The best YouTube podcast I’ve ever listened to. As someone who did a swing through paleo>keto> then carnivore after breaking my back, damaging my shoulder and having ruptured appendix I now think I know why I ended up with lung cancer ( I’m a non smoker) 24 months later. I’m fine now 6 months post lung surgery and have gone full circle to vegan. Thank you Rich Roll.

This was fantastic. I'm on a health journey, MS 22 years, dysbiosis in the past, vegan almost 3 years. Marked improvements! I notice that when I stick with a variety of whole foods I feel the best. Processed vegan foods and recreating old comfort foods don't really work for me.
Thank you both for a fantastic podcast. I wish I could get my family on board. But I also know they have to have there oen journey and I will continue mine. It's life draining to try and get people to change. So I will just walk the walk. Which by the way I couldn't do 4 years ago. Now I can hike, bike, jog, kayak and live a more fulfilled life. Still have a ways to go but I'm not where I was. Thank you!! Stay safe🥰 blessings

WOW, WOW & WOW....
1) Every person who wants optimum health should listen. Food is medicine & the gut is the gateway.
2) Dr B is not only articulate but has wisdom beyond his years in describing how we can benefit from a balanced microbiome. He's brilliant & humble in sharing his knowledge of how we can achieve it from infancy to adults.
3) Rich Roll is the most diverse interviewer, thought provoking & best listener(gives his guests plenty of time to answer his well thought out questions.... uninterrupted....refreshing!)
Thanks for another enlightening & life changing segment!

Hi Rich, this is Joey from Plant Based Dads YouTube show. I listen to you every week and this was by far one of my favorite podcasts that you have done in all the years. I actually listened to it on my iPhone while running like I always do, but wanted to leave a comment here and tell you how captivating Dr Will was on the show. I have heard your guests talk about this issue before, so I am very familiar with everything you have taught us with your many past guest, but this interview was above all of that. So amazing. Thanks for continuing to educate us.

His skin is telling me all I need to know about his gut microbiome 😯 I adopted a WFPB lifestyle from the beginning of the year and flu and headaches are nothing but a memory. I used to be sick almost every week and I got tired of it and made a significant change. My energy levels are always on point and I'm always looking forward to my fueling times coz I now eat delicious nutrient dense foods that are filling. I'm not looking back. Thanks Rich and Dr. B, you're both awesome! 🙂🌱

As a permaculture farmsteader, the concept of BIODIVERSITY in our microbiome is just so beautiful♥ As above, so below, as within, so without. In every aspect of our lives, the more diversity, the more resilient, energetic, intelligent and compassionate we are! Like the Gaia Principle!! We're all part of one organism!

The things we call weeds are the food and medicinal plants that our ancestors brought here and planted everywhere they existed.
The main reason we only plant and eat certain plants is for groceries. For harvesting, transportation, handling, storage, and display.
Foraging is a really good way to get more plants in your diet.

Bought the book and so easy to follow. I've crohns and have been on whole plant based diet for 14 months. It's an ongoing project but I've been med free. This book gave me such a shot in the arm to keep to my healing journey. So jealous of people who have access to such quality doctors. Ireland it's all drugs drugs drugs. No easy journey. Would implore anyone to view more podcasts on Dr B. If anyone has further details on WFPB diets combating IBD I would be most grateful. Big shout to Mr Roll and Dr B on a great discussion. Means the world to many people who are fighting for their health and indeed, their lives even.

My sister-in-law has a number of autoimmune diseases including Hashimoto's and lupus. She also has Barret's esophagus and chronic constipation. She has been following the paleo diet for 8 years. What blows me away is that, according to her own words, her gastroenterologist never discusses diet with her. She thinks I'm nuts for following a vegan, whole food plant based lifestyle.

Such a great conversation. I have so many questions! One is about seasonal foods. You mention the importance of diversity but in certain climates, like where I am in Northern Europe, diversity in a large section of the year is reduced (because of the cooler climate). That was the motivation to relying (a long time ago) on animal products because, before transportation and cheap oil, it was easier to keep an animal than it was to process all foods grown during the warmer season so there was sufficient food. I'm a land worker and the bets on animals surviving, especially during changing climate, are higher than crops. This season we lost 800 squash plants in a storm. Luckily, we live in a culture where we can rely on imports and others. I'd love your guys thoughts. Do you think there's absolutely no place for including eggs, cheese, fish, chicken, meat...etc? Perhaps the American model is slightly different to here in the UK. Thanks!!

Thank you for such quality content! When I was diagnosed with UC about 15 years ago (& was flaring, often) I asked my Dr. (at the time) what I could do to mitigate flaring up. Could I change my diet? He shrugged and said, "meh, you can try, but there's no evidence that doing so will help." Since then, I've gone gluten & dairy free. I'm mostly plant based...when I stopped eating dairy, I noticed the most significant difference. Better gut and I've gotten sick WAY LESS. I rarely take med's, now. It's all about the diet. Unfortunately, so many have a vested, monetary interest in keeping us sick & on meds. To them, I give all the middle fingers!!! 😁

Having lived in one of the "Blue Zones" nearing a half a century ago...the one thing I noticed about the elderly natives besides their "age" was their stamina/strength/sexual prowess...they had elders nearing hundred y/o (were stronger than me in my early 20's)..long story short...their eating of wild plants, bugs, feral animals, fresh fruit/flowers w/pollen,freshly caught seafood, seaweeds, turtle eggs & fermented foods and they consumed and inordinate amount of homebrewed alcohol which was strange. Sadly It is all gone now. Introduction of processed foods.

Not sure if there is a connection between my eating choices and lack of symptoms. Since then I've had both vaccine shots. Doing well. Thank you for this. So educational and it's really helped me in my journey towards veganism. I accidentally started watching these videos on the benefits of a plant based diet and suddenly stopped eating meat/fish/dairy. Lots 4 pounds in less than a week but feel quite energetic and have been sleeping better. I've weaned off thyroxine a year ago because it was making me ill and no matter how much I reduced food consumption, I was still putting on an obscene amount of weight. I worry about my thyroid but am resolute on completely reversing my thyroid problem, hypertension, acne, arthritis, insomnia and cognitive impairment (if that's what it's called). It's been a week and I feel like I've taken a magic pill. I'm not a vegan and never started out to become one but boy! 8 day vegan by accident has made me feel brand new. Thank you.

I think I still have my Mother's book on the Hunza. I'm over 70, and she, as a nurse, was way ahead of the times. Grew up on a farm. My favorite foods are "weeds". Horses really need a variety. Their intestine needs a huge variety of plants. I love nettles (springtime greens, summer and fall seeds), and dandelions. Dock, self-heal, cleavers (ornery little plants), clovers, vetch, purslane, etc. Adding these helps us find that diversity. Plus many others. Thanks for a really healthy conversation.
Dr. Zach Bush is the guy who started me on regenerative ag path learning about tight junctions which are destroyed by glyphosate (roundup). Listening to him is my favorite way to spend my time. These 2 guys could blow up a conversation.

Very insightful podcast. I have subscribed to a Lectin free diet since 2017 and have benefited greatly. I lost 65 lbs., and no longer suffer with arthritis and fibromyalgia. I can now introduce foods with Lectins with little or no issues.
Dr. Gundry has researched for 20 years on thousands of patients so I am not sure why Dr. B is so opposed to his scientific research since he is a scientist, as well.
Dr. G, also promotes a diverse plant based diet over eating animal protein and acknowledges the Blue Zones and their diet.
I think it’s important for everyone to find the balance that works for them and understand how to cook those foods or prepare them to be less inflammatory in their body.
I love Dr. B’s passion and perseverance to help others! Keep up the great work.

Great data
One thing that I do question: when asked about the integrity of health of the Hudza who were being portrayed as a wonderful example of using variety of fiber rich foods in their diets I expected some kind of positive response but heard “They have their challenges-not living in the US with the healthcare system “...
Cognitive dissonance here...

I'm a Pathologist, so I will help Dr. Bulsiewicz with the description of the immune component of the gut. As he said, the gut mucosa is lined by an epithelial layer. Directily under this layer is the lamina propria which is a loose connective tissue containing Glands, blood vessels and lots of immune cells such as lymphocytes and macrophages with smaller numbers of eosinophils. Neutrophils aren't usually present unless there is active Inflammation occurring. Throughout the mucosa of colon and small intestine, one will usually find a number of small, reactive lymphoid Aggregates which are similar to a tiny lymph node, but they are lacking a capsule like a true lymph node and those are usually found in the submucosa. I hope this helps.

I’d bought your book from another podcast. Really having a hard time with being hospitalized twice in 6 months bleeding, patched up gut, building another unit onto my home, taking Contractor’s to court, auto accident, loosing my job and realizing that I wasn’t as young as I thought. I’m in my second year of dealing with living with the complications of trauma, stress, anxiety, leaky gut and AGE! So listening to you today awakened my memory. I ran to my nightstand, brought it to the type of the file. It’s now my # one book to read.
Thanks for your good work.

I am new in learning about this and listening to Dr. B. Thank you! I loved his explanation of the gut not having inflammation, but "sloppy digestion' caused by a damaged gut.
I recently heard him talk about this in another video, and he mentioned go low and slow, or slow and low, and ease into it.
Also, the hydration of water. 2x2x2x2. 2 glasses of water when you get up first, before your coffee, and two glasses of water with each meal. Simple! I'm just starting this and a plant-based, low-fat diet.
I'm changing and hope to get better: Hope I can help others, if they see good results in me.

I am a steadfast supporter of this informative channel; it was recommended to me some time ago by my best friend, stuck in Edinbourgh during Covid 19 and bravo. I still feel that I don't belong here in some measure; vegan, yes, check all the boxes but there is a powerful tradition that I grew up with; one example might be Sting in Chile also with Peter Gabriel risking their lives to protest murderous regimes backed by the US; there are other examples; Vanessa Redgrave who in the wake of the death of her daughter still went to Bosnia in the wake of the atrocities committed during the internecine ugliness that destroy the former Yugoslavia. Yes I am deeply impressed by the dedication and bravery of Navy Seals; my father was a freedom fighter against the Nazis in his time and his passport upon immigrating to Canada showed a haunted man. My mother was a holocaust survivor; wicked sense of humour; self-pity not in her lexicon. On behalf of all those veterans who return broken and do not get mentioned, I testify. And first world problems MUST be put into context -- I'm sorry I write the same thing watching an interview in France, England, Italy Brazil, Mumbai .... please give some thought to the bigger picture. The silos you talk about exist among the privileged; the lost and forgotten have no such vocabulary.

Dr. Will Bulsiewicz (gastroenterologist, nutritionist, New York Times-bestselling author of Fiber Fueled and The Fiber Fueled Cookbook) stops by to break down gut health and practical steps we can take to heal our guts. He unpacks gluten, food sensitivities, and fiber’s role in gut health. He explains the significance of microbiomes, challenges highly restrictive diets, and discusses why bowel movements directly inform gut health. Mayim and Dr. B consider the gut’s affect on mood, why digestive issues can still manifest even with proper nutrition, and the evidence-based benefits of a plant-based diet. They discuss the ways food intolerances can lead to disordered eating and how to fix those intolerances, the mental health impact of dietary challenges, and empowering oneself with information about one’s specific dietary needs.

I’m the living prove that what’s said today by Dr. B here is TRUE. As a colon cancer survivor myself I can say (along with my own GP doc) that my cancer came after the most stressed days of my life, when anxiety was at its top ever level, after my brother’s sudden suicide, an absorbing stressed working days, burnt out syndrom and disordered junkie food. Cancer was the worst ring alarm my body could ever had sent me. Learning to deal with grief, stress and anxiety by mindful meditation along with a drastic diet change helped chemo a lot! Thank you for this episode! 👍🏼😍

As someone who was diagnosed with a brain tumour at 39 even though I ate a fantastic organic vegetarian diet, exercised loads and was extremely careful about what I put in on or around my body I can also say that it was stress that I think triggered the tumour. Making and keeping boundaries has become part of my recovery. Unfortunately society doesn’t encourage this in girls growing up. Thanks for an enlightening conversation 🙌🏻

I LOVE that Dr. B. lobbied for a subsidy for foods high in fiber. I agree the socioeconomic factor is indispensable in creating the behavioral change required fir a healthier society. "You're never going to get people to buy this food if it's unaffordable."

Wonderful episode. This really resonated with me, because I am a cancer survivor. I was diagnosed at 36 years old with stage 3 bilateral breast cancer. Darkest time of my life. I was seemingly healthy--ate well, exercised, checked all the boxes, but still became very ill. It was found to be genetic, but at the time I was working crazy hours, had little sleep, was constantly stressed, in a challenging relationship, was the go-to person for all friends, family, and colleagues. I strongly believe all of these things created a perfect storm of events that created an environment inside my body for the cancer to grow and travel. Luckily, my medical team was able to save my life, and now at 43 years old, I have changed my entire mindset about what success and health look like. I was already on my way to becoming entirely plant-based, and have been for the past 6 years. It works for me, along with therapy, daily yoga, meditation, walks in nature, setting (and sticking to) boundaries, and hydration! Oh, and as someone whose bowels were all screwed up during cancer treatment, a complete healthy movement is golden!💛

I’m 33, my teens, my 20s were spent seeking alternative methods of healing after being scoffed at by the rheumatologists, gastroenterologists and allergists. I have an autoimmune disease and gut issues. Hearing that the science had not caught up technology-wise in time to address my issues was so validating!!!!! And I’m so glad there have been advances. This podcast was the final step I needed to go whole-food plant based. Also making this entirely possible is my VITAMIX because it makes the most delicious smoothies/juice and more. I have finally figured out that crushing a giant kale smoothie (fruit, kale, anything else I put in) is like the best thing ever for my gut. I’m eating half a bushel of kale a day now. Not sure how I could handle eating all that fiber otherwise lol. I’m super stoked that increasing fiber can reduce my inflammation through short chain fatty acid production. Now that I understand the science behind fiber and the probability that it can alleviate my inflammation I’m all in.

I was diagnosed with IBD (they didn't know if it was Ulcerative Colitis or Crohns), but what it actually was, was Vitamin C toxicity. I was experiencing chronic and consistent diarrhea...like I couldn't keep anything in me, I was going all day long. Because I had been living and working on a ship, everyone assumed my diet hadn't changed...but, we had been chartered out to FEMA and they loaded us up wiht palets of bottled water and "Emergen-C" packets. I had no idea that drinking multiple of them a day would make me ill....and again, no one did a full history to find out if there was any difference in my diet. And once I started having all day diarrhea, my thought was that clearly I need more vitamins.
A year after I stopped drinking the Vitamin C, I could tolerate very little soluble fiber per day. I had to be really, really careful. It took me years to be able to eat insoluble fiber without really monioring the amount per day. The only thing that persists now, even decades later...is I can't tolerate whole kernel corn (even popcorn) this makes me soooo sad. But any time I've tried, even a little...my gut gets super unhappy, I'm in acute paid for a day or so, and I have terrible diarrhea for those couple days.
Thankfully, I"ve mostly healed up.

This was such a great episode for me today. For someone who has struggled with bathroom issues for mostly all of my 69 years, I’m excited to read Dr B’s book. I have my own rating system for poo that I use. I note things on a wall calendar (yeah I’m that old) and good days are marked Nola (yep, Big Easy) to frowny face (nuggets). It helps me to not feel embarrassed about a natural human function.

Thank you for alluding to the need for well-designed studies AND the links between gut health and mental state. I have been diagnosed with multiple food sensitivities, hypoglycemia and leaky gut. I also have reactions to industrial chemicals. Many of the items on the food list were ones that when green conventionally, tend to have higher % of pesticide residues. I also tended to develop symptoms within 2-3 days of eating those items, I had asthma symptoms that required meds. After a couple years on a special diet, I was able (w/ MD. & ND supervision) to ween myself off all of the meds. Yet, I identified an emotional component in my flower allergies (and perhaps my dairy sensitivity) and after a year of personal detox, I suddenly had almost no hay fever.
So, I like this convo AND would like to hear more about the intersections among mental, emotional and physical health.

Our western doctors are at a loss when you walk in to their office with the complaint of not being able to eat foods that once agreed with you. They want to do every test under the sun and send you to a nutritionist who most times has never experienced the miserable situation of not feeling well, missing school and work, and having to socially step back from life. No one talks about the horrible state of our food chain.

I am exercising and very happy to know that mood is significantly improved. It is a big reason I go outside in the sun plus get the walk. The sun helps with vitamin D. I am in an area where it is sunny all day long 99% of the days. It's easy to get in a funk or get lazy and not do it for a few days or a couple weeks. That stuff adds up, taxing the mood and energy levels, plus sleep. There is a great sleep benefit for exercising, and getting vitamin D.

This is amazing!!!! I was diagnosed with gastroperisis last year after going through a divorce and it's continuously gotten worse as I struggle with the reality I'm having to start life over again! I knew my stress and anxiety had something to do with this diagnosis!!!! I can only eat eggs and popcorn and am losing so much weight that I cannot afford to lose. Everything else either makes me violently throwing up or causes severe abdominal pain and bloating that lead to constipation.
I'm going to start looking for a psychiatrist and therapist to nip this in the bud! This has given me so much hope!!!!!

Over the past few years, I have been looking at the food I eat and trying to match what might trigger a chronic neck pain. So far, I have nailed it down to higher salt items or nitrates/nitrites in foods like processed meat. The longer I go without some of these trigger foods, it seems to keep my neck in better shape. Certain OTC meds and topical ointments provide minor help with lowering the pain for a period but it rarely kills the pain completely, even in that moment. What I'm hearing in today's episode seems to gel in part with my own findings for myself.

Dr B is the best! I wish I could get my aunt in to see him. I have been plant based for 2 years and I’m reading fiber fueled now… and I have the cookbook as well. There’s something about him that just makes you trust what he says but then he backs that up with truth and data. You all did a great job with the interview. Thanks for having him on! Have you ever had John McDougal on?

I loved this episode. I suffer from Aura and Chronic migraines and am extremely over weight. The Aura migraines are food related, though my gastroenterologist and neurologist don't agree with me. I know its all in my gut. I definitely cant eat any processed food which leads me to be mostly raw vegan. I am allergic, not food sensitive, to Dairy, Soy and additives. the modern vegan processed foods like vegan cheese and ice cream don't work for me at all because they add too many additives and that wonderful vegan miracle ingredient nutritional yeast. The impossible burger is not possible for me and dairy free ice cream does not give me a break. I feel that I still cant get to the bottom of what affects me but knowing that its all in my gut (our second brain) helps narrow things.

Extreme nausea and even vomiting for no apparent reason - nothing doctor could find.

I'm curious M what you did in your situation. Like you post partum I had a lot of difficulty just processing foods. I was put on medication to speed up digestion while pregnant and the worst time I had of it was when I went on a trip with my vegan friend and I constantly stayed in the bathroom with guy pain and awful bowel movements or lack thereof. My GI made me get rid of most foods from my diet... most of them my favorites but all plant based. I've gone from 15% animal product to like 98% and it feels awful. I want to get back to eating all the things I loved before but one year later.. I still have no guidance from my medical team

Interesting. An experience here in Australia many elderly people can no longer eat wheat products. However, if they go overseas, depending on which country, they can eat wheat products. I have discovered I can not eat shop bought bread. I can eat home made bread. My discovery after some research was that it was not the wheat, gluten that was the problem but the preservatives added to products that give products longer shelf life for shops.

I have SOOO many thoughts, comments and questions!!!! But since I’m typing this first comment at the very end, I’ll address the “studies” definition. Mayim, I 💯agree with you on controlled studies. But I’m also open to “uncontrolled” studies to facilitate the beginnings of observations and correlations. I’m a programmer with an Agile mindset, and it seems to me that we can make progress more quickly with repeated rounds of studies - repeated with refinement to be specific. If we have a population of data , let’s start with that and see what variables need to be included and what starts to stand out. Waiting for perfect data, while it has a place, is not efficient. I’m not saying publish these iterations of studies, but start with available data. ALL data can be useful.
Fantastic discussion!!!! It just got really interesting when it ended! 🤩

I love Dr. B. And Mayim...however I felt like the interview was too cut and disconnected. So many commercials and when you come back it didn't feel seemless. Great conversation! I am wondering if you have considered talking with a DO. I am sure I do not have to tell you tbat Osteopathic medicine is a unique form of American medical care that was developed in 1874 by frontier doctor Andrew Taylor Still. But so many people do not understand this approach to healthcare. Dr. Still was dissatisfied with the effectiveness of 19th century medicine. He believed that many of the medications of his day were useless or even harmful. (Sound familiar?) Dr. Still was one of the first in his time to study the attributes of good health so that he could better understand the process of disease. I believe it is wonderful that we are seeing more and more DOs, but again many do not understand, and the mainstream medical practitioners can be unkind.

But, and I am sure this is because I am super raw from it right now, your "silly" comment about smoking to make the point about research studies sort of stung.
My brother just passed Monday after 35 days post diagnosis of small cell lung cancer....44 yr old. Yes he smoked. He also suffered mentally for years, I believe. But he was one of those people who thought he could be the 80 yr old you drank and smoked...that it could never get him.

We do not have enough energy to continuously pump blood using heart muscles. What does not make sense is the orientation of the heart muscle fibers and the lack of any physical support inside the heart for contraction, absence of nerves and lactic acid buildup in the muscles.
The gravity force causes increased atmospheric air pressure resulting in increased temperature and reduced distance between chemical elements. Chemical reactions in the lungs cause the blood to compress by changing the conformations of the proteins making up the red and white blood cells. Blood expands in the left side of the heart causing elongation of the heart followed by closing and opening the proper valves, then recoiling and snapping back of the heart muscles/elastic fibers pushes the blood out of the heart.
Since the blood expansion is in both directions, combination of blood vessels branching, diameters and the heart valves directs the blood in one direction and prevent backflow, like Diodes, heart works like a Capacitor and arteries, veins and capillaries work like Solenoid, neurons, nodes and glands work like Transistors and ICs to regulate the resonance frequencies of all the biological cycles. Diseases and organ failures happen when these cycles go out of sync with each other by changes in their frequency.
It is possible that SA and RA nodes trigger a gradual and positively progressive recoiling of the heart muscle fibers by stimulating some of the fibers to cause a chain reaction and snap back.
Diaphragm does not function as a mechanical pump, it is the mechanism to increase the space available for lungs to expand, like the Carburetor intake valve which changes the air volume and manifold pressure and the power output.
The concept of pumping by fill and release is seen in every biological system we have, like filling and releasing air in the lungs, blood in the heart, urine in the bladder, food in the digestive system, fetus in the uterus, sperm in the testicles and all the nodes and glands in the body.
This means that placenta is a temporary heart and not lungs.
Also it is important to remember that the only gas forming bubbles in the decompressed blood is Nitrogen and no O2 or CO2.
I also believe all the bacterias and infections in or on our body are our own genetic materials encapsulated in lipid based proteins, They are the cell's nucleus which experienced interruption at some stage of their cell cycle, so they could not be recycled or recombined with other white blood cells to form a complete cell. Simply the white blood cells are our own cells in different stages of their cell cycle. White blood cells are released in and collected from the capillaries, in many cases neurons regulate this process. WBCs manifest as pus, infection and inflammation and if they contain encapsulated genetic materials, we call that bacterial or viral infection.

Wealth grew in the 50s and 60s, not in the 70s. The 70s saw runaway inflation, job loss, cities crashing, a major energy crisis, etc. Both my parents had to work full time to help me pay for college. In the 70s. Please don’t lump the 70s in with the previous two decades. Do your homework on a topic before making statements about what happened before you were born.

Is your gut slowly killing you? Find out why! Dr. B's episode was the MOST downloaded in 2020 and he comes back today for round two!
In this episode, Dr. B digs deep into how integral our gut microbiome is. Our gut health, as backed by science, affects our mood, our health, our energy, and how we connect with the people around us. Also, exercise and proper food intake are not enough to sustain a healthy lifestyle, you need to put your bowels in the right rhythm too!
Dr. Will Bulsiewicz (@theguthealthmd), MD MSCI, (a.k.a. Dr. B) is a board certified gastroenterologist and gut health expert. Every day, he helps patients and members of his #plantfed community bounce back from restrictive and over-hyped diets, and into a whole new way of living and eating that produces the results they really want… permanently.

Is there a way to ask Dr. B if a prior eating disorder(anorexia /restriction) can cause dysbiosis and can it be reversed after full recovery?

SUMMARY
"A bold new plant-based plan that challenges popular keto and paleo diets, from an award-winning gastroenterologist. The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or "Dr. B," illuminates in this groundbreaking book, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that eliminations are in fact hazardous to our health. What studies clearly now show--and what Dr. B preaches with his patients--is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases. And the scientifically proven way to fuel our guts is with dietary fiber from an abundant variety of colorful plants. Forget about the fiber your grandmother used to take--the cutting-edge science on fiber is incredibly exciting. As Dr. B explains, fiber energizes our gut microbes to create powerhouse postbiotics called short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) that are essential to our health. SCFAs are scientifically proven to promote weight loss, repair leaky gut, strengthen the microbiome, optimize the immune system, reduce food sensitivities, lower cholesterol, reverse type 2 diabetes, improve brain function, and even prevent cancer. Restrictive fad diets starve the gut of the critical fiber we need, weaken the microbes, and make our system vulnerable. As a former junk-food junkie, Dr. B knows firsthand the power of fiber to dramatically transform our health. The good news is that our guts can be trained. Fiber-rich, real foods--with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, nuts, and legumes--start working quickly and maintain your long-term health, promote weight loss, and allow you to thrive and feel great from the inside out. With a 28-day jumpstart program with menus and more than 65 recipes, along with essential advice on food sensitivities, Fiber Fueled offers the blueprint to start turbocharging your gut for lifelong health today"--

We all know fiber is good for us, but did you also know that it can help with your mental health? In this week’s blog and podcast, I speak with GI specialist and epidemiologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz about how a high-fiber diet can help boost mental and brain health, heal food sensitivities and reduce inflammation in the brain and body!
In his amazing new book, Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome, Dr. B notes how even though he was very successful as a medical doctor, his processed food diet was making him miserable, tired and anxious. When he met his wife, he began to understand how real, healthy whole foods could transform his life, which led him on the path he is on today: meeting people where they are in their journey and helping them live their best and healthiest lives.
As Dr. B points out, although the current healthcare system is really good at treating acute illnesses, it falls short when it comes to preventative medicine and chronic health issues. Indeed, as a medical doctor with multiple qualifications, he was taught little about the impact lifestyle choices such as diet and exercise could impact our mental and physical health! Thankfully, times are changing, especially as more and more research is being published on the importance of our lifestyle choices. We now know that pills and procedures are not everything; around 20% of diseases are genetic, which means 80% are related to our diet and lifestyle. This is great news! It means that our health is largely in our hands, which very empowering.

I have listened numerous of professionals talked about their food plan or diet, by far , doctor B is the one makes more sense then any of those doctors, he is not only knowledgeable in his own Gut field, he also is very compassionate person by supporting the bookstores , he is kindly suggesting that we buy the book from the book stores to support our local bookstore that really hurting by this pandemic instead of buying from Amazon Which already made more money then ever been during this pandemic .

Two of the best! But Dr. B shouldn’t need to feel he has to soft pedal the animal flesh issue.. Please always present the TMAO and inflammatory evidence and then let people decide in addition to facing the violence, suffering, and moral ethical environmental issues in animal agriculture. Animal products are only about habit or addiction. I just finished his fabulous book. now i must decide if I’m going to compromise and continue enjoying nice microbrews, wine and a lovely margarita now and then knowing that it will destroy my good bacteria. I’m Italian too. there are fabulous clean vegan Bolognese recipes! ❤️✌️🥑🌱
