

So I trained as an archaeologist and a little known fact about gladiators in the ancient world is that they were usually Butterbean shaped. Fights to the death were rare as gladiators were very expensive. They would carry a lot of weight to protect their vitals and also to be able to take impressive but relatively safe cuts for the crowd.
Like the Bean they were also incredibly strong and quick, the fat was there to protect.

Props to everyone who dared to face Butterbean in the ring. Jesus that must've been scary.

Eric: There's no HUGGING in boxing. This man was the master of no hugging. I've never seen someone making boxers actually box like him
