challenged Muhammad Ali to a boxing match but who 0:35 was this Legend well it was none other than Will Chamberlain and to find out how he managed to win two NBA titles 0:41 four MVPs and the record of most points scored in a single season we have to go back to 1955 Philadelphia State athletic 0:49 championships a 7' one teenager named Wilt Chamberlain nicknamed Dipper because he has to dip his head under 0:56 doorways has just won the state high jump and Shop title Wilt is seemingly 1:02 emerging as the next great track and field star of the United States or is he 1:07 red alach the head coach of the Boston Celtics a professional basketball team in the National Basketball Association 1:14 or NBA had received a word about a larger than life athlete hour back upon hearing about this incredible teenager 1:20 would begin to coach Wilt over the summer trying to make Chamberlain into a basketball legend but he wanted to test 1:26 his potential so he invited BH Bourne the MVP of the 1953 Collegiate 1:32 tournament to play welt in some one-on-one games a decision that would change both of their lives forever 1:38 because after a few hours of competing Bourne who had been drafted into the NBA just a few months before had decided to 1:45 retire from the game in January of 1955 in Chamberlain's final High School 1:50 season he continued to dominate the hardwood sitting a Philadelphia State High School scoring record of 74 points 1:58 however just a week later his record was erased sty watts would drop an insane 78 2:04 points frustrating the Big Dipper therefore in Russell's departure made one 43:06 thing clear the Lakers are now NBA Championship favorites it's April 9th 43:11 game seven of their first round matchup against the Phoenix Suns Wilt has just scored 30 points grabbed 27 rebounds and 43:18 thrown nine assists leading LA to a miracle series comeback the Big Dipper 43:23 would continue to dominate the St Louis Hawks averaging 7 1.3 points 22 rebounds 43:29 and 4.3 assists throughout their sweep Los Angeles was ready to win their first ever NBA championship but with no Bill 43:36 Russell who would Chamberlain have to beat May 4th 1970 Willis Reed the 1970 43:42 most valuable player for the New York Knicks has led his team back to the NBA finals for the first time since 1953 43:49 however after trying to score against welt Reed collapsed suffering a bruised hip that would remove him for the rest 43:55 of game five J to this injury Los Angeles would take the win and considering the Knicks had just lost 44:01 their star minia Chamberlain would finally win his second NBA title game seven Madison Square Garden it all came 44:08 down to this but without this stop and I think we see Willis coming 44:13 out there he comes right now 6' 10 from gramling the captain of the Knick the 44:19 most valuable player of the NBA frer then slows it down is picked up 44:26 by West at the top of the post re Willis Reed scores the first bucket 44:34 wil would respond with 21 points and 24 rebounds part one we have a new NBA 44:40 champion March 22nd 1971 sophomore big man Lou alcendor has just been named as 44:47 the NBA's most valuable player his hook shot is seemingly unguardable and alongside his star teammate Oscar 44:53 Robertson the Milwaukee Bucks have emerged as a new Rising force in the NBA and they were set to face Wilt 44:59 Chamberlain and his Lakers in the Western Conference Finals alen Baylor and Jerry West the Big Dipper's 45:05 Superstar teammates had both suffered season-ending injuries in the regular season meaning once again Wilt would 45:12 have to single-handily carry his team but given his age would he be able to keep elendor at Bay Lou Alcindor would 45:19 average 25 points 17.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists throughout the Lakers 4 games to 45:25 one series loss making it clear that there was a new dominant big man in the NBA Chamberlain after suffering what 45:33 should have been a career ending near injury and leading the NBA in minutes played over the past 11 Seasons barely 45:39 spending more than a minute on the bench and every single game he had played was worn out at 34 years old he was truly 45:46 ready to retire and an opportunity to do something he had always wanted to do had come up only this time it was for real a 45:54 press conference is organized for April 23rd to make the announcement official however there is one issue Wilt didn't 46:01 show up why well he had signed off on the fight for $500,000 however he thought it was after 46:08 taxes not before wilts would once again stick with basketball and thankfully for Chamberlain the Lakers have made some 46:15 drastic changes April 11th 1961 Bill Shaman the star shooting guard for the 46:20 Boston Celtics has just won his fourth NBA championship a great end to his 46:25 10-year NBA career Shaman would spend the next 10 years coaching in the NBA and American Basketball Association or 46:33 ABA leading the San Francisco warriors to the NBA finals Jack Ken Cook upon 46:38 realizing Shaman's contract with the Utah Stars had ended in the Abba knew exactly what he had to do head coach 46:45 Shaman bought something different to the Lakers teaching them the same style that red albach deployed with Bill Russell 46:51 and the Celtics Shaman would convince Wilt to play much more like his rival but he never told him to do so because 46:58 he would make it seem like it was Chamberlain's idea through asking questions and guiding him to the answer 47:04 that he wanted which helped Shaman earn Wilt respect however the Lakers were aging alen Baylor's injury was so bad 47:12 that he decided to retire at the start of the 1971 1972 season January 7th 1972 47:19 Los Angeles is in St Louis for a regular season matchup against the Hawks on the verge of setting an unbreakable m record 47:27 utilizing a much faster transition based style of basketball with Chamberlain focusing on blocking or altering shots 47:34 at the room rebounding and then looking for quick passes the Los Angeles Lakers have just won an insane 33 games in a 47:41 row two nights later La was in Milwaukee looking to extend their win streak to 34 47:47 however standing in their way is Lou Alor who after converting to Islam has changed his name to kareim Abdul Jabar 47:54 last year's MVP would drop an incredible rible 39 points once again dominating 47:59 Chamberlain making it clear that his reign as the NBA's most dominant force was coming to a close however for the 48:06 first time in Chamberlain's career he had something that his rival didn't April 22nd 1972 Western Conference 48:13 Finals game six kareim has been dominant all series averaging 33 points 15.5 48:20 rebounds 4.8 assists and a couple of blocks per game Chamberlain knowing full 48:25 well that this is his final chance to get to the NBA finals knows that he has to go out and do the impossible the Big 48:32 Dipper would do something that no other NBA player had been able to do block a 48:37 Kareem Abdul Jabar Skyhook finishing the game with nine blocks five of which were 48:43 on Kareem a sports reporter who had followed wilt's whole career shared professional career Leonard Bloom the owner of an ABA 50:49 team had finally after years and years of trying has convinced Chamberlain to 50:54 sign in his League the big Dipper has signed a $600,000 per-year contract with the San 51:01 Diego conquistadors as a player coach however there was a problem with his contract because at the time the NBA had 51:08 an option Clause meaning whenever a player's contract ended they were bound to their team for a year after 51:14 Chamberlain who was still under contract with the Lakers was prevented from playing in the ABA after a court hearing 51:21 however Wilt was allowed to remain on as a coach disappointed with the Court's ruling Wilt would retire from 51:27 professional basketball at the end of the 1973 1974 ABA season ending his 51:32 career as a two-time NBA champion four-time MVP and arguably the greatest 51:37 athlete to ever step foot onto a basketball court after his incredible 14-year NBA career Chamberlain would 51:44 make a statement that would not only shock the NBA but the whole world that you slept with 20,000 women you made 51:50 that statement but you know I thought maybe one of the reasons you invited me on the started wilts Wonder Woman his goal was to sponsor female track and field athletes of all ages 53:15 paying for their training gear coaching and event fees whilst also showing up to support when they competed wt's 53:21 incredible life would come to an end on October 12th 1999 at 63 years old a 53:27 lifetime of insomnia stomach and heart issues unfortunately caught up to him and the world lost a legend much sooner 53:33 than everyone thought well Chamberlain was truly one of the greatest players to have ever played while many discredit 53:40 his statistics due to the era he played in after spending the past 2 months and over 300 hours creating this video to me 53:47 it seemed harder to score back then because the rules heavily favored the defense Chamberlain couldn't really use 53:54 his strength like a Shaquille O'Neal did he had had to rely on finesse with fadeaways and finger rolls while I do 54:00 agree if you dropped a copypaste Wilt into today's NBA he wouldn't be as dominant due to his lack of shooting but 54:07 if Chamberlain with his athletic ability grew up in today's world I don't think Victor wanyama would be the only alien 54:13 we'd be talking about also did you know there was a player who missed over 5,000 free throws and only made one3 in his 54:21 19-year NBA career who still managed to outscore everyone winning four NBA 54:26 titles three finals Sure enough, Wilt went on to improve and then plateau at “alien” levels year after year. It will be interesting to see how high Wemby’s plateau goes - he has some huge shoes to fill. For all time leaders the list is dominated by older players but Iverson is 4th, Sprewell 9th, Lebron 15th and then a few others sprinkled around. It's nice to see someone give Wilt Chamberlain some love. However I disagree with you on Wilt not being dominant in today's era of basketball. The first thing is, Wilt could definitely shoot the basketball. He spent most of his career hitting that great fade away jumper. The video footage clearly shows that. He also had the finger roll. Wilt would dominant in rebounds and minutes played per game. He would lead the league in blocks as well. The only thing he truly struggled with his entire career was free throw shooting. His strength was unmatched. This era of basketball is very very soft. No one would be able to stop Wilt in this era. He may also be the most athletic player to ever play basketball. His peers made it very clear that Wilt could do whatever he wanted to on a basketball court. They also said they were glad Wilt was a nice man and they were glad that he took it easy on them due to his inhuman strength .
