Important all these directors i don' t say no, but where is David Lynch, Jean Pierre Melville, Francois Truffaut, Yasuhiro Ozu, Elia Kazan, Orson Welles, Sam Peckinpah and Brian De Palma. And Spielberg in the first place;! And Cameron so high on the list;

It's amazing that your list does not include William Wyler who directed diametrically opposed masterpieces with brilliance - The Collector and Ben Hur.

Not that good of a list. Modern bias left out Hawks, Stevens, Houston, Wellman, Capra, Walsh, Peckinpaugh, Altman among others. Also, I am sure Woody Allen would laugh at this being ranked above Bergman, Kurosawa and Fellini, who all should be in the top five.

D.W. Griffith? Other silent era directors? French New Wave? Neo-Realism? Your list is a little heavy on present day blockbuster directors and light on directors from pre-1970. Spielberg ahead of Kubrick and Scorsese is debatable. But thankfully, George Lucas didn't make the list.

Mit 70-80% gehe ich mit. Aber Tarantino so weit hinten?
Kein Denis Villeneuve, Guillermo del Toro, Terry Gilliam, Oliver Stone, Luc Besson, Danny Boyle, Robert Zemeckis, John Carpenter, Brian de Palma, David Lynch, John Hughes, Fritz Lang....... und zusammen mit Steven Spielberg der größte aller Zeiten George Lucas.

Stephen Spielberg is number 1? Ahead of Charlie Chaplin and Alfred Hitchcock? Give me a damned break.

Total BS. My favourite director here is Scorsese. However, Hitchcock inspired just sbout every director on this list. Scorsese himself stated as much in interviews.
I'm not even sure Scorsese is a genius director. The continuity in his films is notoriously off. He does have a knack for getting excellent performances from his cast and the stories he weaves stay with you because they're moral tales without being preachy and as such are hugely appealing.
