I like how Shawn Baker frames this. He says that we can't prove a carnivore diet (or lack of a carnivore diet) will increase your lifespan, but he says that they can guarantee taking you from a sick miserable state to a healthy state and living a better life today. What other evidence do you need?

I COMPLETELY agree with you. I used to be a vegan and did all the things you were supposed to do and I just got sicker and sicker. I went carnivore and gained my life back. I could barely walk across the floor and now I am vibrant and can cycle 80 - 100 miles a week. What life is a sick life? It's no life and like you, I wouldn't trade it for anything! I also agree that long-term keto is not the best. I find I thrive and have better athletic performance with MINIMAL carbs. I am highly oxalate sensitive so have learned what few carbs I can add for variety. I also have to watch my protein intake. Too much causes some issues for me as well. It's all about knowing ourselves. Thank you Paul for being willing to shift, evolve, grow and admit it. We can't be so rigid that we don't expand and do what's best. Go meat! :)

Dr Radical! I've read your books, watched your vids and changed my families lives. You aren't the only doc I watch, but you are among the top. I put my cat and dogs on raw meat and organ diet and have extended their health span, as well. 17yr old cat that went from frail to formidable in a short time. 🥩💪🤙

Literally laughed when I saw this. Couldn’t have been more perfectly timed.
I thought I’d look into David as I keep seeming him everywhere, and I felt like he was just pushing another Steven Gundry perspective and I was like…..how can this guy be the worlds leading longevity specialist when there’s so much of your work which stands in the face of it.
Thank you for doing this, Paul.

I have watched many of Sinclair's videos. I think he is spot on with the mTOR, sirtuins, fasting, ect. data. However, it appears he is missing a few links in the chain and he often is spins epidemiological plant-based studies to fit his narrative. One example is his support for NAD, but then failure to notice that the NAD cycle is fuled by B3, which is almost exclusively found in animal foods, especially liver. (it is found in peanut butter too, but likely locked up in plant defense chemicals). I also like how you highlight that insulin spikes mTOR more than leucine. No one talks about that!
Thank you Paul for sticking to the science, avoiding dogma, and following the logic! I can't believe you had him on, but it is yet another example of how open minded you are!

Let Food be thy medicine and Medicine be thy food- needs more nuance for these times. A whole new approach to what exactly is food for daily nourishment and what is medicine for short term use. Great videos and ideas as always, Paul! Thanks for the work you are doing to revolutionize our understanding of these topics

Hey Paul, i hope you get to read this comment and may be quickly respond in a short video or here in comment section. Before i discovered you channel i used to listen to all these doctors like David Sinclair, Stephen Gundry and others mostly keto advocates. Since i found your products and educational content along with it i decided to change my diet that i was following for about 7-8 years. I stopped taking leafy greens and mostly all the raw veggies and almost stopped taking resveretrol, Quertcetin and Berberine. Those were my main hormetic stressors. I still used the fermented vegetables. Paul when you say these things are medicines not food and should not be taken long term made sense. As i play sports multiple times a week I started with supplement immuno milk. i also started eating sweeter fruits like pineapple, papaya and mango along with honey. I always stayed away from sweet stuff cause i was told that viruses and bacteria feeds off from sugar in the body. I was very excited to see the result of my new diet but unfortunately i got caught with a bad viral Flu and got very weak. I must mention i didn't get affected by any virus including covid for past 7-8 years. In this situation i am confused about by diet plan. What is the carnivore code to fend against these viral flu. Now i am thinking of cutting back on sugars and bring back some of the hormetic stressors. I am getting a feeling that for urban centres where these viral flu is vicious kids getting sick almost every next week its a good strategy keep some low on sugars and have some hormetic stressors in every day life. I would love to get a feedback from Paul and with anyone who has similar experience

I am my own blue zone. I am an insulin sensitive, fat adapted fat burner producing ketones. My liver makes all the glucose I need. Calorie restriction just comes naturally. I do one meal a day and extended multiday fasting every 5 or 6 weeks.

Loving this talk it’s great to hear these like minded researchers. I don’t think MD’s care as much about patients in my experience. My goodness I went to a gastroenterologist recently and wasn’t even palpated on the table. I sat across from doctor and his computer and given a prescription refill again…

There are Societies that had longer life spans on Vegetarian ( not Vegan) diets like the Jains in India and there should definitely have been some that did the same on meat based diets. Sinclair is talking about how the amino acid sensing mTOR when kept active at higher number of times would be detrimental for longevity due to epigenetic damage. He is not biased and not talking about cutting meat completely. He is just saying you shouldn't be eating too much of it. It might shackle some beliefs particularly in those where their life has got significantly better with Carnivore diet. But we ought to keep an open mind to science. I am looking at many comments saying 'oh he is a researcher he doesn't know anything about diet'. Do you think the so called Dietitians, Nutritionists and most Doctors know anything about diet and nutrition for that matter!? Atleast this man knows the hormonal response and how your epigenome changes based on what you eat which is far more than anyone can ever know. Just be humble in your approach to learn guys. Please!! Keep being a Carnivore if it works for you and believe in it. But respect what this man has to say.

Thanks for the update Dr! Even at the young age of 60 something I have friends (that I’ve tried to convert to carnivore) that have to limit their activities and they just attribute it to getting older. I feel bad when I picture them in their 70s and 80s… I intend on taking care of myself till the very end, with no medications, walkers or diapers!
Side note; so do you wear contacts now? Or has this lifestyle improved your eyesight?

This is what I was looking for! After watching the first 2 episodes of Lifespan and shaking my head "Noooooo" through out I was wanting a rebuttal. David Sinclair was totally spanked here and a few things came to mind: one is I feel like Sinclair might be biased toward his research which is understandable but not scientific, the other is that maybe he is a part of the 'opposing ' agenda. Third Yes, you CAN do something about epigenetics. Lastly, I think if you are carnivore you're not going to eat a lot/often and IF comes naturally which negates the mTor/AMPK cycle.
Personally, I was a vegetarian for 10 years and became so very sick. My TCM practitioner said I was totally depleted and I needed to eat meat, after some debate I started with bone broth and it was like elixir of the gods and I've never looked back 👍

I can't absorb all the details and I spend too much time in front of the computer, but I love your open mind. I'm still trying to figure out what to eat and I'll see what the cardiologist says when he sees my cholesterol has gone up from eating lots of red meat (and a few organs). Dr. Paul would you consider interviewing someone like Dr. John Douillard who promotes Ayurveda and wrote that book "Eat Wheat"? Thanks for all you put out. Probably mind set is more important than anything we put in mouth actually, within reason.

Regarding how Sinclair mentioned the study in mice with BCAAs, this probably wouldn't have occurred if using EAAs. There are many other studies that had already shown high BCAAs as bad. So it is specific to the type of aminos - EAAs would have likely shown the opposite to be beneficial as other studies have already shown.

I'm leaning more towards Dr. Sinclair's research. But I do like Dr. Saladino's challenging view. I just wish they could both give more time to talk w/no interruptions & to show or talk about 1 study, that study being themselves. We can talk bout rats or other animals but I see these 2 doctors are Living what they preach! This is the perfect research study to show off your own work. So Sinclair vs Saladino on reviewing their inner age thru a series of different tests. That'll be more convincing.

Anecdotally I can say since starting a life style in an animal base diet 2 years ago, I have gotten younger? What? Thee only way to describe it. I am stronger without doing any strength training, my hair has begun darkening and getting thicker. I still have thin hair but there was a time I was nearly bald and was very grey. Darker hair, more hair? I was taking 8 different medications 2 for high blood pressure, a statin, 3 for type 2 diabetes, 1 for acid reflux/gourd and 1 for depression. I take no more medication and have reversed type 2 diabetes. No more depression, no more chest pain, no more high blood pressure. I can go on, so many cool things that are still happening. So does this prolong life? I would be dead or in a care facility before I made it to 52. I feel better now than in my 20's. Still healing, 20 plus years of abuse to myself some due to ignorance and some due to poor choices it does not completely heal over night. Red meat? Was beaten into my head, bad for diabetes, bad for health. Okay to the people that think that, red meat saved my life. Paul is one of several Doctors who have contributed to me saving my life, thanks! My wife uses bone matrix she started a month ago, her joint pain, mostly her knees is gone! I mean it is gone! I purchased some for me today get it tomorrow, I will have mine and she has hers!

I wonder if the same alternate day modulation would be beneficial for taking Tahitian Noni. The compound in Noni, grapes and other medicinal stressed plants are iridoids. Resveratrol is an iridoid. Tahitian Noni has the highest iridoid levels and has been revered as a plant medicine for thousands of years.

My 79 year young buddy just picked up his Tesla Plaid in Jacksonville. Full Self Driving will complete his peace about aging and his mind. Starches and whole grains make my vision blurry and make my skin break out in nasty rashes. Consider the diet of an Eagle and the miles of clarity it has when searching for animals to eat. Greens constipate my wife and I. I study our bowel movements almost daily. 90% lean quality meat can constipate us as well. Great interview. Lots of notes gentlemen. Radical💩!

Funny that immediately after saying he envies physicists, he says that he has the strong gut feeling that aging comes with the loss of information. It's funny because the second law of thermodynamics, one of the most fundamental insights in the whole of physics, can be phrased in terms of information, and it's that information is lost with the passage of time; that irreversible processes are those in which information is somehow destroyed. It would make physical sense for aging to come with an associated loss of information like he suggests
I'm a physicist, and while many people like to say that entropy is a measure of disorder, this is really inexact use of language. Much more precisely, entropy is information that no one has access to about any given system. The statement that entropy increases as a function of time is completely equivalent to the statement that the total amount of information in the universe that no one has access to grows with the passage of time. In other words, information is lost over time

This was a very interesting video, I liked hearing both perspectives. I was a little disappointed to see the host, Paul Saladino, sort of knowledge bombing David Sinclair. In other words it was a bit of a one sided conversation where Saladino brought up topics, explained them, and asked Sinclair to confirm them. If Sinclair does not come back on the podcast it may be because of this dynamic. I would love to see these two have another conversation though because with two starkly opposing views there will be something to learn.
Side note. I find it funny that the host has ”salad” in his last name.

I really feel he has a bias against meat and this was clear when he seem dubious on Pauls reports of EPA data

So all of this is such new thinking for my generation, my son in law is the one that got me listening to this, my question …. Is it to late at our age to turn the tide for my husband and I age 62 and 65, my husband has always tried to eat “healthy” simply because he wanted to be around to raise our large family, but has noticed a decreased amount of strength and energy. He is African American, has high blood pressure ( he was able to get off of high blood pressure medication for a while when he went vegetarian for two months) but lost too much weight and strength. But he hates taking blood pressure medication that’s the only medication he takes. He does have a lot of joint pain, he is a hard worker truck driver. But has been showing signs of decreased kidney function based on the creatinine levels in his blood and struggles with borderline diabetes, whatever those levels go up he does whatever he can to get them back down. I would love to see him get his vitality back. So is it too late for us?

I also have a tone of respect for David and his work. But as a sensible human being, I can only feel that this man is so sad inside. I don't see the passion for life, energy nor liveliness in this speech, attitude, stance. You can feel that in the person, he looks deprived. And the way of eating he speaks about, I tried almost 20 years ago. And that doesn't work for women nor for any adult that wants to live fully and have a family.
In my humble opinion, he suggests starvation. And that gentleman thrives on supplements.

How can it be that this Holy book had this information around 632 AD and the benefits. You are probably right, we should use this as medicine only.

How can we follow a low-carb diet (as gluten and starch are proven to be
some of the strongest triggers of inflammation and disease) while
avoiding meat and still getting enough high-quality protein?
I guess once again, the only true answer (considering all points of view) is BALANCE.
Something between Keto and Mediterranean diet would be optimal - not too much animal fat&protein (Keto) and not too much grains (Mediterranean).
Everything else, sticks - lots of non-starchy veggies, some fruit, lots of nuts & seed, legumes, fish and good oils (avocados, olive oil, flax, ghee), low GI grains (buckwheat, quinoa, barley, wild rice, einkorn), and some (preferably fermented) dairy.
Drink - water, some coffee and tea, and a glass of red wine.

If calorie restriction "always leads to extended lifespans" then why is un/under treated anorexia one of the deadliest psychiatric illnesses? We're talking about slow suicide that leads to an average age of death of 56 in females - a whopping 25 years earlier than the general public. And, the word average signals that many in the dataset are dying far younger. Average age of onset is 15 in females (meaning the seeds are planted even younger).
And before someone jumps in and says "it's all about balance" I would counter that due to psychologic and societal factors, ANY degree of calorie restriction is probably inappropriate for the vast majority of females in their pre-menopausal years under age 50. That, with obvious exceptions for medically supervised (not online, peer "Ana" sites) of very specific conditions.
Same basic statements for male anorexics and "big-orexics" although the statistics are not as striking.

what does heme iron from organ meats all have in common? Copper.
quite possible both Sinclair and Saladino are "right" in their perspectives: Iron overload is a serious thing (Sinclair) and "excess" iron isn't a big deal (Saladino) with the deciding factor being ferroxidase function and metabolic health provided by Ceruloplasmin. Copper.
the difference in opinion might also be explained by different goals or definitions of health. Many don't distinguish between vitality in terms of virility/fertility or vitality in terms of lifespan/longevity and there may indeed be a huge difference in which lifestyles are most effective toward either aim. It may be a trade-off the body has to make. If Saladino were 55yo instead of 30s/40s (Sorry Paul, not sure how old you are. lookin' good tho!) he may have an entirely different perspective, as Ray Cronise has an entirely different perspective. [check out Cronise on Dr. Rhonda Patrick's podcast from years ago]

I once watched a video of Sinclair talking about nutrition regarding longevity and he said that one day he went out and had fried chicken and he felt horrible.. He lost all respect from me right there and then. Chicken (worst meat to have), fried (in vegetable oil), probably with chips and a coke. That's how he thought he tried carnivore/animal based and then didn't like the idea. I couldn't believe it, for a professor of biology that advocates for health and longevity of humans, he compared animal foods with plant foods this way.. I don't know if it was lack of knowledge, or profits behind it but no matter what, people are actually listening to him and he 's got some pull.

Sinclair made a profound statement at 1:55:01 , he said that is what mTor is designed for. This is the opposite of what evolutionist teach. The evolutionist claims that things just evolved. But they did not. All things were designed. This truthful statement by Sinclair speaks to his character.

1:58:00 environment and meat:
i have to look up it again and i am not pro or contra. but from what i heard and know for cattle its especially methane which is the problem.
I just heard it from friends who are good with this calculation stuff and some of them used to calculate such stuff. also calculating such carbon footprints or life cycle analysis is very complicated.
if you just refer to regenerative agriculture…. if you not transport the meat through the whole country or abroad, it’s probably much more ecological than normal meat. Cause the soil is binding CO2 and you plant flower and biodiversity for insects or other beings. Good soil also help erosion. For Europe the most ecological- or meat-protein might be wild boar, cause it’s has no predator and is damaging the forest in to large scales. But that meat in general is very ecological I haven’t heard. Probably in small scale organic or permaculture-style farming, without much transportation but I doubt that it very ecological for the masses.
Edit:
It would be interesting if you could make a interview with a scientist on this topic and debate on this. And not someone who has your opinion, but rather someone who has the opinion you try argue against it.

I betcha any diet is human healthy as long as highly processed (not homemade bread— one researcher claimed homemade sourdough bread was a longevity food! ) foods and high sugar consumption is avoided. I’ve met vegans who live almost entirely on carbs—— pasta, white rice, etc, and actually eat very few green vegetables because they don’t actually like the green vegetables!😂. Obviously, there are healthy carnivores and healthy vegans, so no point in pushing one diet—- though I do wonder if a carnivore can maintain health for 95 years…..

Meat is great, if your FADS gene is the right type. Match your diet with your genes. Longevity in a sickly starving state is not ideal. Your immune system will tank. You are just not going to be robust enough against the elements. Maintaining your proteostasis is more important than anything else.

One thing that we know for sure is that humans are not carnivores, by nature. No primates are carnivores. And that fact alone refutes Saladino's hypothesis that the carnivore diet is the ideal diet for all humans.

Where are the long term studies that show people eating a lot of meat live longer than the general population? Because the seventh day Adventists in Loma Linda are the longest living demographic in this country, and they are pesco-vegetarian, vegetarian, and vegan.
I don't think red meat accelerates aging, but it is disease promoting, which can kill you before your time from heart disease, cancer, diabetes etc.... I never heard of studies saying beans promote heart disease, cancer, or diabetes.
Vegetarians, and vegans don't tend to living longer because plants slow aging, they live longer because they don't get taken out prematurely by diseases as much.

I love listening to Sinclair, but seriously he barely had a chance to speak. I would say that this wasn’t really an interview, but rather Saladino trying to impress the audience by randomly calling out various research results but without a clear message. overexcited and somewhat disorganized interview style not tailored to an audience. Fortunately, many more Sinclair interviews on other channels plus his own new podcast Lifespan. Still thanks for sharing but definitely room for improvement.

vegans having low quality sperm sounds wrong. maybe its only strict vegans that dont use any dairy? Most of india is vegan+dairy and their birth rate is very high. I find it interesting that longevity and vitality is being considered the same thing but they might not. it might turn out that less vital and bad at reproduction people live longer. it would make evolutionary sense as well since if the animal is living longer it doesnt need to reproduce as often to keep the population up. im doing meat based diet recently and dropping fat easier than ever before and feel more healthy overall but is it good for long term is also my topic of interest.

Typical Carinivore lol yeah your smarter than a scientist that has been studying this the last 20 years. I have been a full on Carnivore since birth..I eat meat (high quality) every other day and actually did the carnivore diet for 1 year eating meat everyday. and sometimes everyday...Yes you feel strong and satiated but is it really good for you?....I took blood tests before I went full Carnivore and 6months in and 1 year done. My iron and Ferritin levels were insane and far to high. My inflammation markers also increased. I have now done 1 full year with only eating once per day and I eat meat only once per week....mixing that with correct breathing and cold therapy I feel better than I did when I was 20 (currently 52), and my blood work is now on point...I want to be here for the long term for my family and not be selfish feeling like a million dollars everyday, when infact with the right balance and lifestyle you can feel a lot better than eating meat everyday.......maybe you need to do an actual experiment on yourself to understand your own body.

Hello buddy, the difference between you and David is that he knows how to read studies and he does not have a bias, while you pick out single studies that backs your bias. I would recommend going vegan for you because it’s shown to decrease mortality and is much more sustainable than a carnivore diet.

Me as an European wondering and laughing.i mean you teach nutrition from studies not from real life, ppl go either hard-core vegan smashing smoothies or carnivore.here in France,Greece,Italy,Germany we eat a diet in high quality food,we have a long tradition eating together, cooking together .and we ear meat and carbs together, lol and also loooooooots of vegetables.,potatoes, bread ,drinking wine and the majority, well especially the generation over 40 is pretty healthy.so I think you in the US never experienced traditional eating,cooking.....and that there is a lot more to health than obsessing about diet....you also live in Lala land sitting in Costa Rica, and promoting your diet.lets see if you had to feed a family of 9 and grow your own food .now I will enjoy my rhubarb cake with high oxalate which is a tradition here.

I dont understand why everyone keep talking about fasting an entire day, not eating carbs and what not. Why can't eat everything in moderation. I eat pretty much daily everything exept sweets. I will have a piece of cake on weekends but then if im not gonna be hungry at night i will just have a steak ad some veggies but if i will be hungry, if i will have the need of carbs to complete my day, heck im gonna make myself some pasta, potatoes or rice. Nowadays people are seriosly overcomplicating things. We have all the information we need, we know eating fast food is not good we have every information we need.

Does Red Meat Accelerate Aging? simple answer is !no! it doesn't and never will. what can cause ageing? malnutrition, a vegan diet, an inflammatory diet such as a SADiet. and actual prolonged starvation. but ageing is not the same as a prolonged or shortened lifespan. i believe you can shorten your life by bad diets, but i don't believe you can lengthen it. let's assume everyone's lifespan is over 120 years, ad i actually believe it is, but people eating the wrong foods and doing unhealthy things damage their bodies and shorten this lifespan.
