Hitting that dam, that one strike would take a huge toll on the Chinese population when you're talking about half a million people immediately and millions of more people getting killed after. Reply @gregcox-w5p 4 days ago Looking at the map, it appears that most of the conflict would be in Taiwan, but also on the Chinese coast as they bomb Taiwan cities, it would probably open their own cities to bombardment with missiles that would be especially prominent if they drew the United States and Japan into the conflict . From the West point of view this is a plus as most of the damage will be done in that specific region I suspect most of the local area missiles would be hitting local area targets, including Chinese manufacturing on the mainland and manufacturing facilities for their weapons. It would seem very unlikely That China would be bombing with ballistic missiles the United States to cut down on weapons productions. It would seem to be a very lopsided, economic impact. Obviously nuclear bombardment would change that equation because of the efficiency and damage that they afford ; hopefully, our leaders are not so blind to lits down that path. First, much like Taiwan, China has had decades to plan for an invasion. If they have military leadership even remotely qualified, they have to recognize the difficulties of a Taiwan invasion and have planned around them. Germany in WW2, with it's smaller navy compared to the British Royal Navy, should never have been able to pull off the invasion of Norway, yet it did with some out of the box thinking and luck. Secondly, an invasion could be ordered by the political leadership in China, regardless of the military reality. In hindsight, most everyone can see that the Argentina invasion of the Falklands was doomed before it started, but it was ordered anyway by the Argentina military junta's need to distract from domestic problems. The very effect of the Chinese Communist Party tiny group of ultimate decision makers means there's few if anyone to say "no" to an attack on Taiwan. No one, either military or civilian, wants to be the one to stand up and say that despite billions spent on the military, it can't defeat Taiwan. China cannot easily take Taiwan. Look at how Ukraine has defeated the Russian navy. Taiwan does not need a navy to defend itself -- it needs missiles. Taiwan has missiles. Over 3000 of HF-1, HF-2, HF-2e, and HF-3 missiles. An invasion fleet will not likely survive to within 50 miles of Taiwan. After that, landing craft and helicopters then have to survive TOW, MANPADs, and other short range missiles. Then, any that might land (I doubt any will make it that far, they will have to survive interlocking fields of fire. Also called killing zones.) 2. Taiwan has the most advanced chips in the world --- which means it has the most advanced EW, ECM, ECCM, and spoofing systems. China's stuff is always a bit out of date. How many foreign military bases do they possess? The US has up to 800. The UK has at least 145 in 42 countries. China has 1, in the Horn of Africa, next to an American base. The US does not self-report ADIZ violations, Israel has committed 22000 such ADIZ violations of Lebanon alone in 15 years.
