In case you're wondering why Roberto Benigni is holding two Oscars, he not only acted in Life Is Beautiful but he also directed it. His second Oscar in 1999 was for Best International Feature Film

What's sad about Will Smith's win (though it's definitely his fault) is that his winning the Oscar won't be remembered for winning the Oscar.

Anthony Hopkins has won twice and has done many fine performances, but to me his greatest effort was in The Remains of the Day (1993). He doesn’t chew up the scenery here—he doesn’t have to. Even just the look in the character’s eyes is so haunting.

Some years are incredibly competitive. For instance it would be hard for me to understand how Peter O’ Toole did not win for Lawrence Of Arabia or Robert Preston for The Music Man. But they both lost to Gregory Peck in To Kill A Mockingbird. It was a toss up.
All three performances were great.
The same thing has happened repeatedly over the years.

Cillian Murphy winning for Oppenheimer is the first time in a long time where the Oscar was fully deserved. I saw Oppenheimer in cinema and he was flawless. I still dont know how DiCaprio took so long to win it and then the role that did win him it was only really a mid performance by his standards. He was incredible in Catch Me If You Can and also he should have had Best Supporting for his turn as Billy Costigan in The Departed

I like to see the great Anthony Hopkins here, two times, totally deserve both awards (sorry Black Panther fans), and the Will Smith case, of course he deserved that Oscar, because he gave a great performance in King Richard, and deservedly won it, the problem was "everything else", in that year 2022, the only thing people will remember is going to be the slap and nothing else, no one will remember who else won in the rest of awards, practically he stole the moment to everyone else, sad.

Academy recognises really good performances and rewards them accordingly. They don't care about big names.
In bollywood Filmfare awards are given away to top stars just like that . Even the biggest flop of the year is rewarded as the best movie only because it has a big star.

You messed up.
1951 is not Jose Ferrer.
That photo is Anthony Quinn.
Who didn’t check?

Spencer Tracy & Tom Hanks are the only 2 actors in Oscar history to win back to back. The fact that screen legends including Charlie Chaplin, Barbara Stanwyck, Richard Burton, Peter O'Toole, Cary Grant and Judy Garland never won is quite astonishing

Not Frederic March in 1947. And that's Anthony Quinn, not Jose Ferrer.

Your information regarding 1933 is incomplete. There was a tie that year for best actor. BOTH Fredric March for Dr, Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Wallace Beery for The Champ won. Interesting bit of trivia. Fredric March was the only actor to win a best actor Oscar for a horror movie until Sir Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs.
