This is what great artists do. They take something you think you know and they have you consider it in wholly different way. Bravo Gil! 100 Reply 7 replies @jomasch9106 2 months ago Großartig!! Yet, he seems so humble, and to be this great. He would rather give the ovation to the orchestra than receiving it for himself. I just love listening and watching him play. Thank you. 104 Reply 4 replies @marxismisevil839 1 month ago He brings something new to this piece. Wonderfully performed. 4 Reply @marcuschan2594 7 years ago Lovely :) thanks for the upload SSO! 3 Reply @leemarvin1354 4 years ago If you close your eyes and hear him play. It sounds as if he has a 10m long bow. Every note is so well connected... The only pity here is that some parts are a little too fast. 6 Reply 1 reply @fromcmk33 1 year ago Light. Delight. Bravo ..... well done. Comparisons are inevitable, Julia Fischer remains my favourite. God Bless 1 Reply @ThelmaAguilar-r9o 3 months ago 31:22 i love the guys behind smile when he plays ornaments Reply @violinhunter2 6 years ago Shaham is a favorite in Germany. He actually had a weak beginning in the Mendelssohn but the rest was pretty good. I heard him live with the San Francisco Symphony in this same concerto and it was much better than this. Sometimes he looks like he is trying to play instead of just playing. At times, he had the Bach thing sounding like an Irish reel but his intonation was truly flawless. But he is, after all, a great fiddler and musician. 13 Reply 2 replies @jingweiyu3568 3 years ago We must interview all conductors who have worked with Gil to see if his face is a distraction or inspiration 2 Reply @foodmore 7 years ago Also what a tiny conductor score! The performance here started out poorly with unsteady tempo but gradually improved as time went on. He and the orchestra weren't together at first, but then it became better as they became more in sync w/ one another as time went by. His cadenza is very nice but why did he have to laugh afterward? It seemed odd. He has nice phrasing but, regrettably, no long bow lines, which this romantic concerto needed. The last movement was forgettable, so prosaically played. The last chord of the orchestra should have been a splashing thunder but it sounded like a sweet dolce rose. Unbelievably dumb ending. The recording isn't good also. Lastly, I wonder why people state Mendelssohn concerto in E minor when he only wrote 1 violin concerto. 1 Reply 1 reply @yarkie4459 4 years ago отвратительно играет солист, как буд-то зубы встал почистить, в самом деле. фу! отвратительно! самая потрясающая запись - это Минтц+ Мета и израильская филармония. But the test is when someone can turn out a performance of Wieniasky concerto no.1 in live performance, and own it!! Only two I know of so far...Gil Shaham and Midori. 29 Reply 1 reply @LisaMurphy 6 years ago (edited) This is such a beautifully recorded, lit, edited, and produced video. Every note was played mechanically correct with musical calculation. It’s nice to see a human robot with programmed feeling. A lot of 1st position, open strings, harmonics? Basic correct playing.1st mvt. good. 2nd mvt. was okay. 3rd mvt. was great, the best perfect performance!!! I was surprised to see him play the last note in 3rd pos. on the G str. as opposed to 1st finger on the D str. Very sterile and safe. Everything correct but not memorable. Fake feeling with no individual character. 3 Reply @dinkarrao1 4 years ago i hope i will see him in person such a joy , may be Arizona or Kansas city 1 Reply @ecocleanppw 4 years ago its really good i love the violin 2 Reply @arcana830 7 years ago I think he is a tad sharp at times, otherwise impressive performance 2 Reply 1 reply @겨울바람-b1y 4 years ago So wonderful~~♡ 2 Reply @Karina-hn5jp 5 years ago Hello people, do you know what type of shoulder rest he is using? 1 Reply 1 reply @겨울바람-b1y 4 years ago So wonderful♡♡ 2 Reply @c.k.a.3814 4 years ago I love Gil Shaman 1 Reply @마시멜로-w8b 9 days ago 🙏🙏🙏 1 Reply @MD-zm6sn 1 year ago Somebody tell me, do orchestras not hire bald people?
