I have never liked the introduction of this concert. But, now, is my first time I enjoy the beginning of this concerto. Usually, musicians play too fast the beginning, that make me feel “nervous”. But, the peaceful feeling that Perlman gives at the beginning made me fell in love. I love Perlman’s playing.

Wonderful compilation. Seamless transitions.
He plays sections slower than other soloists today allowing us to hear many nuances that are missed when played at lightening speeds. Just marvel at these interpretations. Whether playing with dark black hair, salt and peppered hair or complete grey, his talent is immense throughout the years.

An incredible performance by soloist, conductors, and orchestras. It is not very often that the violin's final arpeggio can be heard from bottom to top - but here it is clear and remarkable, not drowned out by the orchestra. For me, this was a real tear-jerker. Thank you for posting.

The tone of Maestro Perlman violin is so clear and resonant.... Invariably I lift my head and sharpen my years when the version with MTT in San Francisco comes around.... what a treat this was! A masterclass for all students working on intonation, projection and tonality...

Have a soft spot for this Concerto, It was the final piece I played HS Senior year in 2006. Also as a Detroiter had the pleasure of seeing Perlman play a few times with the DSO. So this vid gets a like!

I was just listening to another Youtube performance of this concerto with Julia Fischer as soloist. She was fantastic. I stopped it, opened up another window, and began to listen to this one. With Perlman it is even more beautiful. I think because Perlman's is like an organism ---- breathing, living, and full of sweetness and light. Most (if not all) of the others lack the, how shall I say, "best of humanity" that translates into soulfulness. It's Perlman "in there" --- from start to finish. Language is a poor substitute for what I mean, perhaps. That's why I sit silently and just ... listen, and allow the performance to wash over me.

Très belle rétrospective.
Je ne me lasse pas de l'écouter et de l'admirer.
Grand talent, le meilleur des violonistes.
Il a un grain que personne arrive à copier.
Il fait gazouiller, miauler et rugir son instrument comme aucun.
Quant à moi, il hurle comme un monstre sorti des ténèbres, mais comment fait il.
Là est toute la question.

I love this format of looking forward and looking back. I have heard Glenn Gould play the Goldberg variations at full speed in the 50s and then half speed in his later years, but Itzhak never wavered and gave us everything he has. I remember his recollection of travelling to Julliard in a cab in which he literally slid into because of the snow. That type of risk taking comes out in his music in my opinion. Cheers!

Вы гениально играете! Я начала заниматься на скрипке с 13 лет. Это уже очень поздно. Однако очень трудилась,поступила в Одесское муз.училище и на 3 году обучения играла концерт Мендельсона. Как Вы потрясающе играете! Дух захватывает! Позвольте подарить Вам стихи:

-почему люди иногда не могут выразить словами свои чувства ⁉
-потому, что наш язык беден(ну понятно, есть люди с большим уровнем словарного запаса, поэтическим даром), но почему так люди обычно говорят: "У меня нет слов", потому, что душа, это совсем иное, гораздо больше, богаче, шире и т.п.
Из этой же серии, высказывания: "Это нужно было видеть", "Это нужно было слышать" и тп.
БРАВО, БРАВО, БРАВИСИМО!!!

I always thought Perlman made playing the violin look so effortless. Just the way he holds the bow so lightly and how his fingers move up and down the fingerboard with ease. It’s really amazing to watch, I can only aspire to one day play the violin so calmly and confidently.

Absolute genius, demonstrating the phenomena we call the human brain. Marvel at how the brain of that man can remember exactly the thousands of notes, played in exactly the right sequence, for exactly the right duration and how that brain can control the fingers and hands to reproduce perfectly each note. Appreciate the orchestra doing the same. Appreciate the brain of the composer who imagined and transformed imagination into dots, lines and squiggles that others can see and whose eyes send signals to brains that replicate the music. Enjoy the sheer beauty and miracle of it all. Rejoice that we are blest with the same brain. Get excited by the many other musicians playing every kind of instrument that do the same. Marvel at the distinction between animals who rely on instinct and humans that have intellect and you soon realise what a miracle mankind really is, in every discipline to which we apply ourselves. Music it is, outstanding at that, but it's so much more. It is actually a miracle that we take for granted. Marvel at technology that enables simple, ordinary people like myself to sit at home watching and listening to things I would hardly ever be able to otherwise. we have much to be truly grateful for. Then marvel at those who are so bereft of the ability to appreciate it all and need to send a thumbs down sign, it beggars belief. Thanks for posting

gotta love mr. perlman. this is one of the most beautiful and also techincally hard pieces and he plays so amazingly both in the younger and older versions. but what astonishes me is the 1972 recording of his paganini 24 caprinces, which has literally gotta be the most difficuilt 1 hour or so of violin music anywhere any time. and i have heard many of the greats play portions of it. and honestly perlman plays it better than anyone if you combine the flawless mastery of all the technnical stuff buy yet play it with such beauty combined. i have yet to find anything that tops it. i am sure heifitz is likelyt the techinally most profeicitne of any vioolniest ever but the beauty of it isn't as high. albiet. i only wish i could go back in time and literally watch paganini himself play it. it is likely that paganni is the greatet violinest ever for all time probably

Pearlman is the best violinist I like. last year I was hospitalized . His music accompanied me and healed me. He played with his heart and soul that's why his music always moved thousands thousands of people. for many years his music accompany me to sleep, for which I thank him wholeheartedly.

One of the best videos I've ever seen. One of the four aces for this superb instrument, the violin, Perlman ( the other three, Menuhin, Oistrakh and Heifetz). The most beautiful masterpiece ever written for this instrument: Felix Mendelssohn and that 24 karat gold gem, his Violin concerto in E minor. That second movement always makes me travel in a celestial imaginary journey from which I wouldn't want to come back. It leaves me speechless every time I listen to it. GIANT MENDELSSOHN.

Saw a recent concert with a Jewish cantor and it was amazing to hear him play klezmer tunes and speak to various artists about their lives. He is a beautiful person and a great musician.

Here's "a story—perhaps true, perhaps anecdotal, but nonetheless, it has profound implications as all of us struggle with some limitations.
Many people regard Itzhak Perlman as the world's finest violinist. Perlman took up violin after contracting polio as a child. He since has barely shuffled along in his braces, clumsily swinging his caliper crutches in a monumental struggle just to get onto the concert-hall platform. An assistant carries his precious violin for him. Perlman is the only violin virtuoso who has to sit to play.
Perlman was only a few bars into a violin concerto with the N.Y. Philharmonic Orchestra when a violin string broke. He waved his bow to the conductor to stop. Perlman refused to get up and get another violin. Instead, he removed the broken string from his instrument and signaled the conductor to begin again. Perlman then played the entire concerto on the three remaining strings of his violin. Enthusiastic applause greeted him at the concerto's end. When it had finally died away, Perlman said to the hushed audience, '“You know, it is the artist’s task to find out how much music you can make with what you have left. Sometimes life is best played with what's left.”' He then handed his violin to his assistant, retrieved his crutches, and shuffled haltingly off the platform.
A profound story. My point is that limitations are many times very real. However, when we internalize the concept that God can take any limitation, difficulty, or curse and transform it into a blessing, we will experience peace and enabling power with which to bless someone else, in spite of our limitations."

Beautiful concerto and great violinist but why blend two distinct performances....?!? To me, it's non-sensical. A concert-performance is one of a king, singular, unique, not a cascade of notes that can just be dabbled with.

The first time I heard Itzhak Perlman, or even heard of his name was when he was performing a live concert at Lincoln Center in 1981 that was aired on PBS where he performed Mendelssohn's E-Minor. Superb!

Is there ever a cross over from one violin concerto to an other, or these artists so tuned in from one composer to an other, that there is no chance for a mistake, even if they play two different concertoes in the same key? I would like that to happen with Beethoven violon concerto, for there is not one which could cause an interaction!

I saw Michael Tilson Thomas @ 40 years ago when he conducted the Houston Symphony. I enjoy watching his subtle style and facial expressions, although no one can match Itzak's animated face and unequalled mastery! I was also fortunate to see the protege's master (Isaac Stern) when he toured for his 60th birthday- I am so sad that many of the younger generations were not raised with a love of Classical music and, instead, have been fed a steady stream of discordant, thumping and obscene TRASH.

All these tributes that have been done to the great FELIX over the year by genious performances like the Itzzy, the pinky, ida, isaac, femmy, shlomo and sOOO many others never cease to amaze and move me when i hear this concerto after so many years again and again. What and inspiration to write a piece like this. This still moves me deeply, and alway will.

This to my uninitiated ear is three pieces of music cobbled together; all beautiful but the andante is, as played throughout by the mellowed Mr Perlman persona, the most beautiful piece of music!
My daughter is playing the allegro currently and I can't wait for her to experience the andante.
I know technically nothing of music other than what moves me but lets see...!😎

Además, sé que el violin, es un Stradivarius, regalo de Yehudi Menuhin a este violinista

One of the great violin concerto's. The maistro and virtuoso gives this composition that superb edge above other violinists. He is absolutely a fantastic performer. I once watched him perform when a string broke. I was amazed to see him take that mishap in his stride. He continued performing as if nothing happened. That too was an imaculate performance.

Superb continuity with regard to the editing,very fluid and exact. As for the performances, brilliant interpretation of my favorite work by Mendelssohn. It often reduces me to tears it is so beautiful.

I used to listen to this concerto when I was a teenager, in amongst The Door and Bob Dylan. So beautiful to find it here with Master Perlman. Such a light touch, astonishing. And a swing :)

All those notes in your head, from one composer to another, wow, what a brain these artists must have, at 18-, I started to learn to play the piano, thinking, that in two years I will be a concert pianist, little I knew, many are called, but few are chosen! Not one of us achieve excellence by our hard work, you either are blessed from above, or none at all! I qualify for the last segment, however, I love the word of God, so if any part of it bother you, try me out! It is much better than to play the piano with Excellence!

Does anyone notice that the opening video footage 2 minutes or so is different. The subsequent part he was clothed differently? I didn't analyze the tonality of the music. Wait, a couple of minutes later, say the 4th minute, he has the clothing from the start again, then changed. He was able to jump back and forth to change clothes? WOW. Cut and paste engineering.

The opening sequence of this concerto is stunning. There is a masterful combination of power and tenderness there; the melody is so confident in its expression (particularly in Perlman's rendition) that the difficulty and melodrama of the piece never stand out as showy or vulgar. I've always felt that the violin, despite its register and comparatively diminutive sound, is an immensely forceful instrument when played well: case in point.

精神重负，心情不好，身体不健康，人们的水平低，听音乐的水平低，使大音乐家生活困难辛苦，心情低落。
我现在听到音乐的演奏实在是非常好，演奏的水平高，音乐是听的，但是在电视或在YouTube 上是可以看到服装的，如果服装有彩色，画面會有生动活泼的感觉，那么观众會多听多看，这样的结果是好的，运气也會好的。

I found this amazing piece of music researching it from a book I read called " The Butterfly and the Violin" by Kristy Cambron. The story is partly about a young german girl during WWII who was a very gifted violinist but was sent to concentration camp by her family because she was caught helping jews. While at the camps she and others were chosen to play music at the camp, she was also chosen to play for special events for German officers etc. There is a scene in the book where she and her sweetheart play this piece of music. If you ever read the book, you would appreciate this piece of music even more! Perlman is truly an amazing talent and this video was beautifully created!

Perlman starts young in the First Movement then suddenly grows old and young again and old again with different conductors. Great performance though with the clearest notes and passages.

I have seen Itzhak Perlman at the Hill Auditorium of the University of Michigan in September 2014. He did play Cesar Franck's sonata for violin and piano (by John Root). I will never forget. Not only he is an outstanding violinist, but he has also a very beautiful voice.

I love his expressions whilst playing. He appears to be enjoying himself, exchanging glances with the conductor and others in the orchestra. clearly being one of the team, and not an ego hogging soloist. THAT is real character and professionalism. I also like the way he holds the instrument under his chin while he rests his arms. He looks so comfortable and confident, without appearing arrogant. What a guy - just looks like he is having fun. And that is just MY take. Your mileage may vary. JR

Every time I hear Itzhak Perlman, I get inspired to pick up and practice my violin again. And then, a couple months later, I realize that even half this level of playing isn't in the cards for me and I give up again. It's a vicious cycle.

I am a trumpet player. Ordinarily, I reach for a trumpet concerto when seeking a delightful musical experience. Then again this is Itzhak Perlman with Michael Tilson Thomas, whom we just lost conducting. All I can say this is about as sublime a musical experience as one will ever find!
Ah, with the Mendelssohn Concerto, it is simply satisfying in the extreme.

What is remarkable, among other brilliances, is that, if you close your eyes, the two performances that are almost 30 years apart with two different orchestras and conductors, are indistinguishable! Amazing!

I am 84-yeas of age, I am interested in classical music since the age of eleven, most of the great masters music is in my memory store, but none for note to note! What makes these performers so special, that they can switch from one concerto to another, and don't get confused, even if two of the Concertoes are in the same key!

"Various" turns out to be two conductors (one of them Tilson-Thomas, the other David Zinman). Disappointing. I suspect the interpretations are tampered with. The tempo is too much the same throughout to believe there was no manipulation of the speed of the image --something nowadays possible without a change of pitch. There is around a much more impressive editing job of many violinists doing the whole first movement of the Brahms --no violinist presented twice!

He can't stand without support but his sound is still better than most violinists currently out there. Just shows that all their erratic movements with their feet/body are total waste of energy and non-productive to the music. Movement should always be purposeful to the construction of the sound. Excess movement is ugly, unnecessary, distracting and altogether bad.

How funny would it be to have this talent AND an addiction to gambling or drugs?? Cuz ur so sad from going broke from the addiction, which only makes u play more passionately (especially sad passages during your next concert, to really make the audience feel your pain), but then u make plenty of money to feed your addiction from said concert, and it’s just a vicious cycle that feeds off of each other 😂😂😂. Look at Perlman’s face as he’s playing…he’s licking his chops thinking about all the gambling and or drugs he’s gonna get to do after the performance. I don’t know if he really does drugs or gambles…I’m just saying.
