Let’s talk about the best meal you could eat to clean your arteries and reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. The plaque that can build up in the arteries is a combination of calcium, protein, and cholesterol. In many cases, the calcium results from biofilms, which are colonies of microbes with something like a shell to protect themselves. Biofilms tend to accumulate on roughened edges—if the arteries are smooth and strong, they probably won’t accumulate there. Lesions, oxidation, inflammation, or damage could lead to plaque in the arteries. Typically, a person with clogged arteries will also have high LDL cholesterol (small-dense particle size LDL). Both arterial plaque and this type of LDL are correlated with a high-carb, high-sugar diet. The best nutrients to support the cardiovascular system and reduce the risk of heart disease: 1. Vitamin K2 2. Vitamin C 3. Vitamin E 4. Omega-3 fatty acids The best meal for your cardiovascular system: • Wild-caught salmon • Sauerkraut • A large arugula salad with extra-virgin olive oil, apple cider vinegar, sunflower seeds, Parmigiano cheese, and garlic. If vinegar is listed, then it's NOT actually fermented and will lack the good stuff that Dr. Berg is recommending. Vinegar is used as a flavoring/seasoning to make foods taste fermented. But the REAL fermented/pickled foods will not use vinegar. Check out Bubbies and Saverne brands. It tastes amazing, and doesn't leave you with garlic breath. The fermentation process causes black garlic to contain substantially more antioxidants than raw garlic. This is partly because allicin, the compound that gives garlic its pungent odor when crushed, is converted into antioxidant compounds like alkaloids and flavonoids as black garlic ferments. That's incredible how the diet you described is really mostly part of our daily intake, especially in the northern part of Italy, where we are closer to Austria and we inherited the culture of sauerkraut. Of course we do eat also quite a lot of less healthy stuff such as lots of cold cuts, alcohol, sweet cakes and refined grains. But our grandparents did not. Thats why they get to live till 100 whereas the younger generation is "kind of" less healthy. In Italy we say :"if you eat like a king, you'll die like a king" which, by the way, kings were dieing very young and from coronary deseases. 140 Reply 17 replies Steve_Vegan4Life Steve_Vegan4Life 2 weeks ago Hi, some useful info in this video. Reply Gr8Passion4Music Gr8Passion4Music 3 months ago (edited) You are very much right Dr. Berg, I've also heard that bad oral hygiene may lead to cardiovascular issues. Here's the interesting part, intermittent fasting leads to better oral health because one doesn't eat very often so food particles are collected relatively less. In addition, better immunity and to a certain degree autophagy don't let bacteria thrive that well. Of course this is only my own opinion. 21 Reply Judy Sadowsky Judy Sadowsky 2 weeks ago Great video, very educational. Thanks Dr. E. The phrase "can help" was used quite a bit. This phrase implies there are conditions where the food item discussed does not ALWAYS help. Under what conditions do these food items NOT help? If I eat any of these foods once a week, then is that enough to prevent plaquing? How much salmon, sourcrout, arugula, etc. do I need to ingest and what is the optimal frequency to ingest these food items? How does the role of bioavailability affect the plant food items? While something might have "7 times the amount of vitamin C," it does not mean the body will absorb that large amount. I can drink 8-10 quarts of water in a day, but not in one sitting. So, ingesting 7 x the RDA amount of anything in one meal will most likely lead to some mild negative side effects and any excess will be excreted by the body. So, having an idea of what the optimal amount is would be great. That optimal amount will be different for everyone. Again, thanks for sharing. I think I came up with another really good habit. Still doing No processed sugar no processed carbs. I've struggled with the fasting periods. The closest I get now is having one meal days. But I recently decided I was only going to buy groceries every other week. I think it's good because it forces me to think about it more. I have bought on demand things for that night. I picked up a steak last night. But, it's remarkable how that simple change has made me more mindful. The snacking has gone way down. Of course we're talking about carrots and things, but still. I like things like that, rules to follow that help you stay on track. Like not eating bread, you're eliminating calories rite from the git go. I don't have to think about it. But ya, buying groceries every other week has been good. A good pro tip also is to buy good spices and lots of them. Nothing is boring if you make it taste good. 11 Reply 1 reply arjen arend arjen arend 1 month ago From the Netherlands, living according your video's now for 14 months! lost 14kg and feel great. Regards Reply Lea Redders Lea Redders 1 month ago Hi, your videos are really informative and broken down for the average layperson to understand 👍 Q: A family member has numerous gallstones for 50years. Approx 4 yrs ago she suffered a severe gallbladder infection and was hospitalised for a week. She recovered and was told she needed to have an operation to have the gallbladder removed. She declined and decided to manage her diet better by reducing all fat’s significantly. So far it’s worked but concerned she’s not consuming healthy fats including fish oils, due to the fear of that debilitating pain returning. Started to see an increase in her cholesterol to currently 6.18mmol/l, whereby the typical medical solution was to offer statins, which she also declined following research and family member accounts of being on them. Apart from understanding if there are any long term health affects of consuming minimal fats, is there any link to certain fats impacting the gallbladder more e.g., saturated fats versus fish oil or is it all fats. Would like some kind of reassurance to offer her. Thanks. P.s. she was glucose intolerant for many years which flicked over to being a diabetic resulting from medication she was given. Her diabetes is also under control and is taking no medication for it. 4 Reply 2 replies Mauro Andreini Mauro Andreini 1 month ago Thank you for this one more explanation which goes beyond some already-known factors 🙏 Reply SuperColdLemonade SuperColdLemonade 1 month ago Pure gold =) Nutritional knowledge with real health benefits! Definitely a whole food diet is the way to bring most things back into a better balance. However I don't necessarily agree that there is "little to no dispute" that the foods mentioned in the beggining (cream, butter, fatty meat and so on) don't cause or contribute to CVD. My brother has been extremely into fitness for close to 20 years. He looks amazing and is in spectacular shape (body weight workouts, a bit of cardio and weight training all those years). He followed somewhat of a paleo style diet, doesn't eat sugar, not much grains etc, Mainly meat and veg. He's always craved savoury foods though, in his case in the form of animal fats.He always ate lots of fat freely - any fat on rich meat cuts and so on. But also a lot of veggies etc too. Mostly natural diet. Anyway, everyone was shocked that his cholesterol came back at around 8, when normal was 4-5. The GP was extremely worried and tried to put him on statin drugs which he refused. She was so concerned and said if he doesn't go on the drugs he could be at high heart risk. He and I have both been into health and nutrition for years and we got him onto a low fat, plant based diet full of beans, vegetables, fruits, AND brown rice / quinoa. After 5 weeks strictly on that diet, he went back to the GP for blood tests, and she was SHOCKED. His tests revealed his cholesterol was down to 4.5 or so. It had basically cut in half in 5 weeks drastically reducing his CVD risk. The GP almost fell of her chair, she could not believe he had done this on his own, no meds and only diet. There hundreds of thousands of people testifying to this type of diet reversing so many common health issues in the world. Those type of fatty animal products definitely have a stigma about them for a reason. No not everyone will be effected, but PLENTY of people are, from eating too much sat fat. I would say each person should figure out which type of diet works for THEM specifically, as people have such drastically varying biochemical types. 2 Reply 1 reply Giang Chu Giang Chu 1 month ago Very informative as usual. Lurie-McKay 5 days ago Hello, I would like to thank you for the youtube videos which I find very helpful. I am a 54 year old female with 2 stents and I am, among other things, on daily baby Aspirin, and 10 mg of Prasugrel. Can you please do a video on food and supplements interactions with anticoagulants and anti-platelet medications and "risk of bleeding" . I've read a lot and I think I know more than most on the individual supplements but that just confuses me and makes me paranoid rather than give me some sense of confidence that I know what I am doing when I am eating and taking supplements. There are three questions that torment me in particular and I would like to ask you to be so kind to address those in the video as well. I understand that your videos are for educational purposes only and do not constitute medical advice and I have to consult with my healthcare practitioners (who mostly are too busy to talk about those things in detail; so basically I am on my own). So here are the questions 1) Does increased risk of bleeding translate into a possibility of spontaneous bleeding in the brain without any trauma, if there is no hypertension and no rigorous exercise. 2) Do pro-bleeding and anti-bleeding supplements cancel each other out. For example, I drink 4 glasses of green tea and consume 1/2 avocado and 1 cup of blueberries, on most days; and sometimes I consume a little bit of mixed greens salad (no kale). Those are all anti-bleeding. Does it mean that if I take Coenzyme Q10, turmeric, fish oil, ginseng, gingko biloba, mushroom extract, bitter melon, chamomile tea, cranberries (those are all pro-bleeding), the anti-bleeding will cancel out the effects of the pro-bleeding foods and supplements? I wouldn't take Coenzyme Q10, turmeric, fish oil, ginseng or gingko on the same day, I would rotate through them, one day one, another day- another. I am particularly interested in Coenzyme Q10 as I take Crestor 20 mg and I suffer from the known side effect of muscle weakness which (I tried that!) greatly improves with Coenzyme Q10, however, I learned later that Coenzyme Q10 also increases the "risk of bleeding" so I stopped it. 3) How to get my HDL up if I can't take supplements (such as fish oil) because they increase the risk of bleeding? I am running in circles here to manage my cholesterol and pre-diabetes. Is there a powerful HLD-upper that does not increase the risk of bleeding? My HLD is very low, virtually non-existent and nothing seems so help. Thank you very much indeed!! Reply youtuber42 youtuber42 1 month ago On dairy sensitivities: you can be sensitive to the sugar (lactose), the fat (unlikely), the proteins (A1 or A2 casein) or the opioids derived from the proteins (A1 dairy only). Different dairy products will have different amounts of the above. E.g. A2 milk will have fat and lactose, but no A1 proteins or opioids. Ghee just contains the fat. Cheese will contain the proteins (A1 and/or A2) and the opioids (A1 only). Try out different combinations. 6 Reply 3 replies Pete Brown Pete Brown 2 days ago Thank you for a terrific video. But was concerning to me was my oxalates My oxalates are high. And I don’t eat green food or nuts or anything else on the list because I have been studying Sally Norton for many months I know already. I already know that vegetables cause inflammation because that’s why I went on carnivore in the first place. Well, I found the culprit dark chocolate. I had been eating some sugar-free dark chocolate fudge that I made out of Lillys dark chocolate chips a couple times a week. I eat beef, butter, bacon, eggs, some chicken rarely pork, as in roast or chops etc., I don’t eat salads very rarely or squashes anything like that. I don’t eat any of that because it doesn’t farewell for me. It causes inflammation and I have been absolutely wonderful on the carnivore diet. I’ve healed three areas that were causing me distress. My asthma is better. My arthritic hip pain is better and my lower G.I. issues are better. When I go off of just meat and salt I have issues so people need to really look at Sally Norton and toxic foods, as far as oxalis are concerned. I've been on Keto/Cornivore for about 8 months before I cheated for Hollydays, I became insulin sensitive, lost 56lbs and fat adapted. After one month of eating regularly carbs and sugar, I went right away in to Keto/ OMAD bt didn't have any Keto flu, no cravings, it seems like I never stopped Keto. Is this normal? Michigan Foot Doctors Pinned by Michigan Foot Doctors Michigan Foot Doctors 2 months ago (edited) **Important Correction Notes*: -Most sources I see show butter has roughly 0.5g per 14g (tablespoon), and margarine has 2.1g trans fat per 14g per tablespoon. In no way am I saying butter is horrible for you (in fact, I eat it regularly without issues). I link to what these studies are saying. - There are also new studies now debating whether HDL & LDL is good or bad (or is it just inflammation); I definitely agree that no one has all the answers yet and am open to new opinions. -Statins: I personally don't prescribe them as a foot specialist. It appears to be a negative consensus building up against them. Always check with your doctor to see what the proper medications are for you. 😀 - Are fruits healthy? We could debate this forever, but in moderation, I believe these are an amazing source of nutrition and go over the undeniable benefits in my other videos (but in no way does not mean going crazy eating just fruit all day.) -We really appreciate you, and thanks for watching! 👣 All links & info are in the show notes above. 👣 🦶Let us know what you think and if I'm missing anything!🦶 43 Reply Michigan Foot Doctors · 27 replies Edward Kulcsar Edward Kulcsar 2 months ago I have yet for anyone to describe the circulatory system as good as you have done here, this is biology 101 great job! 41 Michigan Foot Doctors Reply Tanya Sharadamba Tanya Sharadamba 2 months ago Great video! From my understanding the size distribution is more helpful in determining if LDL is a problem than just the standard LDL and total cholesterol numbers, with the small dense LDL (caused by oxidizing sugars/glycation) are what tends to settle into the areas damaged by inflammation and that you want to be low. And there’s less of an issue as the LDL particle size increases (intermediate, large). From what I have seen from some cardiologists talking about this, you may show “high” LDL and total cholesterol in the standard test, but show very low levels of the small dense LDL from a more advanced/particle size distribution test, which may indicate there may not really be an issue with LDL. Of course this requires a more thorough investigation and medical help that dives into that level. Also, echoing other comments on statins, the benefits (again based on info/studies presented by cardiologists) is suspect at best, especially given the range of side effects and reported reduction in mortality (its minuscule if at all). These same cardiologists recommend focusing on improving metabolic health and markers to deal with this issue (this is a big deal and includes many of the steps in the video), and some medications may be needed during that process with the idea those may be able to be weaned off over time. 2 Reply Today is tomorrow Today is tomorrow 1 month ago AngioVac, by AngioDynamics, includes a small tube that is inserted in the neck and/or groin to access the blood vessels with the clot. The primary emphasis on diet over surgery is definitely a step forward. However, the recommendation of fish oil for cardiovascular health via omega3 fatty acids is questionable, since continuing research fails to establish definitive benefit for cardiovascular disease. Of course, this disappointment with omega3s runs against at least 20 years of fish oil promotion, not to mention fish tissue consumption. Reply Oppothumbs M Oppothumbs M 1 month ago (edited) Very descriptive. I don't get enough Omega 6 or enough Sodium so I take extra along with fish oil. My acne went away. I agree with your other analysis . LDL is essentially the boat carrying cholesterol ,HDL and other essential molecules. The boat can become dense from the foods we eat and then will enter the 1 cell thick artery surface . where it then becomes further dense and cause something called a FOAM cell. which then turns to plaque build up. Am I incorrect on my assumption that LDL molecules are not bad molecules? Thanks for the informative view here. However when it came to the prevention part, they generally don't have much information to provide. Doctors learn about the causes of a decease from researchers but the researchers themselves are still in the dark when it came to heart health. Several studies have done, still going and the conclusions are not yet clear. Currently there are lot of contradicting research data out there and will drive you crazy. Doctors usually handpicks studies which suits their own personal view. Example, a Vegan Doctor is more likely to choose studies which shows a correlation between animal fat and hear decease but a Pro-Keto doctor may choose studies showing possible links between meat and good health. It's impossible to choose a specific lifestyle which can guarantee good health. Unless the researchers can came with rock solid, undeniable data which can prove their narration, it's better to stay away from any extreme lifestyle. Do everything and eat everything (except processed junk of course) in moderation. Engage in physical activities but don't push the body to it's limit. Moderation is the only key. 34 Michigan Foot Doctors Reply Michigan Foot Doctors · 5 replies Kris Justin Kris Justin 2 months ago Interesting and informative! And, to reiterate, IT IS MORE NOURISHING to eat foods that are not processed. In the processing, preservatives and other petrol-based chemicals are added. All petrol-based chemicals are carcinogenic, however they are carcinogenic to varying degrees. The govt allows certain petrol-chemicals in food (not for our benefit, but for the company's profit benefit), so that only the least carcinogenic chemicals are allowed (least risk). The 3 MOST EFFECTIVE natural, plant-based remedies to DISSOLVE plaque in the arteries are: 1. Hawthorn berries (Crateagus spp. trees) 2. Hot chilis - any of the Capsicum spp., plus some others spp., such as tobasco peppers. These can be eaten raw too. Chilis from Central Amer. will often be either dried or canned. 3. Red table wine processed using the traditional. old world methods (in other words, not rot-gut wine that is heavily chemicalized). Of course, the people that need to consume the above will NOT have a natural tendency to do so. Why, because there is NO CRAVING present for these. Free T3 starts the reaction with first up-regulating the ABCA-1 and the ABCG-1. these two dudes then up-regulate D. The D then up-regulates the dp-ucMGP on the macrophage aka foam cell surface. beta hdl then shows up with MK7 attached to it which in turn carboxylates the MGP. the carboxylated MGP then allows for the beta hdl to attach itself to the foam cell with the help of CoQ10 also carried on the beta hdl. a fun fact is that the beta hdl is also carrying miRNA to aid in killing the cell. the carboxylated MGP then stimulates the Fetuin-A to come in only in the presence of sufficient Magnesium. now, the above is the readers digestion version of reverse calcium transport. carboxylated MGP also allows for VLDL and LDL to go in and kill the foam cell in the presence of vitamin c. 1 Reply AppleRunner AppleRunner 3 months ago While I think that your video was directionally correct, I think some items were not a fully accurate reflection of the balance of evidence. For example, O6 fats are not “bad”, they are essential - you cannot live without them. The problem is when you eat them in excess or in junk food. Same for Saturated fat. There are no trials which show that O6 oils cause inflammation in humans. Trials in humans have so far shown no effect. Mouse trials do not necessarily translate into humans. The argument: Coconut oil is extremely high in saturated fat — about 50 percent more than butter, even. But despite that saturated fat is known to raise cholesterol levels, linked with heart disease risk, proponents believe that some saturated fats in coconut oil (called medium-chain triglycerides) are less harmful and may actually raise levels of beneficial HDL cholesterol. The reality: Coconut oil has been shown to raise cholesterol levels — the good and the bad kinds — more than other plant-based oils like olive or canola. And in truth, medium-chain triglycerides make up only a small amount of the fatty acids in coconut oil. Plus, while other heart-healthy fats like olive oil, canola oil, or omega-3 fatty acids in nuts and seafood have been supported by a large body of evidence, coconut oil's supposed benefits still haven't been proved in large-scale human research. 5 Reply Michigan Foot Doctors · 2 replies Mike G Mike G 2 months ago lots of other Doctors are now saying that LDL is not a great indicator. More fruit is fantastically BAD ADVICE! If you have fruit, it should be berries which are lowest in FRUCTOSE. Fructose is for making us fat for winter, and nature only provides them in late summer or fall I believe for this reason. Eating fruit to lose weight or get healthy is completely misguided advice. It’s SUGAR. Also, “Cholesterol” doesn’t cause problems. Your body can make two lbs of it a day. LDL isn’t “bad” cholesterol, it’s required by your body. LOW levels of LDL is very bad and more highly associated with heart attacks than high LDL. The real problem is small dense particles which you get primarily by eating sugar and crappy carbohydrates like bread, pasta, flour, wheat, all the stuff people are literally addicted to so the food producers put it in all the prepared foods because they sell better as everyone’s bony craves carbohydrate since it leads to weight gain which long ago predicted survival. It no longer does, but mankind has only eaten carbohydrates for a few thousand years. Alcohol is more like carbohydrate, than anything else. I agree, 2-3 drinks per day would be a healthy limit. Finally, best way to lose weight, by far, is a low carbohydrate or keto diet. LDL may go up, but that is not a problem, especially if you are losing weight, which you will, if you stick to eating primarily meat and (low starch, no potatoes) vegetables.
