It has scenes of every level of Roman society, from slave to the emperor. The sea battle is particularly well done, overshadowed by the amazing chariot race. The kids were spellbound. Many went home rented the movie and watched it with their parents. 6 Reply @MisuMisu-el1et 12 days ago ,Ben Hur is the most wonderful movie 4 Reply @TheSaltydog07 7 months ago (edited) Ernest Borgnine, in "From Here to Eternity," played a brute and went on to win an Oscar for the lonely everyman in "Marty."❤ 22 Reply TOP LIST · 1 reply @elsaesteves 2 months ago Ben-Hur 💯 5 Reply @latavishwanath1256 3 months ago Ben hur is the best 5 Reply @adnanbaker4663 7 months ago BEN-HUR is the best among these. Yes 8 are "official" but it also got 2 more awards in that ceremony. Oscars were different back in those early days (and less categories) so in total it was 10 awards. So it goes to no3 right before Ben-Hur and Lord of the Rings. And yes Gone With The Wind is my favourite movie but I love a lot of the films on this list like Ben-Hur, My Fair Lady (although I'll never forgive Jack Warner for not casting Julie Andrews) and others 2 Reply @elizabethroberts6215 5 months ago ………’Ben-Hur’s 11 Academy Awards included TWO for Acting in Charlton Heston, Best Actor, & Hugh Griffith, Best Supporting Actor. Other films’ that have won the same number, have NOT won any for Acting, which is a higher rated AMPAS Category, than CGI………… 5 Reply TOP LIST · 1 reply @petergraham8681 6 months ago You failed to mention Eva Marie Saint as among the ON THE WATERFRONT awards. 10 Reply 2 replies @wayneharper2168 7 months ago Ben hur yes great movie. Reply @2615ParkAvenueAssociates 7 months ago Your Oscar list seems wrong on several counts by leaving out the best supporting win names. Hattie McDaniel won Best Supporting Actress in 1939's "Gone With The Wind," while both Rita Moreno and George Chakiris both won as Best Supporting Actress and Actor in 1961's "West Side Story." There may be other miscounts and readings from your list as well---I lost confidence in your report after those three mistakes. 4 Reply TOP LIST · 1 reply @LinaRelacion 4 days ago Benhur s my favorite movie Reply @kaiYWang 11 days ago ❤❤GIGI❤❤❤BEN HUR❤❤❤ Reply @vinaybhatt5436 7 months ago A surprising omission :The Godfather 1 3 Reply TOP LIST · 3 replies @donmccomas1552 10 days ago Where is "Green Book" in the line-up? I'll never forgive the Academy for awarding F. Murray Abraham, but NOT Tom Hulce. Astounding callousness! 2) My Fair Lady. Utterly forgettable. 3) From Here to Eternity. At least Sinatra didn't, as usual, completely ruin a film, but he tried. 4) Gone with the Wind. A big movie on a big screen. A small movie on a small screen. 5) The Last Emperor. If you have some time to waste, watch it. 6) Gigi. Same comment as The Last Emperor. 7) West Side Story. A great film. Robert Wise fan here. Entirely worth watching, and multiple times. Of course, one has to overlook the "unwise" decision Wise made to cast a non-Puerto Rican female as the main Puerto Rican female character. Which does seem to contradict the whole message of the film. Otherwise, it was worthy of its Oscars. 8) Titanic. If you want to understand how this tragedy unfolded, this is probably the best film to watch. If you want to get irritated by the number of times Jack says "Rose", this is probably the best film to watch. . . Oh, and let's ignore the fact that numerous films of greater merit and enduring legacy are on not on this list.
