John McDougall suggests that starch-based diets are the foods humans were born to eat. Asa P Asa P 4 years ago In Kathmandu, we grow most of our fruits and veggies organically. Also, my family has a tradition of quitting meat once you are 50 and we hardly eat processed food. As a result, everyone has lived to be 90 or more and not so long ago, 4 generations lived in the same house. I keep hearing how we need a high protein diet to be healthy, but then I’d think about all those past societies he mentioned and their high carb diets and it didn’t add up. I think the missing link may be sugar—the carb we eat the most but does us the most harm. All those past diets are based on complex carbs with little to no sugar and only naturally occurring in the foods they were eating (such as fructose in fruit). 305 Kevin Robb Kevin Robb 2 years ago I have great respect for Dr. M. I believe this diet works for many people. I have been diabetic for many years. I followed his recommendations for many months. Easy to follow and loved the food. My results however were terrible. My blood sugar went up more than ever. I took a year off work to find the solution for my health. I tried many different food plans. Eating grains starches and beans made my blood sugar go up every time. Finally I followed a Keto diet and within 30 days my blood sugar returned to normal. I have followed this plan for more than 2 years. To be honest I would prefer to follow Dr M,s food plan, it just doesn't work for me. If at some time I become more carb tolerant I will eat more. I always eat a big low carb salad. I eat healthy fats like avocados and coconut oil. I very rarely it any processed food. I think the most important thing we can do is eat real food. What we don't need to do is attack people who follow a different plan. One size does not fit everyone. I would have no problem recommending Dr M's diet, and have many times. I have talked to many people about the Keto diet. At work I've talked to several women who went on this diet before I worked there. There results were amazing. I never push people to follow any particular diet. If you're interested Dr Jason Fung is a good source of information. If it works for you fine. If not that's fine too. The bottom line is we need to take responsibility for our own health. Peace 23 Judith Moloba Judith Moloba 6 years ago My grandma died at age 105... Don't smoke, don't take legal/illegal drugs, don't drink a lot, sleep early and plenty, avoid stress. 306 TDZ TDZ 5 years ago This video proves you don't have to bounce around to make a great speech. Great program! 40 The Cat Lady The Cat Lady 2 years ago (edited) I want to add to his saying that we eat like “kings and queens”...the food that is now provided is not just easily accessible, it’s also just processed with the cheapest of materials and unfortunately they are high in calories and give little nutritional value. And this food is systematically placed in the more low income areas. It’s easy cheap and quick to eat. So I wouldn’t say it’s like eating like kings and queens...it’s the modern diet set up to make the most profit quick. It’s hurting our health just for a profit in not just the food industry but also health care. It’s all about profit at the expense of our lives. 109 Sharon Small Sharon Small 8 years ago Read Eating on the Wild Side by Jo Robinson. Paleo, carnivore, raw food, FODMAP, I could go on for days. Bottom line, nothing has ever worked better than McDougall’s plan did for me. Beans are my superfood. Potatoes, not so much. But beans, veggies, fruit, polenta, a little rice, that’s where true health lies. For me anyway. I know everyone has their “That didn’t work for me!” story. And that’s fine. But for me, starch worked when nothing else did. Oh, and BTW, I’m a Blood Type O, the so called hunter/gatherer meat eater. 4 Ghosts Ghosts 3 years ago rice, corn, potatoes. this is the lives we live. strong, healthy and happy. 60 Grace Ojuka Grace Ojuka 2 years ago Africans eat a ton of starch; cassava, sweet potatoes, millet, corn (maize). The main dish is always a starch, served with green vegetables, beans, peas usually cooked with some nut butter like peanut (groundnut) or sesame seeds (simsim). Growing up in Uganda, our family ate meat once a week. We did have milk, fresh from our cows. I do not remember seeing any overweight people. Two years ago, I went home and ate just like they do, totally against my American diet. Every meal was packed with starchy grain or root vegetables. I thought for sure I was going to gain weight. To my surprise, I lost 7 pounds in about 4 weeks. I did notice that they eat a small breakfast then lunch and dinner. They eat little to no snacks in between so you go for at least 4 hours without eating anything. Plus, they walk everywhere. 3 Andrew Norris Andrew Norris 2 years ago (edited) It's fibre part. Wholefood unprocessed starch contains lots of fibre (indigestible starch) - that feeds the microbiome. Can increase this by heating and cooling. Starch without fibre (white rice) is very bad for us. Humans only recently started removing the fibre from starch. There are good fats. Nuts, Avocados, olive oil. Fish are also linked to longevity. 3 mark y mark y 7 years ago I felt a dramatic difference in one day after going to the starch diet, amazing. 120 Greg Stokes Greg Stokes 5 years ago Some of what you say makes sense.....but as Marine, I have never ever been fat or sick. I might share that I have not eaten beef since I was 18, and I am very sure that I would be dead, or near death, now, in my 50's, if I had. I eat some chicken once or twice per month, I've eliminated milk and use Oatly instead -- though it is not non-GMO and it is not organic (my next step is to make my own oat milk) -- but it is very difficult to give up beautiful cheese. I love all types of cheese. Recently I substituted cheese with olives and pickles, as a snack, and that seems to be working. I have read that, in the East, people ferment veggies, which may serve as a salty treat like cheese does. That is also on my list to figure out how to make. 13 Chris Bauer Chris Bauer 1 year ago I think what we learn from this is really that different diets affect different people differently! For every video or study saying eat starch there's one saying eat keto! Some people do well with low carb, some handle starch fine, others in between. What is more consistent is that less processed foods are superior for everyone's health! I'm done being constantly anxious about my diet! 26 Krish satya krishna Krish satya krishna 1 year ago Marvellous lecture 👌went unnoticed by me for 8 years. 12 K4113B4113 K4113B4113 1 year ago What's so interesting is that I read the same types of comments on high carb/vegan/keto/paleo videos. They all go something like "I switched to said diet and lost X amount of pounds and could stop taking X and X medicine and my blood levels improved, my energy, mood etc". How is this possible when the diets seem so contradictory? We all seem to lean in one direction and vehemently oppose the other side even when they're speaking of their health improving. We should celebrate each others health. It is however interesting to note the similarities in these different diets. They all focus on foods found in nature. Another thing worth noting is that the diets aren't super specific and so they can be practiced in a number of different ways, for example someone doing keto might include seed oils (and perhaps have terrible health consequences because of it) and someone does vegan might eat a lot of refined sugars (and experience the terrible consequences of that). Also, different humans might thrive on different foods. We know that about allergies and such but maybe it also extends to overall health in regards to our diets. And if nothing else, at least we can all agree that fasting is healthy for us no matter what diet we choose. 5 Daniel Chavez Daniel Chavez 5 years ago "The solution is simple, but it doesn't favor business." God bless Dr. MCDOUGAL 8 lasvegasloner lasvegasloner 3 years ago As usual, we likely need a combination of what we used to eat before any manipulation of food (including agriculture) and good habits for hygiene and finding a daily living standard, if possible, that is not stressful all day. So mixing how we used to live thousands of years ago with modern aid in case we do get seriously hurt or sick, should be helpful. Looking at everything all these "experts" say in moderation.... and you come up with something like this. --eat mostly things that grow; plants that aren't toxic in some way. Greens, some tubers, beans, limited fruit. --the occasional meat is not bad and can give a boost in some nutrients that help with repair and growth when young. Once a week, maybe every other week, some fowl, fish without pollution (good luck), very limited red meats. Each person may need to tweak their diet depending on learned allergies and certain irritations, and genetics will likely some day show that humans are so varied with adapting to environments that some onus will ACTUALLY BE HEALTHIER WITH DIFFERENT PROPORTIONS OF THESE FOOD TYPES than others. If your lineage is from thousands of generations of people eating fish, or for example lots of grasses and nuts from 12,000 years ago, then you probably don't feel very well having cheeseburgers every week. Some people might actually live a shorter life BUT feel better and stronger eating more meat than the rest of us. I still believe we're generally from the same vague living standards the further you go back in history, and that's likely slight amounts of plant life every day to keep alive with the occasional take of animal based food. The animals back then remember, were all organic and lean, eating nutritious diets of their own in the wild. The meat was sometimes likely containing parasites, but still very clean and healthy if they cooked it. The true "hunter-gatherers" were likely more "gatherer --occasionally lucky hunter".... with lots of medium exercise walking/ jogging to catch that prey. Likely missing prey most of the time because it was difficult and dangerous. There's your exercise and mostly vegetable diet with occasional proteins. All good. We should exercise to make up for the loss of that life style, several times a week, nothing crazy unless you have high-impact hobbies... that's up to you. Every other week or so, take about 12 to 14 hours out of eating anything at all. This more than likely happened to humans in the Paleolithic times out of normal environmental and competitive challenges, and we had to adapt to that or we wouldn't be here. As usual, everything in moderation. Good luck. 5 Sharon Foster Sharon Foster 2 years ago The rice, wheat, and corn in my local supermarket today is not the same rice, wheat, and corn that my grandmother ate 110 years ago. Dr. McDougall doesn't mention that. He also never uses the word "sugar" and never explains how 21st century Americans are supposed to get essential amino acids and essential fatty acids from carbohydrates without taking copious quantities of supplements. 2 James Barclay James Barclay 3 years ago Medical student, on average, during their entire training and residences, get anywhere from two to four days of information. The most informative and knowledgeable medical people I found were Registered Dieticians and Registered Nurses. The worst diets I found were in hospitals where I found overcooked, under flavored and bland and just plain unhealthy food such as fried eggs, undercooked pork, overcooked beef, overcooked vegetables, processed starches, commercial dry cereals, sandwiches that are either tasteless or poorly made; the tuna fish sandwiches were loaded with mayonnaise and they buy the cheapest and poorest quality condiments, coffees, teas and much of the diet is loaded with processed sugars and vegetable oils. I asked a head chef why he did not have olive oil or grape seed oil and he said it was too expensive and his budget could not cover "such luxuries". 1 Dane Smith Dane Smith 2 years ago The Japanese traditional diet has scored more than once as the second most healthy diet in the world. And while starch heavy it's the rich amounts of fish that actually pull it up. There are so many nutrients that are best gained from the sea that the "rich" western diet ignores. My childhood was in Seattle and I fell in love with seafood there, it's sad that now living in Florida it's so much harder to get good seafood. In short we are a species of omnivores, and that means that we need to eat a little bit of everything. Even the meat of other animals. The mistake is in eating an excess of anything. 6 O²B O²B 8 years ago This doctor knows what he is talking about. His life has been surrounded by patients of various diseases. He is an expert. I had no choice but to leave then, but I know that the islands of Hawaii have that magic power to hold you there for good. I met hundreds of people who all discovered this irresistible call! As for eating habits, I totally agree that starches are critical for good health. I love potatoes, sweet and other, I love root veggies, especially red beets. I never eat meat, never have and never will. Veggies and fruit is all one needs to be healthy and strong. Just like me: I've never had a doctor in my life, never had a chronic disease, am trim and strong as can be, and have energy to sell! That's how it should be, and that's how I'm going to keep it! Yay! During WWII, people mostly ate beets, potatoes, rice and they survived and were all trim and strong. But then, they turned around and against these food items, since they fancied that eating lots of meat meant they were "wealthy" and had the money to afford it. What a big mistake! Most of those diets were fruit, vegetable and grain based. Hunting for meat wasn't an every day thing and of course animals aren't going to die for your leisure. Hunting was hard work which is why gathering (fruits and vegetables) became the main part of nutrition. He isn't lying to you. Our bodies weren't meant to handle high sugar, meat and chemical diets. Try it. If you don't believe eating this diet will work that's fine but what can you possible lose from truly eating healthy? Furthermore we eat to live but our civilisations have developed this concept of food as an art and have come to this commercial proposition to enjoy eating sophisticated meals, therefore to see eating as one of our main preoccupation in our daily life. Eating tasty foods is the great consolation for the populations at large with a hard life. Once we see foods as a pleasurable moment in life which it is we look at any foods which stimulate our appetite and give us pleasure eating regardless of the consequences of eating unhealthy and disregarding its toxicity. We can eat well with simple foods, this goes against the interests of the food industry and unfortunately requires to cook ourselves at home which is time consuming, and time is not on the side of the industrial slaves of today. We need to rethink the way we live and work since we have lost the natural and simple way to feed ourselves. Eating to live is a priority which is not understood anymore by most advance industrialised countries, we live to eat and consume as a matter of priority, the way to go about it is left to the food industry who have one priority which is to make money not to feed the populations. Most manufactured foods are not foods at all and their level of toxicity is high with serious consequences for the health of consumers. It was said at the time of ancienne Greece let the foods be your medicine, this was very correctly said. Two thousand three hundred years later or about we have transform this truth into its opposite, let foods be our poison. Is this what we call progress? 2 Wiki Dinsdale Wiki Dinsdale 5 years ago This is what I have been looking for and I'm glad I came across it. Down into the middle of the video, I was waiting for the punch line. But the punchline came when I realized that he was serious. Almost all the evidence that I heard was based on correlation and not causation; that's called bad science. If someone used to be sick because he used to consume dairy and vegetable oil, then he got better by removing those and relying on starch, it doesn't mean that starch is the solution, but it might equally mean that dairy and vegetable oils are bad for that person. He used so many concepts as evidence, yet he hasn't shown any comprehensive studies. I wonder if he has seen any of the overwhelming studies on the Ketogenic diet- which I used to treat my metabolic syndrome, and treating cancer. But I digress... I agree, cut sadly there are no longer hundreds of strands as she was, and the few strands we do have are genetically modified to a poisoned point... Corn and Potatoes are no longer what they were. In my area, the nearest ocean is San Francisco. I mention this to say that we are told to only eat 1 fish a year from around here due to the poisons in the oceans. So there too goes our Native American ways of receiving our Omega 3 naturally. We indigenous peoples can no longer eat what our Ancestors did to be healthy. So I sadly cannot agree with his examples in eating as the ancients she to be healthy as they were. The Corn and Potatoes from that time no longer exists 2 PCTS2010 PCTS2010 7 years ago In my opinion, people need to stop looking for ONE cure all diet or health solution. The body is complex, and it's function differs from person to person. It has been shown over the last 70 years that any diet that has been proposed over that time, has worked for some individuals, and of course if you are the person proposing the diet, then you will naturally focus on those individuals that have been positively affected - ( a little thing known as confirmation bias). There is of course nothing wrong with this, as you can see that people are being helped from their current level of health to an improved state of health. This is great, but, the problem exists when you say that your diet is correct for EVERYONE! and that your diet is the ONLY way to improve health, then you are standing on a very slippery slope. I do not believe there is a perfect human diet. As a race, we have evolved eating many different diets depending on our climate, location, even the season will have effected how we ate, etc... Of course there have been populations that have survived and thrived on plant based diets, just as there have been populations that have survived on protein and fat based diets. We have survived because we figured out, through trial and error, what worked for us. It is only now that we are trying to fix every person with a silver bullet. I am reminded of a saying, "If all you have is a hammer, then everything looks like a nail" We need to recognise the differences in human biology, and realise that just blindly following someones recommendations will not necessarily lead to optimal health. By all means use it as a starting point, if what you are doing currently is not working, then change and regularly take the time to stop and reflect on how it is working for you. Is it still the best option or is there some tweaks that need to be made. Lets remove the dogma from nutrition, and accept that your answer will be different to mine. 24 Thomas Cook Thomas Cook 5 years ago Funny that I'm watching this now in 2017 and most of his arguments have been proven to be incredibly shallow and cherry picked data. We have now learned that the reason the SAD diet is terrible for multiple reasons, quickly digested sugar, increased glucose density, toxin uptake and retention in all foods, decreased organic nutrients, increased in feeding frequency and amount, increased caloric consumption, and increased fat storage. Its not so simple as starch vs protein. Candace Coran Candace Coran 2 years ago Every time you turn around, some genius has a new idea about what a healthy diet is...there are so many books out there that tell us how to change our diets, that it would take a life time to read them all...by then, we will have died from trying them out. 4 J D J D 2 years ago The exact opposite of keto is what he's saying. I'm here now watching this vlog because I just quit doing keto diet yesterday. I've been on a keto diet for a few weeks and I noticed that I didn't lose weight at all. What really worked for me is the calorie deficit diet or fast 800 diet and that is already tried and tested by me. I noticed that on keto diet, my waistline increased. I was on OMAD with intermittent fasting, but it wasn't really effective for me which is quite disappointing. On a low-calorie diet, I could lose weight in an instant and I can easily see the improvement of my weight and waistline in just a week. But on keto diet, my abs disappeared even if I was consistently exercising every day. I just tried the keto diet because I've heard a lot of benefits about it like treating diseases, clearing up the skin, lowering blood sugar level and what I liked the most is, it would make you lose weight EASILY (that's what they claimed) and what happened to me is the opposite, I literally gained weight considering that I was on a strict keto diet with intermittent fasting. When I was on low-calorie diet, my weight was 43 kilos and then it became 49.9 kilos after 5 weeks of doing strict keto diet. I feel better when I don't eat fatty foods, I feel lighter. Adding fats on my diet really is against my will but I had to, for the sake of keto diet. Before I began doing this type of diet, my waistline was 23 inches and now it's 27 inches and this is mentally draining for me. It sucks big time! Keto Diet is not really for everyone. I also don't like the amount of restrictions on this type of diet, the keto flu, leg cramps and bad breath are outrageous! For active people like me, I really need my carbohydrates! And now that I'm back to low-calorie diet, I feel a lot better knowing that I could eat anything I want without feeling guilty. If you want to lose weight, plant-based/vegan diet is even so much better than keto diet. Love these Ted talks!!!🙏🤩 Martin Cleary Martin Cleary 4 years ago The doctor says that we were skinnier back in the 70s. But the diet of the 70s wasn't especially healthy by modern convention. In the UK we ate meat pies, fried potatoes, bacon and egg, meat and two veg lunches, sausages, steaks, cheese, fish and chips, milk, stews etc. I'm pretty sure that the US diet too would have been more along these lines back in the 70s. In the 80s government advice was to cut down on red meat, eggs, fried food and to prioritise carbohydrates. So people in the UK have switched to a rather more carb based diet. We eat a lot more pizza and pasta and rice and fruit juice than we used to, and I believe rather more bread and cookies too, all because it was believed that this was rather less harmful that the default British diet which tends to slightly eschew eating bread/pasta/rice/pizza/fruit juice/soda pop and rather concentrates on meat(and potatoes)/pies/stews/Sunday roasts/ cuppa tea/fried breakfasts with a bit of fruit here and there. The UK 70s diet also involved a lot less fast food, fish and chips excepted. The doctor mentions China. I currently live in China. The Chinese for the most part are strikingly skinny. They look a bit like British people did back in the 1940s. Their diet is not really as starch based as the doctor suggests. Sure, they do usually eat either noodles or rice with each meal. But the main thing about the Chinese diet is the sheer variety of food that is consumed. A .typical chinese dinner will include a bowl of rice, but also leafy green vegetables, fish, pickles, a simple soup...and often there will be a combination of meats and vegetables. When Chinese people are having a feast....they will sometimes neglect to eat any rice at all, concentrating only on meat/fish/tofu/veggies. Chinese noodles are I would say typically eaten more or less as part of a soup. You basically choose what you want to go into that soup, and you can choose from a lot of different veggies..eg Chinese leaf/mushrooms/lettuce/spring onion, also tofu, egg, bits of meat either fresh or processed, even fried chinese bread. Anyway, the point is, it's up to you. You are pretty much free to choose the contents of your noodle dish. You pay for it according to your selection of ingredients, and it is then cooked in front of you.The resulting combination is not necessarily very carb heavy. It is however much more varied in content than most comparable western dishes, rather veggie based, though there will usually be some meat.(it's up to you..you could choose just meat to accompany your noodles but given a proper choice I doubt that anyone would do this). This is a very liquid meal, very hearty, and filling. A large bowl of this in the afternoon will pretty much fill you up for the rest of the day and I suspect it is this type of thing that is the reason for the rather svelte outline of the Chinese people. Honestly, after eating this stuff you have no desire to have a sweet dessert, graze on potato chips and chocolate whatsoever. You are full. 2 Inner Scenes Music Inner Scenes Music 3 years ago I find it strange that he does not address at all the negative sides of eating starches. If you eat a lot of rice, bread or pasta this will spike your blood sugar. Insulin has to rush in to prevent damage. Over time this pattern of eating is also not good at all. But there is a huge difference between 'the diet of kings' where you just eat as much and whatever you want, and a balanced / moderate diet which consists of starches and vegetables. The last one is no doubt much better. But you could also eat a moderate, well thought-out diet based primarily on meat and vegetables. That would probably work too. I feel there are a lot of subtle points not mentioned at all here. Very hard to believe that starches are suddenly the solution to everything. This one solution for everything-idea is rarely ever true. Many of them pulled out of society's SAD diet and pull out all the stops to regain their health or rid themselves of physical pain. The ones in either group that are not well may have missed the other many lifestyle necessities for health, spirituality, sunlight (light, water and magnetism taught by Dr. Jack Kruse MD), exercise, breath work, optimal sleep, stress management, living in the right environment for their bodies, positive social connections and having 'purpose.' in life. I believe that those who seek wisdom and knowledge fair best. For each of us there may well be a time for all manner of 'eating' a time of abstaining and a time of fasting. Wheat, it seems to me, is processed several times until it is consumable. Wouldn't it make more sense to eat a food that naturally occurs like a gourd--watermelon, for example--versus something that is processed, like rice? Eating rice and wheat in their natural state would not be natural for humans....your teeth would wear out. With respect to meat, a very very small portion seems like what makes sense. After the dozens of nutrition related TED talks, podcasts, videos, etc., the comments below this and every other related video are as divided as ever. Even the comments agreeing with the sentiment of the video claim that different foods that have been eaten in their family for generations and kept them healthy are the right diet. I have become very interested in health in nutrition over roughly the past two years, so in pursuit of the truth I've come across a lot diets and info that contradict each other and yet always and never work. Essentially, my point is that there is not one right diet for everyone. The reason why some claim that being vegetarian is the best thing for you while others claim it to be the killer of your fertility and health is because it's true for both people respectively. So far, the most interesting theory on health, lifestyle and nutrition I have heard about is that of Dr. Peter D'Adamo and his talk about "Blood Type Diets." Essentially the way you eat and exercise can greatly benefit from eating / not eating certain foods depending on your blood type. It's linked to lectins within foods as well as some other factors that he explains best himself in his lectures which I highly recommend. It's very sound and based on observations from him and his father, together with some more fundamental science behind it to explain the claims. He doesn't tell you to never eat foods that are on your "bad" list ever again, he says that if you're healthy, there's no problem with eating "bad" stuff, but that if you get older and/or sick, you should stick more closely to what's actually good for you. Lydia Tyburski Lydia Tyburski 8 months ago (edited) I don't think "getting ahead" should be the goal if you want to live in unison with earth. Being moderate in your consumption of meat is a good compromise between extreme dietary changes that are threatening to people who have no experience with diet changes. The goal should be to live a compassionate society where animals are treasured and cared for by each person, and loved, and then I think veganism will naturally result from different values. If we all were in touch with animals on a daily basis we would feel their love and be healed by their amazing spirits, and have less need to compete with one another. A plant based diet is a very good idea but starch is not a good idea at all. Starch based food is converted to sugars which spikes insuline. If this happens too much the body gets insulineresistant and this causes low grade inflammation in the entire body. This is the number one cause of disease in these times. So this man is partly correct. Human beings are originally seed, nuts, vegetables and fruit eaters. Melissa Graham Melissa Graham 5 years ago It annoys me that when it comes to nutrition, people and even doctors are not considering one important factor: body types! We have Ectomorphs, Mesomorphs and Endomorphs, all will very different type of body structures, fat distributions and nutritional needs. You may feed an ectomorph and an endomorph the same way, and you will have very different results. An ectomorph needs a lot of carbs because they burn up sugar very quickly with their high metabolisms, and a high carb diet helps them to maintain their weight... but if you give the same amount of carbs to an endomorph, they will gain weight in a heartbeat. You cannot feed everyone the same. There are also very different structural differences by race. Asians have a tendency to be slimmer, and even have different earwax than other races. Most asians cannot tolerate lactose which is why it is basically unexistent in their diets. Northern scandinavians seem to be able to tolerate lactose just fine... What I mean to say is that we have been trying to feed everyone the same things when we are not even considering that everyone has a different set of structural compositions that we need to look at before suggesting that everyone will benefit from a specific type of diet. My suggestion is to find what works best for you. Try it all and keep what makes you feel good. And definitely stay away from junk and processed foods and replace with healthy fresh food, in the amounts that are pertinent to your specific body type. 15 Zachariah Whiton Zachariah Whiton 2 years ago (edited) McDougall for president 2024! 🇺🇸 💥 The end of the video when he was really going off was extremely presidential and I’d rather vote for him than Trump or Biden. 3 Fionnuala Murphy Fionnuala Murphy 4 years ago i love you and your message cheeky Dr McDougall! keep up the good work xxx 1 wim lammens wim lammens 3 years ago John is an exeptional doctor, doctor are in business because people are sick, if people would be healthy, they would be out of a job. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️ 5 Bronwyn Evans Bronwyn Evans 1 year ago Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa, Dr. McDougall and Heather. I loved your videos on potatoes. Watched/listened to both of them the same day. Now, listening to both protein videos. Tragic that rats (& others) are used to determine what is or isn't healthy, and what is or isn't safe as medication for humans. 2 Sue Elg Sue Elg 1 year ago Dr. Mc Dougall: You are a Great Library on nutrition yourself! D. 1 year ago Good content. I wish more people would listen to you. I went to eating a starch based diet with fruits and vegetables and got healthy and slim. No more medications anything. People look and see im lean and not carrying alot of fat on me. Some people are rude but when I look at them it's sad. They look like they are suffering from food poison. So large with bulges on top of them. All that you say is 100% correct. Thank you for all that you have done to educate us about the potatoe and stach based eating, living and dieting. 2 Baby Cakes Baby Cakes 1 year ago I agree. There is so much missinformation, and everyone is an expert, that we are left to decide and figure it out alone what could be right and what could be wrong. And we pay for following the wrong experts with our health and ultimately lives. 3 Heidi Napflin Heidi Napflin 2 weeks ago Such an interesting lecture - thank you so much for sharing your amazing knowledge! ❤ Pat White Pat White 1 year ago Thank you for the great video love everything you have said and believe! 6 margaret page margaret page 1 year ago Learning everyday I listen to you Dr McDougall. Ruthias Kitchen Ruthias Kitchen 1 year ago Thanks for such inspiring information. 3 Lyna Galliara Lyna Galliara 1 year ago Returning to watching McDougall lectures after what's been a while, I remember why I found watching them so healing, not just from the physical perspective - if their conclusions are applied. I find them healing to watch because they're a source of truth and because Dr. McDougall is so inspiring in the way he fights for the truth. He's a rebel and a truth teller and I find the presence of rebels and truth tellers most comforting of all when I feel like I'm lost. To be around, be it just in thought, someone who knows what's what and who's not afraid to say it, and to be around someone I can learn from, and who reminds me just how great of a contribution one individual can make to this world, it fills me with feelings of hope. And there's so much love in his communication, love for those whose wellbeing he's tried to save - humans and animals alike - such clear constant displays of love for his family, love for his heroes, love for the planet. So much respect for this man. Wish I could even be 1% of the person he is. Thank you Dr. McDougall. 4 Chava K Chava K 12 days ago Looking forward to your talk on what happens when we too much protein. He died a few months ago of pancreatic cancer. He had just retired, was in his mid-60s, and was otherwise seemingly healthy, except for high blood pressure. He ate keto/paleo for the last about 20 years. It's so sad. I tried to give him books, argue sometimes, etc., but he was a stubborn guy who thought he knew better than his little sister (me). 3 Tori H Tori H 1 year ago You are a life saver ❤️ 2 야무치 야무치 7 months ago I'm really curious whether Dr.Mcdougall got vaccinated or not for Covid 19. Pamela Remmel Pamela Remmel 1 year ago I have a question. From what I understood it wasn’t protein that could cause complications, it was pernicious anemia. Is that more from iron deficiency or lack of B12. Can a vegan diet resolve that complication? 4 The Traveler Wonderful world The Traveler Wonderful world 1 year ago Dr. McDougall, after following your advice and eating mostly starchy whole foods, I lost over 60 pounds in 6 months. Thank you for all you do. So on the protein issue, I have a question. From 1967 -1970, there was a civil war in Nigeria , where the Nigerian government, with the help of the british government, fought and prevented the secession of the biafran people in the south of the country. During this time, a blockade was initiated against the biafrans and this led to large amounts of starvation and a condition known as kwashiorkor (a protein deficiency). Please can you throw more light on kwashiorkor. It seemed to be the only time in history (that I know of ) that this condition was recorded. Is it possible for kwashiorkor to occur in this day and age due to protein deficiency ? Or could kwashiorkor even mean something else other than protein deficiency. Thanks. 1 M85 M85 7 months ago McDougall is a legend. Real good. Thank you Dr. McDougal for all you have done with eating this way. Making affordable and every day normal. Where N is the Element for DNA, amino acids, protein. Though we see a reduction in the ratio when a cow eat plant based protetins, just a small part is really used for the Beef, other part is for microbes living in the soil … and for how long do we have the Phos. we neeeed for growing plants, if we keep going the path 🤔 time to change … Well we are using all natural kelp / sea weed (w. 74 Minerals) - no we dont harwest from the ocean, just take it on the shore, after the tide.
