Keto done right may have fairly high good fat, but it is also very high in vegetables, mostly green leafy, low glycemic, high fiber, green veggies. I eat a keto diet and I eat considerably more vegetables than the vegans I know. Most vegans eat a lot of grain. Most on keto focus on meats, fish and vegetables. I've never gotten more fiber in my life. The doc may be confusing keto with carnivore. As as far as that goes, they don't need to speculate on their conclusions about carnivore eaters, there are thousands of people following that diet, and that have done so for years with only positive outcomes. Give a ring to Dr Shaun Baker, I'm sure he'd be happy to exhale into your Aire device to have whatever gas it is that you're looking for measured. The gut biome may be critical but the role of fiber in maintaining that biome is open to review and debate. 8 Rob yN Rob yN 6 months ago (edited) Thank you, Ivor! Tim Scannell Tim Scannell 6 months ago Outstanding work 2 Susan Stewart Susan Stewart 6 months ago Ivor, the last 5 minutes about Keto diet and microbiome were a bit concerning. If I am eating in accordance with the macros in your book ‘Eat Rich Live Long”, I should always be in Keto (?) unless I purposefully eat some higher carb foods on purpose such as squash or sweet potatoes or fruit. Not sure if I am eating what is needed to maintain a good microbiome (ignoring L. Reuteri for the moment). William Davis | Super Gut | Talks at Google 18,872 viewsFeb 5, 2022 Talks at Google 1.78M subscribers William Davis discusses his book "Super Gut: A Four-Week Plan to Reprogram Your Microbiome, Restore Health, and Lose Weight", a plan to reprogram your microbiome based on research and techniques that not only gets to the root of many diseases but improves levels of oxytocin (the bonding/happy hormone), brain health and promotes anti-aging and weight loss. Over the past 50-100 years, industrialized agriculture and food, overexposure to antibiotics, as well as chemicals in our diet and environment, has dramatically altered the human microbiome, turning it into something that is almost no longer human. These disruptive changes pose silent dangers for health, increasingly ignored by a quick-fix society eager to buy into dietary fads but unaware of the turmoil within. The answer to our gut and overall health problems isn’t found in the latest version of a ketogenic diet or some new “superfood,’ reveals Dr. Davis. Instead, we desperately need to reintroduce our bodies to the microbial species that once lived in our ancestors, while pushing back the army of microbial interlopers that have taken their place. Dr. William Davis, M.D. is a preventive cardiologist and author of the groundbreaking #1 New York Times bestseller "Wheat Belly" and three other New York Times bestsellers: "Wheat Belly Cookbook", "Wheat Belly 30- Minutes (or Less!) Cookbook", and "Wheat Belly Total Health", among other titles. He is a graduate of the St. Louis University School of Medicine, with training in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, and advanced training in angioplasty at the Case Western Reserve University Hospitals where he also served as Director of the Cardiovascular Fellowship and Assistant Professor of Medicine. We are graduating from the age of probiotics and prebiotics to a time in which we are able to adopt exciting new strategies that give us enormous control over the aging process. I will talk about the power of cultivating the bacterial species, Lactobacillus reuteri, to take advantage of its ability to smooth skin and reduce wrinkles, accelerate healing, preserve bone density, restore youthful muscle and strength, increase libido, and enhance empathy. I will discuss how bowel flora has gone haywire in many people, populating parts of the gastrointestinal tract where they don’t belong and contributing to the aging process and underlying many health conditions. I will then discuss how to assess this situation, then correct it, with potential to restore and maintain many aspects of youthfulness and health. I'm excited to see your work advancing so well! 37 Bambina336 Bambina336 9 months ago I grew up on a farm and we always made our own yogurt. The process is very simple, at least the way we did it. Cook the milk (this is for fresh milk), let it cool to where it is lukewarm, mix in 1-2 tablespoons of plain, full fat yogurt, mix it well. Wrap that whole bowl in a towel and leave it overnight in a place where its not too cold(room temperature). My mom preps all this in the evening and leaves it next to a stove. In the morning we have yogurt. It can last 2 weeks to a month in a fridge and the longer it sits the thicker it becomes, like a Greek yogurt but without all that sugar they put in. You can also take that yogurt and put it in a cotton bag to drain overnight and you'll have a basic, very plain cream cheese to which you can add some flavors. I just put some salt and use a little bit milk to make it to my desired texture. I suppose the stuff he's talking about could be added here to make it even healthier. 40 Jami Carpenter Jami Carpenter 9 months ago Thank you 🙏! Great information AND ENTERTAINING! Wow William Davis - Wheat: The UNhealthy Whole Grain Fundraiser 657,738 viewsNov 21, 2012 5.8K TheIHMC 72.8K subscribers The wheat of today is not the wheat of our mothers or grandmothers. Modern wheat is the product of genetic manipulations that have transformed its properties. Modern wheat is now a 2-foot tall, high-yield semi-dwarf strain, different in both appearance and multiple biochemical features from traditional wheat. Introduction of this new strain of wheat was associated with the appearance of a long list of health problems, along with weight gain and diabetes. According to Dr. Davis, saying goodbye to all things wheat provides outsized and unexpected health benefits, from weight loss, to relief from acid reflux and bowel urgency, to reversal of diabetes, migraine headaches, and learning disabilities in children. Dr. William Davis is author of the #1 New york Times bestselling book, Wheat Belly: Lose the wheat, lose the weight and find your path back to health (Rodale, 2011), now debuting internationally in over ten foreign languages. Wheat belly has helped spark a nationwide reconsideration of the conventional advice to "eat more healthy whole grains." Formerly an interventional cardiologist, he now confines his practice to prevention and reversal of coronary disease in his practice in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Davis is a graduate of the St. Louis University School of Medicine, followed by training in internal medicine and cardiology at the Ohio State University Hospitals, and training in interventional cardiology at the Case--Western Reserve Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. He is also founder of the online heart disease prevention educational program, Track your Plaque. Featured playlist 15 videos 2012 Evening Lectures TheIHMC 830 Comments rongmaw lin Add a comment... Lindsay Taylor Lindsay Taylor 10 months ago I took a food sensitivity test and came back mildly sensitive to wheat, barley, rye. Amongst other things like chicken/eggs/pineapple/bell pepper/milk/chicken. I cut all of these foods out. My asthma got better, back pain and toe pain went away. I had a slip up at a family party and ate desserts packed with grains, sugar and eggs. The next day I needed my inhaler. I started craving sugar so bad I bought another dessert a few days later…the next day I needed my inhaler again and my back pain and toe pain came back severely. It’s so crazy. I cut out all grains again, fasted and ate only meat/veggies, pain gone and asthma back under control within 3 days. I don’t think it’s a coincidence. 21 Michael DK Michael DK 5 years ago After seeing massive benefits from cutting out wheat from my food, I advised my now 64 year old mother to do the same. No more gluten. She had M.E. (muscle desease), went to the toilet 3-4x a day, was pretty much physically unable to do much at all. Depressed, especially in the morning, and was easy to upset. After being without gluten for 2 years now she's finished building her first house by herself. Yes, cement, stones, tiles, building a kitchen from scratch...everything. She has the physical energy of a 40-year old. No more stomach problems, no more depression, lots of life. I thought, I will have this slice of pizza and then go back to my wheat/ bread free way of living. WRONG! Even knowing and understanding what is happening, it has been so hard to get back off the bread. I tell people all the time that it is addictive. I never knew about the different proteins and such that make it so, I just knew that it was. I am working harder to get back off of it, but I really wish there was a rehab center for this particular addiction. Whole wheat was pushed SUPER hard as the "better" kind of bread, but it has nothing to do with the glycemic index, etc, as we've seen. It's about the slightly higher fiber content, which supposedly helps clean your colon. Things that are "fat free" (but full of carbs), "low carb" (but full of salt), "high fiber" (but a diabetic nightmare) and so on. In general, if it needs marketing, you should be suspicious. 14 LILLIAN PORTER LILLIAN PORTER 8 years ago He points out, in the first pages of his book, that the glycemic index of wheat is 72, while the glycemic index of sugar is 59. While sugar is empty calories, wheat is worse. I wondered why so many people report celiac disease these days, when it was considered a rarity when I was young. I wondered why one vegetarian friend had a child with diabetes AND rheumatoid while another vegetarian friend, a runner, had a diastolic BP of 140. Dr. Atkins was reporting on the ballooning of diabetes , even in juveniles, since the FDA came out with their food pyramid, (the broadest part made up of carbs) in the 1970's. The food pyramid, by the way, was supposed to have been developed by two lawyers! Dr. Atkins, fat or not, reversed diabetes and metabolic syndrome in his patients. At 62 years old after decades of chronic back and neck pain, years of peripheral neuropathy in hands and feet, deteriorating eyesight, etc, I suddenly lost 50 lbs in under 6 months and had horrible irritable bowel problems for the first time in my life. The more I ate to keep my weight up, the faster I lost weight and the worse my stomach problems got. Went to my doc who sent me for every test under the sun. Pretty sure he was afraid I had cancer. Before the tests, I talked to a coworker who had diabetes in his family. He suggested I get a $20 glucose monitor, so I did. It took about 3 days to figure out that my sugars were spiking after every meal. What was I eating? Junk. White bread, bagels, pizza, soda, potato and corn chips, ice cream, and so on. Did a little reading online found out what I should be eating. Started shopping around the outside isles of the market. Fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, fish, more fish, etc. No white or wheat bread. Some whole grain breads, but no more. No processed foods, nothing that comes in a box. So after the tests, there was nothing indicating disease because I figured out what was wrong just weeks earlier and easily fixed it. THIS DIET ISN'T RIGHT FOR EVERYBODY. I DO NOT HAVE DIABETES. I AM NOT QUALIFIED TO GIVE MEDICAL ADVICE. THIS IS JUST MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. I WAS (AM) HYPERGLYCEMIC, BUT AM ABLE TO CONTROL IT THROUGH DIET. I feel great. I see better, feel better, very rarely get headaches (used to have them daily and gobbled ibuprofen like M&Ms) have far less back, neck and joint pain (still some, vertebrae don't grow back after all) but the neuropathy is nearly gone and the pain I do have lasts for minutes to hours, not days, weeks, months or even years like it used to. So now, my only problem is, I can't gain weight. If I force myself to eat when I'm not hungry, I can get up to 150-155, but it quickly falls off and settles down at precisely 146. Not a bad problem to have I guess. I eat lots of eggs, full fat dairy and meats, etc. But no food comes into my house or into my mouth if wheat is anywhere in the ingredients. I can eat raw sugar (not cups of it, but a reasonable amount, like a sweet tea, even creme brulee) without a big sugar spike. But if I take just a couple bites of white bread, I will be looking for the bathroom in 20 minutes and feel like garbage for 2 days. Stupidly ate 2 bites of a hotdog bun a couple days ago and am just feeling right again now. That's all it takes to tip my metabolism. If I had seen the info on this page before I had a problem, I would not have believed it. Now I believe it can't be stated strongly enough. What an eye opener. The food industry is killing us. We make enough wheat to feed 11 billion people. There are 8 billion people on earth. Strikes me there is enough wheat produced to make humans extinct. 11 Keith Muller Keith Muller 8 months ago Simply no wheat ... starches and added sugar and you are home and dry .....I have lost over 50 lb blood pressure perfect ... cholesterol HDL great now ... eat one great meal a day ....I never feel hungry ... loads of good fats, protein and vegs and fruit and nuts.. Wheat was first eaten in bulk about 24,000 year ago in the Nubia area, and this population slowly expanded gathering wild wheat up through Israel, finally reaching Southern Turkey about 15,000 years ago. This population was the first one to live sedentary lives, and they bumped into another popualtion in Turkey, and between the two of them they started agriculture with domesticated animals and planting cereal crops. 1 Marimilitarybrat Marimilitarybrat 2 years ago Thank you, I really enjoyed this presentation and will be making some serious changes in my diet as a result. FYI, for anyone concerned with the inflammatory effect of grain products you may be interested to know that our immunizations have two forms of aluminum and mercury in the form of thimerosal as adjuvants. Each of these substances are neurotoxins. Pharmaceutical companies stirred these substancesq into the broth to cause an inflammatory response at the time of immunization. The purpose of creating an inflammatory response is their belief that it provides a greater immunity from the viral fragments in the immunization. The amount of virus present in each immunization can differ a great deal. The basis or result of auto immune disorders is inflammation. The Human body consists of a Matrix or combination of systems that are well able to handle moderation of low toxin consumables. The Two most critical issues which lead to illness from consuming are your general controllable physical condition and overall diet. The immune, cardiovascular, and nervous systems function to handle foods like Whole Grains if you do not exceed recommended daily amounts, AND you are getting sufficient body movement. Exercise is not even needed, but if you are fairly active your systems will be at optimal functioning levels to keep you healthy. Davis brings up the chemistry of the body acting out its chemical characteristics yes, but in a single plain or dimension. The human body has an intertwined or matrix of properties that circumvent toxin levels. If the levels get very high then yes he is only right then, but a normal diet of breads or any slightly toxic foods is easily handled by a healthy system. A healthy body is built to handle many variances in non favorable consumables and has been subjected to this need for eons. The Key is moderation and body condition, exercise is good if you are an office worker but for most people simple activity such as walking, cleaning house, labor and other cardio movement to rev up the heart daily is all it takes. The problems in health seem to par with timing of illness like diabetes and higher wheat consumption. But the truth is we entered the electronic age in the 1940's and by the 1980's people were in front of a TV, Gaming program, or Computer which has led to a much poorer overall health condition worldwide. The other factor combined with that is today people simply consume to much. I am a 61 year old, Graduate, Human biology, Molecular biology, farmer, and healthy moderate. The understanding of how our bodies work is not cut and dry on a simple plain program as Davis outlines. We are tougher than most know especially when we do continue to develop our bodies and minds with wise non excessive diets. 5 Leonard Winokur Leonard Winokur 2 years ago (edited) "Wheat is in the Bible". I have trouble digesting everything from meat to vegetables because I believe my gut was severly damaged. I do not absorb nutrients because I lost a lot of muscle mass in my weight loss even though I did resistance training and 25-30% of my diet was protein, good protein, rib eyes, eggs and whey protein. I am 250 lbs but still 40% body fat. I was 14% body fat in the mid 80s when they stated doing those tests. Better late than never. But I'm not out of the woods yet. I still have 80 pounds of fat to lose and at least 10-15 pounds of muscle to gain. Fasting is very difficult because I'm so insulin resistant. My sleep is highly disturbed the last 5 years, but I slept like a baby before that. But my A1c is down to 5.0 from 5.7 and I'm hoping for more improvement though I am stalled in my weight loss. I do though, have a question regarding all of this. I recall coming across an article referenced by some studies; presented in a nutritional supplement flyer years ago which stated this comment: That the reason gluten is such a problem nowadays in it's adverse physiological effects is that when they started genetically modifying wheat in the early 70's and through subsequent decades , permeating conventional grain farming practice; the gluten content of the GMO grain was 4 to 500% higher than the previously grown species of wheat. Hence, the aggravating effects of this bastardized protein began to multiply with far greater intensity. It seemed to make sense to me, being a child and teen in the 60's and 70's; as I could eat even white bread in huge quantities and never suffer any adverse effects, weight gain, etc. Does that explanation fit any science you have come across? I'm now 61 yrs old, gained 20 lbs over the last 18 months, and despite eating mostly 1 meal a day, sometimes 2 small meals, exercising regularly, supplementing with high quality vitamins and minerals, etc. etc., I can't lose a frickin' pound and I have chronic low back and general joint pain throughout my body! My naturopathic doctor told me dairy was one of the allergy foods and I should avoid it at all costs whilst trying to heal my gut 5 Kristin Lind Kristin Lind 4 months ago Colostrum is compelling and I recently started the Ancestral product, but I have found that taking probiotics (including megaspore products) has exacerbated my problems, and then learned that adding more bacteria to the bacterial overgrowth of SIBO is a BAD idea. So it doesn't seem that a one size fits all fix for these complex issues is not a practical, effective or even safe approach. 8 Alisa Cole Alisa Cole 4 months ago Thank you so much! I am type 1 diabetic and have Hashimotos, so know at one point I most likely had leaky gut, even though I thought at the time I ate a fairly clean diet. Since diagnosis (age 57) I have further eliminated foods that could be inflammatory. I recently did a food sensitivity/intolerance panel and made further changes. Thankfully I do not experience bloating, gas, GI discomfort yet, candida was moderate on this last test ( weeks ago) and also with Meridian test done 5 years ago. It appears no matter what I have done with changes in my diet, the candida continues. I don’t think I have ever taken colostrum, maybe once in last 10 years, but, have several times given to my Boxer dogs when they were sick. I have taken the megasporebiotic ( through naturopathic chiropractor) before but not the prebiotics. So will order these as well. My dogs on the other hand, get pre and probiotics daily! Question though - recent food intolerance test showed milk products as moderate. Would colostrum be considered inflammatory for me? My whole goal in taking the test was to try and eliminate as much inflammation as possible so I don’t experience more disease. 1 Natural Health Resources · Loretta Fields Loretta Fields 4 months ago I have never tried this product!! Modern wheat is the product of genetics manipulations that have transformed its properties. Modern wheat is now a 2-foot tall, high-yield semi-dwarf strain, different in both appearance and multiple biochemical features from traditional wheat. Introduction of this new strain of wheat was associated with the appearance of a long list of health problems, along with weight gain and diabetes. Saying goodbye to all things wheat provides outsized and unexpected health benefits, from weight loss, to relief from acid reflux and bowel urgency, to reversal of diabetes, migraine headaches, and learning disabilities in children. Dr. William Davis is author of the #1 New York Times Bestselling book, Wheat Belly: Lose the wheat, lose the weight and find your path back to health (Rodale, 2011), now debuting internationally in over 19 foreign languages. The information is out there, just google Keto Recipes (low carb - my personal favorite) or Paleo or Ancestrial Food recipes. We‘re talking about beautiful cassoroles with egg, vegetables, cream, cheese, meat. Mixed Salads (as many diff. colorful fresh crunchy veggies) with tuna or chicken and/or fresh crumbled bacon and some parmesan cheese. Or like Dr. Davis said there are so many recipes out there with grain free bread (using almond or coconut flours) and pizza dough using other alternatives. There‘s the Chaffle (cheese & egg waffle) you can make savory or sweet. And always include lots if fresh veggies raw and cooked in all of your meals!! The possibilities are endless my dears! Just drop all of the sugar and processed foods, easy peasy! Don‘t forget sugar drinks and fruit juices are all full of fructose and sucrose! Limited berries & granny smith apples allowed. Dark chocolate (no sugar) is also very healthy. Drink lots of purified still mineral water and green tea everyday. And teach your kids what real food is!
