After suffering from year around terrible sinusitis and breathing problems and losing my sense of taste and smell also 20 some yrs ago, having 7 operations to remove nasal polyps in which all the various doctors had no definitive answers, everything they offered didn't work or caused other issues, taking medications ( prednisone ) helped get me to work, but then I was suffering side effects from them too. 24 yrs later and feeling like my days were numbered from now digestive problems also I decided to implement Dr Gundry's recommendations, desperately trying anything to get some relief. For the first time in 24 some yrs I can taste and smell without Drs help or meds or recent surgeries, even my surgeon has examined my sinuses with the scope and says the nasal polyps are disappearing on their own, my blood work shows inflammation factors are subsiding IgE count is coming down, my Drs are amazed. What troubles me is their are so many naysayers trying to shoot holes in Dr Gundry's theories, nonetheless after going on a lectin avoidance diet I am returning to normal. I do know this conventional Drs haven't come close to helping me to this level even with all the meds I use to take. Now it's just a dietary change no meds, and feeling much much better. Thank you Dr Gundry for bringing awareness to lectins, avoidance has changed my life👍 Call it fad or whatever you want it worked for me.

There is plenty of evidence that legumes especially beans and whole grains are the highest source of lectins and relates to why white rice is generally favoured in rice growing countries in spite of the fact the whole grain rice has more nutrients. Also it seems there is good evidence that cows milk (casein A1 type) can cause immunological problems, supporting the experience of many that goats and sheep milk is more easy on the digestion and health. The information that rice and legumes can be pressure cooked is very valuable information. For people with chronic health disorders Grundy reports that many ie a high proportion of people recover health after eliminating lectins from the diet and this was backed up by extensive blood tests showing cessation of immune (auto-immune) stress when lectins where withdrawn from the diet. Gundry has done a lot of research backed by patient responses and blood work over many years so to say his thesis is not backed by research papers is disingenuous. For the average person who is not suffering from a chronic disease that involves leaky gut then avoiding the main source of lectins that can damage the intestinal villi is all that is normally required as he indeed states. I must admit I shy away from his assertion to avoid most fruit and liken it to candy but do take on board that certain foods such as resistant starches e.g. sweet potatoes have special benefit. So Dr Grundy has provided us with valuable information it is up to us to take from that the positive aspects that will enhance our health. Looking at his information I never gained the feeling that he is steering us away for a largely plant based diet, if you feel that then just take from his information the positive points that gel with you. To engage in a video/talk that the modus operandi is to debunk in general Dr Gundry's work is typical human behaviour of failing to focus on the positive and examine the detail and comes from an emotional stance of protecting ones own beliefs !

He literally says "I eat beans almost everyday", and "You just have to cook them right" when he aired with Joel Kahn on the doctors. But on his website it clearly states that legumes are on the "forbidden " food list, and here he's claiming that it should be eaten sparingly. He can't even get his food recommendations right.
Julia, partly because he's a work in progress and that's why I like him. He's not like many who learn certain principles and then don't really ever veer away from them. Gundry references the Blue Zones a lot.
There's two different Gundry diets an intro and a life long. Dr Gundry's forbidden list is a temporary gut healing option. Once, in theory, your gut is healed you can re-introduce a lot of the forbidden foods, especially those that are easier to digest once pressure cooked. The reason Gundry eats Vegan 5 or 6 days a week and eats lots of beans is because he has already healed his gut. While a lot of what he says reeks of horse shit, I'm not surprised his patients with autoimmune disease saw huge improvements when they're decreasing to a pseudo vegan, very easy to digest diet. Now imagine how good they would do if they went on an AID modified vegan diet, like McDougall has done for his RA patients.
