Jack Reacher Tom Cruise

Ex-military investigator Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) leaps off the pages of Lee Child’s bestselling novel and onto the big screen in the explosive thriller the critics are calling “taut, muscular, gruff and cool”*. When an unspeakable crime is committed, all evidence points to the suspect in custody who offers up a single note in defense: “Get Jack Reacher!” The law has its limits, but Reacher does not when his fight for the truth pits him against an unexpected enemy with a skill for violence and a secret to keep. * Peter Suderman, THE WASHINGTON TIMES Transcript Follow along using the transcript. Got a promotion at work and needed a movie to watch for my at home celebration. Thank you YouTube. 79 Reply 10 replies @peterkinberger9741 3 weeks ago Robert Duvall never fails to deliver. Great movie, even Werner Herzog was in it. Tom Cruise and a great cast. Excellent storyline. What more can I ask ? Classic road monsters and nice imported ones with high speed. Great movie ! What never struck me at the time was how drop dead gorgeous Ms. Pike was. Absolutely stunning. It was a teaser movie due to no funny business between her and Cruise. The tension was part of the charm of this motion picture. 44 Reply 3 replies @pagliaccisghost269 3 weeks ago Whoever's idea it was in the bathroom fight scene where Jack used someone's head as a weapon, to knock out the other guy,,,,,, Beautifully done!!!!! 97 Reply 9 replies @edwarddejong8025 3 weeks ago Ms. Pike was super gorgeous in this film. Whoever is in charge of choosing the movie upload rotation, keep it up!!! 2 Reply @AldenRDavis 2 weeks ago The character of JACK REACHER, or simply - "Reacher", is a former U.S. Army Military Police Officer who is currently wandering around the United States, visiting places that he had only heard about while he was growing up. By choice, he has no possessions except for a folding toothbrush, an ATM card and a Passport. He has a strong sense of duty to "do the right thing" which causes him to become involved with people in need. In the Army, he was a Major who was demoted to Captain, but then worked his way back to Major before leaving the service. 10 Reply @gregorygolden1296 12 days ago Great movie. I get it, Reacher is superimposing, but what Tom lacks in Child’s’ Reacher attributes, he more than makes up for it with his amazing acting. This is the best of ALL worlds, and I’ve read most of the Reacher novels! Enjoy! 5 Reply @srussert28 12 days ago (edited) Holy Crap... This Jack Reacher is night and day different. This movie has A-list actors, and it's nice not to be distracted by someone who is trying too hard, or just flat-out improbable dialogue. Excellent flick. 17 Reply 2 replies @BlueAllianceNews 3 weeks ago Jack Reacher as a character really brings a unique blend of intellect, physical strength, and moral certainty that's hard to find elsewhere. It's amazing how he can walk into any situation, no matter how complicated or dangerous, and find a way to navigate through it with his own brand of justice. For anyone following his stories, either through the books or adaptations, it's like getting a masterclass in resilience and adaptability. Plus, the way he stands up for what's right, regardless of the odds, is truly inspiring. Even if you happen to not be an admirer of Tom Cruise personally (I'm not especially, but whatever), his performance in this film is outstanding. Technical aspects of the movie are also not too shabby - in any case, care was taken to address them (though Pittsburgh Police never used Crown Vics, they were all adorned 100% correctly). And then the irony that he thinks Reacher's going to get him and he actually saved him. Another thing I noticed on this, my probably fifth viewing of this film, is in the dialogue at the gun shop (at the range), Cash (Duvall) says "You're no Jarhead, even a man a winged horse could see that." Reacher responds by telling him that his father was a marine, if that helps. Cash replies "well that makes you at least half a man." Perseus rode the winged horse in Greek mythology. He was half a man ... and half a god. That would tend to make Cash Zeus I guess. Later when Cash is prepping on the ridge for the final engagement Reacher says "what's wrong with your eye?" (right eye was closed). Odin was blind in one eye. Wrong mythology though. Um maybe Cash is like a God, up on Olympus (the ridge) helping from afar, and Reacher is like Perseus, actually engaging down on Earth. Otherwise, just an interesting tidbit. [edit] Just remembered the scene where the first henchman guy goes to meet the major players--the Zec was present in the shadows. The henchmen realizes, when he sees the figure in the shadow, that it's the Zec and cries "I didn't see you!" because he knows apparently to see the Zec is to die. Just like to see ... Medusa is to die. And Perseus slays Medusa in Greek myth. There, that C+ average in English literature is vindicated. 2 Reply @thomasbaldwin5209 3 weeks ago when does part 2 come out? 1 Reply @danbaron9094 2 weeks ago You know, I used to think Tom Cruise was an okay actor, but over time, movie after movie after movie, the guy just keeps delivering. Can't help but wonder about some of the (what do you call it?) blocking direction during dialog. People only ordinarily stand that close to speak to each other when old format TVs pushed them Star Trek close out of 3:4 necessity. For a contemporary 9:16 movie it is perfectly acceptable for the actors to behave like normal people and not get right up in each others' faces when they speak. Has to be some kind of record, Detective. 9:35 What the hell is this? 9:44 ( dramatic theme playing ) Who the hell is Jack Reacher? 9:51 Jack Reacher, born Jack, not John, no middle name, is a ghost. 9:58 No driver's license, current or expired. No residence, current or former. No credit cards, no credit history. 10:05 No P.O. box, cell phone, e-mail. Nothing. Can you at least tell me who he is? 10:11 Well, I can tell you who he was. Blood military. Born and raised on bases abroad. 10:16 Mother was a French national, father in the Corps. His first trip to the United States 10:21 was to attend West Point. Four years later, he ships out for good. Iraq. Afghanistan. The Balkans. You name it. 10:29 Served with distinction. Silver Star, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit. 10:35 Defense Superior Service Medal? Had to look that one up. And a Purple Heart. 10:41 He spent the bulk of his service in the Military Police. By all accounts, a brilliant investigator. 10:47 Apparently, a troublemaker too. Demoted to Captain. Worked his way back to Major. 10:53 Then two years ago, he musters out. After a literal lifetime in the military, 10:58 he just up and quits. And then, for only the second time in his life, he enters the United States and simply disappears. 11:07 RODIN: Dead, maybe? EMERSON: Not according to Social Security and a bank account in Virginia. 11:13 His pension is deposited monthly, and someone is making the occasional withdrawal. 11:18 All wire transfers. I can't find out where without a federal warrant. 11:24 RODIN: Well, he can't drive or fly. At least not under his real name. Any warrants? EMERSON: Record's clean. 11:31 Oh, come on. A guy this hard to find? Gotta be wanted for something. His record is clean. 11:36 So... 11:42 ...how do we find this Reacher? Obviously, you don't find this guy unless he wants to be found. 11:47 ( knocking on door ) Excuse me, sir. There's a Jack Reacher here to see you. 12:01 Can I help you? James Barr. 12:12 RODIN: So now you've seen him. How do you know him? Why wasn't he in protective custody? 12:19 That was an oversight. More like some Corrections flunky threw him to the wolves. EMERSON: Just as likely. 12:25 But it's done, and we can't undo it. So what happens now? Well, now he's in a coma. 12:31 We'll try him when he wakes up. If he wakes up. Okay? Now it's your turn, Reacher. 12:36 Why did he call you as a witness? I don't believe he did. Well, I believe he asked for you by name. 12:43 Any chance I could look at the evidence? No way. Not till you answer some questions. Nice meeting you. 12:48 Hey. Hey. Hey! Mr. Reacher. Mr. Reacher! Hey, stop! Stop right there! We had a deal. I take you to Barr, you tell me what you know. 12:55 I know you say he shot five people, and he's in a coma. I know there's a bus station three miles away, and I can walk there in 24 minutes. 13:01 You're gonna walk out on your friend? He's not my friend. RODIN: Why'd he ask for you then? Same reason he shot five people, he's crazy. 13:08 Hey. Hold on. Don't do that. HELEN: Well, this is a new low, even for both of you. Uh-oh. 13:13 You do not talk to my client without me present. You know that. RODIN: We weren't talking to your client. He's in a coma, for chrissakes. 13:20 You're Barr's attorney? Helen Rodin, Jack Reacher. Jack Reacher? Helen Rodin. She's the District Attorney's daughter. 13:26 It's a good story. I'd like to hear it. How'd you find him? How'd they find you? You can't be talking to this man. 13:32 Two strikes in one day. It's not what it looks like. He came to us. You went to the DA? Is there a law against that? 13:38 None you're currently breaking. Come on, before this gets awkward. Now, hey. Say, "See you in court." For me. 13:44 Goodbye, Detective. Weird meeting you. Likewise. Let's go. 13:52 So... ( stammers ) So you're Jack Reacher. 13:58 So you're the DA's daughter. Oh, Jesus. Please. Is that even legal? Fortunately. How does that happen? 14:03 I'll tell you after deposition. You don't wanna depose me. You're my only defense witness. I'm not a defense witness. 14:08 Your friend James thinks you are. He's not my friend. Why does everyone assume that? Why else would he ask for you and why would you help him? 14:14 I didn't come here to help him. I came here to bury him. 14:19 ( concrete truck whirring ) ( dramatic theme playing ) 14:38 ( cell phone ringing ) Linsky. 14:46 Who the hell is Jack Reacher? HELEN: So why are you so hard to find? I'm impossible to find. 14:52 Why is that? You could say it started out as an exercise and became an addiction. 14:57 Are you on the run? My bus is leaving. You better hurry, counselor. 15:03 How do you know James Barr? Why are you representing him? I'm a lawyer. So is a public defender, with just as much chance of clearing Barr. 15:09 I'm not trying to clear him, I am just trying to keep him off death row. By proving he's insane? Well, that's one option. 15:17 And sticking it to your father because... No. Not my father. The Office of the District Attorney. Because the Office of the District Attorney 15:24 never bought you a pony. DA Rodin's never lost a capital case. You know why? Impeccable tailoring. 15:29 He never picks a fight he can't win. Worked for the Red Baron. Every suspect in town is given a choice. Confess or face death. 15:36 Against a DA who never loses. My firm has reason to believe more than one innocent man's gone down without a fight. 15:42 Oh, I get it. You're an idealist. No. I'm a pacifist. 15:49 It's a noble crusade. But this is not the fight. Trust me. James Barr's guilty. 15:54 You haven't even seen the evidence. 16:00 Is this a privileged conversation? Of course, it's a client conference. Nothing you say here can be repeated. 16:08 There are four types of people who join the military. For some, it's a family trade. Others are patriots, eager to serve. 16:16 Next, you have those who just need a job. Then there's the kind who want a legal means of killing other people. 16:23 James Barr was one of those. He made sniper. Trained hard. Two thousand rounds a week. 16:30 And with every shot, he's taught to visualize the base of a man's skull through his reticle. 16:35 The sweet spot where the medulla meets the spine. ( gun cocks ) Visualize that puff of pink mist. 16:42 ( clicks ) Finally, he's deployed to Iraq. He's put on overwatch. 16:48 All day long, he stares through a scope at civilians. Women. Children. 16:55 Day in, day out, for two long years, without ever once being cleared to fire a single shot. 17:02 Then comes the drawdown. For James Barr, the war's over. Two thousand rounds a week. 17:09 A quarter million rounds in his career, not one at a human target. You've been hungry. You've been horny. 17:17 You've had an itch you can't scratch. Imagine that feeling. Days. Weeks. Years. 17:24 Imagine that feeling times 200,000, plus 50,000 more. Imagine it's 130 degrees on the deck 17:30 and tomorrow you're going home, and you know if you don't scratch that itch now, you never will. 17:36 You need a release. You need a target. And the who of it never once enters your mind. 17:43 ( suspenseful theme playing ) 17:53 ( firing ) 18:00 He covered his tracks well, just like sane people do. It also makes people who aren't necessarily smart seem smart by beating some tactical awareness into them. 1:02:39 Now, 99 percent of the evidence your father has against Barr didn't exist in Baghdad, not because Barr was smart, but because he was trained. 1:02:46 See, from that garage, the shooter had the sun in his eyes. Targets were moving left and right. 1:02:52 It's difficult conditions for any sniper. But Baghdad, you said Barr was in a parking garage then. REACHER: Because in Baghdad, the sun's behind him. 1:02:59 Targets coming straight ahead, single file. Ideal conditions for even an average shooter 1:03:06 and the exact same conditions he would've had up on that highway bridge. 1:03:11 Up there, he would never even have to get out of the van. No parking meter. 1:03:18 No camera. No trace evidence left behind. And his escape is assured. 1:03:23 I'm not saying that he couldn't have killed those people at the river, but he wouldn't have. Not that way. 1:03:29 So you're saying he's crazy. No. Well, what exactly are you saying? Any single piece of evidence I'd buy. But all of it? 1:03:36 Fibers, fingerprints, stray brass, I mean... And who the hell pays for parking? Sane or crazy, that just doesn't make sense. 1:03:44 Okay. So Barr, he wanted to get caught, and he wanted you to catch him. 1:03:49 That would not explain how Barr, an average shooter firing in poor conditions, 1:03:55 never missed. He did miss. He did. 1:04:02 A pristine bullet, conveniently trapped by a liquid backstop. 1:04:09 The same bullet that tied Barr's gun to the killings. And arguably the prosecution's single most important piece of evidence. 1:04:17 If Barr wanted to get caught, he didn't miss. Either way, it doesn't make sense. If he wanted to get away with it, he likely would have 1:04:24 and if he wanted to get caught, Barr was incapable of such perfection. Or maybe he just got lucky, six shots out of six. 1:04:31 That's what I was willing to accept, then those guys took a run at me. Whoever sent them made a mistake. 1:04:38 It was just a bar fight. Maybe. 1:04:43 Or maybe someone got nervous, tried to run me off. Or put me in a coma, right next to their patsy. 1:04:53 Patsy? It was such a great crime scene. 1:04:59 No one stopped to think it might be too great. Not Emerson. Not your father. 1:05:04 Not even Barr's own defense attorney. But Barr knew I would, 1:05:12 no matter how much I wanted it to be true. That's why he asked for me. 1:05:19 Wait. Are you suggesting... James Barr is innocent. 1:05:34 You can see what this is, can't you? You've got a case in your hands that may be the last case you'll ever have... 1:05:42 and you'll do anything not to hit the bottom of it. Helen. 1:05:49 You know, you never should have retired. Just, look. Listen. For all I know, you were at an intersection 1:05:54 with a cardboard sign three days ago. And I hired you. Jesus, my father was right. Helen. Helen. It makes total sense now. 1:06:01 It's the way you live, the way you move around. You're just not cut out for the real world, are you? You afraid you'll end up like Barr? 1:06:07 Helen. Is that what this is? Look out the window. No, I have work to do. And you need to leave. Just humor me. Okay. 1:06:13 Let... Let go of me. Would you tell me what you see? I see the same 1:06:19 things I see every day. Well, imagine you've never seen it. 1:06:25 Imagine you've spent your whole life in other parts of the world, being told every day you're defending freedom. 1:06:31 And finally you decide you've had enough. Time to see what you've given up your whole life for. 1:06:37 Maybe get some of that freedom for yourself. Look at the people. 1:06:45 Now tell me which ones are free. Free from debt. 1:06:50 Anxiety. Stress. Fear. Failure. Indignity. Betrayal. 1:07:00 How many wish they were born knowing what they know now? Ask yourself how many would do things the same way all over again? 1:07:09 And how many would live their lives like me? 1:07:14 Now look at the silver Audi across the street, the one that's been following me all day. 1:07:19 What does that prove? Here's the tag number. How long would it take you to run it? At this time of night? I don't know. An hour? 1:07:27 Do it. Do it, and then I'll leave. 1:07:34 ( cell phone vibrates ) 1:07:40 When? No, this is my problem now. I'll handle it. 1:07:49 ( cell phone rings ) Yeah? You're blown. 1:07:56 The lawyer's running the license plates. ( mumbling in Russian ) Yeah. So do it? 1:08:03 Done. Go to this address. 1:08:11 HELEN: All right, let's just say that Barr didn't do it. Or did it 'cause someone put him up to it. Either way, what have you got? 1:08:17 Conspiracy. Yeah, conspiracy to kill five random people? There's no motive. It's ridiculous, right? It's grassy knoll ludicrous. 1:08:24 No point looking any further. Exactly. Exactly. 1:08:32 What's this? The motive. Just hold onto it. What are we playing, Clue? ( phone rings ) 1:08:39 Yeah? Give it to me. 1:08:47 Thank you. ( dramatic theme playing ) 1:09:06 You sure that car was following you all day? As soon as you picked me up. Why? 1:09:17 It's registered to a company called Lebendauer Enterprises. 1:09:31 A conspiracy to kill five random people? That's ridiculous. 1:09:40 Four. Four random people. 1:09:46 To hide one specific target. 1:10:13 REACHER: Someone needed Oline Archer's construction business. 1:10:19 And Oline wouldn't let it go. 1:10:31 It's a convincing theory. 1:10:36 But it's just a theory. The first round is the least accurate. 1:10:42 The snipers call it a cold shot. Meanwhile, your eyewitness described a pause between the first and second rounds. 1:10:49 The one shot where the killer took his time. HELEN: And Oline Archer was the second victim. 1:10:55 The one shot that mattered. But it's just a theory. 1:11:03 This frame was custom made for Barr. Whoever chose him knew about Baghdad, and the only one who could have 1:11:08 told him about Baghdad was Barr himself. He has at least one friend. A very close one. 1:11:14 Now, you find that friend, you'll find the real shooter. Find the real shooter? Reacher, my job is to present the jury with reasonable doubt. Period. 1:11:21 What about catching the guys who did this? Catching who did this? Bring them to justice? I can't take this to court. Exposing the truth. 1:11:27 Even if I believed Barr is innocent, it's not my job. I am just a lawyer. I'm not a cop. 1:11:38 And frankly, neither are you. 1:11:44 I can't do this anymore. 1:11:52 Thanks for the coffee, counselor. ( dramatic theme playing ) 1:11:58 ( door closes ) ( sighs ) 1:12:29 CHARLIE: Sandy? Wait, it is Sandy, isn't it? 1:12:38 Do I know you? Charlie. Jeb's friend? 1:12:43 Oh, come on, don't break my heart. I'm sorry, I don't remember. 1:12:49 Well, we were both pretty wasted. Oh. 1:12:55 BOTH: Yeah. ( chuckles ) What, you live here? Just up there. 1:13:01 No shit. I just moved in around the back. How crazy is that? 1:13:06 It's wild. Yeah. Wow! You, uh... You look great. 1:13:15 Thanks. Well, look, you know, I don't wanna keep you, so... 1:13:20 Maybe we can grab a drink sometime. Yeah, maybe. Hey, how about tonight? 1:13:27 I'm meeting some people. Okay. Well, some other time, then. 1:13:33 Some other time. Do it here. What? 1:13:39 ( dog barking ) ( suspenseful theme playing ) 1:14:01 ( shushing ) 1:14:10 ( elevator bell dings ) 1:14:20 HELEN: Reacher! 1:14:36 There's a gun range in Ohio, targets out to 700 yards. The only range that matches your requirements. 1:14:47 You should sleep. You have a long drive tomorrow, and I need to go to city hall 1:14:53 and pull up Oline's legal history. I wouldn't do that. Not till I get back. 1:15:00 If I'm right, someone killed four random people so no one would look directly at Oline. 1:15:06 And if I'm right, just saying her name could get you killed. You saying I should be scared? 1:15:11 Well, are you smart? Obviously. Then don't be scared. 1:15:28 ( police radio chattering ) 1:15:48 What exactly am I looking for? Someone who could kill that girl with one punch. 1:15:55 Oh, you want the guy in 1109. Ernie Johnson. 1:16:01 You'll see. 1:17:27 Out of the car! ( engine revving ) 1:17:33 ( car horn honks ) That's our suspect! Move, move! 1:17:39 ( sirens wailing ) ( tires screeching ) 1:18:00 Suspect is headed north on State Route 65. I need backup and air support. ( car engine revving ) 1:18:17 ( sirens wailing ) 1:18:45 ( tires screeching ) 1:19:07 ( car horn honks ) 1:19:14 ( horns honking ) 1:19:27 ( sirens wailing ) 1:19:45 ( panting ) ( trying to start engine ) 1:19:50 ( trying to start engine ) 1:20:01 ( engine revving ) ( tires screeching ) 1:20:07 (sirens continue wailing ) 1:20:28 ( tires screeching ) 1:21:06 ( brakes squealing ) 1:21:23 ( car engine revving ) 1:22:57 ( helicopter approaching ) 1:23:05 ( sirens continue wailing ) 1:23:37 Hold up! All clear! 1:24:02 Oh, God, I just don't believe it. I don't believe it! I issued the warrant an hour ago. According to the victim's boss, 1:24:08 Reacher was seen at her place of work this morning. Where he threatened her boss. The car he was driving tonight belonged to a friend of Jeb Oliver's. 1:24:15 The man he assaulted. No, those guys assaulted Reacher. Reacher put three more men in the hospital 1:24:20 this afternoon at Jeb Oliver's place. After arriving in Jeb Oliver's car. And Jeb hasn't been seen since he left the hospital. 1:24:26 Helen, if you know where Reacher is, you need to tell us. I don't know where he is. I have not seen him since he left my office a few hours ago. 1:24:35 I think she's telling the truth. Oh, you think, Dad? Fuck you! Hey, I told you not to go near him. You come into my home and treat me like an accessory! 1:24:42 ( scoffs ) Please! You know-- All right. Come on. Enough. Let me handle it. I'm not done. You're both done. Just get out. 1:24:47 ( phone ringing ) 1:24:52 This is Helen. REACHER: I'm guessing the police are there? Yep. By your response I'm guessing I have about 30 seconds 1:24:59 before you hand them the phone. If that. If you believe someone could frame Barr, you have to believe they could do the same to me. 1:25:06 I suppose that's possible. She was a sweet kid, Helen. 1:25:12 And they killed her because of me. They want me to run. 1:25:18 But I won't. I'm gonna finish this. No, that's not a good idea. Listen. 1:25:23 Two things. One, I, uh... I stole your car. 1:25:30 If you wanna end this, just hang up the phone and report it missing. And I'll understand. And anything else? 1:25:36 I thought I'd be pushing it if I mentioned this earlier. Now I guess all bets are off. 1:25:41 You need to watch what you say to Emerson and your father. I think one of them is in on it. All right. Thanks for calling. I have to go. 1:25:48 Wait. I've been followed from day one. Only three people knew I was here. 1:25:54 Emerson, your father and you. You need to ask yourself, who has the most to lose if we clear Barr? 1:26:03 Who tried to warn you off me? Of course, I could be wrong. If you think I am, 1:26:09 just hand over the phone. There's no sense getting any deeper. Who's that you're talking to? 1:26:15 The office. 1:26:21 Are we done? Helen, listen. We need to ta-- Good night. 1:26:29 ( dramatic theme playing ) ( door opens ) 1:26:38 ( door closes ) ( exhales ) ( dramatic theme playing ) 1:26:45 ( siren wailing ) 1:27:05 ( gunshots firing ) ( man singing indistinctly over radio ) 1:27:43 You got some fine shooters here. Fine as frog's hair. Rarer too. 1:27:50 'Cause most of them fellas out there can't shoot worth a damn, heh, heh. You ask them to put three rounds in the black, well, 1:27:58 they'll suck it. I'm looking for the owner. That'd be me. Martin Cash. 1:28:05 Aaron Ward. What can I do you for, Mr. Ward? Ward? Yeah. I'm looking for a friend of mine. 1:28:11 We served in Iraq. The guy just dropped off the grid, you know? It happens. Yep. Yeah. Yeah. 1:28:17 Anyway, he was a shooter. Last I heard, he lived around here somewhere and I-- When did he get out of the Army? 1:28:23 Well, I didn't say the Army. Well, you said you served with him. You're no jarhead. 1:28:28 Man on a flying horse could see that. Well, my father was in the Corps, if that helps. 1:28:33 Well, heh, heh, makes you half human. Your friend got a name? 1:28:39 Yeah. James Barr. James Barr. 1:28:45 Never heard of him. I think you have. 1:28:50 I think you've been dreading the moment some cop comes in here asking after him. Because it's for sure some soccer mom around here 1:28:57 is more worried about your range than she is about the pool in her backyard... ( clicks ) 1:29:03 ...or the drain cleaner under her sink. Wouldn't matter to her if Barr did his killing 100 miles away, 1:29:09 only that he came here to rehearse. She'd have a case to shut you down and nothing better to do. 1:29:17 What do you want? I wanna know who Barr's friends were. 1:29:23 ( gun cocks ) Those boys out there, 1:29:28 they're mighty touchy when it comes to their constitutional rights. Suppose I tell them a cop is in here 1:29:33 asking after my members? I'm not a cop. What are you? I work for Barr's attorney. 1:29:38 We have reason to believe he's innocent. The hell you say. Be that as it may, I'm the only one 1:29:44 who's bothered to track him this far. You help me out, I'll be in your debt. 1:29:51 And if I don't? Maybe you can coach soccer. 1:30:01 You put three in the center and maybe we'll talk, okay? 1:30:06 Can I have a few to warm up? 1:30:21 ( alarm sounding ) 1:30:48 ( alarm continues sounding ) 1:31:32 Six inches right. That's your mulligan, Mr. Ward. Play ball! 1:31:39 Let's go. 1:32:01 ( gunshot ) 1:32:11 ( suspenseful theme playing ) 1:32:25 You're a little rusty, Mr. Reacher. I saw a man by that name shoot for the Wimbledon Cup, 1:32:33 what, 10 years ago. And I'm pretty sure you never played second base for the Yankees 1:32:39 in 1925. Now... ( sighs ) 1:32:44 ...I'll answer one question. Who's your best shooter? 1:32:49 James Barr. I pulled all these down as soon as I heard about the shooting. 1:33:02 That's the best shot I ever seen this side of civilian life. Suppose I told you Barr wasn't this good 1:33:09 on his best day in the Army. I handed out those targets myself. That's my scrawl on every one. 1:33:15 Do you hang them downrange too? What, are you serious? I'm saying it's possible that Barr had a friend. 1:33:22 One who switched the targets on the range. Maybe Barr let him. Made him feel like King Shit having his name up on your wall. 1:33:29 I never saw one real shooter who would do that for his own mother. 1:33:35 Unless he was framing his mother for multiple murder... and using your range to do it. 1:33:44 Barr didn't come alone, did he? ( keyboard clacking ) You know, one of these nuts is likely to kill you, 1:33:50 they find that camera there. Hell, the camera's there 'cause one of these nuts is likely to kill me. 1:33:57 There's Barr. I always liked him. Always liked him. There. 1:34:04 Him. That son of a bitch. 1:34:14 ( ringing ) Helen Rodin speaking. REACHER: Got a candidate for our shooter. 1:34:20 Picture, possible prints, and one pissed-off eyewitness. 1:34:25 I can't talk right now. Just give me three hours to get back. And don't talk to anyone until I get there. 1:34:31 I'll look into that, thanks. This is just what I could pull this morning. 1:34:37 Tax records, city and state permit applications, contract bids. Shell corporation in Georgia. 1:34:43 That's the one next to Russia, not Florida. They work one city at a time, acquiring a local construction concern 1:34:50 just ahead of major civic redevelopment. They build bridges no one needs. Highways no one uses. 1:34:56 They're like a cancer. A cell that won't stop growing. 1:35:02 They moved 12 times in 15 years. Atlanta, Albuquerque, Austin, Oklahoma City, Sacramento. 1:35:09 Always amidst allegations of corruption, including millions of dollars in missing public funds. 1:35:16 And yet never an investigation. Never even an inquiry. 1:35:21 It's as if Lebendauer Enterprises were above reproach. 1:35:28 ( sighs ) Well, maybe that's because the allegations come from the competition. 1:35:36 Outbid. Bitter. Like Oline Archer. Or maybe Lebendauer has the cooperation of key officials. 1:35:44 And maybe when that cooperation isn't enough, they kill people who won't be bought off. 1:35:49 Like Oline Archer. Helen, how much of this do you honestly believe? It doesn't matter how much I believe. 1:35:56 It doesn't even matter how much I can prove. It only matters how much is true. Do you know how delusional you sound? 1:36:03 What happened to you? Are you really so set on putting this man to death 1:36:08 that you'd ignore... ( suspenseful theme playing ) 1:36:21 I pulled all of this paper under my own name. If Jack Reacher's right, 1:36:27 my life, your daughter's life, is in danger now. 1:36:35 Whatever happens to me next is on your head, whether you're involved or not. 1:36:42 You are the District Attorney, and I've given you compelling evidence to investigate Lebendauer Enterprises. 1:36:48 Your next move will tell me which side you're on. Oh. 1:36:55 I see. It's a test. ( chuckles ) Well, this may be hard for you to believe, but I do love you. 1:37:05 And obviously I'm not gonna turn a blind eye, no matter how absurd I find all of this. 1:37:10 ( sighs ) So if you really believe that you're in danger, if you believe that... 1:37:18 then the next order of business... is to put you in protective custody right now. 1:37:27 And how safe will I be if you're part of it? Jesus, Helen. 1:37:51 ( floor buffer stops ) 1:38:04 ( elevator bell dings ) 1:38:21 Oh. Hey. 1:38:32 Business meeting or personal? Hard to tell them apart. I'll bet. 1:38:38 ( suspenseful theme playing ) 1:38:52 ( bell rings ) ( Taser crackling ) ( screams ) ( elevator bell dings ) ( panting ) 1:39:16 ( indistinct conversations ) 1:39:29 ( cell phone ringing ) 1:39:40 Helen? CHARLIE: No. Sorry, wrong number. 1:39:46 Is this Reacher? Who is this? 1:39:54 Is this Reacher? 1:40:01 It's you. The guy from the car. ( cell phone beeps ) 1:40:07 It's your boyfriend. Reacher, is it you? 1:40:12 Helen, are you hurt? Well, she's gonna be if you're not here in one hour. Do I have to tell you how this works? 1:40:19 You'll bounce me around to make sure I'm not followed, then walk me into an ambush and kill me. Aw, you ruined my surprise. 1:40:26 Well, I can do one better. I went down to the gun range at Hinge Creek. I got the picture, prints, and I'm going to the Feds. 1:40:35 The lawyer's all yours. 1:40:41 Get The Zec. 1:40:49 ( cell phone rings ) On second thought, I'd like to kill you. Let's say winner take all. Listen to me, you prick. 1:40:56 I will kill this bitch if you're not here in one-- Shit! 1:41:05 ( cell phone rings ) You think I'm a hero? I am not a hero. 1:41:11 I'm a drifter with nothing to lose. You killed that girl to put me in a frame. 1:41:17 I mean to beat you to death and drink your blood from a boot. Now, this is how it's gonna work. 1:41:23 You're gonna give me the address and I'll be along when I am damn good and ready. If she doesn't answer the phone when I call this number, 1:41:30 if I even think you've hurt her, I disappear. And if you're smart, that scares you, 1:41:36 because I'm in your blind spot, and I have nothing better to do. 1:41:45 ( suspenseful theme playing ) You got a pen? 1:41:52 Don't need one. 1:42:11 ( knock on door ) 1:42:35 ( vehicle approaching ) 1:42:58 If I had a dollar for every time the Army called the Corps for help. 1:43:05 You have something for me? Yeah. Here. 1:43:13 You're kidding, right? Just 'cause I saw you shoot 10 years ago doesn't mean I'll let you kill some asshole with my gun. 1:43:19 I told you how serious this was. And I showed up, didn't I? So let's get to it. 1:43:27 Now, your shooter will be right up there behind those lights. Okay? He can cover both roads 1:43:34 coming and going. And kill you just as soon as you stand up. Well, can you take him out? 1:43:40 What, to dinner you mean? ( chuckles ) Look, I don't know the type of people 1:43:46 you normally associate with, Reacher. But I'm not in the habit of driving out to the boonies at the drop of a hat 1:43:54 and just picking off some total strangers, all right? Anyway, I can't see anything, not with them lights up. 1:44:01 So shoot them out. Yeah, sure. And then he knows right where I am. 1:44:06 I might as well set myself on fire. No, sir. I'll start shooting when he does. 1:44:15 And how do you propose we get him started? Well, you could always start running. 1:44:21 ( chuckling ) 1:44:28 What's wrong with your eye? I'm saving my night vision. 1:44:35 Hey, Gunny, you mind if I ask you kind of a personal question? What, you don't think I can shoot anymore? 1:44:42 It is a perishable skill. Yeah, well, the sun will be up in an hour. 1:44:50 Let's get going. 1:44:56 ( dramatic theme playing ) 1:45:08 I heard them call you The Zec. That means "prisoner." 1:45:15 Yes? Tell me, killing all those people, 1:45:21 I have to believe the money you're making can't possibly be enough to just... Enough? 1:45:26 There is no such thing. We take what can be taken. This is what we do. 1:45:34 And you? This one I think I understand, but you? 1:45:40 Why'd you do it? You make it sound like I had a choice. Oh, didn't you? 1:45:49 You'll see. 1:45:54 You should know I've taken steps... that if anything happens-- If anything happens to you, 1:45:59 it will happen in front of your father while he begs for your life. 1:46:05 You should never have involved him. Now you will have to convince him to forget, 1:46:11 for your sake... and for his. You say nothing, but I see defiance in your eyes. 1:46:20 That is a look I have seen many, many times. When the soldier comes, 1:46:25 when you watch how he dies, it will change you. You will want to forget me then. 1:46:31 ( cell phone ringing ) 1:46:41 Reacher? REACHER: Are you okay? They're ready for you. They'd like to think so. 1:46:48 Don't do this. Please don't do this. Not for me. Listen, Helen, they're not gonna 1:46:53 hurt you until they have me. And that's never gonna happen. You hear me? 1:46:59 You just hang in there. 'Cause I'm coming to get you. 1:47:06 Now say you believe me. I believe you.
