And many more, you could have made the list of 100 20 Reply TOP LIST · 4 replies @denisefarmer366 1 month ago The Deer Hunter... It should've been a contender! 28 Reply 1 reply @mrbill2600 3 weeks ago (edited) "Kingdom of Heaven"... director's cut. "Metropolis," "Run Lola Run," "Marty," "City of Industry," "Chinatown," "The Taste of Others," "Mostly Martha," "Last of the Mohicans," and "Moonstruck" are better than many on this list. A "Best Movie List" is strictly a matter of personal taste and opinion... The above are a few that I love. However, there are perhaps 20 of yours that make my list of "Best 50." 7 Reply @ToABrighterFuture 1 month ago Notably absent: E.T. Unforgettable score, iconic cinematography, and arguably one of the most effective decoy antagonists ever written. Wings of Desire. Again with the cinematography, but this one has a lot more going on. It's part visual document of late Cold War Berlin, part love story, part meditation on the human condition. And it's also one of the best movies about angels ever made. Cabaret. May well have saved the movie musical genre, and still holds an Oscar record that may never be broken. It won 8 Oscars, but did NOT win Best Picture. Star turn by Liza Minnelli, haunting visuals, and a story with a LOT of moving parts, to say nothing of its musical numbers. 22 Reply TOP LIST · 7 replies @steveandrijeski8953 2 weeks ago Ben Hur is definitely my favorite film of all time. The Ten Commandments, Passion of the Christ, Braveheart, Dances With Wolves and Last of the Dogmen deserve consideration. Thank you for a wonderful listing. 5 Reply @eddielew2292 3 weeks ago Antonioni, DeSica, Fellini, Bergman, Ozu, Bunuel, Truffaut, Bresson, Eisenstein? This list cannot to be taken seriously without the above directors. 6 Reply 1 reply @hornetsnest001 1 month ago One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. La Strada. Back to the future. To kill a mockingbird. In the heat of the night. Alien. Reservoir dogs. Fargo.... 32 Reply 2 replies @marksterner7532 1 month ago This list has just over half of the films justifiably on it. Since LOTR only scored with "Th Return of the King", then the Star Wars film chosen was incorrect - "The Empire Strikes Back" was the best film in the franchise! "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest,", "Bridge On The River Kwai", "The African Queen", "An American In Paris", "It's A Wonderful Life", ""The Wizard Of Oz", " Full Metal Jacket", " Philadelphia", "In The Heat of the Night", "The Graduate", "North By Northwest", "Chinatown", "Jaws", "M*A*S*H", "Rocky", "Patton", "Fargo" - each of these deserves a place versus many lesser films on the list!!! 66 Reply TOP LIST · 11 replies @rocky7522 1 month ago Good list, there were some that I'd never heard of, but sound good. I might have replaced a few with "Tombstone", "Jaws", "It's A Wonderful Life" and of course "The Wizard Of Oz", but you put a lot of work and time in this and come up with a pretty good list. 18 Reply 8 replies @madlenellul3430 1 month ago It’s impossible to make such a statement regarding film. Off the top of my head I can think of any number of more deserving films. The Exorcist, The French Connection, The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter, No Country For Old Men, It's A Wonderful Life, Saving Private Ryan, The Producers, Whiplash, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Primal Fear, Leave Her To Heaven, Lone Star, and Jaws to name a few. 7 Reply @joannewilson1162 1 month ago No wizard of oz? It is perfect. I really can't believe that such a deeply Christian theme could come out of Hollywood. Casting/perfect, script/perfect, , costumes/perfect. Each actor should be given an Oscar. The last scene should be meditated on. 3 Reply TOP LIST · 1 reply @KMM406 1 month ago (edited) Does anyone seriously believe, that "Titanic", is better than "All About Eve", "High Noon", "Saving Private Ryan", "The Best Years Of Our Lives", "All Quiet On the Western Front", "Big Fish", "Field Of Dreams", "Tora Tora Tora", "Ox-Bow Incident", or "Harold and Maude?" Oh, I almost forgot. Musicals? Have you ever heard of "Singin' In the Rain?" And, if you must include a Clint Eastwood western; I would suggest, "Unforgiven!" Which gave me a pretty good idea of :Who" did the picking for it. However, several of my top films did make the list: Forrest Gump - Psyco - Pulp Fiction - Interstellar - Terminator 2 - The Good The Bad and the Ugly - Blade Runner - The Silence of the Lambs - Titanic and The Godfather 1 and 2 So I was happy about that. Bong Joon Ho’s brilliant direction of Parasite made Trump angry…..I loved that! Only half way through this list but To Kill a Mockingbird, To Sir With Love, In the Heat of the Night, A Patch of Blue and Lilies of the Field are some noteworthy films. I was a fan of Anthony Burgess’s A Clockwork Orange; saw it many times. Two of my favorite South Korean films is A Frozen Flower starring Zo In Sung and Obsessed starring Song Seung-heon. Akira Kurosawa’s Dreams in collaboration of Spielberg was incredible; made me a fan of Kurosawa. 1 Reply 1 reply @DrJohnBernhardt 1 month ago I have over 4000 vidoes in my collections. I mean that with love. It feels like if a film is old, black-and-white, and vaguely depressing, it gets an automatic spot. You're completely off the rails here – in the most endearing way possible. Missing were "War of the Worlds", the radio broadcast of which sent the nation into a panic thinking it was real; "Saving Private Ryan" which redefined the WWII genre; "Raiders of the Lost Ark" which renewed the charm of the old cliff hangers and 1940's serials; "Wings" by Howard Hughes which was the very first film to ever win the Academy Award for best picture, and what about "Spartacus"? There are many more films that should be on the list in place of some of the films dealing with personal introspection or navel gazing. 1 Reply 1 reply @warrenmcgovern8231 5 days ago Pretty good collection of movies. I bet if you let one million people to compile a list of top 50 best movies of all time, you would get one million different lists. Reply @julianneller4658 1 day ago Interesting list and most of them certainly great films. However, there are some obvious omissions: Alien, Unforgiven, It's a Wonderful Life, The French Connection, The Wizard of Oz, Singing in the Rain, The Last of the Mohicans, The Maltese Falcon. In addition the list seems to completely ignore certain genres. For example, very few westerns. What about The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Stagecoach, High Noon, Dances With Wolves. Even more overlooked, comedies. What about Some Like it Hot, anything by the Marx Brothers, Way Out West, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, The Life of Brian. Finally, apart from the Japanese films included, the list is entirely American and European, with a little Russian cinema thrown in. What about Chinese and Indian films: Hero, The House of Flying Daggers, Raise the Red Lantern, To Live, Farewell My Concubine, Pather Panchali, or any of the films of Mira Nair. I guess any list is subjective and there are so many great films out there, it is impossible to come up with a list that will satisfy everyone or indeed anyone except oneself. The author failed to include a caveat of "in the author's opinion" or similar. Another failing is where only one movie per franchise is listed in most cases (for instance, both Star Wars and The Godfather have 2 very strong contenders, and it's hard to see how "A New Hope" could be listed at 13, but "Empire Strikes Back" not even making the list at all - yet in both cases the second movie is arguably stornger than the first). 1 Reply @robertword6982 3 weeks ago Gattica, and No Escape - both great films about the direction humanity can take. Reply @bruce1002003 2 weeks ago Someone once said that the movie "Titanic" was longer than it took for the real ship to sink. What a crashing bore. And Charlton Heston's customary wooden acting almost sank "Ben-Hur." (At least you did NOT include the dreadful Taylor/Burton "Cleopatra.") Among others, I'd have included in any tops list is Kubrick's early "Paths of Glory;" "The Wizard of Oz;" and "Brokeback Mountain" - not only for the original score, gorgeous vistas, and social impact, but especially for Heath Ledger's achingly brilliant performance as Ennis Del Mar. That is just the nature of lists. Lists are written down to get people to think about film and to take stock of one of the things that really make life more exciting and more fun. Taking stock of what one loves in life is a very good thing. So, if you listen to this list and think.......I would not have put that on the list ...... or ..... this movie is better than that movie and it should be listed. If you think like this then this list has done its job and that is it made you stop and take stock of which movies you love and maybe, just maybe......why you love them. I like to ask people this request all the time: Other than people (no people allowed) name five things that you really love. (It can be anything). It is amazing to me the level of difficulty some people have to come up with five things because they never think about what they love in life. This video got you to think of the films that you love.... now, name five things you love. Take stock of your life and think about good things more often than you do now. Reply @AllTradesGeorge 1 month ago Lots of naysayers here. I think, overall, it's a solid list...a few choices I'd disagree with, but it's a good list of 50 should-see movies. I can't say they're the 50 best, but according to their criteria, they were looking for movies that really expanded the scope of the art form in some way, and there are a lot of great movies out there that didn't redefine cinema...they became iconic examples of what great cinema was. So they didn't make the cut here. But this is a good way to get a start on movies to collect, and this list will doubtless leave you thinking of other great movies you'd like to have in a collection. 1 Reply TOP LIST · 1 reply @raminagrobis6112 1 month ago (edited) At least, the best film ever made (2001: A Space Odyssey) received the 8th place in this list. But where is "Barry Lyndon" ? It should be among the 5 best . Interstellar is an example of an overrated pretentious effort that barely deserves a place among the 200 best movies of all times, but certainly not to be among the 50 best. "In the Mood for Boredom": not 50-best material. Amadeus? Are you kidding? Nuff said. Not enough movies from French New Wave, from the Italy's Neorealist school, too many Oscar selections, which are NOT criteria one should use for such lists. Most of the best movies ever made and of the best directors never won a single Oscar. Ask Kubrick, Hitchcock, Bergman, Rohmer, etc. : these geniuses never won any. Oscars: NOT AN CRITERION, but Criterion selections are worthy of a selection.... P.S.: Just a minor remark on the artificial voice: it's Sergio Le-O-NAY, not LeON ! 1 Reply 1 reply @망히-z9z 1 day ago City Light by Chalie Chaplin Reply @yougohgoh1 6 days ago Gone with the wind shd be Top 3 Reply @alangreenwood292 3 weeks ago Loads of Brits.... not many Brit films, esp WW2 films 1 Reply @nocsm1701 5 days ago ❤❤❤❤ Reply @Barry-y4p4i 1 month ago The Shining and Jaws better than 70 percent of these movies Reply @lloydpayne6668 1 month ago I can't understand why Andrie Rublev isn't no. Bigger the screen the better. They lose a lot watching on a TV. Some like Ben Hur, I saw 1st run. It's not on the list. I think it should be here instead of 10 Commandments. The rest I was lucky to see at a revival house with a 50 foot screen. 2001. Rear Window. The Good, The Bad The Ugly. And Lawrence of Arabia. There's a few others like Dr Zhivago. But they're movies I didn't care much for. 2 I refuse to ever watch.Gump and Titanic. Drivel written to capture the widest group of viewers, the way McDonald's crappy hamburgers are cheap, to gain the most eaters. Problem with a list of 50, a lot of great movies don't make the list. Goldfinger is one. Then there's the love story, Love Story. But it's topped by the greatest love story in movie history. Life is Beautiful. What may be one of the best movie scenes ever, Dora demands that she be put on the train with her husband and son. Reply @jenkaa55 3 weeks ago Generally a good list but hard to watch because there are way too many mispronounciations of names that should be known. “Non-linear” used many times. Really annoying. I would only rate films by box office to date. To rate any art or artist, about all that’s valid is to describe them in terms of a juggernaut: a generally regarded top tier, secondary tier, etc. These step pyramids themselves would be separate, one for drama films, sci-fi, comedies—what have you. Every thing else is just opinion, which like, uh— well, everyone has. Even the film win all the academy awards if it did not made money it does not count. For me The Ten Commandments by Cecil B de Mille still the greatest. In Christian countries it is still watched by the millions during Holy Week. The first time I watched it was 1972 in the Philippines. Movie houses are full. I watched it again 1992 movie houses are still full. Reply 1 reply @tydeas67 1 day ago Deer hunter ???????? Avatar ????
