I suffer from anxiety related stress and I find taking Bulgarian yoghurt helped tremendously in stabilizing my mood and anxiety. I believe there is a strong correlation between the mind and the gut biome.

I think Naturopathic doctors can have some very misguided views at times, but in this situation I've seen that they definitely have a point. Many have been pointing out this connection for decades and "prescribing" remedies for stress through this medium.

I was completely cynical about this "your gut can affect your brain " theory until a recent bout of food poisoning. I felt perfectly fine after 12 hours or so - except I had zero interest in food which lasted several days. My doctor said my stomach needed a "reset" and probiotics did the trick. I was amazed how much an illness could completely change my thoughts.

I am so glad you presented a video on this topic - As a microbiologist suffering with Ulcerative Colitis, I find this to be a highly important subject and the explanations you give are more than relevant to my dissertation. I cannot wait to see how what I learnt about stress and the microbiome affects later studies :)

This is really interesting to me, especially as a guy who's had ulcerative colitis for about 10 years now and has struggled with depression for about the same time frame. UC sucks, but UC AND depression make a pretty brutal combination.

Great video! To add to this, nutrition issues can result in anxiety. For example, magnesium deficiency can be a problem. This deficiency may result from our soils being depleted of magnesium, the increased amount of magnesium used by the body during stress, medications like birth control, and not eating enough magnesium. One good food source of magnesium (and delicious) is pumpkin seeds!

Also keep in mind, our gut is the brain we had before we had a brain. And plays a huge role in addiction, including cravings for sugar and other chemicals.

For those who are interested in this topic, I'd recommend the book "I contain multitudes." I'm going through it right now and it hits on all of the topics in this video and then some (like, for instance, how cows and other rumanids need their microbiome in order to actually digest their food). It's also pretty fair about what evidence on the impacts of the microbiome are more "certain" or more speculative.

Given that everyone in my family from my Dad on down- I don't know about his siblings or parents except that his mother had many of the same health issues I do- has IBS/food sensitivities/fodmap issues, this is a VERY important topic to me. If there's a way to tweak our systems so we react less to foods that would help all of us. Especially me, since I have the worst of it- the inflammation and blood sugar issues from our normal diets contributes to pretty much every health problem I have aside from the inability to sweat normally that my sister and I were born with. Anything that would let me lose weight, somehow fix the hypothyroidism, help me to get my blood sugar under control, make my mental illnesses less serious, and cause my stupid asthma to tone it down to what it was when I was a kid and I could still go hiking and ride my bike as far as I wanted to would be an absolute Godsend.

For the last two years I have had a dysbiosis, Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. During that time I have been treated with antibiotics twice which has let me perceive at least 4 drastically different gut microbiomes. I have a first hand perspective of drastic mental changes that accompany changes in human gut flora. In the last two years I have felt some of the worst forms of mental illnesses from being suicidally depressed, to crippling anxiety that caused me to become agoraphobic. I have been able to treat all of my symptoms of SIBO, including the mental, with a short dose of antibiotic and long term probiotics. To me it is no question that the human microbiome is at the central cause of everything from IBS, to many mental illnesses. It is my belief that dysbiosis are getting more prevalent due to the increase in consumption of highly ferment-able foods and the widespread use of antibiotics.

I have been logging my symptoms with the King's College, London, Zoe app which are front runners in researching the gut microbiome. It's fascinating! I have been logging since it started at the beginning of the pandemic and recently its branched out to other areas of health as it has the largest group of test subjects ever, logging whatever they need. It's a new and amazing way of testing things and of keeping tabs on whatever symptoms each survey needs. It's truly ground breaking and if you can join in the US it's a great way to help scientists and you feel like you've actually contributed.

I don't know if anyone has tested this, but could the reason the mice were getting more stressed be because their gut wasn't creating as much seratonin, due to the reduced variety of gut microbes? I didn't read the paper, but it seems plausible to me.

I'm glad to see some news about this subject, since I was assuming nothing much was being done about it and would be another 20-30 years before the science and medical community as a whole was clued on to the idea that gut health plays a surprising role in both metal health and physical health.
Right now I have a doctor directed nutrition and diet plan (yes, with probiotics) to help with chronic depression, and I'm making slow but encouraging progress after dealing with it for most of my life. But one thing that seems to keep coming up when trying to get things fixed right has been gut health. Honestly, I've ran into more stuff about the connection between mental disorders and nutrition and gut health than I'd ever care to know.
Shame though, since I know that the big pharmaceuticals (mostly here in the US) aren't going to like the idea that proper food and microbes might actually be the best medicine, and not the drugs they have spent so much money on researching and looking for a use for.

If they want to learn more, they should study me. I've always felt blah. I've drank heavier over the years to the point my gut was getting really screwed up, to the point where eating soluble fiber was a major problem while heavy drinking. When this happened, and I ate something with simple sugars, I had the greatest highs and wish I always felt like this. It wasn't a sugar high, I never had a crash and was wondering how I could always feel like this. Hapiper and more confident. Anyways, I would have to go to a clear liquid diet to let my gut heal.

I’m here trying to build a case for a natural approach to treating my MS - by strengthening my blood brain barrier/improving my gut-brain microbiome. At the moment, I don’t believe I actually have MS. I believe that the antibiotic I was on for an infected finger crossed my blood brain barrier because it was weak, poisoning me and causing damage to some of the myelin and altering my body’s functions. Lots of natural approaches to treatment use blood brain barrier/gut-brain microbiome science. I’ve decided that this is the best approach for me because it means that I’m completely in control of my own “treatment” and won’t be opening myself up to unwanted side effects or risks. I think that MS, Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases are actually results of weakened blood brain barriers/gut-brain microbiomes and that by finding ways to strengthen the barriers between the body and the brain, we can reduce or even eliminate the risks of neurodegeneration. I REALLY hope I’m right. Next month I’ll be telling my neurologist all this and hope that he will support my logic and my choice 😅

I feel that i can relate to multiple parts of this video from being a cesarean birth, and have major issues be bound or restrained. I also can easily adjust to basically any environmental situation or living situation without it becoming to big of a problem. I in fact have a harder time going to a public place than facing complete power grid failure in the u.s. rational? Nope ? Id help it if I can just figure out how. I can relate by feeling mentally terrible when I eat a poor diet. Depressed and lethargic and dim. I had internal chemical burns in the early two thousands and my digestive track no longer works right. When I have a steady intake of live culture yogurt and/ or Keefer, I have a much easier time of life internally and externally.

That is super interesting. in Costa Rica, the Bribri people (an indigenous people) believe that you actually do a lot of your thinking with your gut. They believe the stomach and the liver do the same or more thinking than the brain. They have based their ancient medical treatments (based on herbs and different ways to prepare them) on that belief. It turns out they seem to have, at least, a solid ground for that.

Literally 3 1/2 years ago I had to go to a doctor because I was severely ill. He doesn't go through insurance because he really tries to get to the root of the problem. He found out my whole GI tract was inflamed and I had horrible IBS (while my other dr just said pretty much that's the way it is). When he told me that 80-85% of serotonin was made in my gut and could explain why I was so severely depressed and having over 10 panic attacks a day. Once he worked on helping heal my gut- I honestly had hope again. I thought I was dying and there was no way out of the mental hell I was in. By the grace of God. I am doing so much better. And honestly, could be doing even better. I just need to be more intentional. But he knew all of this stuff for years!! If you are not doing well. How is your gut?? I now don't eat gluten (inflamitory or milk) to keep the inflammation a bay. I know some people don't get this whole gluten then but trust me. If you have ibs, anxiety, depression, getting sick all the time-, there's a reason. Don't just let a doctor give you some pills to manage it. Dive in and find what's the problem. There's hope! I will share this with who ever because I know the mental hell and physical pain and how hard that was.

Also the two main organs the first living things evolved were a brain and a stomach.

There's a thing that can happen where yeast becomes a part of your microbiome, and it causes you to get dangerously drunk when you eat too much sugar and simple carbs like bread. It can be hard to diagnose because it's pretty rare, and because doctors tend not to believe the patients when they come to the hospital drunk and say they haven't been drinking.

In a video about the microbiome the channel What I’ve Learned made, he talks about how certain bacteria might cause autism. He tells the story of a kid who was developing normally, but after several antibiotics courses started acting weird and was later diagnosed with severe autism. Noticing a link between the antibiotics and the sudden autism, the mother dove into the studies and found that antibiotics could cause autism-like behaviour in mice. Antibiotics targeted a lot of bacteria, but not a certain bacterium which was also overly present in autistic children’s guts. So she found a doctor willing to experiment and gave her son a antibiotic targeted specifically at this bacterium and the autism in the kid slowly became less.
I find it very interesting how much your microbiome affects your brain and how it could be the cause of a lot of mental issues. Another example: a transplantation of gut microbiome between two sisters led the receiving sister to become overweight like the other sister, even though she didn’t change her diet or workout schedule.
Future research about this topic really could result in a lot of problems disappearing, it’s amazing

Another thing not mentioned in this video is how most drugs designed to improve mental health (e.g. benzodiazipines, SSRI's, antipsychotics etc.) tend to have profound negative effects on digestion, throwing off gut flora levels. The conclusion this data points to is that psyche meds may exacerbate the source of mood pathologies, while making the symptoms less noticeable making total recovery that much more difficult.

Our dog got a steroid injection last year (without our permission from the vet). Within seconds he started panting, his eyes bulged out, he went from calm to hyper in minutes - and it hasn't stopped. The poor dog was bouncing off the walls jumping and freaking out. He was very well trained and knew many commands and tricks, and that all went away. We were afraid we would have to have him euthanized because he was out of control and a nervous wreck, us too! We dealt with this for all this time, then started him on high amounts of probiotics. Guess what? He is calming down, and his eyes have pretty much stopped bulging. I feel so bad for animals and people who are the victims of the ignorance and stupidity of people in the medical profession who have no idea of what they are doing - and don't bother to learn the truth of their profession - which is NOT to heal but gain a profit, or who just don't give a damn. There ARE safe alternatives to steroids and other deadly drugs. Great video. (Funny how the word "probiotics" isn't accepted as a word by YouTube. Censorship.)

Now since I've had probiotic and replenished my calcium and vitamin D intake not only I'm physically healthy, but I used to suffer from severe anxiety panic attacks and now it's the opposite.

Also sci show!!!! Do an episode on the "Wim Hof Method" and vagus Nerve tone it's fascinating stuff! Its a form of controlled intermittent hypoxia training that improves vagus nerve tone! It literally works to destroy depression and anxiety in 10 weeks! It's a form of mind-body conditioning that completely rewires the brains relationship to stress/ chronic stress / anxiety / misery.
It also enables the individual to increase their body temperature at will (immune response suppression, which is why it helps to treat depression as depression has been linked to an over active immune response in the brain as a result of trauma!) ! Makes their mitochondria denser and more efficient as a result of the temperature increase, increase brown fat levels in individuals,
Is a treatment for A MASSIVE RANGE OF AUTO IMMUNE DISORDERS. (Thanks to its auto immune suppression qualities) as well as mental health disorders (id argue they have a lot in common, more than we currently understand)
Oh btw the technique is at the forefront of research at Stanford, as well as neuroscience of consciousness research at Stanford too,
So there's that! It's changed my life, and I'd love it if you could share the news! X

if you think about it, we all started as a whole gut(cell), then just start envolving a brain along it, it wasn't the brain who develop a gut but a gut who develop the brain.
What if all this time we've been wrong about who are us(we have been always told that it was our brain).
Also this could explain why some animals can live without brain, so it's not that don't have but we have gotten used to brain as intelligence but now we know the gut is also a brain

I think the microbiome is responsible for maintaining intestinal acidity which pushes gas out of the digestive system so if you don't have a healthy microbiome, then gas becomes trapped in your system and that's what causes low serotonin levels. It can be temporarily fixed by chugging an acidic beverage such as grapefruit juice.

Could the microbiome/brain connection be in part due to the "second brain" is directly influenced by the molecules that are created by the microbiome?
I suspect it is something like someone having a conversation with their friends and bringing the conversation to you. It isn't a direct influence but an influence none the less.

This will help determine the best diet, what prescriptions/vaccines are safe/needed and so much more. NDs and Functional MDs are ahead of the curve. Yet despite knowing that my gut health and genes are the root of my serious health problems I am still dealing with issues. It is hard to recover gut health in the modern world. Sigh.

So, a lot of the problems that we're running into is that we're dealing with a very different organism than humanity. I know that for a lot of radiation (and other) studies pigs are used as a closer analogue than mice, but I'm going to assume that primate studies are closer still due to the neurological architecture. Are there any planned further studies based on primates, and in particular introduction of human microbiota into species that don't normally carry those particular organisms?

I wonder if bacteria commonly present in the mouth could release chemicals that aim to limit the pain induced by the cavity they cause, which gives them a higher chance for survival since the person won't be as likely to to take measures to address it. Furthermore, it would have the indirect effect of negative reinforcement with oral hygiene since killing the bacteria by brushing your teeth would also stop the chemical release which would result in the pain of the cavity that would dissipate over time while the bacteria reproduced. Seems like a rational hypothesis to me, definitely testable.

I'm Dx Higher Functioning ASD (I still prefer Asperger Syndrome, but...DSM5). ASD individuals in general tend to have worse gut issues than others when at "healthy" status. No diseases, no injury, no allergies...We'll have IBS, gas, constipation and diarrhea before most others (again, who aren't already dealt a gastric blow by disease or trauma).
It's actually been a post-Dx symptom: "He's autistic. This is actually interesting. His behaviors, thoughts and actions brought us to a diagnosis which also has a high tendency to coexist with chronic gastric issues."
I bring this up because although other Tx will be developed directly for the CNS where the disorder takes its grip, and many will work wonders (or not...individuality at the neuron level is why there are several drugs for one symptom), it would be interesting to see if a supplement of "whatever's missing," or a control on "whatever's overabundant," or even a crossed treatment between gut stabilization and the CNS would show better results.
I'm Bipolar and ADHD as well, which is classic for where I'm at on the spectrum, so I might have a harder time lol
THE POINT IS, I would love to see this study bring results to help those in the moderate-functioning end of the spectrum where Autism is the primary issue in their behaviors; PDDNOS and Asperger Dx that have a much harder time with impulse control, emotional expression and social interaction...regardless how intelligent they might be. I'm doing well, and still have those issues too, but through my experience in special education...there's a "gap."
A lot of old friends and classmates of mine could have used something like this as Tx.
Next generation, right? lol

They should be looking into the dietary preferences of people with autism spectrum disorders and what it does to their gut biome. These ppl tend to like sugary/sweet foods and specific textures/consistencies. Excess sugar feeds a type of gut bacteria you don't want to proliferate too much and there are early findings that show ppl with autism have weak gut biomes because they have too many of these microbes and not enough of others.

She tells us that gut bacteria produce the majority of serotonin (5-tryptamine) and that this can affect are mood. How is this so as serotonin is a highly polar molecule? How would it get across the highly non-polar blood brain barrier? Are there active transport proteins in the barrier to conduct this peripherally serviced serotonin into the CNS? If so, then how is it delivered into the appropriate neurons? Could some psychiatric conditions arise from abnormal transport mechanisms?

I was searching in net, few years back, how to relieve stress or depression and found same studies as u did. Some gut bacteria can produce "toxic waste", that body has to fight it and has no energy to produce "good mood hormones".

What if it's that we rely on gut bacteria to help us process certain molecules out of our food, or create molecules that aren't actually directly present in most food. Our bodies make biochemicals out of different things we get from our diet, some "building blocks" might be a lot easier to make certain biochemicals out of [like how if you take "precursors" to a specific chemical our bodies synthesize that into the intended thing], so maybe part of why these bacteria have a symbiotic relationship with us is that they specifically digest food in our intestines and produce by-products that make our body's job easier when it comes to making certain compounds. Have we checked in on what the specific "waste" products are of these bacteria and what our body metabolizes those things into?

If you have severe dysbiosis like me due to antibiotic overprescription, then adding pre, probiotics and high fibre foods isn't going to be an immediate hit. The bad bacteria that has taken over are the gate keepers and they decide what can go in or not. You first need to kill the bad bacteria and then flood your system with good bacteria and pray to God that your gut biome will colonize correctly.

Quick --- potential solution answers: Stress of being handled when Germ-Free perhaps from a lack of Initially balanced stress levels because of a lack in having to deal with any early life infections (similar to how certain allergies can be mitigated or reduced by certain kinds of immune attacks by microbes [there was a study I can't remember where on how living/staying for extended periods of time near farms with obvious manure spreading practices in place meaning more inhanced airborne bacterial spreading]).
Secondly the next part of ''Lack of new environment stress'' could maybe be attributed like the first to a lack of early life infection, where (perhaps but not necessarily) my main aversion to certain types of travelling or travelling to specific locations would be 'Anticipated and Suspected' potential harm through new infections. Perhaps I am cognicant of the potential new infections and therefore they deter my travels, or perhaps it is somewhat pre-existing and induced in mice only if they were like myself infected early then placed in a new environment, since they can't intuit as well as we all can (I would imagine).

Eating food makes people feel good. Little food crumbs don't get pumped into your brain. The things that "eat" your food might not want to or be able to get inside your brain either. Doesn't mean that the byproducts don't fit. Example like sugar gets broken down into different pieces than fat. Except this list is incredibly complex not just two different things. Maybe out of the mix some things can only eat certain things so eating only explicitly one thing might help only certain things thrive. Maybe like a garden, feeding flowers. Certain foods grow certain flowers that react certain ways.

When I started a keto diet, there were a couple of days where I felt depleted. But the most interesting event were the incredibly vivid dreams I had about pasta, bread, sugar etc. I genuinely think that the dying bacteria I was depriving of sugar and carbs were signalling my brain to want those foods.
I would love to hear your experience.

So whenever I crave a certain type of food, it's because some bacteria in my gut that likes that kind of food is murdering all the other bacteria. That's nice to think about.

6:50 I caught an error. Less sensitive to insulin is a negative thing. If you lose weight it increases your sensitivity to insulin. If kurgesgaesagjfht was pairing a positive and a negative thing together they would likely have explained it in more detail.

I've often heard that the appetite of the mother during pregnancy affects the food preferences of the child. For example, while my mom had me, she had a big craving for tomatoes. My dad even had to buy a pack of them while she was in the hospital. I personally love both tomatoes and ketchup, even from my childhood. Could this be due to the bacteria and immune system being carried over from my mom?

You share a microbiome with everyone you live with as well; even pets 😳
The university hospital here in my state was working on a "poop pill" that could withstand the devastating environment of the stomach to fully "seed" the entire intestinal tract. Fecal transplants only get to about the last third of the colon; you need that (literally) shit all up in there. 🤭

I am coming back to this video after reading the chapter about the gut in your book immune. I still adore this video.. In the video it frames the bacteria h
as cute little neighbors who help us Digest nutrients And communicate with our brain for some reason. But in the book it goes a little bit more in depth on how it's a cold war. Basically saying that these bacteria take up space from worse invaders So keeping them in check and inside of your gut is easier than dealing with worse invaders yourself.

I never knew that gut bacteria were so important, but it makes sense when you think about it.
Millions of years of symbiotic relationship can create tons of new species that diverge from the existing ones, and it's only a matter of time before they integrate into everything else.
They probably originally got there just from being on some food so every animal species probably has one.

An observation at 5:56, it's said that "our microbiome has also been linked to other serious diseases, as autism". Autism isn't a disease (and that was mentioned on the video in the same sentence that included cancer), it's a disability. It's not considered a disease because it's not something to be cured. Autistic people may need more or less support in certain situations, but they also have their own way of being (specific interests, stims, personality) and if no one is being harmed by that, that's okay. I thought it'd be important to mention this, specially as an autistic woman.

you could base a story around this, like the bacteria are living in the gut, cultivating the intestinal villi, and just generally living peacefully there, and the WBCs are kinda there as these overlords who watch over the place and the bacteria notify them when something is amiss and so on, it sounds like it could be interesting.

Also the problem with the gastrointestinal microbiota is that they only work for us because they have not other choice. Unlike other areas where the flora simply exist harmlessly once you die this particular group turn on you and start literally melting you from the inside out, and are one of the very first causes of decomposition

few years ago I remember reading about a study involving c-section births leading to increased food allergies and in turn autoimmune diseases due to the very issue pointed out in the video - mom doesn't poop on you during a c-section. It also mentioned fecal transplants and I believe they even carried some out that lead to a decreased likelihood of developing food allergies/autoimmune disorders. In the same vein, but talking out my ass, I thought I read somewhere that food allergies and even autism are generally being considered as autoimmune disorders?

I think there is something to it. I never liked potatos since I was a little child. One day a friend of mine wanted to cook fried potatos. I did eat, since I had no choice and we did it for a few days in a row. I started liking it and now it is my second favorite food. And I started to like normal potatos as well. So after watching this I ate a banana (I hate bananas). We will see how this works out for my diet after a few months...

I know this video is super old now but after watching this now I'm wondering what's up with my bacteria since whenever I eat too much of something, I start to crave other things very quickly. I get sick of food very, very fast. I know I'm not the only one but if I have like... eggs for breakfast, I often find myself only having them at maximum for three days before I want something else. Is there a video on that I wonder? Wonder if maybe just people who vary their foods are just really good at ignoring their bacteria or something lol

Hey guys, you should do a video of dysbiosis and how it affects many systemic diseases, specially to the inmune system. Specifically around the recent discoveries of the report "Translocation of a gut pathobiont drives autoimmunity in mice and humans". Spoiler: its the Enterococcus Gallinarum.

Kudos to animators and whoever wrote the script, you're amazing.I knew eating habits are because of some kind of connection between our gut and brain and not tongue or taste (not directly atleast). It's those bacteria that are ordering pizza at 2 am and I think the bacteria are craving for some chocolate cake right now. This is gutception of cravings.

My microbiome craves four things in particular: sugar, grain, protein (preferably poultry or fish) and dairy (particularly cheese and chocolate). Luckily, most of the stuff I eat has fruits and vegetables mixed in with these things.

I’m working on a bacterial project, so I gathered grass and dirt and put them in water, then I should wait for 2 or more weeks, then I should take a sample and look at the sample under my microscope, and I’ll see a bunch of organisms!

I swear, although I do eat more junk than I should, at least SOME of my microbiome must be kinda smart, because whenever I'm sick and I haven't eaten in a while, it's like the junk-food "voice" gets overridden and it's like "No. Am dying. Need nutrients. Now." and I reach for a proper meal. I'm imagining the health-food bacteria yelling into the microphone like "SURVIVAL MODE. THIS IS NOT A DRILL!" or something. :P

Is this why, when I have a takeaway that's a bit greasy and nasty, I have stomach and what feels like intestinal pain the next day? I rarely drink and I eat healthily with enough proteins and healthy fats to support my very active job and lifestyle. I think the "Bad food bacteria" theory is well placed in how I feel after eating shit food as my regular diet always keeps me in good spirits and smiling!
No more bad food, no more bad bacteria. Sounds good to me!

A Whole Food Plant Based diet is ideal for your microbiome. It is important to eat a wide variety of whole plant foods for fiber (pre-biotics) to get the healthiest microbiome possible. When you feed the beneficial microbes, they grow and crowd out the dangerous ones.

This is why a diets vary affect each person; it's not one size fits all. However, moderation is still important; eating too much of one thing and less of another may influence what microbes can help digest properly.

Happy to see this short on the microbiome. I would be even happier if you change the graphics of the food held by the people. Only 2 "whole" foods appear; the apple and the watermelon. The rest appeared to be fast food; which definitely aren't feeding the gut microbes well. Also, can you change the lollypop in both places? I believe that soda pop consumption outranks lollypop consumption as a source of simple sugars and in the rise of chronic illness. Maybe you could use the soda pop container with the straw previously drawn. I think the dialogue and image would be clearly understood by kids.

Your body produces more than a liter of mucus every day, and when you’re sick, it can be hard to miss. But what exactly is mucus? And what does it do, besides making you miserable? Katharina Ribbeck reveals the mysteries of this transparent, shape-shifting layer that moistens and lubricates the vulnerable parts of our body while rendering us invisible to potentially deadly microbes.
Lesson by Katharina Ribbeck, animation by Anton Bogaty.

I have a condition where my body mass produces tons of mucus. I breathe thru my mouth more than my nose regardless the time of year. It's REALLY annoying. Still, I very rarely get sick, my tolerance for things that burn my stomach is high, and I've learned to breathe sooo shallow and calmly from dealing with blocked sinuses since childhood that I can play dead amazingly. Idk what this condition is, but I kinda enjoy it

Great video and Great Animation! Just wondering, when we are not suffering from cold, how is used mucus discarded? I thought it was dissolved by acids in the stomach. But the video mentioned that mucus helps protect stomach lining from acids. So, it would probably be unaffected by acids? Or is mucus in stomach lining different from that in our nose?

I’m watching because I’m interested in learning how to help my body stimulate healthy mucus. Because when I had Covid 19 I had incredibly dry eyes for about 5 days. And I had digestive complications. It’s as if I was experiencing a lack of lubrication in different areas of my body.
How can we stimulate good healthy mucus? I mean, aside from the obvious e.g. drinking tons of water?
I did invest in a collagen powder supplement and ate gelatin. Is there better ways to get fluids flowing more quickly following an infection?

Such a intricate process taking place in all of our bodies. Millions of bacteria working 27/7 throughout our life just to keep us alive, so we can have an alive experience. It's just truly magnificent and wonder. And, if I'm the body as the science say then I'm conducting all these intricate process consciously or unconsciously. And, if I'm not doing this then who else is conducting these process? Body? But, aren't "I" the body? If "No" then who am I?

When I was a kid and I was sick, I would have my nose unclogged but when it clogged I called it a “mucus attack” So when I was with my friends and I said “IM HAVING A MUCUS ATTACK!” So I went to the bathroom because my friends aren’t there and happily threw away all the mucus from my body and cleaned my nose and I went outside like nothing happened. I would do this every 5-10 minutes. Never gets old, now thanks to this video I appreciate my mucus and I won’t throw it away ever again :)

So if mucus acts as a filter to get rid of infections, if I take medicine such as a suppressant, does that mean I halted and delayed the filter process because the mucus is now suppressed? 🤔

What if your nose creates too much mucus even though you arent sick. I tried not eating dairy for two weeks, started drinking a lot of warm water, tried humidifying the air, removed all rugs, dont have pets, no trees around me. Also tried notti pot (running water through my nose), doing gargle (few times per day). My mucus just wont stop running and sitting on my throat making me cough.

While it may be true that mucus is a good thing and helps prevent infection, mucus is not always a good thing. I have asthma and for people like me, mucus can be a really bad day. So for those who have stated that medications such as Mucinex may be bad for you because it reduces the amount of mucus already in your body, too much mucus in an asthmatic persons lungs can be deadly! In the event of an asthmatic "flare-up", the airways are already extremely inflamed and restricted. When mucus heavily coats the airways and lungs, it makes it even more of a struggle to breathe. I am not saying there aren't any possible complications with taking Mucinex too much or for too long. But on the other hand, I don't think many people take Mucinex unless there is too much mucus in an unfavorable location, such as the lungs or maybe even the nasal passages.

I gargle warm salt water 3 times a week but it doesn't help my wet cough. I might have GERD but my dry, but mostly wet cough with excessive phlegm really wakes me up when I sleep. I don't have heartburn but I cough dry and wet (with white phlegm) after I eat foods that trigger it. I don't smoke or drink alchohol (never in my life actually) but really this persistent bothers me and I can't give up all of those triggering foods all the time. Help me. I'm 26 y o

Here's a (disgusting) question--is booger-eating unhealthy or is it actually healthy (kind of recycling the "good" bacteria & proteins)? Or do "boogers" contain more dead than alive good bacteria? Think that boogers could contain dust, dirt & germs, ergo unhealthy, but if someone out there has info on this queasy topic, it'd be fascinating.

Explore how your immune system’s vast network of cells, tissues, and organs coordinate your body’s defenses against bacteria, viruses and toxins.
--
The immune system is a vast network of cells, tissues, and organs that coordinate your body’s defenses against any threats to your health. Without it, you’d be exposed to billions of bacteria, viruses, and toxins that could make something as minor as a paper cut or a seasonal cold fatal. So how does it work? Emma Bryce takes you inside the body to find out.

A lot of people these days rely on antibiotics so much for even such a minor infection like Rhinitis that their bodies have become resistant to the oncoming viruses/bacteria . This is video is so good for those people to understand how immune system is capable of doing it's work .

First, another amazing video. I love how you make it both educational and entertaining, keeping my attention and making it enjoyable. Second, I have a question. I was in jail for an extended period, I made a mistake and I'm not proud of it, and the medical treatment wasn't the best. Their answer for everything was a 10 day round of antibiotics. In just one year I did 13 - 10 day treatments, and this was just 1 of 4.5 years. During 1 month I was doing 2 rounds of antibiotics, 1 from the nurse and 1 from the dentist, at the same time. I tried to explain that I'm not suppose to take double doses of antibiotics or take so many so often, but that never got anywhere except that I would be locked down and loss of good time if I refused to take them. Long story short, I now have a weak immune system and have issues with folliculitis, psoriasis, allergies, etc etc. Issues I've never had before my prison stay. My question, how can I rebuild my immune system quickly and efficiently, and can my body bounce back to its previous healthiness? Anyone with any answers or suggestions are more than welcome to reply.

To all you suicidal folks out there: Even if you feel no know loves you or cares for you remember this, that your body loves you much more and that it wants you to stay alive and see another day. It fights for even if you don't ask for it. It does everything in its hands to save you and keep you alive cause it loves you. Don't lose hope cause if you ever alone, sad, depressed think about your body and how it's been there for ever since your birth. Most people won't, but it will be there by your side.

"When the body comes into contact with a disease-causing germ for the first time, it usually stores information about the germ and how to fight it, thanks to adaptive our immunity. As a result, our immune system's response would be much faster because it would be able to recognize the germs right away."

I remember learning about antibodies when I was like seven years old. I cannot believe I forget such basic information over time. To keep this very basic information about the immune system alive in my memory I will make a note here.
Antibodies are proteins produced to the body to destroy invading cells. They are due to the work of B and T Cells. B and T Cells identify antigens they can use that information so that they can swiftly respond and deploy antibodies when a threat revisits. That is how the human body can develop immunity to certain diseases, like chickenpox.
Autoimmune diseases trick the body into attacking their own cells.

My body shivered when I read that saying you quote at the beginning, 1400 years ago Islam's prophet has said "As believers are for each other in their connection, mercy and kindness as the body, if one organ is hurt, the whole body stayed up at night and showed symptoms of sickness". Showing the need for unity for believers as how the body units when an organ is unwell.

I have an inquiry to:
-can you make a video on how exercise helps our immune system. Certain people have a notion that when we exercise intensely (maybe moderately) enough to sweat, the heat generated kills off any pathogens & the likes. I feel it's an exaggeration, so it's not entirely wrong.
-secondly, does this video mean to imply that sickle cell patients have weaker immune systems? Or is there something else that makes them so vulnerable? I need to understand these things better.
Thank you

Do you have a clip showing that shows what happens in folks such as myself who have undergone an organ transplant and that are on a medication to prevent anti-bodies from doing what they do in normal healthy people?

I have survived pneumonia when I was a child there was so many cells sacrificing there life just to defeat the infection but now I got another pneumonia I will thank those cells who sacrificed themselves just to protect my body❤️🩹♥️

Well the immune system also owes us its life; it would have never been there without us being there.

I didn’t know the human body is so complicated. It wouldn’t make sense if this was only the the result of random genetic mutations accumulated over millions of years as I was taught in school. It looks more like a system being designed by an intelligent being.

The Thymus make has to make sure that all the T-cells don't affect the body from the inside. Only 2% survive. Autoimmune disease is when T-cells escape the Thymus and attacks your own cells. But, if you're still a kid it's fine because once you reach puberty, your Thymus is constantly shrinking.

The size of the antibodies are massively not to scale, the antibodies latch on to the bacteria or virus which can stop it attacking human cells and stop it replicating.
