Kareem's skyhook is one of the greatest techniques. It is almost impossible to defend against. Watching Wilt block them shows how great he was.

A prime Wilt would crush today's league. He would out muscle, out jump, out last, out class, and out smart everyone with a dominance greater than he did before.

I've watched all the Wilt films I could find, and NEVER ONCE have I seen him lower his shoulder and jump into the defender like the players do today. Wilt goes straight up and reaches OVER the guy to make his shot. He was really something special.

He played with the handbrake on a lot of the time .He was fundamentally a gentle giant who didn't like hurting people .If he was more ruthless he'd would have had two or three more chips .Deep down Russell knew this...

In 1968 Wilt set a postseason record 49.3 minutes a game against the Knicks, leading all players in points, rebounds, and assists. In his last postseason series, the 1973 finals, he played every minute of every game being a few months shy of turning 37 years old. 8 of Wilt's 9 postseason triple doubles came within this last half of his career. In 1967 Wilt set a postseason record 41 rebounds over Bill Russell, set a record four consecutive triple doubles, and shattered the record for most rebounds in a triple double with 38. Post knee injury Wilt had to play in four postseason series that went all the way to a game 7. In those games Wilt averaged 24.3 points, 24.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and shot .603 from the field while putting in a staggering 47.3 minutes a game. No player has ever dropped 20/20/5/.600 in a game 7 yet an older Wilt averaged that across four game 7s in the last four years of his career coming off knee surgery.

Bob Lanier came out of college at 6’11” and 265+ , and has a story about his first trip to LA.
He started bodying Wilt out of his accustomed spot down low. Got under him some and pushed.
Wilt said to him a couple times,” Rookie , don’t do that..”
After a few trips up the court, Bob did it again. He finishes the story….
Wilt just turned to me from behind and put his hands under my armpits and lifted me off my feet and set me aside several feet like a baby being put into high chair.
He said “I Told You, Don’t Do That…..”. Right then I knew he was the baddest ….no one ever could do that to me…..

I'm just glad people are finally starting to recognize his accomplishments and at thinking of him as the GOAT (which he is). I wish he was alive to see the talk about him now. He was and still is underappreciated, underrated, and undervalued.

He could have set even more records. People forget, he didn't retire in 1973; he signed with the San Diego Conquistadors (ABA) as player/coach. He wanted to continue playing, but lawsuits kept him from doing so.

I had to stop the video to comment on this quote, "Wilt was the strongest human being I've ever seen in my life". My uncle taught Wilt volleyball. They played together for years. After a match on the beach, I walked into the clubhouse where Wilt was sitting shirtless. I paused and I know my mouth fell open. It was like looking at a living bronze statue of a super human, bigger than life, shaped like Hercules. I'll never forget that moment. In person he was unreal. The definition of powerful.

When you see this guy and think about the Jordan-Lebron goat debate, you can't help but shake your head. Wilt is probably above anyone that has ever touched a basketball. Yes, the game has changed and players are probably more athletic and skilled, but you have to look at every era in its own context. When you do that, it becomes clear that Wilt stood higher above his era than Jordan did in his. Had Wilt played in the 80's, 90's or 2000's, he would have acquired the modern big man skills just as easily as anyone out there.

He consistently blocks shots above the rim, near the top of the square when the ball is already in the air even at the end of his career. No one else can do that.
It'd be incredibly hard to shoot over this physical phenom.

Yes...the best Wilt video by far. I must admit, this video gives me new found respect for him. I'm 50 and watched Kareem and Bill Walton play but never had the pleasure of watching Russell & Wilt play. I gotta say that Lebron, Jordan, Westbrook, Vince Carter, Shaq, etc...had NOTHING on Wilt when it comes to athleticism and dominance. He blocked Lew Alcindor 2x in a row on the Sky Hook in Lew's prime. That is arguably the most mind boggling thing I've seen in my lifetime of watching NBA basketball and I owned a Satellite dish in the 80's and the NBA league pass for most of the 2000's. Just incredible the amount of skill and athleticism for his size...oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a boy I had the great privilege of seeing Wilt play in this era. As young boys my brother and I attended 8 games of the 33 game willing streak. Shortly before the streak I got to see one of the last appearances of the great Elgin Baylor, the MJ of his time. 2 of the 6 members of the 70 -point club on the same team. At that time they were the only 2 members. First time I saw Wilt up close I couldn't believe a man could grow that big.

Wilt played 29 postseason series, the majority of them played from 1966-73, and Wilt's teams went 18-11 in them. Anyone wondering about Wilt's drop-off in career average points from the regular season to the playoffs (30.1 to 22.5) should look at those 18 series Wilt's teams won because 13 of them was where Wilt scored less than his regular season average. Wilt's lowest scoring average in a postseason series came against the Warriors in 1973 where he only averaged 7.0 points, but then he also pulled down 23.6 rebounds (way above this season rebounding average of 18.6), outrebounded Nate Thurmond (who came in second to Wilt in rebounding that year) and defensively held him to .373 shooting (when Nate shot .446 against the rest of the league) and Wilt blocked at least 29 shots in that 5-game romp over Golden State, the team that eliminated Kareem's 60-win Bucks in the previous round that year. Wilt averaged more playing time in his last NBA postseason than he did during his rookie season.

Wilt is ridiculous in so many of these clips each time he moves someone it doesn’t even look like he is barely trying which is true. The reason he never got into a fist fight with anyone or used his full strength in a game is because he was afraid he would seriously hurt someone cause he knew how strong he was and how “strong” everyone else was. In my opinion not just the greatest basketball player but greatest athlete of all time.

Wilt always intrigued me, I grew up in 90s and only got to read his stat lines til good ol youtube came around ...and I'll say he"s the goat at any position in basketball..don't care how tall or what position or he played against . There was a perception he put up numbers on 5'8 white guys which is not the case at all..he dominates in any era!

As a young kid, my brother & myself had floor seats at the forum, courtesy of a friend of our dad.Next to the Laker bench. I met Wilt in the forum club before a game: I was 9, and he was injured that year. I asked if he would tonight.. . . he said" not tonight, son". A gentleman: Wilton Norman Chamberlain. He was a giant. RIP Wilt. I hope yer playing cards with yer dad, in heaven.

The story involving Mel Daniels being told beginning at 0:47 is from Bob Netolicky of the ABA Pacers. And it occurred during an ABA game in 1973-74 when the Pacers played the San Diego Conquistadors, who were coached by Wilt. Flynn Robinson was Wilt's teammate back when they both played for the Lakers on that great 1971-72 team. There's a video where a bunch of the Pacers were reunited and Bob told this same story. He started off by saying (quoting teammate Roger Brown) "We played 82 games, we had 82 fights, and Mel Daniels started them all". And Mel Daniels is there to confirm that the story is true.
The Pacers of that era were an extremely talented team. Mel Daniels, George McGinnis (who was probably the most powerfully built forward of his time), Roger Brown and Freddie Lewis. Daniels, McGinnis and Brown all made it to the HoF. No wonder the Pacers won 3 championships in the ABA. It's too bad that Daniels didn't make it into the NBA. He did play a few games for the New York Nets in his very last season but he was cut early on. Apparently because of the way things ended for him in the ABA, he lost his passion for the game. He played a season in Italy after the ABA folded, and that probably didn't help when he tried to make his comeback in the US.
It's also too bad Wilt never got to suit up for the SD Conquistadors. He signed a 3-year deal with SD to be a player-coach. But the Lakers challenged Wilt's right to play in the ABA, and they won the legal battle. This is because Wilt owed the Lakers the option year of his contract. So Wilt was allowed to coach in the ABA, but could not play.

My quarantine time NBA realization is that I have not given enough respect to Wilt.
Last two days I am watching every available thing about Wilt on Youtube and other sources, and I feel guilty for not giving him enough props. I always considered him as a super-strong athlete who just dominated a bunch of mediocre players of that era but I never considered him as a legit basketball talent. Although some Wilt numbers I still consider to be floated due to weak competition, wilt was phenomenal player. He would still be a superstar in any freakin era. Sorry Big Dipper. RIP!!!

I don't think there is any question about who was the most dominant player of all time. What if I told you there was a player slightly over 7 feet tall with a high 40 vertical leap, faster up the court than everyone, Stronger than everyone, had an unstoppable fade away bank shot, and could dunk whenever he pleased, could lead the league in assists, and blocks? Well, that was Wilt.

10 or 15 years ago all you heard from Shaq was how great he was and how he was the best big man of all time. With the advent of YouTube and the popularity of all things Wilt Chamberlain he doesn't talk that anymore. He knows and he knows that everyone else knows the same thing. I've heard it said that less than 20% of Wilt's career is available on film, the rest was unrecorded. Imagine .....

I’d imagine that Mel Daniels listing is selling him a little short. That 220 lbs listing was from his rookie year in 1967. The incident with Wilt was in the ABA’s 1973-74 season, when Mel was about 29 years old. At that point, he was probably up to around 235-240 lbs.

You run outta things to say about Wilton Norman Chamberlain. Funny how he and Usain Bolt have the same birthday. August 21st♌ Must be why even when they eased up off the gas it still left you in unspeakable AWE of them. Incredible.

Wilt seems like he didn't do much if any pick and roll. Imagine if he did that with Hal Greer and had a modern coach. His speed, jumping ability, strength, attitude, height made him the true GOAT.

I dont think its a coincidence that blocks and steals were only counted starting from the very next season after Wilt retired (his last season 72/73, new official stats 73/74)

Wilt Chamberlain IS the GOAT. Nobody ever could block a shot by Kareem except for Wilt. I am 67 years old and Wilt Chamberlain is my favorite basketball player of all time!!! Saw him in the Spectrum in person in Philly 12 times and in LA when he went to the Lakers. Probably the greatest athlete of all time, period!!!

I am from India, only thing i can say he is the god of basketball. Babe Ruth, Wilt, don Bradman are gods of their games.
Somehow get the feeling he did not give 100 per cent because then the game would be too onside, that how good he was he.

Wilt should be considered that mythical figure and get all of the accolades of a Babe Ruth. He has records that will ever be touched and he was so good the game had to be modified to slow him down.

The season in which Wilt played a style of game, at least statistically, most like Bill Russell was in the Lakers' magical '71-'72 season. Wilt averaged 14.8 pts per game and 19.2 rebounds. At that stage of his career, although he was still capable of higher scoring games, he was surrounded by exceptional scorers like Jerry West (although past his prime), Gail Goodrich and solid scorers like Jim McMillan. Wilt, that season, was mostly a defensive-oriented Center who was one of the best passing Big Men in the game and still one of the best Rebounders and Shot Blockers. Wilt's ability to block shots in the later stages of his career was a sight to behold. I remember Wilt blocking shot after shot against the Bulls in the WC Semifinals that year. The Lakers, that season, coached by former Celtic great Bill Sharman, truly mirrored the best Russell-led Celtics teams from '56-'69. Lakers won a then record 69 games, including 33 consecutive wins and they defeated an injury-plagued, but still, very formidable Knicks team to win their first Chip as the L.A. Lakers. The Knicks defeated the Lakers twice to win the Chip, but '71-'72 was a, one-for-the-ages, season for the Lakers.

There is no film of it, but in the 1961 Rucker Tournament, Wilt got super angry about somebody blocking one of his shots, and subsequently went nuts, blocking shots of players of HIS OWN TEAM, so he could come down with it and dunk it himself.

Just watching him move around under the basket, seeing the height he got, seeing his power against multiple defenders, Wilt Chamberlain would be more than a match in any era. I can't think of another player who was as big and strong and could jump like that. David Robinson or Olajuwon maybe? Wilt is like a combination of Shaq and Olajuwon.

Stronger than shaq, higher vertical than 90% of players at 40 inches (its a rumor it was even higher), as fast as players way smaller than him (he ran track and was fast af), assist leader as a center with bad teammates, plus he could hook shot from 3pt range (didn't have 3pt line when he played but he probably would've taken advantage), he was just a freak
