It's a multi-billion dollar battle for your belly. Millions of people are joining the anti-wheat revolution.
Kellogg's, the world's largest cereal maker, has seen its biggest drop in sales since the 1970s. Food companies are selling off their struggling bread divisions. It's all because best-selling health evangelists say that wheat is causing everything from fat bellies to schizophrenia. But do they have science on their side? Mark Kelley takes a hard look at what's driving a movement that is dramatically changing the way we eat.

Everyone who is serious about this should look at the evidence available and then draw their own conclusions. My friend recommended going off wheat so I tried it for four months. The drop in inflammation in my joints was dramatic, but it took that long. I wasn't even doing it for that reason, I was doing it because I wanted to lose weight. I don't know if it helped for the weight loss, but the sharp drop in joint inflammation was enough to make me swear off wheat forever. I personally don't give a rats banana what other people think about it, I did it for my own health and happiness.

I had major stomach issues for 28 years, which inadvertently affected other parts of my health. I saw Specialist after Specialist to no avail. I went gluten free, dairy free and sugar free and within 1 week I was cured. I wish Doctors told me this 28 years ago! I’m not saying this will work for everyone, but it most definitely worked for me.

My 10 year battle with palm eczema, cracked and bleeding, was finally healing after 72 hours on a wheat free diet and was completely healed within 30 days. It may not be the gluten but perhaps the glyphosate or other chemicals or additives. Another small patch of eczema on the back of my neck started oozing clear pus and itching within an hour of ordering seasoned french fries at a drive through. Sure enough, I check the ingredients in the seasoning = WHEAT! My body had been crying out to me for years and I just did not understand the language my cells were speaking. I lost 20 pounds in 2 months even though I was consuming more calories than ever, trying to compensate for the calories I knew I was giving up.

What this documentary doesn't reference is that glyphosate specifically binds to the gluten protein. This is described in plenty of scientific literature. A lot of the negative reactions to gluten are not caused by gluten per se, but by glyphosate.

When I eat commercial brands of bread, I can have digestive issues. If I bake my own bread using just 5 ingredients (flour, water, yeast, salt and sugar which can be optional) I have no digestive issues. I personally believe our intolerance to modern wheat products, comes not from the wheat, but from the huge amount of additives put into bread and other wheat baked goods. When reading an ingredient list it should take seconds not minutes. It should include words you can pronounce, not an entire list of scientific names, many of which are stabilizers and preservatives to make products more shelf stable.

I have been trying to reverse my
pre-diabetes for the past six months.
I have lost 10kg in weight, and am feeling better in many ways.
By avoiding wheat containing food, I have reduced my carbohydrate consumption, and I am now able to keep my glucose levels relatively low when compared to previously.
My HbA1c level has come down, as has my insulin levels, since I have also been doing intermittent fasting.
I am a new man !! (Aged 80!!)
Unless we are all able to grasp the nettle, the epidemic of obesity, metabolic syndrome, Type 2 Diabetes and all the other diseases that Dr. Davis mentioned, are likely to continue to spiral out of control, without Mainstream Medicine, and and hence Governments, knowing what they should do about it.
I am a retired GP in GB, and I was not aware of what was happening to my health.
In this country, fasting insulin levels are not routinely measured, despite the fact that they can be gradually increasing over 10 -15 years, and be associated with the Health difficulties that are now so blindingly obvious.
Dr. Davis is prepared to speak his mind, and I commend him for this. All power to your elbow William !!

Just 4 years ago out of nowhere I developed severe IBS, later on after cutting out dairy and wheat products my issue got drastically better. And yet I tested negative to celiac disease and even did a colonoscopy to find my intestines in perfect condition. I believe this new wheat is in fact destroying our microbiome.

You've always got to ask: "Who funded this study, this presentation, this book?" If you were confused after watching this -- that is sufficient. Disinformation is meant to get you 1.) trusting nothing you hear and 2.) getting you to revert to old ways -- be they smoking, eating ice cream, eating wheat or whatever. As for this instance, why not just try quitting wheat for a while and seeing what happens? Then you can know for yourself -- no need to trust, believe and such.

My skin has cleared up without grains! I tend to have reddish rosacea-looking on my face and it has cleared up in two weeks, eating a largely Keto diet. I haven't had any grains for this period of time, and the flour I used was from almonds and coconuts. I think Dr. Davis in on the right track.

So how much did the wheat industry pay you to produce this?
I had very painful tendonitis in both of my shoulders for over 2 years. Nothing helped it. My range of motion was severely reduced and I had difficulty sleeping. I was skeptical about going grain free, but decided to give it a shot. I KID YOU NOT - 4 days later my pain was GONE. I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, and realized that I could move my arms around with no pain!! I actually woke my husband up just to tell him, I was so overjoyed. 6 weeks later, the pain has not returned. Make of that what you will.

I gave up wheat almost 30 years ago, and I'm so grateful that I did. I suffered juvenile arthritis. In my 20s I gave my body a major cleanse, fresh fruits and vegetables, NO BREAD, no wheat. All my arthritis problems went away but they will come back as quickly if I consume wheat. If I eat a Salada biscuit before bed, I cannot move my fingers in the morning. It is poison to my body

Went keto 6 weeks ago to lose weight. I had no idea how good I would feel, I was ready to ask my doctor for a knee replacement then all pain disappeared. I lost 18 lbs and I keep dropping about 1 lb every 2 days. All I would say to people is give it a try. What have you got to lose

This is the first time I came across this Doc and I am not sure that I can confirm everything he says. But I will say this. Until 30 years ago I ate wheat most of my life. In the 1980s I stopped making my own bread and began to eat bread which I bought in stores. Suddenly weight gain began to pile on and my belly grew until it became embarrassing. But the worse part is that my vision began to fail. I can give a long list of side effects. Today if I eat bread from a bakery I get a severe reaction in my stomach as if I am getting a heart attack. However, if we make bread at home using organic wheat, I do not get the heart attack effect. However weight gain still comes on, although at a slower rate and there is nothing you can do to make it go away. When I cut out wheat, I lose weight at a rapid rate. I lost 35 lbs recently and I feel so much better.
My independent test from my own life experience's conclusion, independent of anybody's books, tells me "Eat today's wheat at your own risk".

I found this VERY interesting.. I'm from Australia, and knew nothing about all this Wheat hype...However, I have had a strange allergy now for quite a few years, and have recently found that the onset of my burning lumps came after eating bread... I ruled it out at first because I'd never heard of anyone being allergic to bread.. But after finally listening carefully to my body, I can't rule it out any more.. It's quite evident to me now that it IS BREAD!. Since cutting it out of my diet three months ago, I am now ALLERGY FREE!

Dropping the wheat may be 1/2 of the cause of the positive effects. The other 1/2 may be caused by the substitution of higher quality foods.

Now if i eat anything made of wheat i have an instant response. I never heard of Wheat Belly, but Gluten free is not a choice its a requirement.

If we'd waited for "definitive proof" that cigarettes were addictive, we couldn't make that claim until the 1980's. Consumers don't need definitive proof. If they want to know if they're addicted, they can just try to quit grains for one month. They can see for themselves whether or not they have overwhelming cravings, dizziness or moodiness, the shakes/jitters, and then a couple weeks later, whether or not they get better sleep, have more energy, etc.. Even if you're right, and not everyone is negatively impacted by wheat, there's no denying that a lot of people are glad they gave it up!

I used to love eating Raisin Bran and trusted its claim that it was heart healthy, but I also noticed that because I enjoyed eating it so much I would be tempted to eat more of it. Over time I noticed a strange feeling in my gut as if I wasn't digesting it and a strange overall feeling of intoxication. I looked carefully at the ingredients and wonder if it had something to do with the amount of salt it contained. I decided to stop eating it and my health improved. I also noticed when shopping that the companies that depend on you as a consumer to stay rich market their products as healthy for you, but when you get sick the doctors tell you to cut down or eliminate totally from your diet the same ingredients that the big food companies market as healthy for you to eat. Words of wisdom: New King James Version Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Any corporation that puts profit above your safety is no better than the drug Cartel.

I did go gluten free for 3 years. Drove me crazy. This is hard to do. Especially when you travel. The only thing I noticed which was improved in my health was no more constipation. I am back eating wheat. I have one toast now, not two. I have a little pasta when I feel like it. I think boxed cereal were always junk food and I knew that even before all this talk about glutens and genetically modified wheat. My life is less stressful eating this way as these wheat replacement options were not tasty and required a lot of prepation. Perhaps the problem is we are all eating too much wheat. Look at the size of a baggle now or a muffin or a donut compared to what the size was in the 60's. They are huge. And so are our bellies.

Changed my diet to GF before reading Davis’ book but I agree (and experienced) with much of what he wrote. Not for everyone but there’s so much out there that makes us sick. Wheat, milk, sugar, fried foods, red meat... all inflammation inducers. Sugar I would say is the worst culprit. Worse than gluten (except for celiacs of course). Wheat is cheap, manufactured sugar is even cheaper and both permeate much of what’s in the grocery store. We eat like crap in the US... corporations, mainstream doctors, and the government has made it hard to know how not to 😕 Educate yourself, know your choices, and most importantly listen to your body!

There is a thing called "non-celiac gluten/wheat sensitivity" which many people are not aware of. Gluten does cause inflammation in many people. Cutting off gluten altogether is absolutely a great thing to do for your health.

I have always wondered out loud why a culture that has grown wheat and teff for thousands of years, nonetheless consumes wheat at the rate of 1:6; that is, six times as much teff than wheat. They must have known something about it. To boot, the wheat that is marketed now has no resemblance to wheat grown before thirty years ago. That is due to genetic engineering.

I'm gluten, lactose and soy free for almost a decade now. I've lost weight, increased my metabolism and cured my chronic diseases almost completely, which I was diagnosed with for a lifetime (according to all the doctors, endocrinologists and immunologists I've seen). I also avoid artificial coloring, synthetic sugar and preservatives. No modified crap for me. My energy level has increased, I don't feel tired all the time (unless I don't sleep enough, but that's a different topic), and my thyroid is performing better and better each year. I'm not a doctor so I'm not qualified to give any advice on a professional level, but I can say one thing from my own experience: Do your research on yourselves, and find what works FOR YOU. Because if you take into consideration every research on the internet, you'll always come up with opposites and you'll end up getting confused and clueless. Every research that tells you to avoid something will be followed by a research telling you the ingredient is good for you, and vice versa. That alone indicates the "Wild West" that is nutrition these days. So read everything carefully, take notes and make up your own mind, but only do it based on how you FEEL and what it does to YOUR body. I don't feel like I'm aging too rapidly, people tell me I look younger than my actual age, and more energetic. I even feel stronger emotionally. And the reason is my ongoing, constant research and experimentation. Call it trial and error, if you will. This diet of mine sounds very restrictive to foodies, in terms of enjoyable food experiences. However, that can't be farther from the truth. I've concluded that my body is allergic to all sorts of garbage, of cheap ingredients, therefore I do my best to prepare my meals with extensive thought in mind. I make most of my daily nutrition intake from scratch. It takes time but I'm mastering it during the weekends, and it makes me happy and pleased to know that I'm the only one responsible for what I eat. Every attempt I make in eating out might be bad for me, therefore I only eat where I know it's safe for me. I've tried keto, paleo, vegan, pescatarian, intermittent fasting and more. Pretty much everything you could think of. But to me, my diet works best. I can't name it, it follows "rules" of all the others mentioned combined, with a specific way to combine them. And IT WORKS. No doctor and no book will be followed religiously by me, because even though it's a scientific subject, science is neither black nor white on that matter. Some people find it easier to follow rules written by others and take the responsibility off their shoulders, and some people enjoy customizing it according to their own needs. I can honestly share my insights without feeling guilty that someone else might be copying me, because I know we all have different bodies and different responses and reactions to different foods. That's just the way it is. I enjoy spending my time in nurturing my cooking skills as I know there's real profit in that: HEALTH. Your choices will affect your own life. Do you want to be healthy AND find happiness? Do you want to live long enough to see your healthy children grow up? I barely see the doctor! Really! Change your way of thinking, set your goals on what's truly important, release yourselves from food addictions (which are often caused by emotional insecurities that can be healed by eliminating triggers from your environment). You'll feel amazing, I guarantee.

I feel that wheat is not the only cause of health problems. It's also the sugar itself that's causing so many health problems that Dr. Davis talked about. That's just the beginning. Even the fruits and vegetables too are being tampered with. I feel it's sad that everything we eat that is supposed to be healthy is making us sick. It feels so frustrating that no matter how well I try to eat well, everything is tainted.

I think all these affections could relate to the pesticide which is used over them, and the fact that they are genetically modified. Our ancestors ate bread and harvested wheat, but no such obesity or affections existed in the old times. Even peanut allergy, I had never heard of it in the sixties, when I was a teenager. We all ate grains, peanuts, bread, but not in excess, and consumed sugar, and people were healthier.

I literally have the overwhelming majority of the symptoms mentioned here. However, as I am weight conscious, I have almost a non-existant carb diet. I don't eat bread, pasta beer, cereal, pastries or processed foods. What I do eat is ocassional sea food and lots of fruits and vegetables. So I wonder why I still have these symptoms... Could it be that it's not only wheat that has been bastardized (GMO) in this country? Why are there other countries that have literally banned GMO's and refuse to allow them into their food supply and do those countries struggle with the same high rates of these symptoms as American's do.

Processed wheat, flour. When you drop those things from your diet and when you avoid all processed foods AND processed oils, you get positive results within a week or two. the addiction and opiate part is very true. As someone new into Keto (4th week) I can say that not only am I losing a lot of weight but I feel more energized. Carbs and ultimately the sugar they turn into is what is addictive, so wheat and potatoes etc. I eat once a day now, a good keto meal and it is a much smaller portion of what I used to eat when I was having wheat and carbs. But I feel full and I can go 16 hours without eating without feeling sluggish or having a grumbling stomach.
this was not the case at the start and the first few days were hell, it was like going cold turkey on an addiction. I feel that the hunger we experience which causes us to overeat is a symptom of bodily addiction to modern carbs. Once we beat the addiction, we beat the hunger, we eat less and healthier and we are happier!

I've lost 35 lbs cutting refined sugar out of my diet and eating balanced meals rich in macronutrients, still enjoying deserts made with stevia, maple syrup or other natural sweeteners. I completely cured my life-long affliction with dermatitis two weeks into a gluten-free diet. I know it is the wheat because I break out every time I unknowingly eat wheat that was hidden in the products. There are way too many stories like mine to make it coincidence. Perhaps it is glyphosates, but wheat is heavily sprayed with it before harvesting.

My wife discovered that she is gluten intolerant (diagnosed by a physician). She cut the wheat and I went along for the ride. I guess I never knew how it was affecting me until I stopped eating it. Lost weight, feel a LOT better, more energy and better mental clarity (memory). There's definitely something to it. Since then, I've talked to a lot of people who have had similar experiences. I'm pretty skeptical, but this is pretty obvious. Also, you need to follow the money to understand the propaganda. Who has the money -- The wheat industry.

Look at the amino acids in wheat, and you'll find it's the most unbalanced grain ever. The gluten levels were increased far above the original grain to improve the mechanical properties for better processing, at the expense of its ability to nourish. It's right there in the numbers for all to see. The science of wheat being overloaded with gluten compared to all other foods is absolutely clear.

Dr. Davis' position makes for an especially easy test case. He says it's not wheat that's bad but that it's modern, genetically modified wheat. All he has to do to convince skeptics is perform a study with one group eating a non-GMO wheat-based diet, another with GMO wheat and a third control group eating a diet without any wheat at all. Compare results.

Many of us are having our genetic testing done and we are following our own genetic driven diet and often it doesn't include huge amounts of carbohydrates/ or processed foods, of which wheat is a part. We are taking responsibility for our own health- like it or not. Taking a pill for all ailments has not worked for many despite all the research!!!

This is just a type of placebo effect. Once these people hear a very interesting and convincing speech on something, they start to incubate it into an idea and they will eventually believe that idea as a fact. After they believe it, then it's the action of their brains. Their brain starts to find connections between their daily life and their "belief". For example, if they lose weight on cutting down wheat, believing wheat is bad, and ignore the part that you have cut down the calories by avoiding wheat and that doesn't mean wheat is bad. Once they believe wheat is really bad and after cutting down wheat from their diet, they will be like" yes, I have cut down the poison from my body. I'm feeling good!" And then whatever it is, you will feel great. This is called placebo effect. People will believe whatever they are fed as far as these are presented convincingly and endorsed by a celebrity who in no means is qualified to make such prepositions. People just lack proper thinking ability, reasoning skills.

I have never heard of this book or this doctor. This is my experience: I suferred from arthritis for 9 years (could not stand fo more than 15mins) and 2 years back the 2nd DMARDs drugs did not work... I was desperate and decided to omit certain foods... I first started with milk, sugar...lastly wheat. For the last 2 years I have been arthritis free(I go for full day hikes!) because I went completely gluten free. Then I tested each food item and whenever I ate wheat, within 1 hr my joint starts to hurt, nose starts getting runny and my voice gets horse ( acid reflux). Who is better to knw my own body but myself? It worked for me and I feel great!

The protein and gluten level had increased in wheat from what it was long ago. What changed is how bread is prepared. Europe still uses the the slow sour bread method that gives natural yeasts a day or so break down the gluten into proteins before they bake the bread. These glutens are easier to digest then gluten. Western bread uses a fast yeast, and only an hour or so to rise, which doesn't fully break down the gluten into proteins we can digest. Sourdough is more nutritious, easier to digest, and has a lower glycemic index. Sourdough also contains less gluten than other bread. So much so, that folks who typically suffer from gluten sensitivities can often eat artisan or homemade sourdough bread with little-to-no ill effects.

How do you explain the increasing sensitivity to wheat? I had to quit eating it as it caused me gastric discomfort, my husband dealt with continuous diarrhea for over a year. The Doctors had no idea what was wrong with him. He finally agreed to quit wheat for a few weeks and within days he got better. Forty years ago my stepmom's doctor recommended she quit eating wheat for her Rheumatoid arthritis. She didn't and is now totally crippled. Hard to argue with these facts...

“Scientists” are funded by special interests; including the government. To keep the funding flowing, their results must align with the agenda of those special interests or at least not go too strongly against them. So in terms of who to trust, it’s a wash. The best thing for people to do is experiment with their own diet and decide for themselves based on the results they observe and how they feel.

I stopped eating wheat a year ago. They made it GMO, and that's what the deal breaker was for me.
I do feel better by the way.
Sugar is the real enemy, and they dump plenty of it in nearly all bread sold.
I've lost 37 lbs. and am no longer borderline type 2 diabetic after giving up wheat and sugar, and all grains. KETO basically. Haven't felt so good in years.
Not psychosomatic by the way, I started KETO with considerable skepticism.

I read Wheat Belly because people were talking about it. I found his arguments circular and without significant citations. It turned me off on the whole subject of “gluten sensitivity “ for years. I’ve heard a fair amount of anecdotal evidence since, with people who have followed elimination diets to find their food sensitivities, and believe that more research is required to see if the argument is valid. I still believe that it wouldn’t apply to everyone, but studying sensitivities in conjunction with genetic sequencing might lead to a causative link, or at least a stronger correlation than the author presents.

Three points need to be clear. Wheat is much more difficult for the body to digest and break down for a large number of people. Glyphosate used on our wheat to make it easier to thresh. Then we have the fact that people are eating wheat with every snack and every meal. I have heard doctors say that eating the same food over and over can cause a problem to develop with that food.

Back them I was convinced I was dying. I was getting no answers back of what was my medical problem. In researching myself I thought I would try an elimination diet. That's when I found out that: meat, wheat, all nut's and chocolate were my triggers. I gave that up and all my pain disappeared within a couple of days. When I eat any of those items relfux and body pain reappears. No one can ever convince me that those foods are any good for me! My weight (145-155lb) has remained the same for the past 40+ years so I must be doing something right. Three farmers - three countries - one product. How much work goes into the harvesting and selling of one kilogram of wheat for a farmer in Austria, a farmer in Russia and a farmer in the US? What kind of compensation do they get in return? Although they are located in completely different cultural areas, the farms are comparable in size, income and social structure. Making investment decisions, coping with new agricultural regulations and dealing with everyday life on the farm - they all act alike but ever so different at the same time.

Back when I was studying anthropology in the late 80's we were taught to look for the tell-tale signs on a skeleton to determine if they were hunter/gatherers or involved in agriculture. Healthy, straight teeth meant hunter gatherers. Lots of missing and decayed teeth meant agriculture. Healthy teeth that are very worn - but not rotten - that's a hunter. Arthritis was a sure sign of a farmer. Hunter gatherers had a lot of old bone fractures. They looked like the kind of injuries we see on bull riders today. Another trick we'd do was count the adult to child ratio at large grave sites. If there were few children with the adults, hunters. They had a much lower infant and childhood mortality. Lots and lots of dead kids... farmers. We could count the fractures on the pubis bone and get a minimum number of children born to a woman. If you saw fresh fractures - she died in childbirth and if there were a lot of these women, you're looking at farmers.
This was common, basic information 30 years ago and I can't believe how stunned people in the medical community are when they look at this information today. none of this is new news.

Recently I watched a video on a doctor installing a stint, and at the end everyone in operating room Applauded. So the nerd 🤓 grows up, becomes a doctor then is making 3 million dollars a year and is practically worshipped for saving lives. It is no wonder cardiologist don’t want to prevent heart disease and halt their perverted gravy train.

" wisdom on health care is not coming from inside health care." As a nurse that is increasingly distrustful of modern medicine, I think we need to question everything...especially information regarding nutrition and vaccines. I decided to get my calcium score last April, at age 77, and was very pleased to get a score of 0, in spite of being obese for many years. But I've used very little seed oils and never bought into the margarine thing--used butter and bacon grease for cooking, etc., not consuming a lot of grains, limited veggies. I've now been on pretty close to 0 carbs for nearly a year, and have lost 68 pounds. I started 0 carbs in order to lose enough weight to get my nice shiny new hip, which I love. No pain.

Great information. Multiple things really hit home. I am 56, was always active, not overweight and a non-smoker. This past June I ended up with 6 Stents. I had NO symptoms. I asked to have my doctor write a script because of an Elevated LPa of 373. She didn't want to do the CT Calcium score at first but then agreed. The results came back and my number was 490. Then I went to cardiologist, they did a nuclear stress test and thought they saw 1 block. I did great on the stress test treadmill part. The Doctor said she never saw anyone running up hill that showed no symptoms, that ended up in the Angio lab, which is what I ended up doing. They think my body Re-routed. Had 2 angioplasty's and ended up with the 6 stents with significant blockages, LAD, CX and RCA. The RCA was drilled out there were so many blocks. I wish I did this CT Calcium test sooner. Interestingly what hit me watching this Video, I have a gene mutation, MTHFR that lowers my ability to process fake folate and make me have a problem with B vitamins. I also have the Gene mutation that lowers your ability to absorb D. I also was always eating Low fat and No fat foods and lots of carbs. So these things all contributed to my issue. I looked like the picture of health before I had discovered any of this, 5 foot 3 and 122 pounds. It was all somewhat by accident that I found out my situation and luckily I pushed to have the CT Calcium score done. I am now on Supplements, I also decided to STOP my statin. I am doing my best to keep myself healthy through diet and the supplements. But this Video was super informative and really connected to my issues.

Outstanding interview. I have read both "Wheat Belly" and "Undoctored" which are excellent and ground breaking. I am an anesthesiologist and can tell you first hand that the vast majority of MDs are completely clueless and as Dr. Davis states there is "willful ignorance" due to the profit motive. I avoid MDs like the plague and follow Dr. Davis' advice with DIY labs. Only see an MD if you break a bone, get hit by a bus, or shot, etc. I recently had a severe knee injury due to a ski accident and did not see an MD. I was on crutches for a month and slowly was able to bear weight and 7 months later I am 100%. If I saw an ortho there would have been Xrays, MRI, surgery and tons of needless PT. Best to take control of your health. I follow your advice Ivor and so many of the outstanding MDs and others who recommend.. keto/carnivore. Thanks so much Ivor for all you do!!

Couldn't agree more with Dr Davis's final complimentary comments about the important efforts of Ivor and other "outsiders." They are disrupting the medical / healthcare status quo/ dogma etc .... and take it from another physician, their kind of disruption based on unbiased scientific rigor, and a new paradigm of knowledge dissemination is needed right now!

Great show, Ivor. Had to add how exciting it was to hear the overviews of multiple disease tracts and the possible root causes. In my travels I repeatedly hear words like plaque and autoimmune diseases which may be symptoms or resultant conditions of what all was discussed here in this show. Incidentally, Since suicide was mentioned, the overwhelming majority of death by gun violence is a result of suicide, in the US.

Ivor remember that Dr Bernstein was originally an engineer. He bought an early glucometer and tested his BG before and after all food to develop a diet to keep his blood sugar stable. I have question for Davis, does the general rule apply to all grains, for example rice, sorghum, pearl millet, foxtail millet and so on?
Are Vegetables, which grow on the contaminated soils, or animals who consume them are safe for us to eat?

I enjoy all of your videos and appreciate your work immensely. The trouble is, though, that I now want to know Dr. Davis' protocol but don't know where to find it. Of course, he gave a very brief synopsis when he discussed the difficulty of getting studies done, but that is a bit too brief. It doesn't seem that "Wheat Belly" would be the correct place, and his book, "Track Your Plaque", is now over 15 years old, and I suspect that his protocol has changed over that time. So, with all due respect, when you tell me that something good exists, please tell me, also, where to find it. Cheers, and God bless.

Very informative discussion. I've read wheat belly and undoctored. I'm not sure if everything he said about grains was correct but it was enough to get me off them. And perhaps there's some truth to what he said on the podcast about it lowering small ldl. I'm sugar and grain free on keto and my number was under 200. Actually the doctor said that that meant there weren't enough to measure. Whatever the case, it was sure good to finally find a doctor willing to give me the labs that revealed the particle breakdown of my high LDL number. As Dr Davis points out in undoctored, the medical system is more broken than you would ever believe.

If you have insulin resistance, there is only a marginal difference between refined grains and whole grains. Both are about 90% glucose after digestion. Cutting out all or nearly all grains is a must for anyone with insulin resistance issues. My situation is I definitely have at least moderate insulin resistance as shown by the results of a blood insulin test and a HOMA-IR calculation but I do not have fatty liver according to the results of a GGT test which came back with a very optimal number.

Early identification …….seems like it's the same for diabetes. "Don't eat for 12 hours before we test your blood for glucose". A person could be becoming diabetic slowly over the years where it takes the body 3 hrs after eating to control the blood sugar the 1st year and then maybe 4 hrs the 2nd, 5hrs the 3rd and so on until 10 or 12 years later the doctor finally says "well, yesterday you were fine but today your diabetic. If they would use Kraft's test they may see it developing years earlier.

The active form of vitamin D promotes osteocalcin (BGP) and also MGP synthesis - active MGP helps remove calcium from soft tissues and vitamin K is crucial for the activation of both MGP and BGP. 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3) dramatically increased MGP mRNA within 4 h and, by 24 h, increased MGP secretion 15-fold. This is only the second example of a bone matrix protein whose synthesis is dramatically increased by vitamin D, the first being the 6-fold stimulation of BGP synthesis by 1,25(OH)2D3 in ROS 17/2 cells. Osteocalcin also called bone Gla protein (B.G.P) is the major non-collagen protein of the bone matrix. A large number of studies show that the circulating levels of osteocalcin reflect the rate of bone formation. The discovery that MGP and BGP are similarily regulated by 1,25(OH)2D3 was unexpected since the two proteins differ markedly in structure, physical properties, and tissue distribution. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3257212/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7019739/

I wonder if, when Dr Davis talks about the difficulty of getting studies with multiple moving parts past IRB's a change of structure might help? I assume the objection is the cause is too difficult to track with multiple changes (though people accept epidemiology...) but if you add a third test group the problem disappears. If instead of control and test you have control, test, and test-alternate (everything, including face to face time and attention etc is held the same but not the intervention, so if you give pills x,yz, in test you give placebo or even pills a,b,c in test-alternate) to explore the issue. The difference in test and test-alternate teases out the placebo/via negativa effect, and the difference between both tests and control teases out the general effect.

Thank you, another great video for me.
I've had past comments about my GGT, iron loading, and a few others, this channel is one of my best.
I knew of Dr. Davis but had not viewed or read his viewpoints. I had a bad reaction to Levaquin a few years back and it's still screwing with me. There are a few issues, but one of the biggest issues was the intense leg cramps when sleeping, and it's been magnesium that has helped. Not 100%. My internist is baffled about it and why Mg seems to help, my newly visited Neurologist (due to the leg cramps and months of headaches this past spring) gave me the impression he thought I was nuts mentioning Mg. The amount of mag that had initially helped was 640mg of Malate, along with Mg lotion on my legs.
Along with the headaches, this spring came another round of leg cramps despite the Mg level. Searching, I found some people with kidney failure found taking Milk of Magnesia at night helped. Tried it one night and it worked. Tried it again after another few days and it worked again. (My career was R&D automotive engineering, you A-B stuff). Well, you can't take M-of-M every night, but adding to the Malate (years ago tested all and found it to be the best, doing the A-B thing again) with other versions including Threonate, Citrate, and Glycinate to get to over 1,000mg has done the trick.
Now I'm off to the store to get some M-of-M and seltzer per this doctor's recipe. And I do take D along with sun these days.
Thanks again for an informative video. Know your score! (I still need to).

My kaiser cardiologist- less than an hour ago - said the CCA scan is not a predictor of heart attack risk. It only measures calcium and as you get older you’re going to have calcium in your arteries. He says the same damn thing- ‘we wait for events’- I have a stress test scheduled and then if needed he wants an angiogram. So F—k Kaiser! I’ll have to pay for the scan outside of the sucky system. I will not be doing an angiogram. This is September/ October of 2019. No lipoprotein tests, no hs CRP, no homocysteine level, no LDL particles tests. All about cholesterol with these 😡🤬🤯

Dr. Davis said that when humans started to eat grains, they had tooth decay and other diseases. APOE4 is supposed to be the hunter-gatherer allele. The one that human ancestors had. But on his website, Dr. Davis said that APOE4 is not suited to eating a high fat diet.
Would this mean that fatty meat is not an ancestral food, and that the ancestral diet is one based on fatty fish with some lean meat? Besides marine animals, aren't wild animals very lean?

This was the first time I have heard that whole grains could increase risk for heart disease. So I tried to verify the veracity of the claims. On pubmeb I found a study on whole wheat and oats that stated: "... Furthermore, consumption of wheat cereals led to a non significant reduction in LDL size and a significant increase (60%) in small LDL concentration." I also found a statement regarding LDL size: "LDL particles that are small are also dense and these terms are often used interchangeably. The smaller the LDL particle, the more dangerous it is. In fact, small- dense LDL (LDLIII and LDLIV) is three times more atherogenic than buoyant LDL." 60% of my caloric intake recently has been whole wheat, I had no idea it was unhealthy. I noticed that William Davis is not a fan of the United States Medical Industrial Complex or Big Pharma. Healthcare in the United States cost twice as much per person yet produces outcomes that can be beat by some third world nations. Thanks for the great interview.

Mankind has been eating grain for thousands of years without the health problems we see today. The problem is not the grain it is the chemicals that are in the grain that are causing the problems. There are people that where allergic to milk that have consumed grass fed, raw milk and their allergy for milk disappeared. That’s why you will have a swat team show up at your door if you try to sell raw milk.

Must watch vid for those prone to or diagnosed with CVD. Ivor interviews a very experienced cardiologist, Dr. William Davis, author of WheatBelly. My six key takeaways:
1) Ignore cholesterol, don't fear dietary saturated fat.
2) Magnesium critical. Easy cheap way to get absorbable magnesium: Take 2L bottle seltzer water, mix in 3 tbsp unflavored milk of magnesia. Take 4 oz. twice daily, work up to 8 oz.
3) Rid yourself of sdLDL and bad teeth by eliminating GRAINS, SUGARS, SEED OILS from diet.
4) Get critical Omega3s and Vit D by eating ample fatty fish like sardines, herring, salmon, etc.
5) Get plenty of sun for more Vit D.
6) Get your CT scan and coronary artery calcium score (CACS) to establish baseline. Stabilization or even regression of CACS (via 1-5 above) is anecdotally very doable and incredibly sends risk of adverse cardiac events to near zero. A high CACS is not a death sentence!
Also, Dr. Davis is skeptical on benes of K2 and B vitamins, but notes that taking them won't hurt. Finally, Dr. Davis discussed dysbiosis and stone-age bowel flora as an emerging area of interest....

There is plaque buildup in teeth, and plaque build up in the arteries.
As an analogy . . The only way to remove the buildup in teeth, is to “scrape” it away.
No amount of good diet will reduce it.
It seems counter-intuitive to me, that a good diet will reduce plaque in the arteries.
What am I missing?

In this talk Cyndi O'Meara discusses challenges with wheat. Cyndi O’Meara is a nutritionist, film maker – ‘What’s With
Wheat?’, best-selling author, international speaker and
founder of Changing Habits.
Cyndi graduated with a BSc majoring in Nutrition in 1984,
her special interest was ancestral foods. After graduating,
she became disillusioned by the global ‘standard’ nutritional
guidelines that she paved her own path.
Cyndi started Changing Habits in 1990, from her regular
newspaper column on nutrition. Her ground breaking
book Changing Habits Changing Lives (1998) became
an instant best seller and from there she has grown a successful
organic food company, certified online education
program, a ground breaking documentary and is currently
building a 60-acre organic food bowl which will be used
as an education centre for sustainable farming practices. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

I eliminated grains esp wheat from my diet as well as reduced carbs/sugars after reading William Davis 'Wheat Belly' in Oct 2012. Within 15 days I had total relief from chronic idiopathic urticaria with oedema after 4.5 years of the highest dose of nsaids, antihistamines and antiasthma meds and having seen an immunologist and a dermatologist who both told me that they did not know what caused the condition. Not touched wheat since...!

Wheat prior to 1949 was different. I worked for a Dr. that developed new varieties of wheat. One was named after him and he named another. These hybrid strains were able to double yields. This was done by doubling the size of the grain. Since these variety’s were introduced out wheat tolerances have decreased.
By 1969 our body’s have doubled in size, diabetes through the roof, cancers way up , and on it goes. Check out your high school year books. Or watch an older movie. Compare to now.

My story: I Have been a diabetic for close to 10 years. About 5 years ago, I joined the Peace Corps moved to a (unnamed for political reasons) Balkan state. While I was there, I consumed non- GMO foods, since they followed the E.U. food standards. I became post diabetic. No more diabetes !
When I returned to the USA, after 3 months my diabetic symptoms came back. I can only attribute it to food. In the USA, the foods, have corn syrups, corn oils, animal feeds, etc.
I can only tell you my experience, but don't have a clue what caused this.

Thank you so much. I grew up in the great plains and was aware ot all this in the 60's even as an adolescent. I have struggled with this through raising 5 children who had food sensitivities. I struggle with health issues myself even today because of food and what has happened to it in this bastardization process. Your message is timely and probably more important than any other I have seen on TEDx. Thank you.

I am a farmer in Punjab Pakistan - I do not spray glyphosate on food crops nor was I aware that a pre-harvest spray on edible crops is practised anywhere. I have never witnessed this practise nor heard of it from other farmers in my neck of the woods, I would be surprised if consumers of crops so treated did not get ill. As a former hospital physician I also endorse the advice for people to stop consuming any food item they suspect is making them unwell, withhold that food from their diet for several weeks before re-challenge by reintroduction of that same food to observe whether the symptoms go away when the suspected food is removed but are reproduced when it is eaten again.

I am a Type1 diabetic and have lots off problems with hidden sugars in foods so I stopped all bread pasta meat milk sugars and all processed foods 7 years ago and went vegan and only eat above ground green veg chilli peppers garlic etc o and ginger as its a root to say I have had a improvement is a under statement, this person is so right and so many problems with peoples health today is what they eat. So many processed foods are poison and are made to taste nice with chemicals. Look at brain disease that have increased in the last 20 years but people are blind or are to lazy to act and are willing to pop a pill instead off eating correctly so sad.

You are wrong! No one sprays wheat with 10 chemicals and almost no one sprays glysophate on wheat. In 40 years, never. The problem with wheat is ancient wheat was 9 chromosomes and because of years of cross breeding, modern wheat is 40 chromosomes. It's too complex for our digestion.

The idea that today's wheat is different than ancient wheat is a common misunderstanding. It is chemically identical in every way; proteins, enzymes, carbs, etc.
Also, food that includes wheat tends to be high-calorie, and most processed foods contain wheat, so cutting wheat tends to lead to eating more whole foods, less processed foods, and fewer calories overall. This is not a bad thing, and has made many peoples lives healthier and happier! But pointing to wheat as the sole cause of all ills is... misleading.
This speaker sounds very sure of what she is saying, but the truth is, the reasons for the increased prevalence of wheat sensitivities is not definitively known. One theory is that it is a case of the "nocebo effect", but another theory is that it's linked to the rise in autoimmune disorders, which in turn seems to be linked to our highly-sanitised society making our immune systems over-reactive to harmless proteins. This, too, is not wheat's fault. Similarly, the rise in peanut allergies is not because peanuts are bad for everyone.
I suppose what I'm saying is, it's frustrating to hear someone say things which have a severe lack of evidence at best, and are demonstrably false at worst. It's strange to hear her making claims about glyphosphate ruining our gut microbes when there is no evidence that that is the case. And it's frustrating that she does all this while selling media that puts a lot of money in her pocket.
Anyways. Eat however you like, and however makes you feel good. But think about /why/, once in a while.
Peace and love ✌️✌️

I’m a wheat farmer in Montana. There is no GMO wheat and wheat is very very rarely sprayed with glyphosate. In fact I’ve never heard of that practice being used anywhere in the states ever. Occasionally it is done in northern Canada with their shorter growing season. Overall only a minuscule fraction of Canadian wheat ever sees any glyphosate and no American wheat.

The reason she felt so good when she switched to "a bit of protein" and veggies is because she inadvertently put herself on the ketogenic diet due to calorie restriction. This effect is well known with people going vegan, or fasting. That she eliminated wheat was obviously important, but not the reason for the clarity and energy.
I don't know but I would bet the problems with wheat are there in countries that don't permit glysophate, or before it came into use in the 1970's. It's (probably)not the glysophate, it's the wheat.

do you know that all sifted wheat has to be( by law) fortified with iron (some sort of yucky supplement).i found that avoiding it ,by milling the wheat flour myself, from organic grain, helped alleviate my problems with wheat.

I have great aunts and uncles who were infertile. I am infertile. I am wondering what I was exposed to that gave me the same problems. Kudzu is not treated and is on every continent except Antarctica. It is free. Learn about it and eat it if possible. Why do I need to add styrofoam (perlite) or vermiculite to a pot of soil when compost has been enough for eons?

Some people just aren't designed to eat gluten. There's nothing wrong with that. We just need to know who has celiac disease and who doesn't. And if you have been tested and you have celiac disease then stay off gluten for the remainder of your life. You will be healthier as a result.

The way wheat is modified and sprayed is probably not worse than what is done to other crops including vegetables and fruits not to speak of how the meat industry is adulterated. Organic is the answer? Can,t afford it. I dont eat much wheat because i find it addictive. I eat the whole loaf then might fall asleep. I love it too much. Well my answer is to grow my own vegetables and put in the freezer. Hope it keeps me healthy and save money plus a great healthy hobby.

Arsenic and lead would cause illness for sure and early death. We always need to be careful with what we do with farming as for the HIV that’s unfortunate that her family was affected but completely not linked to diet as the factor VIII being used to treat haemophilia so I am failing to see how this is linked to diet. Unfortunate but not at all useful to talk about in link to diet

Gluten intolerance is straight up a symptom of vaccine damage. I know. I used to eat wheat until I got vaccinated w/Hep B vaccine and then eating wheat triggered instant pain--inflammatory arthritis, so I stopped. The vaccines are GMO. Hopefully there is not too much GMO wheat around and we can still save the genome.

If this is true why aren't the reported problems much higher than stated. I eat many products containing wheat and I have no symptoms other than a dry eye problem which I know the cause of (it has nothing to do with diet). Granted the way we handle food contains a lot of artificial processes and ingredients but I'm always sceptical of anyone who has a book to sell on the topic they are talking about.
I will continue as I am.

The wheat of today is not the wheat of our mothers or grandmothers. Modern wheat is the product of genetic manipulations that have transformed its properties. Modern wheat is now a 2-foot tall, high-yield semi-dwarf strain, different in both appearance and multiple biochemical features from traditional wheat. Introduction of this new strain of wheat was associated with the appearance of a long list of health problems, along with weight gain and diabetes.
According to Dr. Davis, saying goodbye to all things wheat provides outsized and unexpected health benefits, from weight loss, to relief from acid reflux and bowel urgency, to reversal of diabetes, migraine headaches, and learning disabilities in children.
Dr. William Davis is author of the #1 New york Times bestselling book, Wheat Belly: Lose the wheat, lose the weight and find your path back to health (Rodale, 2011), now debuting internationally in over ten foreign languages. Wheat belly has helped spark a nationwide reconsideration of the conventional advice to "eat more healthy whole grains."
Formerly an interventional cardiologist, he now confines his practice to prevention and reversal of coronary disease in his practice in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Davis is a graduate of the St. Louis University School of Medicine, followed by training in internal medicine and cardiology at the Ohio State University Hospitals, and training in interventional cardiology at the Case--Western Reserve Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. He is also founder of the online heart disease prevention educational program, Track your Plaque.

After seeing massive benefits from cutting out wheat from my food, I advised my now 64 year old mother to do the same. No more gluten. She had M.E. (muscle desease), went to the toilet 3-4x a day, was pretty much physically unable to do much at all. Depressed, especially in the morning, and was easy to upset. After being without gluten for 2 years now she's finished building her first house by herself. Yes, cement, stones, tiles, building a kitchen from scratch...everything. She has the physical energy of a 40-year old. No more stomach problems, no more depression, lots of life. She'll reach a 100 this way...so happy to see her healthy!

I took a food sensitivity test and came back mildly sensitive to wheat, barley, rye. Amongst other things like chicken/eggs/pineapple/bell pepper/milk/chicken. I cut all of these foods out. My asthma got better, back pain and toe pain went away. I had a slip up at a family party and ate desserts packed with grains, sugar and eggs. The next day I needed my inhaler. I started craving sugar so bad I bought another dessert a few days later…the next day I needed my inhaler again and my back pain and toe pain came back severely. It’s so crazy. I cut out all grains again, fasted and ate only meat/veggies, pain gone and asthma back under control within 3 days. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

For all of you who are going wheat/ bread free, let me warn you - I did it too. I was free for 6 MONTHS! I have lupus and so many things changed for me. I lost weight, I was less moody, just everything was great - and then I had a slice of pizza. The way he teases about the "just one" is so true. I thought, I will have this slice of pizza and then go back to my wheat/ bread free way of living. WRONG! Even knowing and understanding what is happening, it has been so hard to get back off the bread. I tell people all the time that it is addictive. I never knew about the different proteins and such that make it so, I just knew that it was. I am working harder to get back off of it, but I really wish there was a rehab center for this particular addiction. Good luck to all of you on your wheat free journey.

Went full keto after stumbling on this. Frucotse-free three years- that helped, then just quit the minefield modern carbs are altogether.
I am never going back. You couldn't pay me to go back.
The first week I had such powerful carb cravings. I was dreaming of carbs. I have zero doubt they are addictive, especially wheat.

Thank you. I have not eaten wheat since 9/3/2012. I was living on homemade whole wheat bread, made with honey and lots of other healthful ingredients (never sugar). I thought I was doing the best for my health, but wheat kept me fat. Since I was over 50 (post menopausal) I had come to accept my new body image- but I hid under jackets and loose-fitting tops to cover up my ROLLS OF FAT. I have dropped three dress sizes and have a waist again. I will share my story soon on my youtube channel.

Back in the early 90s I had horrible IBS. Medications did little to help. I stumbled upon the idea that maybe I had celiac disease, so I gave up all grains because I was so sick I would try anything. There were no "gluten free" junk foods back then, so I was basically eating zero grains. I was cured. Then one day my doc--a gastroenterologist --decided to "test" me for celiac and I didn't have it. Great! Bring on the grains. I was okay with it for a few years until I developed another mystery ailment Interstitial Cystitis and horrible blood sugar issues. This time, I gave up not only grains but sugar. Again, cured. I'm not going back.

It's often misleading regarding certain types of foods and their supposed benefits. Whole wheat was pushed SUPER hard as the "better" kind of bread, but it has nothing to do with the glycemic index, etc, as we've seen. It's about the slightly higher fiber content, which supposedly helps clean your colon. Things that are "fat free" (but full of carbs), "low carb" (but full of salt), "high fiber" (but a diabetic nightmare) and so on. In general, if it needs marketing, you should be suspicious.

He points out, in the first pages of his book, that the glycemic index of wheat is 72, while the glycemic index of sugar is 59. While sugar is empty calories, wheat is worse. I wondered why so many people report celiac disease these days, when it was considered a rarity when I was young. I wondered why one vegetarian friend had a child with diabetes AND rheumatoid while another vegetarian friend, a runner, had a diastolic BP of 140. Dr. Atkins was reporting on the ballooning of diabetes , even in juveniles, since the FDA came out with their food pyramid, (the broadest part made up of carbs) in the 1970's. The food pyramid, by the way, was supposed to have been developed by two lawyers! Dr. Atkins, fat or not, reversed diabetes and metabolic syndrome in his patients. (Caregivers frequently do not get cared for themselves). Dr. Davis claims also, that hundreds of his patients have been freed from everything from rashes to diabetes. He is a cardiologist. He deals with real people. His ideas are not merely academic.

I am 65 years old and have recently start having intense should pain. All doctors..ALL doctors have addressed my "getting older", impingement, possible rotator cuff surgery, and lack of exercise. Who feels like exercising when you have sharp pains shooting through your shoulders. NOT ONE doctor ever asked me what I eat! Then I noticed a side bar on You Tube when I was seeing if anyone else was having pain and was directed to a gluten site. Gluten? That was something that affected "other" people and was probably one of those "weirdo" diet things. Reluctantly I "clicked" on your You Tube lecture and thankfully changed my heath! I had all the symptoms, so I decided to give it a try. No tests! No X-Rays! I just cut out wheat, sugars, and processed food. Two weeks later I have absolutely no shoulder pain, have lost over 10 pounds (two belt notches), and have started exercising again. I wish I could package this up and sell it but I can't. I added rice and quinoa into my diet, have limited protein to the generally accepted 10% of what I eat, and have even stopped the foot pain and gout attacks. I am a new man!

My wife and I are on week 2 of no wheat and no sugar, I'm 48 and she is 52. We've been eating wheat and sugar our entire life. I can say with proof, stop eating that crap! The way I feel now is truly living, arthritis, weak urine stream, inflammation, bloating, mood swings, constipation and many many more problems I had are gone. We had no idea what feeling alive was due to being sick for so long, that was normal. I can say it works, I feel sorry for those not willing to give it a chance. In closing I'm down 12 pounds in 9 days and still eating steak and seafood.

I've never been overweight but I got very sick last year with tummy troubles, inflammation, rashes, and tinnitus in my right ear. Well, after eliminating wheat, coffee, lactose, and cutting down on sugar my symptoms have virtually vanished! However, if I have something with wheat in it the tinnitus comes rushing back nearly instantly. Its shocking. Since quitting these foods my belly is flat for the first time in my life. I'm reading your book and it is very informative. Thank you!

I can testify that after not touching wheat for 2 weeks, i dropped 7 kilos. And when im hungry the feeling of famish is quite mild compared to those days when i was on wheat - the feeling of hunger is so unbearable that i could eat many plates of food or a horse. In 1961 the Chorleywood bread process was developed, which used the intense mechanical working of dough to dramatically reduce the fermentation period WHICH MEANS MORE GLUTEN and the time taken to produce a loaf. The process, whose high-energy mixing allows for the use of lower protein grain, is now widely used around the world in large factories. As a result, bread can be produced very quickly and at low costs to the manufacturer and the consumer.

While Davis is Right he is also very wrong. The Human body consists of a Matrix or combination of systems that are well able to handle moderation of low toxin consumables. The Two most critical issues which lead to illness from consuming are your general controllable physical condition and overall diet. The immune, cardiovascular, and nervous systems function to handle foods like Whole Grains if you do not exceed recommended daily amounts, AND you are getting sufficient body movement. Exercise is not even needed, but if you are fairly active your systems will be at optimal functioning levels to keep you healthy.
Davis brings up the chemistry of the body acting out its chemical characteristics yes, but in a single plain or dimension. The human body has an intertwined or matrix of properties that circumvent toxin levels. If the levels get very high then yes he is only right then, but a normal diet of breads or any slightly toxic foods is easily handled by a healthy system.
A healthy body is built to handle many variances in non favorable consumables and has been subjected to this need for eons. The Key is moderation and body condition, exercise is good if you are an office worker but for most people simple activity such as walking, cleaning house, labor and other cardio movement to rev up the heart daily is all it takes.
The problems in health seem to par with timing of illness like diabetes and higher wheat consumption. But the truth is we entered the electronic age in the 1940's and by the 1980's people were in front of a TV, Gaming program, or Computer which has led to a much poorer overall health condition worldwide. The other factor combined with that is today people simply consume to much.
I am a 61 year old, Graduate, Human biology, Molecular biology, farmer, and healthy moderate. The understanding of how our bodies work is not cut and dry on a simple plain program as Davis outlines. We are tougher than most know especially when we do continue to develop our bodies and minds with wise non excessive diets.

Once I contracted SIBO, I started cutting out bread and wheat and cutting the fructans really helped. I'm not saying I'm perfect or that I totally got rid of it, but I'm more conscious of how much bread I used eat (90% of a diner menu is bread) and try to avoid it as much as possible. Wheat is a lot worse for you than the much-maligned meat.

Thank you, I really enjoyed this presentation and will be making some serious changes in my diet as a result. FYI, for anyone concerned with the inflammatory effect of grain products you may be interested to know that our immunizations have two forms of aluminum and mercury in the form of thimerosal as adjuvants. Each of these substances are neurotoxins. Pharmaceutical companies stirred these substancesq into the broth to cause an inflammatory response at the time of immunization. The purpose of creating an inflammatory response is their belief that it provides a greater immunity from the viral fragments in the immunization. The amount of virus present in each immunization can differ a great deal. The basis or result of auto immune disorders is inflammation. My daughter had respiratory distress after her first flu shot then spent the day in the emergency department receiving IV steroids, Benadryl, IV epinephrine and inhalation therapy. She now has asthma. She also has MTHFR gene defect & cannot metabolize folate and other B vitamins. Synthetic B vitamins are in every enriched grain product.

I cut out the wheat from my diet for 7 weeks and ... absolutely NOTHING happened!
I still have my psoriasis (autoimmune disease of the skin).
But in my previous food experiment two years ago I cut out the dairy (for good) from my diet and my asthmatic afflictions were gone since then.
What's the meaning of this? Dairy is bad and wheat alright? For me it is! ^^

5-31-13 The European Union is urging its 27 member states to test wheat shipments from the United States after unauthorized genetically modified grains were found in Japan. Tokyo on Thursday halted imports of certain types of wheat from the U.S. following the discovery of an experimental strain that was tested by Monsanto but never approved. The EU’s consumer protection office said Friday that shipments which test positive should not be sold in line with the bloc’s “zero tolerance” for GM crops.

Today: 65 yrs old. 6'2", 146 lbs. blood sugar ~90 - 150 (nominal)
So I'm at the very low end of BMI now, (highest was 220 lbs, average adult weight 185-190).
At 62 years old after decades of chronic back and neck pain, years of peripheral neuropathy in hands and feet, deteriorating eyesight, etc, I suddenly lost 50 lbs in under 6 months and had horrible irritable bowel problems for the first time in my life. The more I ate to keep my weight up, the faster I lost weight and the worse my stomach problems got. Went to my doc who sent me for every test under the sun. Pretty sure he was afraid I had cancer.
Before the tests, I talked to a coworker who had diabetes in his family. He suggested I get a $20 glucose monitor, so I did. It took about 3 days to figure out that my sugars were spiking after every meal. What was I eating? Junk. White bread, bagels, pizza, soda, potato and corn chips, ice cream, and so on. Did a little reading online found out what I should be eating. Started shopping around the outside isles of the market. Fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, fish, more fish, etc. No white or wheat bread. Some whole grain breads, but no more. No processed foods, nothing that comes in a box.
So after the tests, there was nothing indicating disease because I figured out what was wrong just weeks earlier and easily fixed it.
THIS DIET ISN'T RIGHT FOR EVERYBODY. I DO NOT HAVE DIABETES. I AM NOT QUALIFIED TO GIVE MEDICAL ADVICE. THIS IS JUST MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. I WAS (AM) HYPERGLYCEMIC, BUT AM ABLE TO CONTROL IT THROUGH DIET.
I feel great. I see better, feel better, very rarely get headaches (used to have them daily and gobbled ibuprofen like M&Ms) have far less back, neck and joint pain (still some, vertebrae don't grow back after all) but the neuropathy is nearly gone and the pain I do have lasts for minutes to hours, not days, weeks, months or even years like it used to.
So now, my only problem is, I can't gain weight. If I force myself to eat when I'm not hungry, I can get up to 150-155, but it quickly falls off and settles down at precisely 146. Not a bad problem to have I guess. I eat lots of eggs, full fat dairy and meats, etc. But no food comes into my house or into my mouth if wheat is anywhere in the ingredients. I can eat raw sugar (not cups of it, but a reasonable amount, like a sweet tea, even creme brulee) without a big sugar spike. But if I take just a couple bites of white bread, I will be looking for the bathroom in 20 minutes and feel like garbage for 2 days. Stupidly ate 2 bites of a hotdog bun a couple days ago and am just feeling right again now. That's all it takes to tip my metabolism.
If I had seen the info on this page before I had a problem, I would not have believed it. Now I believe it can't be stated strongly enough. What an eye opener. The food industry is killing us. We make enough wheat to feed 11 billion people. There are 8 billion people on earth. Strikes me there is enough wheat produced to make humans extinct.

Wheat truly makes me feel sleepy and like I've been drugged.
There are some good, grain-free GF foods, like those Ugg Food mixes, but he's right that a lot of the shop-bought stuff is high GI muck of the highest order! Little to no fibre or protein yet sky high carbs? Sounds like junk food, to me and pricey junk at that.
My question would be: are the ancient grains OK in moderation? What about the lower gluten grains, such as rye and barley?
But, his answer would probably be that its best to cut them all out and eat in a paleo manner.

To correct some facts in the video. Wheat was first eaten in bulk about 24,000 year ago in the Nubia area, and this population slowly expanded gathering wild wheat up through Israel, finally reaching Southern Turkey about 15,000 years ago. This population was the first one to live sedentary lives, and they bumped into another popualtion in Turkey, and between the two of them they started agriculture with domesticated animals and planting cereal crops.

Right around the 5 minute mark he mentions EINKORN , an ancient wheat. Coincidentally, I recently came across a company named Jovial Foods that has reintroduced that wheat in their products. I am not interested in trying it since I have been on a Keto diet and OMAD for a few years.
I may try a carnivore diet soon and see how I feel on that. We have gotten so far away from our ancestral diets that it’s no wonder so many are fat and sick. BTW, this doctor doesn’t look all that healthy to me. But just my opinion. Interesting presentation nonetheless.

Chronic candida was also present in everyone tested for schizophrenia too. I had this fungus caused by antibiotics, too much sugar and stress. Symptoms of candida: bad depression and anxiety, white coating on the tongue, skin rashes, athletes foot and toe nail fungus, bad breath, leaky gut, hayfever, sugar and dairy cravings, many turn int alcoholics because of depression and sugar cravings. I too experience strange things like words popping into my head i was not thinking and the same song playing over and over in my head all night and sometimes day too, when i treated candida it went away, weired!

Coming from a farmer family we have been growing wheat for hundred of years and also been eating too all our lives. We don't have any allergies, cancer, or any other health issues at all..We are not fat! maybe we don't use any chemical spray on our food but then I visit America. I learned most of food in America is so bad and unhealthy. And also first time I ever heard "Gluten Free" food. So problem is not a wheat but chemicals you spray and genetic food.

Regarding the assertion that increased consumption of wheat caused increased overall weight gain of the population, this may be partially true. Nonetheless, cheese consumption has increased over the last several years. Cheese is also one of the most addictive and fattening foods, and much of it can be considered genetically modified due to recombinant growth hormone given to cows.

Good talk, I was really unaware of the dangerous breeding techniques used in our modern wheat and this is something I definitely want to avoid. Will do more research on this topic for sure. I disagree with the idea that a low-carb diet is the healthiest diet, this is not backed up by science and research. I do believe there are many healthy grains if they are grown properly from heritage seeds.

Wheat is closer to being an opiate inducing "medicine" forced upon people than a drug, in the since that the effects are not physically detectable, but instead causes long term changes to that persons overall health as time progresses. Such as developing wheat belly. I find this topic extremely fascinating. Like the Meat industry, it just goes to show the problems the world is facing presently in Agricultural. Generations from now will look back, and see this as a mistake.

The doctor is leaving a lot behind. What has been done to wheat has been done to rice and corn, most vegetables and fruits. Either to increase yield or carbs or fructose. EVERYTHING out of your supermarket is toxic for human consumption and addictive. If you switch to veganism and stop eating meat all together you will chew on dead plants devoid of minerals enzymes and nutrients. This is why you see the long lines at in and out burgers. People gobble the shit down for a 20 minutes high before going back to their shit job, boss, husband, kids, teacher, etc... Food has become a drug, nutrition has been removed from food. But do not worry you will get sick and they have a drug for you. America is a horror show full of obese zombies who refuse to die.

The healthiest diet I have lived is Raw Vegan, but when I moved to live in a cold climate, it was difficult to maintain in winter. So I added some cooked food including wheat and rice. From my personal experience Dr Davis is right about wheat but rice is fine. I gain weight eating wheat but never with rice. So I eliminated all wheat and maintain a vegan lifestyle. In a cold climate, rice, potatoes, all veggies, coconut milk , all fruits, keep me feeling good and no weight gain.

One thing you don't expand on here is the implication of Depression. You hint at it, but don't go there. I am 35 and have been having issues with like this since about 1992. That is when the "perceived" presence of mind developed, youth was wearing off. As my sensitivity progressed a major depression set in. I am 100% certain this whole system inflammation caused my depression. I have been GF and now mainly eat veg. and meat and he is right....I wish I would have seen this around 10years ago...

Come from the semi red dwarf variety. Safer when sprouted I think, but they contain the same gliadin and gluten proteins...I struggled with this as well....I think the wheat that is described in the Essene Gospel of Peace (where wheat grass movement was popularized..to and extent) was the Emmer? variety...much different.

I just stumble on this article , and i also thought like this Dr, but learn that its not wheat what is the problem, but first of all its instant yeast ,and high fructose corn syrup. Again i am writing this on my own experience i did on my own body. I came from Europe in 1994 and at that time i was 30 year old and my weight was only 110 lb and my height is 5'9. In first 6 months i gain so much weight eating how i was eating back in home. My weight went up to 164lb. I tried diet high protein low carbs, nothing, ate lots of veggies not so much fruit still couldnt lose weight. Also i need to add i do not exercise in gym, i am not big fan of gyms. I love my garden i do my home work cleaning house work. But after i learn about HFCS that this could be a problem i start buying things what had no HFCS in it. My weight went down to 125 lb only in 1 year . I do eat now bread and pasta and everything what does not have corn syrup. I bake my own sourdough bread and bake once a week some sweets but here in USA sugar is used way too much in baking sweets. I dont have any health issues and now i am 55 year old . I am going through hormonal changes , but i am still 130lb .My grand daughter 3 year old love sourdough bread and no complaints there. What i believe from my own experience that wheat as i first thought was the enemy for me its acctually not

As a Hispanic, it wasn't too difficult for me to drop the wheat being that our diet is mostly corn based. I did notice the instant effects it had on my body (not having to worry about what I ate and still being able to keep the weight off). But in case anybody knows, I was wondering if wheat in other countries, for example, European countries has been modified to the same extent that American wheat has been? I have no problem eating wheat overseas and actually lose weight when there.

Heirloom wheats are okay. Unfortunately, they have all but disappeared.
I really wonder how much gluten intolerance and this whole "wheat belly" stuff could have been avoided, if wheat genetics had been left alone. 40 years ago, heirloom wheats were still quite common.
The better wheats are Turkey Red, Spelt and Kamut.
Of course people ate grains in Bible times.

Gluten isn't nearly the only problem, wheat now has over 23000 proteins all which are capable of producing an auto immune response also the current semi dwarf strain made through crossing and chemicals and radiation induced mutations created one protein among the 23000 called 33mer a 33 length amino acid that shares a profile with whooping cough and causes INSANE auto immune response. You have Gladin, lectin among others.

I have tried many of these fad diets and they do not affect my health in a positive way. I tried cutting wheat and other grains out of my diet and i ended up fatigued and was unable to function at work. Then once i started eating bread and pasta again I had plenty of energy. I also tried cutting dairy out of my diet and i started to have sickly-looking skin once i started eating cheese and milk again I would perk up. The best result I have had is learning to cook at home. I Make certain every meal has a protein which is primarily eggs, fish, or dairy, a starch which is either potatoes, bread, or pasta, and a vegetable which would normally be cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, and peppers or beets gave me the best results. if i am hungry in the middle of the day or night I eat a hunk of cheese or some ice cream so i can fill full faster and if i feel tired i eat some sort of bread product. If i know I am going to not eat for a while i eat rice, oats, or some grain which will take longer to digest.WHen i started my lifestyle i was 240 lbs and within 6 months I dropped to 90 lbs

I was vegan for a year and I was still suffering from IBS; bloating, pain that would have me doubled over, diarrhea... I didn't know why it was all still happening since my doctor told me it was the dairy. Picked up "Wheat Belly" from a close friend last week and I've now been off gluten and still vegan for 3 days. The changes have been so amazing, so fast - no more bloat, no more pain, normal stools; I feel so alive again! Woot woot! If you have any questions abo my experience, feel free to ask. I want to help others who were in my shoes. Excellent book, Dr. Davis!

I had IBS really bad.
A friend of mine suggested that I remove gluten from my diet (her doctor was a holistic and natural doctor/nutritionist) who explained to her what gluten does to people. I removed wheat/gluten from my diet in January 2021 and went 5 months without it. I felt a million times better and my IBS was gone. I recently added gluten back to my diet to see what would happen. I went right back to bloating, constipation, sharp a abdominal pain, diarrhea, headaches and low energy. I removed it again 2 weeks ago and I feel so much better now and I can actually take a proper SH*T everyday!
Removing gluten is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself, besides quitting smoking.

I’m an adult with Aspergers and when I switched my diet and cut out gluten, dairy, & sugar, my sensitivity to sounds, light, touch, ability to cope with stress, as well as my anxiety, went way down to like nothing. I heard about it from Chris Kresser on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Anyone with ASD or a kid who has it should look into this.

Even with no noticeable symptoms, giving up wheat improved how I felt, less hungry. more energy etc. and I couldn't figure recently why all my trousers wont quite stay up round my waist. Prove it to yourself, its worth it.

Everything this guy says is absolutely right.
So why is it, my sister & I (aged 42 & 39 respectively) have been diagnosed with Celiacs, but our parents have no issues at all consuming wheat products?
I believe it's because our parents were raised on a different diet consisting of different grains, but things changed around the time we kids were born (mid-late 70's).
I for one was raised on vegemite & cheese sandwiches (it's an Aussie thing). Not a day would go by that I wouldn't eat a wheat based product. I always had a healthy "beer gut" too, even as a kid.
If I follow that diet now, I get horrendous gut aches, headaches, irritable bowels including bloody stools, fatigue & the list of health problems goes on.
Ultimately a lack of nutrition due to irritable bowel & celiacs could result in leukemia & an early death
Since changing my diet to gluten free, I can eat regularly without irritation or feelings off sudden hunger (at times this could be crippling), I have normal stools, no headaches, regular sleep patterns...& most of all I'm happy.
I have also dropped to a healthy 70kg down from a peak of 91kg, in the space of about 6 months. This weight is perfect for my body mass index.
I'm finally healthy.

I've had digestive issues my whole life. Also felt lack of energy, was called lazy most of the time, and was overweigth. My mind would get very foggy and confused sometimes and my mood was terrible. I also developed psoriasis at age 11. After every meal I would take a 3 hour nap from being so tired. Finally realized I was a celiac or allergic to gluten, after 21 years of struggling with mental and physical health. Now it all makes sense, the food pyramid is a sick joke to make more money, a win-win for the food and drug industries. I've only been gluten and wheat free for about 3 days and already feel so much better with a lot more enegy, no napping or bad mood. I wish my family members followed me on this new change but because of the "gluten" label on wheat they believed that to be the only problem when its actually all of the components of wheat together. Once I get healthier and better I hope they believe me and follow suit. Thank you for this information, it is life changing!

I was eating salads and meat for 2 weeks. I was running in the morning and evening for a few hours. One day I got emotionally disturbed and had wheat cookies and porige. Next day, I couldn't jog and couldn't even walk for half a time I did previously. Eating salads and stoping sugar and wheat has increased my capacity to jog and excersise gradually, but starting wheat again had a reverse effect just in One Day.

William is amazing! He is so right. I never noticed until reading his books, that after eating oatmeal for breakfast in the morning at 8, my stomach was growling like crazy at 930. I also noticed that my hands would swell up for about six to seven hours after eating oatmeal. I always assumed it was because I was typing at work lol. I started eating eggs in the morning, stomach doesnt growl until lunch, hands didnt swell, just insane!!!

I think wheat wasn't a problem 50 years ago. Today wheat has been bred to increase gluten, the chromosome count is up much higher than in the past. Also now with all the Pesticides which swell the gut and is found in wheat, it's causing so many problems. It's a crime what theses chemical companies have done to our food, to our health.

I have been on 4 High Blood Pressure meds since i was 34. I am fit and my total cholesterol was really good. My doctors could not understand why my BP was so high at that age. The 4 meds got the BP down to around 130/84. I was supposed to be on these meds for the rest of my life. On my 50th birthday , i decided to experiment by giving up sugar , milk and wheat one at a time. When i gave up wheat, my blood pressure suddenly dropped to 112/76. Not even the 4 meds could give me those figures. I concluded that my BP problems must have been caused by the wheat and my body was naturally fighting it off hence my high BP. I stopped my meds for two days and my BP did not go up, went without the meds for a week and still had BP around 120/80. I now take a blend of flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, goji berries with my homemade coconut milk for breakfast and my BP is constantly below 120/84, my skin looks younger ,my brain is clearer and cholesterol is great.

I was sick recently for about a month. It got progressively worse with symptoms including severe bloating (upper abdomen & chest) that lasts all day, migraines out of nowhere, and fatigue. The doctor couldn't figure it out. By the 3rd week, after starting meds for bloating, I noticed a slight decrease in bloating, but would blow right back up if I at anything containing flour (bread, flour tortilla, a donut, etc). I'm typically not a big bread eater. So, long story short I cut the flour products completely out. We had a Gluten free Thanksgiving. I am a little over a week gluten free and I feel great. All of the symptoms are gone. It took about 3-4 days gluten free to start feeling better.

I absolutely love Dr. Davis however one thing he said in his discussion did not ring true to me, going off of sugar most certainly DOES give you similar effects of going off of wheat. I know this all too well personally from weening myself off of sugars (stopping cold turkey years ago) first, before I ever thought to get rid of wheat and all seeds of grass, due to issues with Candida and I can say 100% it is just like going off a low grade drug, with all of the 'fun' symptoms included. I am surprised he says this because he is a doctor and an advocate to not eat sugars, as mentioned in his books. I would think he would understand the dopamine release that happens in the brain when we eat sweets, and all the other similar wheat/sugar similarities. I really think he should collaborate with Dr. Lustig the crusader of a sugar free world and teach America and the world how to eat. Doctor Lustig mentions in his documentary 'toxic sugars' that the Paleolithic diet is a terrific way to cure type 2 diabetes. This lifestyle includes both a no sugar and no seeds of grass way of life. - Just food for thought. If two powerhouses like Dr. Davis and Dr. Lustig united with their factions of followers, I for-see wonderful things happening for the world of healthy eating, as Hippocrates said, "let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."

If you think you react to gluten - even if your blood tests came back negative to celiac - try cutting out gluten for at least 6 weeks anyway.
I was tested several times on celiac and it always came back negative.
Got diagnosed with IBS-D and put on medication.
After trying out a glutenfree diet myself it turned out I react to gluten and am now free from all my horrible IBS symptoms.
I heard that story many times now. Some people react to gluten without having celiac disease.

I'd given up gluten to address my IBS.
But one night, not having eaten all day - I ate a load of gluten-free bread.
And the next day, my IBS really flared up.
It was then that I knew that wheat was the issue - not least because after eating bran flakes, I was always aware of an immediate qualitative change that I couldn't really define.
But bear in mind that at this point - it was all about resolving my IBS.
So, I didn't eat wheat the next day ... and here's the fantastic thing - I discovered it cured my CFS/ME (aswell as the IBS)
My CFS had gotten progressively worse since my mid-20's (30 years ago).
It had gotten to the point that I couldn't walk very far or fast (or stand for long) because after half an hour, I'd have a mood and fatigue crash.
I'd wanted to go to a public firework display in November - but would only be able to do it if I took my bike to sit on (which effectively, was my wheelchair) because I couldn't stand for long ... so I didn't go.
But a day or so after giving up grains, I went out for an evening stroll - and about 2 hours after returning, realised I hadn't had any kind of mood crash ... and was very excited that it could be due to the grainlessness.
So the next evening, I decided I'd try and trigger a crash by walking faster - and when I got back, there was no crash.
I also realised that my knees hadn't buckled once during my walk as they constantly used to ... and that I could walk over uneven ground without looking like a ragdoll.
Now I was really excited.
So I decided I walk a really long way the next evening - and I walked for maybe an hour and jogged the last few hundred yards home ... and I hadn't run for years !
And no mood or fatigue crash !
Evidently, my muscles just weren't receiving the signals to burn and work - because I used to get breathless walking at a normal pace ... which completely disappeared.
The other effects were a quiet mind (none of the distracting mental 'static') - not being constantly hungry (I lost a stone without trying) - and being able to follow movie dialogue without effort (which I hadn't realised I was having to previously) aswell as being more observant of visual detail.
And after 6 months, I also realised that I hadn't had a single suicidal thought ... which before was routine and daily.
Giving up grains was truly transformational and had liberated me from neurological disability.

I’ve been off wheat for a week today- cutting off pastas and breads (which I eat every single day) and avoiding everything that has wheat in the ingredients.
I’m eating rice and potatoes in place of them, and my meals have become far more filling and spaced apart (because they aren’t as quick to make as the prior two are)
Besides feeling really hungry for the first 5 days, I feel really light and energetic and today I found myself getting mildly hungry at around 3 pm- even though I skipped breakfast.
I don’t have celiac disease, I just decided to do this to see if my body feels better and if I have any allergy to wheat.
It’s a lot easier than I thought it would be, I’m surprised by what the doctor is saying.

I have celiac dna, I was so sick for 10 years. I had nausea, gut pain, constipation, joint pain, a constant choked up feeling, and shortness of breath. The doctors said I did not have celiac disease, even though my mom and sister were celiacs the doctors said I wasn't based solely one one blood test . My shortness of breath was the most concerning symptom with puffers being the solution. When I got my dna done and it said I have one of two variants of celiac disease I went gluten free, just to see. After 3 days gluten free I began to recover, all my symptoms vanished one by one. I'm in the best health I've been ever been and suffer very few issues. My most recent problems have stemmed from glucose-fructose. Glucose is made with wheat and barley and it seems to have replaced sugar in many products. I could go on all day about this disease, it's awful to try and live in this society with celiac disease because gluten is in everything and people don't believe how dreadful gluten is.

I have been on 4 Blood Pressure medication since i was 34. My blood pressure is still high when i miss a day of medication but my sugar and cholesterol levels were really good. I baffled my Doctor. Many tests and scans failed to point out the cause of the high BP. When i turned 51 this year i decided to give up Gluten and Sugar and after two weeks , my BP dropped to 117/72 for the first time. I decided to skip my medications for two days and my BP was even better 112/70. I bought a new BP monitor just to make sure it was correct and it's still below 117/75 everyday. I should have done this 21 years ago instead of popping pills. ''You are indeed what you eat''. My body has been fighting the poisons i have been putting into it , hence my high BP from the age of 32. I haven't felt this good in a long time.

Nothing new here...we're heard for decades that if you want to lose weight remove all starchy carbs, bread, potatoes and basta on the pasta! Have started the Wheat Belly diet since I'm relatively slim except for a wheat belly. Have tried virtually every diet ever created and most of them work but the weight will come back if one doesn't stick to maintenance. Also, certified nutritionist here and have been a fitness trainer so this all interests me. My big question since I study French culture, is how do they esp. the Parisians eat all their 246 kinds of cheese, pastries, baquettes daily and croissants and still remain slim? I know they eat tiny portions compared to us with our super sizing and they walk a lot, but they seem to get away with eating the way they do and smoke as well! Go figure! We don't hear about them dying of heart disease or cancer although some of them must...maybe it's all that wine and champagne they drink??

I am gluten and wheat free for a month now and I see huge improvements in my psoriasis skin as well as it cleared up most of my flaky scalp too, as a bonus my joint pains as result from this autoimmune disease has completely gone. Couldn't believe it as I literally tried every diet and ointment on the planet. I am aware of the fact that this would not help everyone, but I am sure that wheat and gluten are a no-go zone for me. I feel so much fitter and healthier. I wonder what happens after a year if even after one month of gluten free is already so powerful.

Be wise and try it yourself! Experience is the best teacher. I had recently been suffering from thyroid issues and a skin rash issue that didn't heal for over a year. I went to a year of immunotherapy allergy shots with no improvement, a dermatologist, with no relief, and then began looking for other options. I figured that giving up gluten for a season was a small sacrifice to test this doctor's hypothesis. I went farther though, I also gave up all GMOs and sugar, all meat, only consuming non-GMO foods and organic fruits and veggies. In two weeks, ALL of my "allergy" symptoms cleared up. My brain fog has lifted and my energy levels are through the roof. AMAZING!!! This is going to be a permanent lifestyle change for me. For all the naysayers, one can deny a truth based on personal ideologies, but not personal experience.

Sugar is also a killer. I have been off it for 2 weeks now and my energy has been more stable, and my eye sight improved and I dropped 2lbs in 2weeks. No wonder people in the USA suffer with obesity. Its the wheat and sugar combo. Now I also gave up grains and suagr a while back for about 8 months and my life changed in many ways, from memory to energy and sleep, I sorta felt like a super hero. Well I slipped back into life long old ways.... but now im deciding that feeling like crap all the time sucks and I know what to do to get out of it. So just here to remind myself in something I already believe in.

I respect this guy and I respect and strongly advocate a gluten-free diet (wheat, rye, spelt, barley free). That being said I think it's a bit of a cop-out to say all grains are bad. We essentially eat the seeds of grain plants so saying that is bad is comparable to saying eating nuts from trees or seeds from things like sunflowers or pumpkin seeds is bad.

Buckwheat porridge made from buckwheat groats is great with Stevia and sea salt along with almond milk for breakfast. Soaks the groats 2 times in boiling water and leave overnight to soften and cuts the cooking time down to 15 mins and then blend just a tiny bit and add in almond milk, salt and Stevia. Buckwheat pasta is gluten free too!

I was diagnosed with IBS 2 years ago. I have extreme stomach pain. A rash on my back for the last 2 years. I have changed my diet to a gluten free diet. I do mess that up thinking a little couldn't hurt. My biggest problem is I've lost over 20 pounds. I've weighed the same weight of 95 pounds my entire life. I am 63 years old and need to gain more weight. Does anyone know how I can achieve weight gain on a gluten free diet ?

Very informative. Not sure if I'm buying the entire 'all grains are evil' idea, but I'm on board with ditching wheat. I've felt the effects firsthand (diminished pain, skin rashes, and GERD), and love the increased energy. Still love my other grains like GF oats, rice, corn and potatoes, but I've definitely cut down how much breads have dominated my diet.

Wow, Doctor Davis is so knowledable about wheat!
I listened to Wheat Belly on compact disk. The book is well worth the time. I also need to read:
Grain Brain:
The Surprising Truth about Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar--Your Brain's Silent Killers by David Perlmutter.
Brown rice has a glycemic index of 50. White rice has a glycemic index of 89!
The glycemic index is based around white cane sugar, which has a glycemic index
of 100.
The thing is, Doctor Davis never makes a big deal about white sugar or corn
syrup, which definitely make people obese, diabetic and spike insulin. To be
healthy, you have to give up sugar, corn syrup and cut way back on the wheat or
give wheat up all together.
If he is still eating sugar, that would explain the extra pounds on him.

I had psoriasis all my life, and didn't know what triggered it. At the age of 20, I was tired of putting creams of my body everyday and decided to find the trigger. Long story short, all the foods that the doctor told me not to eat wasn't the problem, it was gluten. I was shocked, and at the time, this whole gluten free "fad" was just starting. I didn't believe it myself and repeated my experiment twice more, all with the same result. One slice of pizza and my skin was breaking out again. Ever since I kicked gluten out of my diet, I never suffered from psoriasis again (save from the times I consume it by accident). Life got so much better, my mind became sharper, my joint pains were gone too, and my stomach became flat! Best thing that's ever happened to me!

Stopped gluten. Felt rough for first week then many many times better after that. Better guts, better energy and normal appetite. Going forward, I will need to come away from gluten-free foods (expensive and not necessarily healthy) and eat more single-ingredient foods. But for now, enjoying the changes created by dropping gluten.

Very true. I think that some people can stand grains, but in general they are good to avoid, especially wheat. Of course, sugar, MSG, and refined/processed foods, along with chemicals, etc. are also very bad for us. Wheat is not the only problem, but it is one of the biggest, and like sugar is in most processed food.

Thats amazing. And I am a wheat farmer. Id like to know if handling the grain has any effect of you if you were to totally cut it out of your diet. And Id like to ask him. What If I plant Emmer wheat?! I dono if i could sell it anywhere. Wonder if I could start another market for it and get this crap turned around. I really always hated how they screw with the breeds of wheat or any crop for that matter and then thats what we are sold for seed to grow. They have genetically modified corn and soybeans and lots of other crops. I HATE it! I always knew it wasnt right and this is proof. I myself have definitely noticed my health not being what it should be.. Boy I'd like to get this turned around. Thanks for this awesome well informed video.

Not for me, using normal local wheat flour...in France people don't seem to have as much problems with gluten as the rest of the world...maybe the polyphenol in the wine have something thing to do with??? French people dont snack on between meals....this way blood sugar levels stay leveled??? Just wondering...

On a second note, he pushed a point about high-sugar foods being bad, there are only 3 macronutrients (protein, fat, sugar), you can't eat majority of calories from protein (protein poisoning risk) so most of your calories either come from carbs/sugar or fats (saturated, mono/polyunsaturated). We are told sugar is bad (and by extension, carbs), we are told Saturated fats are bad, we are also told not to eat too much omega-6 polyunsaturated fats because that is bad). ... ... What the hell are we supposed to eat in this case??

Well, yes if you suffer from any inflammatory diseases such as any auto-immune diseases, digestive, and/or inflammation-related illness you need to go gluten-free. Many times with these health problems you gain "fluff" which are pounds gained that have nothing to do with body-fat. There are now many studies that support this.

Personally, I'm on keto because my body doesn't feel good on carbs. So, do what's best for your body. Do what makes it feel good, eat what makes it feel good. I was diagnosed with Celiac about 8 years ago and have completely removed gluten from my diet. I also have hashimoto's disease. I have done labs proving I am not exposed to gluten). I am VERY diligent and serious about this. I do feel better, but I have also removed caseine (all dairy and egg products) and sugar, honey, red meat, sunflower, lemon all of which I showed positive in a blood food allergy test. . My DSdna and ANA are both positive and I can't seem to find a doctor to explain all of the shortness of breath, dizziness (two seizures), chronic fatigue, chronic joint pain. Does anyone else experience the same issues with having removed gluten? One doc suspects it is also lupus. I have seen a cardiologist, pulmonary specialist, neurologist with no real further diagnosis. If I do have lupus, what's next! I use various supplements including okra, minerals, vitamin D.

BEWARE - As one with a nutrition degree, gluten and wheat is VERY GOOD for you and an essential part of the AVERAGE persons diet... I would recommend to ONLY go on a gluten free diet if you have a gluten intolerance/allergy or another condition relating to gluten. Everything he speaks about, the benefits of cutting out gluten, can be achieved with other diet and lifestyle changes. And if you do cut gluten out, do some research on the rest of your diet or consult your doctor, because you are at RISK for nutrient deficiencies such as folate and vit B which can cause problems. BEWARE...

O.K. I'm very impressed. I thought the gluten brigade were just another cultist gathering. Having made my own bread for nearly twenty years. I actually add extra gluten to improve the rise since I use wholegrain flour in the recipe. I read once that was the thing to do. Love my morning toast!! We also eat oats(organic). I thought oats were a super food! I was sucked in by that now international food pyramid promoting the importance of grains in one's diet. After watching this I was shocked. Then I thought I have to change my diet. Then I remembered a recent fact that the Italians are one of the healthiest populations on earth. Guess what! They eat a lot of pasta. Pasta is made from wheat!!!! Now I'm really confused.

If grains are so bad for us, then how do you explain the great health of the Italian people? They consume grains in the form of breads, pastries, and pastas every day. They also eat rice and farro, Italian whole wheat. And at the same time, they remain one of the healthiest populations on Earth. The Mediterranean diet has long been studied for its numerous health benefits, and whole grains are a primary component of it.

What options would a vegan have to eat if they are not allowed grains? I would like to buy his Wheat Belly cookbook, but I don't want to animal products in my recipes. Is there a vegan alternative?

Why on earth would anyone take health advice from a guy with fat jowls and a double chin? You should try and interview Dr. Neal Barnard or Dr. John McDougall if you're interested in promoting healthy eating habits. They have a mountain of studies that go against everything William Davis says and they actually look healthy themselves, which I think says something about the foods they promote.

Gluten is great. I wish you people would just say grain or wheat free. Gluten by itself once separated from grains is a great ingredient. I eat keto, lost 50 pounds, while eating gluten in my keto cookies and keto bread. All the while gluten gets the blame for the Chaff parts of wheat. I get it if you have gluten sensitivity or worse. Otherwise the problems this guy goes on about is a symptom of the other parts of wheat and grains, not the gluten. Even when he is asked directly about pure gluten he still finds ways of slipping in Grains. If you listen to this guy, you will lose weight without question. Because he wants you to stop eating wheat and grains and sugar. Gluten all by itself is not the problem and still can be a good ingredient. He just goes on about cigarettes. If you are allergic to nuts, dont eat them because you will have bad symptoms. The rest of us dont have to stop eating them. Pay more attention to the Carbs. Gluten can be removed but they will leave all the wheat chaff in the food, then you think your good.

I have a knack for detecting fear mongering charlatans. For every one, non controversial truth this guy says, he says 9 other things that are either completely false, self contradicting, or completely manipulates facts by comparing results with studies that bare no correlation. I always find it fishy when people pretending to be all about nutrition and people's well being look like they never stepped on a treadmill in their life.

So are all kinds of whole grain cereals just bad for you because they contain an excess amount of sugar that our body doesn't need? So you saying I shouldn't eat rice, oats, wheat, maize, barley, rye, or millet products? Damn that eliminates a lot of the dishes I enjoy. They need to update the food pyramid. I just cut dairy out of my diet and it's hard. No more ice cream, pizza, mac & cheese, yogurt, cakes, smoothies. Sigh, but now I gotta learn to cut pasta, stir fried dishes, sushi and other things? What the hell do I eat then doc? Is quinoa a good alternative?

White basmati rice is gluten free..safer to eat as a carb than say, brown rice or wheat. The rice is stripped of the inflammatory husk, anti- nutrients & arsenic. Lower in starch as well but still require portion control bcos it is a high glycemic food. 🙄
