century and if not he's at least in the 0:15 conversation but will Chin's life was a mix of wild mths and gargantuan 0:22 Feats none more striking than the one he pulled off on a cold and dreary winter 0:27 night in Hershey Pennsylvania in 1962 this incredible season in which 0:33 Wilt averaged over 50 points per game reached its Zenith in the Hershey Arena 0:39 before just over 4,000 fans what they saw down on the floor was an Unstoppable 0:45 basketball Force 25-year-old wil Chamberlain at the height of his powers 0:52 never believe that anyone would score 100 points in one ball game it was done tonight I will cam it on the airplane 0:58 we've been talking that day about um will chain but he's going to score 100 1:04 points against somebody pretty soon and we get off the airplane and the first 1:09 stop was the Bellman hey did you guys hear what will did tonight no he scored 1:15 100 points tonight and that's sort of is something 1:21 that you they talk about things that won't be broken I can assure you that won't be broken I once performed in that 1:26 Arena it's in Hershey Pennsylvania and all I could think about a locker room was this was the lock room that that wil 1:31 was in when he scored 100 points How could somebody score 100 points in a game wow to Invision somebody to score 1:40 100 points and I didn't do it I had not had an hour sleep not even a moment I 1:47 lived in New York City I had to commute from New York to Philadelphia to get your plus around 11: clock and anyone 1:54 knew me at that time I had a Sonia AC and I never really went to B before 4:5 in in the morning plus it was toward the 2:00 end of the season and I had a date that day that night before and so uh you know every Everything led to me not having a 2:05 night a night's sleep I remember getting into the bus going to Hershey from Philadelphia and said oh am I tired 2:11 nobody wanted to go to Hershey players didn't want to play there it was a home game played away on the road so 2:17 everybody was a little annoyed to begin with we get to Hershey about 2 or 3:00 in the afternoon they were the hotel 2:23 supposed to go to and stay in because we didn't do those kind of things in those days now there was no Hotel course to 2:28 stay because we saved Mone in those days you didn't stay at hotels you went right to the radar and spent four or 5 hours 2:34 it was kind of a slapstick night I remember to the locker room the locker room was terrible it was just a big room a lot of 2:43 brown benches set against the wall and you had a row of wooden planks on the 2:48 wall with spikes out of them that the players just hung their clothes on it was very 2:55 auster the shower room was small I think there were two or three shower heads for all of us it was a hell hole but for 3:04 three games a year it was home for the Warriors they didn't get rooms for us back then and you know and it wasn't 3:10 like the NBA is today uh so we just kind of walking around aimlessly in uh there 3:16 was a hallway in the back hallway in the back the back and Will was actually playing uh went to a penny arcade and he 3:25 was shooting U the gun and he told me afterwards he said that he was really 3:31 hot he said that he was you know mowing everything down it started to be a magical night from the beginning will 3:38 loved to go whenever he went to her she loved to go into the arcade must have put $3 and quars in he was shooting clay 3:46 pigeons and he couldn't miss and I start shooting rifles and so on so forth and I couldn't miss anything said one of my 3:53 closest friends Ike Richmond he had talked to the guy out the door had worked in the arena for 20 years and said the highest numbers ever post 3:59 posted here was such and such a thing so he would bet me that I couldn't beat that but I just blew all those numbers 4:05 away binging binging so if it was ever a clue that I was going to have a high day 4:10 this was definitely the the clip that could have been an indication of something unusual is going to happen 4:16 inight so it's game 75 of an 80 Game season they're just playing out the 4:22 string at this point right the Knicks are a last place team they're not going anywhere they're going to finish 29 with 4:28 29 wins and 51 Los losses the Warriors are going to go to the playoffs but they're too many games behind the 4:34 Celtics to catch them hardly anybody there probably about 4,500 people maybe not even 5,000 people at the game uh no 4:42 reporters from uh any of the major media uh they are just the guy from the local 4:47 paper and uh will scores 100 points before 4,000 mesmerized fans on March 4:54 2nd 1962 Will Chamberlain played in the clouds the seven one Center lifted his 5:01 game Beyond reach of any NBA player in history I had a good shooting for half I 5:06 remember scoring some like 41 points by halftime of that unusual night wil 5:12 scored 41 although that figure hardly raised an 5:17 eyebrow Wilt scored so many points and so many games that year that I didn't 5:23 even know how many points he had I was shooting out of Realms I know don't shoot it I usually stay much in in the 5:30 post turn around f with jump shots but I was shooting jump shots from a little the top of key and running around I was really hitting very very well his shot 5:37 off the backboard that night I'd say en counter for most of his points every one of his Speedways hit up high on the 5:42 board hit the rim F fell in he was just shooting a phenomenal percentage opposing players including Bill Russell 5:50 wanted him to take that shot because he's falling away from the basket and he's not going to get the rebound Wilt 5:56 didn't like the idea that people thought he was a great player only because he was so tall he wanted to prove that 6:02 there was more to him than just that so he he would take this fallway shot 6:08 falling away from the basket shooting over his right shoulder banking it in he didn't want did not want to be 6:14 considered a great player because he was big he did not like the dunk he felt any big guy can dunk Etc like that he had a 6:23 like to position himself on the left hand side of the court in the pivot close pivot and the ball would come in 6:30 and he would fade away and play a jump shot about a 12 15t jump shot off the 6:36 board that was his favorite shot and when he was hitting that was almost impossible to stop right because he was 6:42 so big falling away and with his jumping and everything and he was hitting that very well the only way he could stop it 6:48 was prevent him from getting the ball which is not easy when a guy is that big and strong 7 ft one in tall and as 6:56 athletic as any man who ever walked the Earth you tried guarding that on a basketball 7:02 court sometime the level of on the playing field I think is uh more even now than 7:07 it was then not to say that you know he did it against some scrubs cuz that's still a tough 7:12 accomplishment to score 100 on anyone but uh I think once a guy gets 60 or 70 7:17 you going to start seeing triple teams uh I think it'd be tough for a guy to get 80 you know let alone 100 so you 7:23 know what bother me about that what's that a team has no Pride if a guy was 7:28 roasting me be like that number one I'd be in the locker room cuz I've been flagrant following him like you would 7:34 not want a guy it's embarrassing when a guy just roast you and we're talking about if a guy scored 30 or 40 points on 7:41 you should be embarrassed at what point do you start the flagrant fouls when he hits 70 something or no I think you 7:46 start around 3540 oh cuz if a guy got that many points in the first half you 7:51 think that they don't play like that anymore no but Chuck do I think we'll ever see somebody score 100 points again no just cuz it it's so competitive now 7:58 that guys will won't allow it to happen you know you might have 98 and guys are like not allowing you to score 100 so 8:05 guys feel that when you get 50 no but when you have 55 and you got flagrant fouled on you're not going to be punked 8:12 out of still playing hard you still going to get 55 no but I what you it makes you think like the when you going 8:18 up your jump shot you don't have no free mind well when guys like run through your body and knock the hell out of you 8:24 nobody could really stop him and everybody tried the hard way to stop him they tried to kill him will was in the 8:29 pivot playing defense and the fellow whom he was playing came back with an elbow and caught Wilt right in the teeth 8:36 I thought all his teeth were knocked out and I looked on the floor I couldn't find his teeth anywhere what had 8:42 happened his teeth were pushed back up into his head all you could see is the guns he missed one game because of that 8:49 what he brought to the players in the league was the knowledge that they would have to get a baseball bat as the only 8:55 way they could intimidate a will he could take it he was like a fighter who could take take a punch any of you who 9:00 have played basketball know it's a rough sport played professionally it is a murderous game because if they can't 9:07 block his shots they give him the elbow on the side right that's right hoping not to get caught at I don't know if you 9:13 know Richie Garen you know ex-marine tough guy don't 9:19 ever talk to him about this game but you go is a tough character and I have 9:25 nothing but the highest uh respect for him especially if he's waiting outside 9:30 is the US Marine he would take a step back from nobody and he did not want to 9:35 see World score 100 points Richie says kind of like in just he says the big 9:41 Fell's going for 100 tonight the Nick for some OD reason 9:47 follows though that I was going to try to break a record against them and they did not want that to happen they said 9:53 not against us is he going to break a record and so they decided to put a game plan to Wing the game out of the bag and 9:59 just try to stop will chamblin but what sort of a defense do they use against you well they tried manto man and gang 10:05 guarding me with two or three men I heard one team had what they thought was the perfect defense against you they 10:11 locked the dressing room door in the second half the Knick's 10:16 double triple quadrupled wi New York's got three men in front of them they're R 10:21 around too once we realized that he was scoring so many points you know we don't 10:27 want him to sit wless against us our strategy was anytime the ball goes into will let's follow him he was awesome 10:34 from the foul line that night bing bing like it was romatic 28 for 32 was Unreal 10:40 good God sometimes would take him 10 games to hit 28 three throws that was really the impetus for his having a 10:46 great game the crowd got into the game in the second half very much by start to chant we won 100 and they started their 10:52 chant about my 60th point or so when he got into the 70s then it started getting louder the fans started going a little 10:58 more crazy and you know everybody was just rooting every basket the place was just bedum chamber 71 he's within two of 11:06 the records the excitement was the fact that Chamberlain had 73 in a regular 11:11 game and 78 in an overtime game when he got into the 60s I decided to alert the 11:18 PA announcer and Dave zinov I think we ought to call every point that will gets 11:23 over the PA system Harvey Pollock leans over to the PA announcer 11:29 zof the zinc as he was known here's an announcement by Dave 11:39 Zin zinov says ladies and gentlemen a new scoring record has been set by wi 11:45 Chamberlain he has 79 points history being written tonight in Hershey the big 11:52 man is broken the record and he's gone for more you know what's in the fans mind they're thinking of the magic 11:57 number 100 people started cross chaining for 100 well by that time I was really 12:02 exhausted and had started stop having a good night I started to miss even I got to the foul onine one time I missed my 12:09 usual two in a row and I said to myself Jesus Christ what what a way to mess up a good good night saying I might not 12:15 make another another foul shot the rest the night and I was really tired the people to how we want 100 we want 100 I 12:21 don't think any of us realize that Wilt was on that much of a tear it's not uncommon for Wilt to get 70 75 6 points 12:29 that year so you got used to it and I don't think I was aware of how many points he had until the end of the game 12:36 it was just one of those games and I don't and we didn't make a conscious effort control what people think we did 12:41 not make a conscious effort to get the ball to well till late sink was doing the game and somewhere along the line he 12:49 started shouting off every Point Chamberlin 4 two and now it's starting 12:55 to plug in here but thing about this is plugging in with all the Warriors people 13:00 also playing all the Nica people the thing that I really began to reflect on 13:06 as a 100 point game was that the other team being the Knicks were trying their best to keep me from scoring any points 13:11 at all they would do things like foul the other my other team teammates they would freeze the ball for as long as they could they would do all sorts of 13:16 dumb things they wer even trying to win the game they were trying to keep me from scoring 100 New York was freezing the ball and had you just walked into 13:23 the game and not realize what was going on you'd say here here's a team they're losing by 15 points and they're freezing 13:30 the ball they wanted to use time so couldn't score in fact it got so ridiculous at at one stretch where they 13:37 were deliberately fouling us when we got the ball in bounds to keep the clock from running and I was embarrassed you 13:43 know basically playing in a game like that niers just start for tiing the 13:50 niers and while they were freezing it we were fing them so that we get the ball back and then consequently when we did 13:57 get the ball back they were trying to foul our yards before the ball could get into W but my teammates once they got 14:03 the ball made sure they couldn't get foul they ran in positions where he couldn't be and got me the ball under 14:09 any circumstances in the second half the team decided that maybe they can get 100 so they were feeding him constantly we 14:16 were going for 100 his record was our record and then we all realized that 14:21 this was this was going to happen and um it was comical because from that point 14:28 on uh all the shots went to wilt all the passes went to wilt and 14:35 the and everybody on the uh Knicks team tried to get the ball to any player 14:42 except W they would foul anybody they just tried their best uh to keep the 14:48 ball away from wil and he was not going to go for it we would finally we wound up throwing the ball from out of bounds 14:54 all the way down the court to wilt Wilt gets 96 he gets 98 thei with the ball down the right side 15:01 passes to Chamberlain he's open he shoots he score Chamberlain 98 SC for 1 we started 15:10 to get excited the last several minutes of the game I think really they want to see me score the 100 a lot more I ever 15:16 than I ever anticipated I mean they did things that were incredible and they made a special concert effort to get 15:22 that ball to me above and beyond the call my teammates were really the real 15:29 Heroes of the 100 point game and I'm not saying that because it's really a nice thing to Pat your teammates on the back 15:35 or or give them the credits without them deciding that they want to see will 15:40 tamin score 100 points I don't think they did it for selfish reasons of of uh they want to be a part of history or Al 15:47 or whatever I I think that they were showing me that really they respected 15:53 what I had did all year long and this would be the icing on the c one minute 15:59 and 1 second to play at 98 points Rogers throws one to Chamberlain he's got it he 16:05 took a twoand set shot from half court on the left side and almost went 16:12 in because he did that in practice and he was pretty good at it I think he learned that when he was with the 16:18 Trotters he shoot so good the rebound lcking bille and I got that rebound and 16:23 he came up and set up and I got him the ball and he took that little fadeaway jump and that didn't work back to 16:29 Chamberlain he shoots up no good in and out the rebound Ling Bell back to Ruck 16:35 Richie Garen uh came flying at me ready to about to tackle me and now here comes 16:42 Richie Garen bearing down unluckly and he's got fumes he is furious this is not 16:48 going to happen at the same moment that will bumped his man off his hiip gave me the 16:56 signal which was woo and uh for that second he was open and I got the ball to 17:01 wil before Garen hit me lucky for me Wil was open he bumps the guy off of his hip 17:08 and there he is I threw in the ball Boom the rest is history back to Ruck in the 17:14 chamber he made it he made it a he made it fans are all over the floor I sto the 17:22 game people are running out on the court 100 points the w i St the game 17:30 people are drowning pounding him banging him the Warrior players are all over him 17:36 band are coming out of the stand 46 seconds left the most amazing scoring 17:42 performance of all time 100 points for the big 17:47 difference it was like watching some sort of a natural cataclysmic disaster 17:53 maybe you know an earthquake or uh or you know a flood of some sort was 17:59 magnificent after we scored he ran back to be on def on defense by the time he 18:05 he got front of midcourt the fans already started coming out in the court the people that were there just rushed 18:11 to court it was a wild scene it must have been 46 or 47 seconds remaining in 18:18 the game people just ran out of the stand just to touch will and there's two 18:23 things that I talk about when I talk about that game that are that are most important number one we won the game 18:30 contrary to popular belief a lot of people and the other thing is Wil tried 18:36 to come out of the game before he got to 100 points because the game was one and 18:41 many people say well he was trying to rub it in he was not trying to rub it in three or four weeks earlier to that 18:47 Frank Maguire had said to the Press well one day soon wil will probably score 100 100 points Frank M had two 18:55 rules the offense always went through realt and Wilt never left the floor but Frank 19:02 Maguire act like he didn't know wil when wil was trying to come out of the game he kept looking away from him and Will 19:08 was tired and wanted to come out of the game did you start to like at at 85 points did you start to feel bad a 19:13 little bit absolutely and the people I'll just try and miss this one 100 points I did that I know I did did that 19:19 then my mother scolded me when I got home you be shaming yourself you know it was it was not an easy night no because 19:25 I a lot of friends on the knck the old locker rooms where we were sitting and was sitting next to me and he used to 19:30 sweat profusely and he was reading the stat sheet and you know guy and Tom and 19:36 myself and a few of us we were very very happy that you know he scored 100 points and he was the only guy who had this 19:42 down look on his face and I'm wondering I said big fellow what's the matter what are you upset about he said well I never 19:48 thought I'd take 60 shots in the ball game and we in my Infinite Wisdom say yeah but you made 36 of them so we'll 19:54 take that any day a week I grabbed a piece of paper wrote The 100 so walked over to wil I said wil you see the sign 20:02 that indicates what you did here tonight and thear was going to take a picture of you and say hey great 20:10 idea it's arguably the most important photograph of basketball ever I shook 20:17 his hand I saw him holding that piece of paper but there was no wild celebration it was just not that big a deal the 20:24 feeling is terrific regret when will tler scored 100 points in the New York Knicks I don't think SI gave me that 20:31 much space I wasn't on on the cover the next next week but no one was there that night there was no video there was no TV 20:37 it was still done though it it still done can you believe that one of the greatest Feats maybe the greatest feat in sports history he scores 100 points 20:44 in Hershey Pennsylvania in one game there's no camera there yeah that is the 20:49 most incredible thing that's ever happened in uh Indoor Sports the audience wants to congratulate you we 20:55 want to congratulate you and uh tell you how pleased we are to have you on our show tonight thank you thank you very 21:02 very much world hasn't received all the credit for setting the example that he 21:07 set in his life I want to thank [Applause] 21:13 him for those of us who had an opportunity to play with him and know him as a person um I just can't say 21:21 enough great things about him and you know Wilder's taken so many bad RS from you know in terms of public 21:29 relations he was one of the nicest guys in the world and he treated me a rookie 21:35 uh with a great deal of respect and I thought he was just a fine guy I had I had no problem the year we won the 21:41 championship here will uh came to a function that they had for me and he 21:47 gave me a basketball and he had a quote on it he had it made up and quote is to Al who 21:54 did all the right things at the wrong time because I didn't miss a shot that night in n yards it's very very simple 22:02 if Five Guys play one man you should get open once in a while so what happened is 22:07 you know I was just kind of sneaking around a little bit and go play wil go play wil you five go over there and give me a basket once in a while wil didn't 22:14 like the 100o game for a long time he thought it fed the belief that he was 22:21 interested only in padding his own statistics it wasn't until later in life that will came to embrace it it was 22:28 almost like a father and son estranged you know coming back together so scoring 22:33 100 points in the game was a great great feat and I really think of it that it 22:39 was an exhibition of great art and skill and that's the way I've always remembered it people say will they say 22:45 100 point so I would guess this is the biggest game you know that I ever ever had I was just so glad they did to 22:52 somebody else and not us oh I said boy that could have been me 22:58 cuz he was that tent he was so dominant uh and so impossible to stop wil was 23:04 bound to score 100 points whether it was going to be that season or some other season in the future they come to a game 23:10 and the people came to the game they said well he's capable of scoring 100 points and every night they were looking 23:15 for 100 100 points at the end of his epic night a tired Will Chamberlain actually hitched a ride back to his New 23:22 York apartment with several nick players and so I I fall sleep immedately I'm just really really tired but every time 23:28 they put it comes to a to Booth you know they stop and I wake up and I can hear these guys talking they saying can you 23:35 believe that so got 100 points against us and then I kind of like fall back to sleep again and I wake up again and they 23:41 spent the whole trip talking about the 100 points and how they I should be ashamed of myself what I did to 23:48 themar you know and so when I got to when I got to my apartment they live they let let me off I said to him hey 23:54 thanks guys I'm really sorry about that on your points I didn't really mean it you know he came up with Willie 24:00 NS and Johnny green and will said that he had to sit in the back of his car and 24:06 he act like he was sleep the whole time going back to New York because he said they they threatened to throw him out 24:12 the car at some point coming down from Pennsylvania so they were really very embarrassed about the whole thing M 24:19 understand and so they were mad at me you know and I was just out just want to have fun I'm surprised they even want of 24:24 them in the car you know here's a guy who's got 100 points against me blew my brains out and I riding back in my car 24:31 I'm taking them back to New York and I immediately fell asleep and while I'm falling asleep and we hit a toll road 24:36 stop I kind to wake up and I can hear them saying can you believe that so got 100 points against us and the whole 24:43 conversation for 2 and half hours with them calling me these names finally they dropped me off at my house first and I 24:49 get out of the car I said hey fellas thanks for the work you know and I'm so sorry about that 100 24:56 points I said I mean I didn't really need to be so but what the hell I know it seems like a a miracle 25:03 number to a lot of other people but I could have score 100 a number of other other times but if I had a better day 25:08 and had a better cause I believe it would been more important to me but you know time you take averaging 50 points a 25:14 game to me that was phenomenal to go out on the court and say hey in order for me to hit my average I have to score 50 25:20 tonight and if I score anything under 50 then I'm really not doing what I'm supposed to be doing when I made the 100 25:26 points I was averaging over 50 games so it was like doubling your your average you know and I was not that impressed at 25:31 the time but as I look at it and remember how hard those guys tried to keep me from scoring all those points uh 25:37 I I kind of chuckle we love to tell stories like that stories that may not 25:43 sound true even if they often were and that's what's so perfect about 25:49 that night he scored 100 points because all the mystery surrounding the truth 25:54 has always kept people wondering how it happened will would always talk about how there 26:00 was no film of a lot of things he did and he always mentioned the 100 point game I used to hate the fact there was 26:05 no video of But as time goes on I think it kind of adds to the Mystique of of the game you know you saw Kobe have the 26:12 81 against the Toronto Raptors in LA but I mean 100 points it's it's hard to 26:18 Fathom that it's hard to put it into words uh just how impressive that is so um I think it is a uh uh you know 26:24 something that'll never be uh surpassed and nobody will ever have upwards of 100 points again uh I don't think every 26:31 anybody's would ever catch with with 100 that's just that's just different I 26:36 really don't see a 100 point game ever happening again I don't see anybody doing it hearing that somebody to score 26:43 100 points in a game as a player you never feel like that's attainable as 26:48 much as we got confidence in ourselves 100 points is a lot of points to score in a regulation game it's just like 26:55 hearing Zeus you know it's just that that leg that myth I struggle when when 27:01 people say well who who score 100 points again I don't care who he scored 100 points again to score 100 points in an 27:07 NBA basketball game you're pretty good you're pretty good if I were to score 27:13 100 points it would probably be me bunch of ver a bunch of preschoolers it was 27:18 never going to be broken whatever going to do that I will 27:23 ask myself was he playing by himself or was he playing against the other five hasn't had it do unimaginable basically 27:31 I can't even imagine seeing anybody do that it's kind of like Legend I wish I could have seen 27:55 it I never want to demean the points but I've had so many better games I will say 28:02 this if New York Mick had played basketball and worri about winning the game I probably had 150 points see after 28:09 scoring 41 points in the first half he exploded for 59 more in the second half 28:15 he took 63 shots made 36 of them what might be most impressive is that 28:20 Chamberlain was a career 51% free throw shooter and he hit 28 of his 32 free 28:26 throws will anybody ever score points in a game can't score 100 points in a game 28:31 I I disagree you think so I think somebody could score 100 in a game only because it's small ball now you know who 28:37 can do it Klay Thoms can do it man had 61 points with 11 dribbles he was 40 28:43 short but but but 39 points he was 4 28:48 short man I'm saying and Kobe had the 81 he was 19 points yeah I feel like Klay 28:54 would have guided if he played all four quarters uh as especially after having that 30 plus third quarter I think I had 29:01 a shot at it back 2016 you know 16 29 minutes but I still 40 points away that 29:07 is incredible that means I had to play the rest of the game and go for 40 and I 29:14 that it's hard to even process how he did that he was facing double and triple teams but that record will never be 29:20 broken Will Chamberlain is a Timeless Talent he could play in any era and be the best athlete on the floor we 29:27 whatever 100 points in the NBA game again why would it I mean I I think in time I think that day will come somebody 29:33 will do it eventually it's going to happen I suppose it could theoretically happen but will there ever be another 29:41 will chambering that's great it's great sight Al happy to see wil 29:48 here absolutely not 30:22 he blocked the shot that time he got the hook shot but Lou keeps it back Chamberlain tonight he blocked another 30:28 one yes it can happen I believe that a great basketball player on a good night 30:34 for him or a hot night for him can score 100 points I believe that sincerely I believe the other records I have that 30:40 they may have a hard time ever taking a look at 30:46 [Music] Foobas Sports 46.6K Unbreakable 22.9 Rebounds for a Career or 50.4 points per game in a Season. Scoring 100 points in a Game, or getting 55 Rebounds in a Single game. Scoring 65 or More points 15 Times, and 50 or More points 118 Times. Good Luck with Anyone Breaking Those Records. This Man was The Goat🐐Evidently. 124 Reply 79 replies @michaelsack9981 1 year ago The comment at the end was spot on. “Wilt could play in any era and be the best athlete on the floor.” 84 Reply 1 reply @ar7pr219 1 year ago There has NEVER been a player in NBA history who did anything remotely close to what Wilt Chamberlain did in their first 7 seasons. He gets drafted by the Warriors, who previously won only 32 games and were the worst shooting team in the league (and then worst overall in defense), and guides them to the East Finals 3 times in 5 years, including twice giving the franchise their best RS record at the time. After Wilt gets traded midseason to the Sixers in 65, the Warriors IMMEDIATELY fell right back to being the worst shooting team in the league. So now he enters the Sixers, a team that won only 34 games the year before, who were second worst in shooting and also in most points allowed by opponents defensively. Wilt takes that pathetic gang of clowns all the way to the East Finals only to lose a game 7 by one point. The following year he still took that sorry group of suckers back to the East Finals after giving them the best RS record for the first time ever. You can't name another player in NBA history who inherited such putrid squads and gave them that amount of team success for consecutive seasons, especially ones with piss poor shooting, bottom feeding defense, and mediocre coaching to the Conference Finals a total of 5 times in their first 7 years in the league. And despite Wilt's teammates collectively shooting laughably bad averages of .382, .380, .354, .354, 352, and .332 combined during those postseason runs, his teams only lost every elimination game by mere single digits. On top of that, Wilt is still the only player to average 30/20/.500 for a single and multiple postseasons, the only player to average 30/30 in a playoff series, and the only player to drop 50+ points multiple times in playoff games facing elimination (and won them all). Simply put, Chamberlain was just another level. His impact on team success as just one guy was LIGHTYEARS ahead of Russell, Kareem, Jordan, Shaq, LeBron, Steph or anybody else you want to throw in there. 119 Reply 43 replies @K-xb2qz 1 year ago I like how Wit explains how it wasnt easy to score 100 like even some NBA players think it was They double teamed and tripled teamed him. Is our own personal nostalgia or recency bias so strong that we can't even truly consider the greats who came before us? Listen, if a man averaged 50 points and 25 rebounds in today's game, the sports world would be losing their minds. We've become so accustomed to the numbers that Wilt put up that we tend to sweep Wilt's accomplishments under the rug like it doesn't mean anything or it didn't even happen. It's so long ago and most of us didn't actually see it, so it doesn't resonate with us. But the reality is a man scores 💯 points in a single game by himself against other pro basketball players and actual people witness it and are amazed by it. A man averaged 50 points for a season and 38 points as a rookie, there was a man who dominated his opponents statistically more than any other player in NBA history and it's not even close. Players today don't care about defense. And they aren't going to foul out of the game to stop someone. New York's team only had so many fouls to give that night. New York's center Imhoff fouled out. 4 other players had 5 fouls. They only had 8 players total for that night to play. They could only risk having two other players to foul out. And this was a game at the end of the season no less. A throwaway game. In a season where Wilt was averaging 50 points a game. 7 Reply 1 reply @hjpev6469 1 year ago This is a great video. He rides from Hersey to NYC in a car pool with the Knicks players. What people don't realize is how shakey the NBA was financially in the 60s. Wilt's coach didn't take him off the court because the franchise's existence depended on his presence--and so did the NBAs. People came to see him. He was the only basketball player they knew. I see a lot of comments talking about his rebounding records too, 55 in one game specifically. This is gonna sound silly, but im gonna say it anyway: Let me put 55 boards in 1 game into perspective. I play NBA2K vodeo game series, the only game prertty much that i even bother with. At 45 y/o, im nlt the "gamer" i was as a kid. So i play it like 3 or 4 times a week. And even then, 95% of that time, im just being the GM; putting teams together, making trades, drafting. Then i simulate to see how i did. Ill actually play like 4 games a season AT ABSOLUTE MOST. And even, then, once again, i dont wanna spend an hour playing 1 game, so ill set the quarters for 5 or even 4 minutes. But i dont wanna ruin my players' stats, so ill play 4 min quarters, but have the final box score extrapolate ss if i played the full 12. And I'll play on medium difficulty. So when u SIM it out to 12 min but onlh play 4, everything is multiplied by 3. I have had guys OBLITERATE the 100 points in a game, 150+ lol.... same with assists, 3 pointers made, FG made, blocks, steals...all single game records, i have absolutely demolished. Even with all that cheapness, i have yet to crack even the top 5 rebounds in a game record. Never once. I even tried to, by makinf haleem Olajuwon and eben Dennis Rodman like 7'5" lol, just to see. So i play a slanted game. Difficulty MEH. Destroyer of every sinlge game record cuz whatever i do, it finishes times 3. I play and drop 25, logs as 75 points.... Complete manipulation and fabrication of the actual sport. Its silly, but its one game. And i have yet to see one of mh guys break the top 5, with 45 rebounds in a game. Its alwsys wilt and Russell's records. And yet Wilt and Russell actually played, didnt have their work multiplied. And there anywhere from 1 rebound to FRIGGIN 10 better than my cheating. Again, it may seem silly cuz im usinf a video game to compare to real life. But in reality, its actually that much more amazing BECAUSE i CANNOT BREAK EVEN THE TOP 5 EVEN THOUGH ITS A VIDEO GAME---- ANDDDD IM BASICALLY CHEATING... SO AGAIN... let that sink in. Changr ur perspective now. I cant video game cheat my way to the actual real life record that Wilt achieved with his 55.... Wilt's record withstands and out performs a friggin VIDEO GAME. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. 1 Reply @pimpmastaa101 1 year ago Wilt was up clapping cheeks 😂😂😂 7 Reply @smallwonder866 11 months ago Contrary to popular belief, even in today's era, Wilt in his prime would still average between 35 and 40 per game. 8 Reply 3 replies @DonTrump-sv1si 10 months ago 100 points is good but no one will ever beat Lebron GOAT James 5 flops in one game. 6 Reply @rafaelvega538 10 months ago Awesome documentary 2 Reply Foobas Sports · 1 reply @HypnoticHollywood 10 months ago Wilt wasn't just a better player, he also had super human-like athletic abilities. 2 Reply 1 reply @Asura-Path 3 months ago This shit beautiful 2 Reply Foobas Sports · 1 reply @myfishisnothappy1595 1 year ago One ridicolous stat of Wilt is the 60 fouls on him in the 100 pts game. What a great athlete. My favorite era is when I grew up, the 80's. My second favorite era is the barnstorming early NBA/ABA. The men had guts and so much finesse. The current era of NBA barely gets my attention. In the old days, I would go without lunch for a week to get a ticket to an NBA game. Today? Free tickets might not get me off the couch. You want me to pay money to watch Steph Curry chuck 25 balls at the rim from 30 feet? If he feels good, they win. If he had fish for lunch they lose?? There is zero human drama in that exhibition. The NBA is doing great as a product, but it sucks as a sport. I apologize if I sound like an old man. 1 Reply @DrJohnnyJ 1 year ago Barkley says, "Nobody will get more than 40 today because they will kill him" but Kobe got 80. There were two keys to the 100 point game. First, Wilt's team got 169. Both teams were running so there were a lot of scoring opportunities. Second, the opposing center was the worst defender in NBA history (Imhoff). Imhoff gave up 54 to Willis Reed, 31 to Bill Russell, etc. Henry Finkel scored 42 against him while averaging 12 against the league then scored 38 points in the next match up. 4 Reply 3 replies @morrisparrish76 9 months ago Comparing Lebron James to WNC is about like comparing a rowboat with the titanic!…..that’s so what 2 Reply @DersandmannAusdemall 1 year ago 1:00 dude, wtf... Hello. it was a REAL game, THAT THEY WERE LOSING by double-digits at halftime, Phil ripped 'em a new one. Kobe scored 55 points in 22 minutes of game time. At the Wilt game "people were walking out at halftime", they knew it was a farce. The Hack-a-Wilt [Shaq] was in full effect. So, he 'pulled a Harden', congrats. It was 169-144, or something; Kobe's was 122-108, maybe? Percentage of his team's points, HE SCORED MORE!! Did I mention that IT WAS A REAL GAME, that they were losing, Kobe had a 'quiet 26' in the first half. Honestly, I DARE TO SAY IT: I think his 62 in three against Dallas, may actually be more devastating that dropping 55, a double-nick in the SECOND HALF. Think about it, another 'easy 20', and he goes for 82! Reply @Tadrian4084 10 months ago Wait a minute did they have 3 pointers back then Reply @allenvejar246 9 months ago Wilt bill Russell greatest 2 Reply @markkraft6719 10 months ago I saw that Shaq thinks that he would have bullied and outplayed Wilt. First off, it is a ridicilous statement to compare yourself to a player in a different era. Shaq was dominant in his time, but he never saw the likes of Wilt. Not only was Wilt dominant in basketball, but he was a dominant athlete across all disciplines. I would take Wilt over Shaq all day. Shaq is boastful, arrogant and lazy. 1 Reply @TheMrmartind40 9 months ago Imagine if he could shoot long range with a 3 point shot? 1 Reply Foobas Sports · 1 reply @nataliesuda9786 10 months ago LEGENED' 1 Reply @georgeferrier9461 11 months ago Than everyone. Wait until the playoffs are set.....a meaningless game. Victor get hot and makes a few threes. Then just igve him the ball every time. Miss shots on purpose so he can get the rebound. Let the other team score. He could do it. Reply @ecorona9552 11 months ago Nothing "natural" about it. This hurts his legacy imo. Feed the ball to just ONE guy to make all the points. Ok? Feed it to Kobe or Jordan on purpose all game, they easily go for more. It's like a video game where 4 of 5 teammates play the objective, but the one other just gets kills. Well yeah! He's gonna have all the kills. Don't know how ppl compare to Jordan. MJ is the GOAT, hands down. This doc just proves it, and Wilt's "performance" was clearly manipulated with the help of his teammates feeding him constantly. Reply 2 replies @grybnyx 11 months ago Wilt made 28 of 32 free throws, because he was shooting them underhanded like Rick Barry.
