something that the world has never seen 0:14 before some people would call it a 0:17 Utopia others consider it a nightmare 0:20 what we are really looking at is the 0:22 future at least according to the mind of 0:25 Elon Musk 0:32 now this all began properly in the 0:34 spring of 2020 California officials 0:37 ordered Tesla to close their Fremont 0:39 manufacturing plant due to the spread of 0:42 covid-19 and Elon 0:44 refused this was a pivotal time for the 0:47 fledgling electric car maker first 0:49 deliveries of the brand new model y 0:51 crossover had just begun on March 16th 0:55 as the whole world was beginning to slow 0:56 down Tesla was ramping up but they were 1:00 encountering a lot of friction on the 1:02 way by May 2020 Elon was suing the state 1:06 of California he wrote on Twitter at the 1:08 time frankly this is the final straw 1:11 Tesla will now move its HQ and future 1:13 programs to Texas Nevada immediately for 1:17 musk this was a pretty drastic change of 1:20 Direction after leaving South Africa at 1:23 the age of 18 Elon made a couple of 1:25 brief stopovers in Ontario Canada and 1:27 Philadelphia Pennsylvania before 1:29 arriving ding in California it was 1995 1:33 and he was just 24 years old from there 1:36 we kind of all know what happened Elon 1:39 made a lot of money bought a lot of 1:41 property and founded a lot of new 1:43 companies all in the state of California 1:46 Elon could have been a poster child for 1:48 the Innovative Tech focused 1:50 entrepreneurial Spirit of Silicon Valley 1:53 but it wouldn't last in an interview 1:55 with site selection magazine Texas 1:58 governor Greg Abbott said that the 1:59 discussion between himself and Elon Musk 2:02 began in Spring 2020 the first step 2:05 would be to bring Tesla's gigafactory to 2:07 Austin but Governor Abbott claims that 2:10 even in these early days musk had a 2:12 larger Vision that he wanted to achieve 2:14 for the future in Texas we know that 2:17 Elon Musk can be emotional and impulsive 2:20 when he loses his temper blackmail me 2:22 with advertising blackmail me with money 2:25 go yourself his biographer Walter 2:27 Isaacson coined that as demon mode but 2:30 there was more to this transition from 2:31 California to Texas than just spiting 2:34 his perceived enemies at his core Elon 2:37 is an analytical mind Texas presented 2:40 logical benefits that would never be 2:42 available on the densely populated West 2:44 Coast there was plenty of open land to 2:47 build on that allowed operations to 2:49 scale up in size there was less traffic 2:52 to deal with and that meant people could 2:54 move around faster and more efficiently 2:56 the houses were more affordable and that 2:58 would help to draw in Young talent to 3:00 the company the taxes were lower which 3:03 in turn lowers operating cost and of 3:05 course there are fewer regulations in 3:08 Texas at Tesla's annual shareholder 3:11 meeting on October 7th 2021 held at the 3:14 freshly completed gigafactory in Austin 3:16 Texas Elon made the move official 3:19 Tesla's official headquarters was 3:21 leaving Palo Alto and Silicon Valley 3:24 behind but the gigafactory was just the 3:26 first step Elon still had four more 3:29 companies that were left behind in 3:31 California but not for long the boring 3:34 company would be the next to arrive and 3:36 this is where we need to introduce a new 3:38 location Bastrop Texas it's a suburb of 3:41 Austin just east of the Tesla 3:43 gigafactory and on a stretch of Rural 3:46 Road along the bank of the Colorado 3:47 River the boring company has set up shop 3:51 2 years ago this was a cow field and now 3:54 it's becoming hyperloop Plaza the center 3:57 of research and development for Elon 3:58 musk's fast growing company moving the 4:01 boring company headquarters out of 4:03 California was less of a dramatic move 4:06 as the tunneling operation had 4:07 essentially been founded in the SpaceX 4:09 parking lot at Hawthorne a suburb of La 4:12 it was past due to leave the nest and a 4:14 company that was built to dig needs room 4:16 to dig but that's not even the most 4:19 interesting thing that's going on around 4:21 hyperloop Plaza this is also the 4:23 location of elon's much-hyped futuristic 4:26 Utopia city of snail Brook it's been 4:29 said that the town has room for 110 4:32 houses two warehouses a pool Sports 4:34 facility and putting green it's also 4:38 been said that the design for snail 4:40 Brook was influenced by discussions 4:41 between musk his ex-girlfriend Grimes 4:44 Kanye West and Kanye's personal 4:47 architect and there is the beginning of 4:49 a community taking shape at the boring 4:51 company site it looks like this to my 4:55 eye more like a really clean trailer 4:57 park than the city of the future but 4:59 early days 5:00 the boring company does also have its 5:03 own Community Center it's called the 5:04 boring Bodega across the road the boring 5:07 company has a new neighbor Space X this 5:11 gigantic Warehouse is the location where 5:13 the company has been manufacturing their 5:15 starlink internet terminals not the 5:17 satellites The Home dishes and in 5:19 September SpaceX announced that there 5:22 had been 1 million starlink kits 5:24 manufactured in just 10 months of 5:27 operation SpaceX has been in Texas for a 5:30 long time this is kind of where Elon 5:32 Musk started putting down roots in the 5:33 state not in Austin but 350 Mi South in 5:37 the village of bokach chica where SpaceX 5:39 started buying up land all the way back 5:40 in 2014 now the company didn't appear to 5:43 be doing much with it until August 2019 5:46 when this strange little rocket called 5:48 starhopper lifted off for the first time 5:51 and that was the beginning of the 5:53 Starship program and what would 5:54 eventually become the SpaceX headquarter 5:57 of star base why is that not an Austin 6:00 Well easy answer being you can't launch 6:02 rockets from Austin you need to be on 6:04 the coast and as close to the equator as 6:06 physically possible which is exactly 6:09 what Bach chica provides this is another 6:12 location where it's been said that Elon 6:13 Musk was building his own town in Bach 6:16 chica there was a bit of a head start 6:18 about three dozen Ranch houses had been 6:19 built on two streets that were each 6:21 about a/4 Mile in length SpaceX bought 6:24 out as many of them as they could as 6:27 Starship activity began to ramp up but 6:29 that wasn't nearly enough living space 6:31 so just like at the boring company 6:33 SpaceX set up their own employee 6:35 Community this one is a little trailer 6:37 park there are some new houses under 6:39 construction in Bach chica but they're 6:41 pretty big definitely not highdensity 6:43 living you can tell that SpaceX has 6:46 basically Taken full control of the area 6:48 they even changed the street names we 6:50 have e John's Drive meme Street and LBJ 6:53 Boulevard as in lynen B Johnson who was 6:56 president when NASA landed on the moon 6:58 there's a pub that's exclusive to SpaceX 7:01 and the company also built a private 7:03 school down the road called adastra for 7:05 employees children that is also not the 7:08 only school that Elon Musk might attach 7:10 his name to there is a tax filing from 7:13 December 2023 that shows Elon is 7:15 planning to found a university in Austin 7:19 this is being done through one of musk's 7:21 Charities the foundation and public 7:24 records show that Elon gifted $100 7:26 million specifically to create and 7:29 launch a primary and secondary school in 7:31 Austin focused on teaching science 7:34 technology engineering and math once it 7:38 is fully operational the filing States 7:40 the school will focus on creating a 7:43 university now jumping back to the 7:45 corporate world we can talk about the 7:47 newest musk arrival neuralink in July 7:50 2024 news emerged that elon's brain 7:52 implant company had begun construction 7:54 on a $14 million three-story office 7:57 building and Manufacturing space it's 8:00 just east of the city kind of halfway in 8:02 between the Tesla Giga Factory and the 8:04 boring company Bastrop site also located 8:07 on the bank of the same Colorado River 8:09 as those two existing projects and there 8:12 are 37 acres of land owned by nurlink 8:15 Corp more than enough to expand in the 8:18 future now nurlink is still 8:20 headquartered in Fremont California it's 8:22 a facility that has been home to a mix 8:24 of pigs sheep and monkeys who were 8:27 involved in the early testing phase of 8:28 the nurlink implant theoretically now 8:31 that the company has moved on to human 8:33 testing they are probably going to be 8:35 much less invested in keeping all of 8:37 these animals which will probably free 8:39 up the company to make a new start at 8:41 this Austin property and then there's X 8:45 now this is a weird one in July 2024 8:48 Elon Musk posted on X that xhq will move 8:51 to Austin of course X was once Twitter 8:55 and was not founded by Elon Musk but was 8:57 acquired in a hostile takeover a couple 8:59 of years ago and that acquisition 9:01 included the company's head office in 9:03 San Francisco which inevitably led to 9:05 Elon Musk moving back to California from 9:08 Texas in order to reshape the social 9:10 media company in his own image one of 9:14 the first things that Elon did with 9:15 Twitter was fire about 80% of the 9:18 existing Workforce so you have to 9:21 imagine that office space is pretty much 9:23 empty which is probably weird so it 9:26 wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to 9:28 hang on to the likely very expensive 9:30 property elon's disagreement with 9:32 California politics and particularly 9:34 Governor Gavin Nome has only grown over 9:37 time Elon also said he's had enough of 9:39 dodging gangs of violent drug addicts 9:41 just to get in and out of the building 9:44 now you might be noticing that none of 9:46 these musk companies that are moving to 9:48 Austin are actually in Austin they are 9:51 all kind of on the outskirts and in most 9:54 cases that makes sense the boring 9:56 company needs room to dig Tesla needs 9:59 room to to build a million cars and 10:00 robots and whatever else neuralink might 10:03 have to continue some amount of animal 10:05 keeping as they progress into new 10:07 devices and implant Technologies SpaceX 10:10 needs to launch rockets but of all 10:13 things you'd think that the head office 10:15 for a website would be right at home in 10:17 Austin's downtown core but no all signs 10:21 point to the new X headquarters being 10:23 located in Bastrop and probably in the 10:26 same location as the boring company 10:28 hyper Loop Plaza there are probably two 10:31 ways to look at this it's either a case 10:33 of Elon Musk becoming increasingly 10:35 reclusive and secretive with his 10:37 operations or it could have something to 10:40 do with elon's plan to make X more than 10:44 just a social media app it's going to be 10:47 the everything app and it's also 10:49 intricately linked with elon's xai 10:51 Venture and we know that generative AI 10:54 requires massive amounts of computing 10:56 power to make it work we've already seen 10:59 Elon build the world's largest AI Data 11:02 Center in Memphis Tennessee that's going 11:04 to power an updated version of grock AI 11:06 that might be released as early as the 11:08 end of this year but that doesn't mean 11:11 that Elon won't build an even bigger and 11:14 more powerful data center in Bastrop one 11:17 that can Propel xai towards their 11:19 ultimate goal of decoding the mystery 11:22 behind life the universe and everything 11:26 and I think that's the real reason 11:27 behind this all sure politics have 11:30 always played a role they play an even 11:32 bigger role now and of course no one 11:35 wants to live in a city that's full of 11:36 crime and homelessness but the important 11:39 thing that Texas offers Elon and his 11:41 companies is Room to Grow efficient 11:45 affordable sustainable growth and that 11:48 might be something that California 11:50 offered in the past but it's not the 11:52 case anymore so with that in mind even 11:55 though we've already seen musk do a lot 11:58 in Texas we can say for sure that this 12:00 is only the beginning of the beginning 12:03 it's only getting bigger from here 994 Comments @georgepratt3721 3 weeks ago One of your best videos. It is a completely different county. Completely different governance. 322 Reply 61 replies @cathleeny8670 10 days ago We moved to Bastrop 6.5 years ago from south Austin. We are about 1.5 miles from the SpaceX/other complexes. Except for the cement mining companies (a scourge on the earth), it is a peaceful lovely area. We have a small 2 acre organic farm, and our tiny community of Utley has a few of these (organic farms), since the soil is ideal for growing. We listen to the birds during the day and have quiet nights. We have little impact from the Musk facilities. It is positive for the area. 51 Reply 1 reply @nacurite 2 weeks ago We bought 49 acres of land and a house in Bastrop Tx seven years ago and it turns out the boring company not even 5 mins away 😊 154 Reply 7 replies @diegocorrea1491 2 days ago Excellent video but Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. Building wealth involves developing good habits regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. SpaceX was the first one of his companies in Texas for their engine testing facility in McGregor. It was this experience with Texas that made him comfortable, moving Tesla and then the rest of his companys there. 56 Reply @raenico5285 3 weeks ago Of course Kanye has a personal architect 54 Reply @jackbharucha1475 3 weeks ago LBJ was not President when the USA landed on the Moon. And while his initial intent was to have it in Austin at the last minute City council tried to pull a number of clauses that would of changed the original deals he had with the city, so at the last minute he decided to build Giga TX on the East Side of Highway 130, on unincorporated land. 38 Reply 8 replies @sangmoon2464 3 weeks ago The Austin City Council tries very hard to imitate San Francisco. I believe this is why Musk is trying to stay out of Austin and Travis County. 30 Reply 4 replies @siamimam2109 3 weeks ago Austin is becoming California 2.0 😂 Elon is smart to stay in those neighboring Cities that are still Red 75 Reply 4 replies @melvinsims8654 3 weeks ago Not locating in Austin is about taxes staying out of city limits saves lots of tax money county taxes in Texas are way cheaper than city taxes 5 Reply @majic5zero 3 weeks ago i believe you are incorrect about one proffered "fact" in this video. Bastrop county has several towns and small towns in Texas have their own identity, history, cultures. The Californian and wannabe Californians, from wherever, Ohio, etc. would benefit from learning some things about Texas that make it great, and some Texas youngsters could learn that too. Example would be, though perhaps unarticulated likely because it’s just taken for granted, a kind of individualism, of the sort that generally transcends the groupism or collectivism that California seems prone to. Labels are not as important as the heart or soul you’re talking to. Thanks for the video, might be a little misleading, or perhaps a little clueless. Elon seems to be getting more Texan by the day, at least he is always open to learning. 1 Reply @ceciliaespinosa7995 2 weeks ago Please get your information correct. Buy a $300k house, pay $1200 a month for the payment and $1000 a month for the privilege of living in it. There is, however, the thought going around of doing away with property taxes, so there is hope. 6 Reply 5 replies @visionary4787 3 weeks ago Elon Musk’s vision for Austin and Texas at large isn’t just bold—it’s groundbreaking. What we’re witnessing is the blueprint for a new kind of future, one that shuns the overcrowded, overregulated, and stagnant atmosphere of Silicon Valley. Musk’s choice to build outside of Austin speaks volumes: he’s carving out a space that embraces innovation at scale. Whether it’s Neuralink, Tesla, or his reclusive "city" projects, the common thread here is room to grow—something California simply couldn’t offer anymore. Texas is a fertile ground for Musk’s larger-than-life ambitions, and I believe this is just the first glimpse of what’s to come. 17 Reply 7 replies @johnchristopher20 3 weeks ago So LBJ was president and he let Nixon call Neal and Buzz when Apollo 11 landed? 😮 gee, i didn’t know that when I watched the event in the summer of 1969. 10 Reply 2 replies @edwardbenavidez7442 6 days ago Great!! His engineers (that he seemingly fights with non-stop) are the intelligent ones and he personally holds them back entirely for his own glory. Then again, this is par for the course with autocrats and dictators, they truly see themselves as the main characters of life. Musk doesn't want to grow, he wants to exploit. He wants a world where only he and his insanely rich friends can do whatever they want with zero consequences. It's the classic supervillain story, "what's your goal?" --- "to take over the world!" At the end of the day, just an evil person who wants to subject his will over everyone else. Rinse and repeat. The problem is... people tend to believe that ONE person is always the source of all things. Like how people of a nation tend to blame the Prime Minster or President when times are bad for them, they think that the main figurehead is indeed personally responsible for their own follies, when in reality it is more like a group of really rich people decided that they want EVEN MORE money for themselves and will stop it nothing to attain it. Make no mistake, Musk only wants a better future for himself and a select few around him... People who have known him all his life have frequently said he's always been this way, but it hasn't been until about the last 10 years that the general public saw the real Musk as a psychotic, power obsessed control freak who has zero empathy for literally any other human except himself. Not to mention, he is at the end of the day, the world's richest keyboard warrior. His purchase of twitter and then reshaping it into a failure of right-wing propaganda along with his insanely childish behaviour about it is showing HOW something run entirely under Musk does... It fails, it fails so hard that no one is willing to come in and help it... But to him it's worth it because he has his own personal microblog and he's the admin. Again, obsession with power. Musk doesn't care about you, he doesn't even know you and prefers it that way. He wants you to have kids entirely so he can replenish his wage-slaves roughly every 16 years, he wants you to buy his products assuming they were perfectly engineered and when you foolishly believe "his" cars can drive themselves and you die in a horrific wreck, he will either never notice your death or in other cases, actually promote your death on Twitter laughing at the idea (he has done this in the past with Tesla's crashing, showing zero empathy for the person who died, or their family OR even a message that this is totally unacceptable and needs to be fixed). But no one listens, they don't care... The tech bros who love Musk are obsessed with him because it's their fetish too... The idea, the thought, of being so rich that you could just continue trolling the entire world all for your personal entertainment. You have to understand that the people who look up to Musk WANT this for themselves as well. They feel that by following the cult leader, they will be bestowed SOMETHING for all their loyalty, right? You won't , you were and are his wage-slave, and for the people who actually have to work at his companies, my god, he has zero qualms about openly firing the actual people he depends on. He doesn't know your struggles, doesn't understand living paycheque to paycheque, doesn't worry about basic living expenses, all those things are HILARIOUS to him, your life, your real real life, is an absolute joke to billionaires. You exist solely to be exploited by people like him. 1 Reply @mexicanfluency 5 days ago Awesome video. Let's go TEXAS! Musk is historically a bad neighbor wherever he goes. He contributes little to the local communities he sets up in behind his own enterprise and any DJ atuon he has comes with the expectation of more tax cuts rather than trying to buy community favor. For the Texans complaining about Californians moving to the state, it’s ironic that they somehow think Musk wouldn’t be bringing parts of his Californian workforce to the state. It was idiotic to locate a tunneling company so close to a major river. Now the Boring Company threatens to contaminate the river for every town downstream. Musk’s Space X essentially took a wildlife refuge and public park and made it his personal playground for his exploding rockets. Now locals can’t access the public beach and the area is littered with space junk. Not to mention that Mush threatened legal action to local residents who refused to sell to him. Rockets can also be tested in the middle of the desert out west, there was no need to lease a public park and force out local residents. Musk’s university is a partisan hack job because he thinks other universities are too liberal and his own school is a $hit show in terms of administration and curriculum already. Students won’t learn much there. We already know company towns don’t end well for those who live in them, but those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it. His enterprises have raised the prices of houses in Bastrop County starting another wave of unaffordability for local residents. And now he wants to construct his weird sex compound for all his wife’s and children to live in. Musk is the poster child for all the wrong change happening to Austin. Texas presents an environment where union-busting is easier, and its political climate aligns more closely with his views on trans rights. It's especially troubling considering he has a trans child who has publicly denounced him, describing him as cruel and abusive, particularly regarding her identity. She even changed her last name to distance herself from him. While I can understand the logistical appeal of opening a mega auto plant in Texas—like the central location for shipping cars—California is a state full of opportunities and innovation. What concerns me more is Musk's growing support of Trump. As someone who once admired Musk, I've now lost trust in him. As a trans person, I feel his actions are contributing to a world that is becoming increasingly unsafe for the trans and broader LGBTQ+ community. LBJ deserves the naming because he was president during almost all of the space program that put humans on the moon, apart from the landing itself. One of those sad things in politics, where you work for the thing, risk re-election by levying taxes to support the thing, but are no longer in office when the thing is accomplished, and so the new guy's name plate goes on the monuments and into the history books. (I'm not a historian, but I was alive back then. I believe LBJ dropped out of running for the 1968 primaries because of unpopularity with everyone due to JFK's continuing Vietnam War and because he sided with Republicans to pass civil rights legislation, which 'reduced' his popularity with Southern Democrats. Yes, the Austin area is beautiful. Espcially the Hill Country. But texans as a whole are so full of themselves. Its really obnoxious. Im born a military brat then served myself. Ive lived and worked all over the world. The only thing aboyt texas i really like above most other states is the lack of income tax. That saved me hundreds a month over some states. But not all states. My issue with Austin is it is a full tilt left liberal city. Why is Elon so high on this city. I cant think of any state in the SE that wouldnt welcome him with huge tax breaks. This is what Netflix did - they moved from the middle of Silicon Valley to the middle of Hollywood, sending a message that they're no longer a "tech company" and getting serious about being a studio. A move to the traditional center of the auto industry would've done the same thing for Tesla.
