While studying the effects of gasses on the brains of Navy Seal divers, he developed an approach for metabolically starving cancer cells through diet and compressed oxygen, replacing chemotherapy, surgery, or radiation. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. Audrey Fischer Audrey Fischer 7 years ago Excellent research! Keep it up! 41 years ago 3 different hospitals predicted I had 3 months to live because of a melon-sized teratoma at the age of my 19th birthday. Surgery removed the tumor, however, they recommended NOT to go through chemotherapy because no one at that time had ever beaten this disease at that time-- and that I should enjoy the final 3 months of my life with my family. That was totally unacceptable. A fourth hospital took my case. After 2 years of chemo the exploratory surgery showed the cancer was totally gone. Now, I wonder was it the chemo that saved me or the fasting I did for 3-4 days in a row per month x 2 years. It turns out that during chemo, I got nausea so acutely, that I could not eat nor even smell food, without throwing up-- even on an empty tummy. The one drug that could ease nausea caused my throat to close/tongue swell within minutes of the injection. So, of course, I just dealt with nausea. Now, I wonder if the nausea was the God-send. . . because it meant to fasting 3-4 days in a row, monthly x 2 years. This fasting starved my cancer cells of glucose. Btw, I'm still strong at 61-- for a person that wasn't expected to live past 19 years. 1.9K Reply 101 replies Lisa Burke Lisa Burke 6 years ago As someone who recently lost a friend to cancer, I wish I knew this years ago. Of course, she never told me it was cancer for a couple of years, and I am grateful that after being given a few months to live that she lasted several years. Still, the medicine she took caused her weight to balloon. If I knew of fasting, I would have encouraged it if only to see her better and still have her here. I wish at some point a doctor mentioned it. I plan to switch to a fasting lifestyle. Modern medicnrecan be such BS at times, caring more about making money than the best treatment (especially, if it's 100% free and costs nothing). 46 Reply 1 reply Erin Starodub Erin Starodub 7 years ago Dr.Dominic thank you so much for all of your hard work! I have listened to a lot of your interviews, and your work is such an inspiration. I experiment with myself in Keto all the time, I hope to find out why it was so hard for your keno-adaptation (because mine has been brutal is well) Your so polite, its so funny to me that people keep getting your name wrong- and you dont correct them! Please keep up the great work! 15 Reply Art Flores Art Flores 3 years ago My mom was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes. Her A1C at its peak was 9 and the chemo treatment landed her on her death bed. We were told to start planning her funeral and she would never walk again. She walked out of the hospital a year later. She lost 45 pounds in the hospital but regained them back and more and her cancer began getting bad again. I began doing research. Put her on the ketogenic diet and began natural supplements. Her A1C is now 5.9, kidney function is better, and cancer is slowly diminishing. Every one of her doctors are shocked and have told her they have never in their career seen such improvement, but do you think they have ever asked what she is doing to get better? She is doing well and has lost 80 pounds. I’m a firm believer that sugar feeds cancer. 63 Reply 22 replies Sam tron Sam tron 6 years ago Love your work mate. It saved a few of my loved ones' health, some very serious, when I practiced on them what I learnt from Dr. D early 2013. one of my loved ones, who's a SEAL for 14 years himself, didn't know about this experiment but now is also cutting on his carb intake. But being young and heavily trained, he wasn't aware of the damaging effect of carb on him. Please spread the good words! I truly hope that this method will be used throughout the medical field to treat cancer one day. Nobody deserves to go through the horrors of chemotherapy and live out the last few months of their lives this way. I cannot imagine the pain they must go through while receiving this treatment. I hope that this diet will be an alternative to chemotherapy one day. It is truly fascinating how much of an impact your diet can have on your overall health. It affects so much more than just your body weight. Epilepsy and cancer are horrific diseases that are many times treated with powerful drugs and the fact that something as simple as changing your diet could have this big of an impact is so amazing to me. I hope that in the future, the science of ketones lead to more medical breakthroughs. 6 Reply Presence Presence 4 years ago Bless this guy. What I was curious about is the gut microbiome of those with this condition. It would be cool to know what their biota measures like before and after the introduction of the diet that reduces / eliminates the seizures. I ask this because I am wondering if the changes in organisms in the gut producing (or reducing) by products of digestion have anything to do with this problem. For example, if one particular species increases with the new diet, could supplementation of the species alone or in addition to the diet help the seizures. 7 Reply Donald Rees Donald Rees 1 year ago I switched over to the keto genic diet six months ago after my doctor suggested I do that because of my PSA numbers. I stuck to it and after the six months I went back for another blood test and the PSA had dropped significantly. But even if it hadn’t I am so happy about the lack of inflammation that I have anymore. As a 70 year old active guy, arthritis has been slowly creeping into the picture. It is very upsetting that the medical community just refuses to give the patient the info they need, and let the cancer patient decide. Are they really trying to cure cancer, or just protecting their own little world. Is it just the lack of sugar and ketogenic diet that would be able to clear out the cancer? I love this research that has been done and look forward to reading/hearing more about the ketogenic diet because what it's sounding like is that there are a lot of positive aspects, but are there any downsides? Another question that I hope someone could answer is how long would it take to "cure" a disease like cancer or epilepsy via the ketogenic diet? I've always believed that most of the cures for our illnesses can be found in nature and seeing this video reaffirms my belief in that. Keep up the good work and keep asking the important questions. 6 Reply Belle Belle 5 years ago Hey Doc, Your presentation covers a lot of ground in a short time. Well done. My question is ... are ketones really an “alternative” fuel source? Or are they the better fuel source. I know I am picking at wording, ‘alternative’ makes it sound abnormal. In truth, aren’t high carbs abnormal for the human body in comparison to how our ancient ancestors lived before farming and prepackaged foods? This is definitely not an argument ... left only as a consideration for those who stumble across it. Keep up the good work Sir! 3 Reply Billy Mitchell Billy Mitchell 1 year ago WOW!!! I think it was the ketones. She was on them for about 2 months and then her parents forgot or decided not to give her the ketones. She began to start twitching. They upped her meds and they stopped. Reply SciSci SciSci 7 years ago As a method of healing cancer, I don't understand how Keto can negate the fact that you eat eggs/meat/dairy and these animal proteins increase IGF1 which increases chances of cancer growth, so unless there is something that protects or stops IGF1 from affecting growth. do the fats stop this? And also if someone coming from a vegan or very low protein diet swithes to keto doesn't this tax the kidneys? I was diagnosed with cholesterolosis (gallbladder polyps made from cholesterol on the GB wall) last year and last month diagnosed with Fatty Liver and so now my strategy is to severely restrict my carb intake so that my liver will start to use up this fat in my liver, I was just worried about my kidneys and cancer, seeing as animal proteins will increase IGF1, so I just don't understand how keto diets or eating animal protein help protects against cancer I always thought IGF1 increases the chances of cancer. I want to reduce my feeding window to about 5 to 7hrs so basically I will be fasting everyday, I'm not doing a full fast because I have been taking meds for 20yrs (paxil and prilosec - tapering slowly off these drugs now) and so can't fast whilst on these meds. I want to be taking 800cal per day in two meals, I did see a documentary of one guy who did this and reversed his fatty liver (with before and after scans for proof) he followed this 800cal very low carb diet and reached his goal after two months, obviously can't ingest too many fats as they'll send you over 800cal quickly. What I don't understand is that some diets like the McDougall and Gerson don't include any animal proteins, as they say they drive cancer growth and yet keto says that their way can heal cancer, I don't get it, can anybody explain please. 6 Reply 36 replies Daniel Ensor Daniel Ensor 4 years ago My high school honey has some kind of cancer and I believe the answer lies here. The systemic (whole body) effects however, are physically and physiologically distant from the lungs and therefore are more difficult to understand. The multi-system, wide spread systemic ramifications of chronic hyperventilation are numerous. These effects are all caused by the initial effect of pulmonary hypocapnia (low CO2) which causes spasm of the airways leading to asthma. The loss of CO2 from the lung on a long term basis causes a compensatory response throughout the body. This concept is called homeostasis which means that the body is always trying to stay in balance and return to its most comfortable state. A partial list of homeostatic controls would include: - Constant body temperature - Constant whole body water volume - Glucose levels - Mineral balance including sodium, potassium, magnesium, zinc etc. - Acid base balance (Ph control) The acid base/Ph control mechanisms are very sensitive and closely controlled, because the Ph of the body affects the function of every body system. It is this system that is activated when patients chronically hyperventilate. Understanding this concept, we can follow what happens with CHV. - The lungs continuously blow off too much CO2 causing local pulmonary hypocapnia (low CO2) and arterial hypocapnia. - The arterial hypocapnia immediately changes the Ph of the circulating blood causing an increase in the Ph (alkalosis). - The increase in the Ph causes a decrease in the delivery of Oxygen to all the bodies tissues due to the Bohr Effect (In an alkalotic environment, the hemoglobin molecules in the red cells hold onto the oxygen molecules more tightly and will not release the O2 to the tissues). - The kidneys see the alkalosis/Ph change and know that it must correct the bodies Ph back towards neutral (neutral Ph is a Ph of 7.40). Once CHV becomes long standing the kidneys response becomes an ongoing process in which the kidneys excrete bicarbonate in an attempt to correct the alkalosis which was created by the CHV. - The net result is a depletion of the bicarbonate buffers due to continuous over excretion of bicarbonate which also causes the loss of electrolytes including magnesium and phosphorous which are lost with the bicarbonate. - The loss of phosphorous also decreases the production of ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate) and ADP which are the bodies’ main source of energy. - This then causes a decrease in the functioning of many organs including the muscles, heart, lungs, bone marrow, immune system and liver. - These functional changes, coupled with the arterial spasm that occurs directly due to the low CO2 levels in the blood, are expressed in the long term as muscle fatigue, hypertension due to arterial spasm, decrease in the oxygenation of the brain, migraine headaches due to arterial spasm, spasm of the arteries supplying the gut, decrease brain function with memory changes, alterations in the production of proteins and metabolism of lipids in the liver causing elevated cholesterol. This is just a partial list of the systems, organs and bodily functions which are affected by CHV and the subsequent low CO2 levels in the lungs and blood. This concept regarding the origins and causes of these diseases is very radically different from the way medical schools teach about these diseases. It is revolutionary and may be too simple for many academicians to accept or understand. 1 Reply Dr.Milodinow Dr.Milodinow 3 years ago Amazing, thanks for the video Reply Ben CyBer Ben CyBer 7 months ago most exciting moment : why body is so healthy , never fall sick 😊 Any 1 interested in this vision, is the most interesting trend,... physical, emotional, environmental engineering Reply Cindy Cindy 4 years ago That’s amazing. When we hyperventilate (breathe more than the medical norm), we cannot improve oxygen content in the hemoglobin of the arterial blood (red blood cells are about 98% saturated with oxygen during tiny normal breathing). 2. Overbreathing reduces the CO2 concentration in the arterial blood causing a constriction of arteries and arterioles since CO2 is a powerful vasodilator. Hence, hyperventilation results in reduced perfusion and oxygen supply (confirmed by tens of published medical studies) for the liver, brain, heart, kidneys, stomach, colon, and other vital organs. 3. The reduced CO2 value in the tissues produces a shift in the O2 dissociation curve to the left. This leads to the so-called shallow or suppressed Bohr effect (a reduced O2 release by red blood cells in the capillaries). Therefore, the more a cancer patient breathes beyond the norm, the less oxygen is provided for the heart, brain, kidneys, liver, and other vital organs. Reduced cellular oxygenation leads to anaerobic mitochondrial metabolism, elevated lactic acid values, the formation of free radicals, and cell acidosis or a lowered pH in cells. On the contrary, CO2 is a chemical that is needed for tumor treatment, as numerous studies on carbogen use in cancer indications. Since the growth of tumors depends on one’s body oxygen level, chronic hyperventilation promotes the growth of malignant cells and metastasis. Therefore, breathing normalization and the correction of risk lifestyle factors must be a central part of any successful anti-cancer program or cancer cure. There is in fact resistance to these drugs now. Some patients treated with Vemurafenib had cancer free for a couple of months and the cancer came back and kill them. Imatinib (or Gleevec) was not too effective in vivo, it made a huge impact, but sadly, the disease still came back. The only thing that might be able to kill 100% cancer is cancer immunotherapy, and this has been demonstrated. This is possible because the immune system is very dynamic, and we use this dynamicity to against the dynamicity of cancer cells, which make it possible to eliminate cancer 100%! But still pretty early to say anything! 10 Reply 15 replies Gabriella Klein Gabriella Klein 3 years ago You say that cancer cells get oxygen from the angionesis blood supply. How, then, do you explain the fact that hyperbaric oxygen treatments can cure stage four cancer? And Ozone treatments stop cancer from recurring? I thought cancer cells were anaerobic. 2 Reply 1 reply GARYINLEEDS GARYINLEEDS 3 years ago Thanks for sharing, shared.
